Description of Work: I called All Lady Locksmiths two days before Christmas to fix the thumb turn on my front door deadbolt that allows the door to be opened from the inside. I'm a major procrastinator, and the deadbolt thumb turn had been broken for months. Surprisingly, Julie said she could come out the next morning, Christmas Eve. I lucked out, as it was the slow season for her and she had the time to educate me about the good quality of my house's original Dexter lock sets and the importance of repairing them instead of just replacing them with the inferior door hardware commonly available today. She figured out what had broken (threads stripped) and why (sagging door putting stress on deadbolt and mechanism), and said she would visit her salvage suppliers to try to locate a replacement from the lock's vintage (1938). In the meantime, we put a screwdriver in the mechanism so I could open the door from the inside. I also consulted her about putting a slide lock on one of the back doors, installing window locks on oversize wood double-hung windows, and replacing screws on exterior door knob rosettes that never fit correctly after they had been removed by the house painters. Julie is a font of knowlege and she is very generous about sharing what she knows. Her goal is to educate and help people at the same time. She is very personable and friendly. Before she left, she told me it would be a few weeks before she could return, due to the holidays and her trying to locate the salvaged part. A few weeks later she called to update me on the search. She couldn't locate the exact part I needed for the front door, so she engineered a solution herself: she drilled in a tiny set screw to hold the thumb turn to the mechanism that had the stripped threads. She returned a few days later and her solution worked perfectly. She also shaved down the strikeplate and hole so the deadbolt has clearance until I can have the sagging door fixed. She also installed the slide lock on the back door, as I requested. As for the screws that didn't fit on the door handle rosettes, she showed me that over the years larger and larger screws had been used, when actually a very small screw is needed. By rotating the rosette slightly, she had fresh wood to use the correct size screws. She said the next time door hardware has to be removed, use baggies to keep the screws with their sets. As for the window locks, she brought ones she felt would work best for my windows. I plan to have the windows repaired, so I bought the locks with plans to have her install them when the window sashes line up properly. |I am so pleased I called All Lady Locksmiths. Any other locksmith would have probably just tried to sell me a new, inferior front door lock set that would have cost me $300-plus. Julie educated me about the superior craftsmanship and materials of my original hardware, which allowed her to repair it. I highly recommend her to anyone with an older home.

Description of Work: We had out locks re-keyed and many of the interior doors serviced by all lady locksmith. We started by going through the house together and discussing each door/lock and what was needed-many wouldn't latch anymore as the house had settled over the years. It helped that I had made a list. She gave me great advice on approaches was worth doing, even when it would have meant more business for her. The work was then performed thoroughally and for less time/money than I expected. I was very happy with her work, service and counsel.

Description of Work: After all the rain, our front door lock was damaged/rusted. All Lady came and changed out the locks on the front door and took a quick look at our other locks to make sure they were maintained. They are great!
