Description of Work: emergency roof repair, window replacement, flooring installation. Tree fell thru roof and broke window and ruined floor. I called Duvall Construction services at 10pm when a tree came crashing thru our roof. Zach was at my home in 45 min. with tarps to cover everything. They came out the next day and fixed the roof, replaced the window. Then 1 day later fixed our floor. Super fast, professional and precision work. The quality of finish work is outstanding!! Will be having them come back next month to remodel our kitchen and do custom tile flooring.

Description of Work: Zach was hired to frame and tile my bath tub area. We met many times to go over the particulars. He seemed eager and professional for the first many weeks and very knowledgeable. When we were due to start I did not have the correct bullnose (he had offered to get all the tile so I did not realize this was a big deal) so we deferred until the following week when the special order would be in. I tx him the day of work and he did not get back to me. Later the following day after more texts he said it would be a month before he could do the work. I was frustrated but agreed as we had been coordinating for almost 3 months now. A few days after I agreed he said he was sorry but it would be months before he could do the job and suggested I get someone else. I had been contacting him many many times with no response and it was very frustrating. He returned my full deposit and despite having a contract I was left to find another tiler. He made a suggestion of someone however I did not want to rely on him further at this point. Really left me in a bind.

I had blocked off time in my schedule to do the job. You were going to have all tile there when I started. I showed up to start work and you didn't have the materials. Which meant I lost work/money for the entire time of the job (even though we had a contract). I then spent hours going to 4 different stores trying to locate what you needed (again at no charge). When you called me 2 weeks later to say you had the tile, there was no way I could fit it in to my schedule immediately. At that time I was booked 3 months in advance. I didn't want to hold you up, so I suggested you use another tile person. I recommended a great tile contractor and refunded ALL your money immediately, even though I was out work and time, I charged you nothing.

Description of Work: They responded immediately to my request, and came to the first appointment. They asked for 1 week to get back to me. After repeated calls asking for an estimate (1 month) I decided they were not interested in my job even when they said they did want the work. Very disappointed in the lack of professionalism. All they needed to do was let me know they were too busy or not interested in the job. A big fat F in my books.

We apologize you feel that way. We had every intention of working with you. There were permit delays on a large addition which thru the entire schedule off, and unfortunately the job was in Guerneville well out of cell phone range. Zach takes pride in his work and always keeps a close eye on his job sites. He keeps a small crew so he can be a very hands on Contractor, to make sure all jobs are done to his standards. This means he will only take the amount of jobs he can properly supervise. He didn't want to just send a subcontractor to you unless he could be checking up and making sure it was done to your satisfaction. We have now expanded our office so we can have someone other then him answer phone calls and schedule appointment for him. Thanks to Angies list we have had 75 client calls over the last 3 months. We are trying to expand the business to accommodate these clients, without allowing the quality control to suffer. When he is working with a client they have his complete attention. I am sorry again that you were in that gap of growth in our business.

I have a deck that is sturdy and isn't going to fall down, it's build to code. The original price seemed fare and in line with other estimates. The quality of work and detail, was not professorial. The dry rot in the 8 inch strip of siding should had been expected, there is a reason new decks have to be connected to the house with spacers and if the deck board is rotten, I would expect the siding it is mounted to to be rotten. The extra work to fix it was minimal, but this alone wouldn't have caused the low rating. There would be no reason for a customer to leave out the original work of the steps and railing, it was a minor part of the overall project. I now have a $10k deck that is not finished. He never asked if I wanted it excluded and there would be no reason to exclude it. I believe this was intentional to push up the price. At the walk through, I pointed out the decking screws, he made excuses, but agreed to fix them. I heard hammering and found him lowering the raised screws by hammering them into the decking. I don't know how many he hammered, but I guarantee, if I ever need to remove those screws, the heads will just spin. You can't hammer deck screws without some fracturing, they aren't nails. It was at this point I decided this walk through was nothing but a formality and he wasn't interested in fixing any of the issues. It is hard to find a good contractor in West Sonoma County, this one was prompt and seemed to handled the permit and inspector process well. The quality of the work was not in line with the price. The attitude I received on the walk through was not that of someone who wanted to leave a satisfied customer, but one that wanted his check and didn't want anyone questioning his work. Update 11/10/12 Everything was agreed to before the contract was signed, nothing extra was done, except for the dry rot siding work described above, an additional payment of $350 was paid to the contractor for that and quot;extraand quot; work; approximately 1 sheet of plywood siding, cut into 8 strips. Connecting up to older structures is part of any remodel, the existing structures are rarely square of level, one reason to hire a professional. The existing deck being 15 years old, permitted or not is irrelevant to the quality of work. The contractor did a good job connecting to the existing deck (one end of a 30 x 8 ft deck), as would be expected under any contract of this type and is not and quot;extra workand quot;. Whether the contractor lost money or not, is also irrelevant, I paid the agreed price and the additionally$350 for the 8 inch strip of siding replacement. As far as the contractors office manager, that would be his wife, who I have never met nor spoken to. All I can do is explain the facts and let people come to their own conclusions. I added some pictures documenting the issues.
Description of Work: Kept adding new charges to complete the job, after paying extra $350, didn't finish what he agreed to. I have a two level deck across the front of my home, approximately 30 x 8. Two of the post had dry rot and I hired this contractor to replace the posts, and four steps from the lower deck to a concrete landing. Also a railing on one side of those steps. When removing one post they found the support members were also rotted and the entire upper deck and all posts need to be replaced. I received a bid to do the extra work, I was told that if I accepted his bid, he would eat the cost of the work he had done; I was getting other bids. I accepted the bid and up to this point, all was fine. On the first or second day, I was informed that there was a strip of old siding where the deck had been connected to the house, that was rotted and needed to be removed and replaced. The extra work was simple, remove the 8" by 30' strip of old siding, no cutting because above and below the 8 inch strip was newer siding with the flashing already in place. Cut a sheet of siding to fit and nail up. His first price was $500. This work would probably take a handy man an hour or two, not counting picking up the materials, I complained and got it down to $350; this far in to the job I had no choice. When meeting with him on this issue, he announced the four steps and railing, that I originally hired him for, were not included in his contract. I told him it didn't make sense that I wouldn't expect him to include what I had originally hired him for, he just told me to read the contract. A few minutes later he approached me and agreed to take care of the original work to keep a happy customer. On the walk through I found the decking screws were very inconsistent, some were protruding above and some below the surface of the decking. The railings on the upper deck were all the same except for one in the middle that had been cut five inches short where it mounts to the deck and not tapered like the others. His reason was I would need access to the bracket bolt for the deck leg. The cut was very noticeable and should have been done differently, even if, making the bolt harder to accesses or a removable extension to hide it. The bolt in question will more than likely, never need to be reached. He suggested they would need to be tightened as the deck aged. Nothing in the contract suggested that. The bolts mounting the post brackets to the post were 2 inches too long on all four post. There was corrugated metal that was to be re-installed under the upper deck to keep rain off the lower deck. It was badly bent up in areas where it will likely cause water to flow the wrong way, the cuts to fit the new posts were inconsistent and one sheet was installed upside down causing the original mounting holes to be in a position that water will run out of them. The contract called for re-installing the original material. The front edge of the lower deck, when it was remounted to the new post, a gap was left that is 3/4 of an inch at one end dropping down to no gap at the other. Cuts in the area that connected to the older deck seem to have been done without measuring accurately. The 4 steps were not replaced and no railing was installed, I was told the inspector didn't require them and that, apparently was the agreement he made with me.
