It was a great experience from getting the estimate through to pulling away after the job was completed. It was a very hot day (over 90 degrees) and they were all pleasant, hardworking, and professional. They asked great questions, placed items where I asked or how the boxes were marked. We walked through the house after everything was unloaded and they relocated a couple things for me (because I changed my mind after seeing things in the rooms). They were very focused on making sure I was happy before they left.
Description of Work: Loaded my items, transported them about 40 miles and unloaded my items. They also disassembled and reassembled my furniture (beds, patio furniture, hammock, etc.)

The crew arrived on time and ready to go. There were some communication problems between the crew as supervisor did not speak spanish. So it probably cost us an additional hour to do the job, but we were credited that hour by the supervisor at the end. Overall, they took good care of our furniture and the move was just fine.

The move went very smoothly and quickly. All workers knew what had to be done and followed instruction. They handled all furniture and boxes carefully. They were all very professional, courteous, and hard workers. I will definitely use them again as they arrived promptly and ready to work.

3 movers showed up. They were polite and professional. They packed my clothes in the closet into their portable closet. They disassembled and reassembled the king bed for me. The only thing I had to pay extra was the tapes they used which they informed me at the arrival.

It went very well. The only glitch was, they forgot a large table, which presented a problem for us later. But I should have noticed it, so not really their fault! The guys were pleasant, efficient and professional.

We only moved about 4 miles into our new house, but I was still surprised by the price, only about $450! The guys were careful and nothing got broken. I would be happy to use them again.

The quote he gave me was $2,400 for about 2,400 pounds and without protection. He came out to look at my place and to give me the quotes. They have fixed and binding quotes. They were courteous and professional. The quote was a pretty decent quote. It all comes down to the fact that you trust them and of you .like the price. For me, it worked out better that he came earlier. It was nice enough for him to call and tell me that he’s early and if he can come. I’d give them an A+ on the promptness to come out. I would probably go with the exact moving company that got me to my destination.
Description of Work: I called and received a quote from Northstar Moving Company for basic move packing, loading the truck, and unpacking at the destination.

I selected NorthStar for a local move. They were running late and did not arrive until late on a Sunday. They were apologetic and explained the delay, but it was still frustrating. That said, they tried to "make it right" by bringing an extra person to move me (at their expense). I definitely noticed that and appreciated it. They loaded the truck, drove and unloaded me in about 2.5 hrs. It was amazing. Everything arrived in tact. A couple items were scratched or dented, but there was no serious damage to anything. I specifically asked them to be very careful with one piece of furniture. The person wrapping it at my old place was VERY good about wrapping it well. The person Unwrapping it was not as cautious and when they used a box cutter to remove the wrapping, they cut the furniture. Luckily, the cut was only on one of the legs. All in all, I think they tried too hard to finish quickly on my behalf (I had to work the next day) and they ended up accidentally cutting the table. I would give them a second shot, though.

Fast, efficient, professional. We moved from a transitional apartment to a house (3+ bedrooms of stuff, we packed). The only negatives: |* They showed up a full hour earlier than the arranged time (which left us really scrambling); |* The estimate was waaay off -- more than double the actual final cost. They estimated just over 8 hours; it actually took about 3 and a half. As much as I appreciate a conservative estimate, it should be within 25% or so of the actual cost or it isn't very helpful.

We moved from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 2-story home and were really concerned about the movers being careful with our newly painted walls and newly cleaned carpets in the home. Therefore I made sure that Northstar knew about our requirements ahead of time so that the crew could come prepared with carpet runners etc. David (Foreman), Ricardo and Artem arrived in a timely fashion and once again when our requirements were voiced to the crew they were super careful with our furniture and ensuring that they put down the runners down prior to taking the boxes and furniture into the house. They were also super careful about nicking the walls as they brought the heavy furniture up to the second floor and into the house in general. The only thing that perhaps could have gone smoother is the time that the paperwork took. I feel that the paperwork ate into a lot of the time that could have been spent on the move. When you are paying by the hour, this is particularly important. Therefore, I felt that it could have taken a little less time than it did for the move to be completed and therefore we could have saved a bit more money on this end. Overall, we were happy with the professionalism of the crew and the office staff and their understanding of our needs.
Description of Work: Moved furniture and pre-packed boxes with no appliances from 2 bedroom apartment into 2-story home. We had already moved a lot of the breakables etc. on our own ahead of time.

Description of Work: I find this deal (and other similar deals posted by other movers) to be misleading. The 'Big Deal' advertises $50 for $150.00 worth of moving costs. However, it doesn't mention that you have a 4 hour minimum for local moves at $140/hr. I'm so glad I called before I bought the deal - I find it to be completely false advertising, and I assume misleading for most people who buy the deal. They were nice enough to recommend another moving company with no hourly minimum, which is why I didn't give them a 'F'. Buyer beware!

Also, I have to admit; I find it disappointing that you reward us with a negative review even though we took the time to recommend a moving company that was a better fit for your needs. Respectfully, I would have thought that, if anything, you would reserve this derogatory “C” review for one of the companies that just told you they could not help you and hung up. For your future reference, different moving companies have a different minimum charge depending on their location, size of crew, different seasons of the year and other factors. This is a common sense practice and I am sure that if you stop to think about it, it will make sense to you too. Excellent job done. I received confirmation calls prior to my move and a a half hour before their scheduled arrival. They arrived on time, were very professional, worked hard the entire time. This was significant to me because I had a lot of expensive custom glass furniture which had to be handled with great care. They packed my fragile items very well. No scratches on move out and only one scratch on the wall upon move in - which they called to my attention right away. The only thing that would make this service better is that the movers clean up behind themselves before leaving. Lots of left over paraphenlia left over (used rolls of tape, paper, scraps of boxes etc) and that the costs of materials used be explained better because they can add up significantly on your bill. Other than that, it was a great move and I would strongly recommend Northstar to others who need moving services.

I had a three man crew, with Thomas as lead man. They were prompt in their arrival, went to work right away. Very fast, efficient and thorough. They took extra care of my breakables. The move went smoothly. Although I was suprised at the extent they wrapped everything - not sure all needed and seemed to slow process down a lot - no furniture was damaged. I moved to the second floor and the stairs were very steep and the ceiling low at one spot. As a result, the walls and ceiling were damaged in a few spots. When Northstar followed-up to ask how the move went and I told them about the damage, they went out of their way to resolve it. I had my painter repair and paint the holes and Northstar paid for it. Based on their willingness to resolve the problem (Wendy), I would definitely use them again.

They were the only company that had an estimate created in-person. Arrived on-time, very responsive, and easy to schedule with. The crew that handled our move was fantastic. They called 20 mins before arriving, and showed up when promised. They were very professional/friendly and did a fantastic job. Nothing was broken or damaged, and the team made sure everything was in the right place + reassembled before they left. Could not have asked for a better experience.

All in all, a stress-free experience. Crew chief Jeremy and his men Juanito & Anthony did a quick turn-around that beat the Not to Exceed time allocation by about two hours. They arrived early, but it was OK. The only "gripe" I had was with the Northstar office in Chatsworth. Several times before the moving date I already called Karla Rodriguez at the office, as well as e-mailing Alan Nudel, that when the guys came they should called my cellphone instead of my home phone, because I had arranged for the home phone to be disconnected on the moving day. They both assured me that they would do so. But on the moving date, Jeremy was trying to call me on my home number, so he had to wait awhile outside. Luckily my wife spotted them and buzzed them in. I looked at their work order and, lo and behold, it still had my home number instead of my cell. Anyway, that did not detract from my satisfaction with their service. Should I need to move again in the future, I would definitely use Northstar again.
Description of Work: Moving from 2-bedroom apartment to 2-bedroom condo. Local move, from Rancho Park, West Los Angeles to Sherman Oaks.
