Description of Work: They took on a small, custom construction project in my kitchen laundry closet that had overwhelmed other companies. They listened well, put together a detailed plan to get the job completed, and were able to start work quickly. The job ended up taking a bit longer than originally planned, but the project was very challenging, albeit a "small" project, compared to a complete room or house remodel. In the end, they came up with a good solution and made it work. The workers were pleasant, respectful, professional, showed up on time, figured out smart solutions, and cleaned everything up well, etc. And the supervisor, Shelby, did a great job of overseeing everything to completion.

Shelby asked lots of questions to understand the scope of the project. He cautioned that without the structural plans the estimate would be very rough. Within a couple days he sent an email with a fairly large range, but an explanation as too what decisions would drive the different price points. Unlike the other contractors I contacted Shelby did not offer to come out to meet in person, but I did not push for it either. His estimate was less detailed then some others, but his total cost was in line with others.
Description of Work: I requested an estimate for a residential home rebuild. The estimate would be based on architectural drawings only since structural plans had not yet been completed.

Response from Tiger Construction & Home Improvement Inc
In looking over this review, I was a bit surprised to see that she had written, "Unlike the other contractors I contacted Shelby did not offer to come out to meet in person, but I did not push for it either." In fact, she told me that her and her husband were submitting plans to 5 or 6 contractors and making their decision based on preliminary numbers. She made a point to convey that they would not care to meet with any other contractors at this time as they were only looking for a "ball park" proposal and her plan was to make a decision to meet with the two contractors that she felt best met their criteria after the "ballpark" number was provided. She also told me, "we don't want to meet with any other contractors at this time because we don't want to waste their time. When we narrow our decision down to two contractors, we will then provide structural drawings/requirements and we will begin our interview process." I commended her on her concern to not waste other contractors' time, although I thought it a bit odd to bid on a project where I had not even seen the grounds. I informed her that any bid I would give would not be completely accurate because of the fact that I did not see the existing house to be demolished, the grounds in which the existing house was to be built and I did not have any structural drawings. I informed her that I would not be writing up a formal proposal due to the fact that I did not have all the necessary information. I also told her that my estimates are very detailed and take quite a bit of time to research and write for house construction. I was provided with two types of drawings, elevation drawings and topographical drawings for a proposed house build. The drawings were not clear as to the existing house, soils report or where the proposed house remodel/build was to begin. Here is an exert of an e-mail that I sent to her after I spent 7 hours working up an estimate for her and then provided her with my preliminary estimate: "The numbers that I am giving are ambiguous due to a few factors that you are aware of. In all honesty, how can a reputable contractor be accurate and give anything other than a ball park no matter how the figure is broken down. As I said, Tiger Construction… Inc. would be very interested in building this house, however, a formal bid would have to be written upon receipt of the structural drawing, full disclosure of design specifications and a formal walk of the grounds. At this point, too many things are speculation/ambiguous and as professionals both Tiger Construction… and the sub-contractors whom work for us, do not typically write formal bids based on speculations as we would have to both research and write things at least another two to three times in attempting to earn your project. If the other contractors have estimated based on the same information that you provided to me, they would have to change order or completely revamp the whole estimate in order to be accurate. Plus it’s better for you to be armed with truly accurate information if this is what you are basing your decision on. Those being the facts, please understand that Tiger Construction… is no less professional than any other truly reputable general building contractor nor are we less interested, I am simply being realistic with my time and potential projects as a business professional. There are many other things that come to mind including that the major decision for you in choosing a contractor would be their reputation, experience, financial stability, personal character, punctuality, proof of all legal requirements from both general/all sub-contractors and finally what the over-all ambition is of said contractor. While cost is always a factor, you’ve heard the saying, 'You get what you pay for.'" In my business, it is a must to meet with potential clientele and I respected her wishes to not meet, hoping that she would see my competitive bid when in comparison to other reputable, legitimate & legal contractors. None-the-less, I sent her plans out to 5 of my sub-contractors and provided a good estimate to her in e-mail format. A typical project of this size would take approximately 60 hours to bid accurately without the possibility of change orders and I would expect to meet the potential client, be provided with all required and necessary information before writing a proposal that Tiger Construction... Inc. will stand by.

Shelby and his team (James and Tollice) were exellent and great to work with. I gave Shelby a call and he practically stop the car to talk to me. We had no experience working with a contractor so he briefly explain what we should consider, ie liability insurance when choosing contractor. He was able to come and give us a very detail estimate within a few days. His estimate was not the lowest among the contractors we had but we were impressed by his knowledge. He did not just come and tell us how much it would cost. He came and discussed what could be done and what could not be done. He also went back to research the price for materials for us. Shelby and his team spent around 2 weeks to tile kitchen backsplash, install closet organizer in 2 bedrooms (which include going to Lowes to help us design the closet and customize the closet organizer due to unusual shape of our closet), install ceiling fan and light (he even found a better way to save cost and time to install the fan and did credit us back the money), mout tv in the wall and pain the master bathroom. We are very impress with Tiger Construction work. Every project was completed with high quality and they paid great attention to details. They are also very clean. They out all the equipment in the balcony and clean after their work every day. In conclusion, we are greatly impressed with their work and enjoyed working with them!
Description of Work: 1) Kitchen Backsplash 2) Master bedroom and baby's room closet organizer 3) Ceiling fan and lighting installation 4) Mounting TV on the wall 5) Paint master bathroom

We first contacted Shelby a year before our project started when we really weren't sure what we wanted to do, but wanted to see what was possible within our budget. Shelby called us within a few hours of receiving our email and immediately started getting us thinking about all the right questions and was able to give us some basic parameters on what we could do within our budget. After a few delays we finally decided to more forward with our project. After finalizing our plans we returned to Shelby who spent a large amount of his time to review our plans and created the most detailed estimate that we received from any contractor. He was very knowledgeable and personable throughout the entire process, keeping in constant communication by email and cell phone. In the end our budget just didn't allow for the quality of work that Shelby was offering, but we would highly recommend him based on our interactions with him.
Description of Work: Shelby met with us and prepared an extremely detailed estimate. He spent more time than any other contractor we met with reviewing the plans, asking us questions and explaining his bid.

I had a very good initial telephone conversation with Shelby Arbuckle. We discussed my project and I emailed him my plans. Shelby was very courteous and professional on the telephone and via email. We arranged on the telephone a time for Shelby to look at my home. We twice confirmed via email the appointment time and date. We both made it clear that we would be sure to contact each other if it ever became necessary to reschedule or change the appointment. However, Shelby never showed up at my house. About 1 hour and 20 minutes after the appointed time, someone from Tiger Construction called to let me know that Shelby could not call to change his appointment b/c his cell phone battery died. I was frustrated b/c I had made special arrangements to be at my home at the appointed time, yet Shelby didn't show up. My suggestion is to only make an appointment with Tiger Construction if you have nothing else going on. If your time is valuable, you should just call another contractor.

Response from Tiger Construction & Home Improvement Inc
As the member stated, I was unable to make the appointment; however, my secretary did call to tell him that I was in traffic on Highway 17, in the Santa Cruz mountains. My cell phone was not able to get reception through the mountains so I stopped at my first available pay-phone on the summit, contacted my secretary, and had her call him to explain why I was late. As I had to complete two more appointments that day, it was very important for me to get back on the road as quickly as possible. Cindy, my secretary, was very kind and cordial over the phone as she explained who she was and where she was calling from. She explained the exact situation that is written above and was met with a not so pleasant response. Cindy, sensing that he was impatient, said, "we are sorry that Shelby was unable to arrive on time but he is on the way or we will reschedule if we have not lost your confidence." He interrupted Cindy before she was finished saying, "Oh you have lost my confidence and we will be using with another contractor." Cindy explained that we were very sorry and said, "You have our sincerest apology, and I'm sorry that we have lost your confidence." Unfortunately, situations happen that are beyond my control. We did contact you at the earliest opportunity. As you have truly never met me nor done business with me, I think it would be fair to at least entertain the fact that we have been honest about the situation before writing such a poor reflection and insult about a disregard for your time. I am sorry for any inconvenience that it may have caused you but we can assure anyone that we are never inconsiderate of a potential client's time. Once again, we did contact you to explain the situation as I gave you my word that I would call if there were any problems. Please note that a missed appointment does not constitute having used our company under, "Have you used this company before?" The correct response is "No," you have never used our company before. Thank you, Shelby Arbuckle

He did a job well done. It took time, patience and it was a fun project for me. I feel that my home can compete with the best homes in the neighborhood, which is due to his diligence and caring about the house. He paid attention to the details and was very meticulous. The price came in on contract, which was very far. He was a delightful person, lovely personality, and he went above and beyond. I would not hesitate to hire him again.
Description of Work: He did a total house remodel, that involved re-plumbing the house, termite work, new kitchen and bathrooms from the walls out. He put in new cabinetry, appliances, tile floors, granite countertops. He installed new windows throughout, and added 2 new windows. New doors throughout the house and 2 exterior doors. He had gone down to the bare walls and studs in some places. He painted interior and exterior. This project also involved landscaping.

Great, From the first phone call to saying good by, everything went as Shelby had described and predicted. Basically, I found Tiger Construction though this site, when I needed help with a beam in my house. I'm doing a remodel and I was falling behind with this portion and needed to catch up to meet other deadlines of install. So I called Shelby and explained what I needed and how fast I needed it done. Literally within hours of our first phone call, he had the guys and a plan in place and at the right price. He showed up with everything to complete the job, and in no time had the job rolling and me back on track. He completed the job on time and under budget and did an excellent job along the way.
Description of Work: Tiger Construction, installed a 2.0 PSL beam in my house to enable the opening of our kitchen to make it and the dining room a great room. I did most of the preliminary work, just because I'm handy and wanted to save time. Then Shelby and his crew came in and did the brain and brawn work of installing the beam. He and his crew also patched up the sheet rock and flooring after the job was complete.

The went well project went well. Shelby met our budget and our schedule while providing a custom finish. He said the table has one of the hardest finishes and should hold up for well over the original finish that was 30 years old.
Description of Work: I HIRED SHELBY ARBUCKLE (TIGER CONSTRUCTION) AFTER HAVING SEEN HIS WORK AT A NEW PLANT BEACH TANNING SALON IN SAN JOSE, WHERE HE DID ALL THE INTERIOR CONSTRUCTION(WALL CONSTRUCTION, PAINT, FLOORING, ELECTRICAL AND CABINET REFINISHING, etc.) So I asked him to refinish our dining table and two matching side tables. The furniture was 30 years old and had been highly neglected and abused buy our family (we have two boys 4 and 6 years old who have hacked on it since birth). Shelby took it away and returned it on time four days later. It wasn't the same table it was beautiful and know guaranteed to hold up to the young ones.
