J.M. Wheeler Window Coverings & Shutters

The blinds are just what we needed and they are of high quality. Recommended.

On August 6, Michelle arrived as scheduled for our appointment, provided me with samples to choose from, took measurements, and looked at a broken (draw string) anchor on another window treatment all within an hour! Within two hours of our appointment she emailed me a quote. I accepted the quote right away and sent a 50% deposit check. The order process was very efficient! I told Michelle I had company coming Labor Day weekend and, if possible, would like to have the new window coverings installed before then. I told her I'd be out of town for 10 days. She contacted me the day after I returned to let me know the coverings had arrived. We scheduled Jeff to come out the following day to install the new window treatments. He arrived right on time and got the kitchen treatment installed, and the broken anchor replaced with no problem. Unfortunately, the living room blinds were sent from the vendor (Hunter Douglas) missing the correct brackets. Jeff called Hunter Douglas (right then and there, from my living room) letting them know of the problem. They sent the correct parts, and in less than three business days, he was back to install the living room window treament! After completing the installation, Jeff took a few minutes to diagnose a problem I have with an old blind. He agreed to contact Hunter Douglas to see if parts can be ordered for the old blind. Jeff & Michelle are great! Very efficient, professional, accomodating, and a pleasure to work with! I will definitely call them again for repairs and/or new window treatments!

They showed us a wide variety of Hunter Douglas cellular blind options, and helped us narrow down a style that would work with our sliding glass door. They were very knowledgeable and friendly. Schedule coordination and installation went smoothly. I'd highly recommend JM Wheeler to anyone looking for window treatment advice and installation.

Great - the installation was very fast & professional, and the final result looks awesome.

We first found them through Angie's list. We also then read very good reviews about them from a parent's group. Michele came in to measure our windows and was quite helpful in choosing the right treatments for our windows. We also got quotes from other installers including one through Costco and JM Wheeler's prices were competitive. They also gave us the 10% Angie's List membership discount. We signed the contract with a 50% payment and the window shades were ready to install in a few weeks. Jeff came in to install them and everything went flawlessly. They were prompt in sending us the completed Hunter Douglas Rebate forms. We just received the rebate (Amex gift card) from Hunter Douglas. Overall, we were very happy, they were prompt, professional and quite responsive via email, etc.

The original contact was with one of the owners, who responded in a timely manner to our call and set up an appointment to determine the best product for our window and sliding glass door covering. She was professional and described the product she recommended in an understandable fashion. The other owner did the installation, again in a timely and professional manner. The installed coverings are an improvement which resolved a continuing issue which we had with the former coverings.

He was fantastic. They did a good job, early in delivery, excellent service, and personal service. They were accuracy and clean installation. The price was very reasonable. I will definitely use them again in the future.

Hopefully the factory will deliver the four shutters in September as promised. Will update this report at that time.

Both my husband and I work, so we ask contractors to come visit us in the evening or on weekends. J M Wheeler co-owner, Michele, told us that the company doesn't do weekend work, and normally does not work outside of 8-5 M-F. Reviews on Angies List were excellent, so my husband and I decided to try to work with them by leaving work early to meet at the end of the day. It took about a week, but we managed to find a day and make an appointment. As other reviews state, in person Michele was very professional in manner and knows the merchandise. She understood what I wanted and was able to quickly make suggestions. We have a teal carpet in our house that we like. Teal does not have a yellow tinge - i.e., it is not the least bit olive in color - and current house color-schemes favor green with a yellow cast, so there is a lot of merchandise that will not work in our house. In any case, Michele found items that matched reasonably and met our other criteria. When the estimate was delivered, a few days later by email, it was a simple roll-up number of about $2200. We are used to having contractors break down costs more. Also the amount seemed high. When I asked for a breakdown, we received roll-up numbers for each window. By then we'd scheduled another contractor to come by. When he did, we ultimately received a lower estimate - by hundreds of dollars. (Both companies use Hunter Douglas blinds.) We went with the 2nd company.

After finding in Angie's list, I called and my call was returned promptly. They were clear about price and scope of work, yet flexible and efficient (as they could likely get the manufacturer to repair under warranty) and would only charge me for the evaluation and removal & replacement. There were ALOT of blinds, and we didn't know how well all of them worked. They got it done, and communicated regularly as we waited on the manufacturer to repair. Jeff was great to work with and made great suggestions. He also attached the chords and found brackets so that function could be sustained. The commercial tenant was very pleased.

I immediately was impressed with JM Wheeler Window Coverings when I called them and made an appointment to come to my home. Because I mentioned that I was interested in shutters, Jim came to my home as requested and on time. He explained to me the various options I had regarding the material and color of the shutters and explained the pros and cons of all the products. When I decided the type of shutters I wanted to purchase he measured my window and gave me an estimate that very day. I was blown away with the estimate.....$1500! I had purchased shutters in my previous home and this price was considerably lower than I anticipated. I signed the contract and he gave me an approximate date that they would arrive for installation. Regarding the dining room window treatment I decided not to choose shutters so Jim had me call Michele, his partner. Again we settled on a date to meet at my home and she came with various window covering samples. Like her partner she was very informative and she answered all my questions. I decided to purchase silhouettes for $1980 and within a matter of weeks they arrived and they were installed. The shutters were installed several weeks later around the date that Jim said they would probably arrive. Shortly after the installation, Michele sent me the proper paper work for me to mail to Hunter Douglas for my rebate. From beginning to end this was such a pleasant and professional experience. Everything went according to plan, the price was more than reasonable, the wait time was short, and the end result is beautiful. I am planning to purchase other window treatments in the near future for some other windows that need window coverings and I will happily purchase them from JM Wheeler.

Great! I engaged with J&M Wheeler based on a referral before I even started a window-replacement project. I knew I wanted shutters, and I thought I wanted casement windows, but I wasn't sure the two were compatible so I wanted to check with the shutter-provider BEFORE I made the final replacement window selection. Jeff came over, answered all my questions, even drove with me to a house very near by that had the "look" I wanted. He recommended that I NOT get window coverings in the kitchen, reading the situation that I didn't really need them or want them - even thought that meant less money for him! He was nice to my cat, and made recommendations of a window covering that would allow her to get to her favorite place to sit, on the sill between the window and the shade. THis was all on the first visit, with no guarantee of ever getting the job! When the construction was nearly over, Michelle came over to measure and show me samples of the Hunter-Douglas blinds. She is very matter-of-fact and efficient, but gave me all the info and choices I needed. Then Jeff came back to measure again for the shutters just to be sure. The blinds and shutters both came in ahead of the lead times I'd been quoted, and Jeff showed up right on time to complete both installations. So, all in all they made five trips to my house and were prompt, pleasant, and professional each time. I have a feeling I paid a pretty good price premium, but I didn't competitively bid the project because I was so pleased with their service.

We used them twice. He talked to us and took measurements. Jim was very personable and did a very good job with the shutters. We haven't had any problems with them. It was good quality workmanship. The price was really good compared to all the other places we looked at.

Jeff was punctual and professional. He did an exceptional job & far surpassed the previous contractor who installed window treatments 5 years ago. I will use him again & highly recommend him.

I found them on Angie's List and contacted them by e-mail. I think we may have talked on the phone also. I initially dealt with Michele Wheeler, who set up the appointment to come to my home, discuss options for my slider, and take measurements. I had had vertical blinds on the slider, which I hated. The control mechanism for the verticals had broken, so they needed to be replaced, hopefully with something more attractive. I decided on a duet shade, and Michele worked with me on the details to be sure it fit in the space, etc. I had been told by others in the past that I couldn't have a duet shade (to match the shades on the windows in the room), but Michele explained that it would work, so I went that route. My only disappointment with the initial visit to my home was that Michele did not bring all the sample books, as I was considering re-doing all the windows in the room, not just the slider. But, in retrospect, it worked out fine. Michele e-mailed me a contract for the work to be done. I paid them half the fee upon ordering the shade, and the balance was due as soon as installation was complete. They let me know when the blind was available, made an appointment to install it, and Michele's husband came out and installed it on the appointed day. It's going on 3 months since installation, and the blind is working fine. They were pleasant to deal with and did a good job. I would use this company again.

It was an excellent experience. Michele came to my home a couple of times to help me select the appropriate materials and style for the different rooms. I have a street light that shines into one of the bedrooms, so light blockage was important. Michele helped me work through the options and was extremely patient while I went back and forth on what option to choose. Jeff did a wonderful job on the installation. He cleaned up after himself and I have had no problems with the shades at all. I need to replace the shades in the last couple of rooms soon and JM Wheeler will be my first call. They were extremely professional, always showed up on time, very responsive to phone calls: all in all a pleasure with which to work.

Michelle is extremely personable. She was very helpful and patient. The service provided was consistently excellent. Even follow up years later was hassle free. I would highly recommend!

I am not sure if they have a showroom. I got an appointment within a week of calling for an estimate. Jeff came out and gave me the estimate, and I gave him a deposit for the blinds. They arrived 2 weeks later, as predicted, and Jeff came over to install the blinds. He was prompt, very friendly, and very personable. He recommended a good book to me. He was very tidy at his work and cleaned up well after the work. For the second skylight, he couldn't get the blind to work. After he spent a considerable amount of time on it, he took it back out to get it repaired at the factory in the Sacramento area. After the blinds failed to work the first time around, I expected him to make sure that it worked before he returned to reinstall it. Unfortunately, after a considerable amount of time working on installing it second time, he again had to take it out and return it. He thought the factory hadn't assembled and tested it. He was successful the third time, but it still took considerable installation time. If I had had to take time off of work this would have been hugely inconvenient. Each time I called the office, I got voicemail, but if I emailed, I got almost instantaneous response from Michelle, so I found email the best way to communicate.

The experience was great. The company is a husband wife team. The wife comes out and does the measurements and the sales. The husband does the installation. They were both great. They were very personable and thorough. The price here was a little better than the others that I got.

Great experience overall. They were considerably cheaper than another company who had the same product. They also were able to make great suggestions for style, color, and type of shades to use. They also were on time, friendly with my kids, and cleaned up. I was also pleased how quickly the items were ordered and installed. I am getting ready to have them do two more rooms.

JM Wheeler is the best blind/shutter business in my opinion, anywhere. I look forward to installation day just to chat with Jeff and catch up like family. Jeff and Michele are so personable, professional and provide the highest quality of service exceeding all expectations. They have completely outfitted 2 of my homes with window treatments.
