Services we offer
We specialize in kitchen and bathroom remodeling from planning to completion. We also offer comprehensive cabinet design and installation services.
om Jacobs worked with me from the bid process until we were finished. Workmen were punctual and completed the work on schedule. They were careful to keep the dust to a minimum and always cleaned up after themselves before leaving for the day. They remove all wall board, installed a walk-in bath tub and handicapped toilet. Handicap grab bars were also installed. Doors to closet and hallway were replaced and the corrected molding around the closet door. Their cabinet man built a special vanity and medicine cabinet to match. (They turned out beautiful ) Subway tile was installed. They worked with me when the trim tile I chose turned out to be the wrong color and it was corrected. The project was scheduled for 15 days and the work was completed on time. I was very pleased with the service I received. Everyone from our salesman to the owner of the company were great. We are getting ready to start a second bathroom soon.
Description of Work: Removed wallboard Removed fixtures Removed/replaced doors Repaired door molding installed new wallboard install walk-in bathtub installed new vanity, medicine cabinet installed light fixture installed new toilet Installed new tile
Overall AKB was very through and very attentive to quality, appearance and style; from fine detail to structional work. The craftmanship was excellent. They were very responsive to our wishes and even our change in wishes. The price was reasonable and I would recommend AKB without reservation.
Description of Work: We had the master bathroom/bedroom remodeled with granite fireplace and vanity top, marbel shower, floor and walls. We also had the floors in the laundry room, hallway and powder room replaced with large clay tile. They finished each room with trim and accessories. Overall AKB was very through and very attentive to quality, appearance and style; from fine detail to structional work. The craftmanship was excellent.
Initial contact was great - good communication, no push to larger project (Case did this to us), honest complete estimates. Even during the year-end holidays, they did start working. They almost always showed up when expected, they were trustworthy with the house key, (though we hadn't moved in yet). Construction of cabinets - mostly Gary's work - was excellent, but electrical was terrible! Some outlets had no connection, the live 240v dryer socket was falling out of the wall, the breaker box was all mislabeled, and they left the Comcast box dangling. To be fair, the electrical was outsourced, and it really is Comcast's responsibility to handle the box, and they were slow due to the year-end holidays and rainy days. We should have checked more carefully. After-care was good: we found some construction defects, and they fixed everything we found - except electrical, we hired someone else to do that. Summary: they're good and honest especially for naive people like us, but you need to check their work! And don't rely on them for electrical work.
Description of Work: Kitchen full remodel (replace all cabinets, counters, sink, plumbing, electrical, gas); bathroom partial remodel (sink, cabinet, light, mirror); replace electrical outlets throughout the house from 2-prong to 3-prong

Thanks for your honest reply and describing your experience working with American Kitchen and Bath. We normally do the work from start to finish and do not have those problems. Several things that went wrong was that the electrical items in the garage that were not included in our agreement. They were to be done by another electrical contractor. The mess with the Cable TV box had nothing to do with us either. Sad that they left it like that. Anyhow, we truly appreciated working with you and your guys were great. Again, thanks

The overall experience was fine. He was fairly professional. He gave me a quote and followed up. I haven't decided to proceed. He also followed up with the questions that I have. He got right back to me. He made an appointment and he was on time. I might use them if I feel there is any appropriate project for them. I had a positive interaction with them.

Discussing the job and getting the estimate went well. The owner, Hans, came for this portion. The gentleman who came to do the hot mop to install the shower floor did a good job with that, although he washed so much gunk down the shower drain that my husband and I had to go to the store and buy a drain snake so we could unclog it and get it to drain properly afterward. This may have also been the fault of the tile installer. It's hard to say. The gentleman who floated the tiles did a nice job, except that he was also supposed to install a built-in shelf, but he installed it incorrectly the first time, which meant that I had to to out and buy another one, which cost an additional $80. He also failed to bring grout, so I had to go to the hardware store and buy grout for the tiles. This was another $100 expense. This same gentleman also somehow assembled the Hansgrohe ($$$) shower head incorrectly, which resulted in getting a washer stuck in the fixture. We were able to extract the washer but it was ruined, so we then had to cannibalize another Hansgrohe fixture to replace the broken washer, which meant that we were not able to use the faucet we had bought for the sink and ultimately had to replace that. The gentleman who did the paint job did not explain to us how the texture of the paint would look. I hated it, but felt it was better to just get the job done and have them out of there at that point. He also failed to bring baseboards, so I had to go buy those myself and paint them for him to install. The grout, the baseboards were both covered in our estimate and we ultimately paid for them twice. At that point, I just wanted the job over and have them out of our house. My husband and I ended up installing the sink ourselves, again, just to keep more bad things from happening. The shower came out great and the paint job, though not to my taste, was fine. It was me having to fill in all the little extras (broken shelf, messed up shower head, being sent to the store to buy my own grout, buying and painting the baseboards) that upset me. I paid a lot of money for what I got, which was a half-finished job that did not meet my expectations. This was my first experience with contractors and it was awful. I also felt somewhat patronized by the whole crew. When I called Hans to let him know about the shower shelf, the shower head, the baseboards, etc., he told me he would take it off the bill, but he didn't and when I tried to reconcile this with him at the end, he would not discuss it with me. I would not hire this company again or recommend them to anyone but the most seasoned of home improvement project supervisors. I felt taken advantage of.
Description of Work: The contractor was hired to redo a bathroom that we had gutted. We had already purchased most of the materials including sink, toilet, tiles for walk-in shower and fixtures for the sink and shower. We also primed the walls for painting. The contractor was hired to float the tiles and install the tiles for the walk-in shower, tile the floor, paint, and install the toilet and the sink and to install the baseboards around the floor.

Response from American Kitchen And Bath Inc
In response to the review provided: This job was done 2 years ago, the home owner started the project and made a mess; we were hired to complete the project. A lot of the homeowners work had to be removed, due to his errors and the poor quality of his work. Shower Drain: After we modified the shower drain, we covered the drain, until we completed the project. We did not spill tar, or debris in the drain pipe. It is very common for buildup in the pipes to swell, after the drain has not been used for weeks or in this case months; while they were doing the remodel by themselves. Or, possible, the homeowner may have dropped debris in the pipes himself. Had the shower drain been clogged due to the hot mop or tile installation, we would never expect a customer to buy a drain and unclog themselves. To do that would be extremely unprofessional. Built in shelf (soap dish) A soap dish can be installed two different ways. We used the most common installation style and we could have confirmed this prior to installation. If we were to install a soap dish incorrectly, we could simply turn it over. Not sure why a new box was ordered. Grout & Baseboards We did not bring the grout because the home owner supplied the tiles, and that means the grout also. The baseboards were to be in wood. We always supply that. I am guessing she went with tile baseboards. Shower Head (washer) My technician informed me that he did have a problem with the rubber washer. The home owner handed him the washer from another set. Our normal procedure is that we get a washer at Orchard Supply for $0.45. I do not understand why the customer would have to replace a faucet because of a missing washer that could be purchased. I would have gladly purchased a replacement, and this was an oversight that I am only hearing about now. Texture We offer four different texture options. I do not recall which texture was chosen. If I was told at the time, we would have textured it again in a texture that the customer was pleased with. Unless we are asked for a certain texture style, we use a standard texture in all jobs. Sink I do not recall why the customer would have re-installed their sink? We do the job from start to finish, including installing and testing the sink. This job was inspected by the building department. Not sure why they needed to reinstall the sink. Credit I personally left a message before we sent her the final invoice, to go over any credits she felt were owed; she did not call back, but did send the check. After reading this review I left her a message to discuss the credit she felt was owed, and again, she did not call back. If we owe her a credit, we will gladly refund this to her. This member is active in our military and we support our troops….American Kitchen & Bath did numerous items at a reduced or no cost. We rely on customer feedback and communication so that we can keep our strong reputation. I am sorry that I let this customer down and would like to resolve any outstanding concerns she may have. The price was between $12000 and $13000. The work done was good. The only problem that we had was in the billing, it seemed like in general the bookkeeping was a little bit unorganized. They overcharged us by about $500 which they promptly refunded us and so, that wasn?t a problem. That was their only weakness. In that case, it actually worked for us. They ended up giving us something extra which we didn?t ask for. I would tell anyone hiring them to be careful to make sure to check the billing again. There were a couple of things which they had caught. They had ordered the wrong sink which they had caught and that caused about a few days delay for them to reorder the right sink. We had specified that the shower walls were not to go all the way to the ceiling because we didn?t want to pay extra, but they ended up going all the way to the ceiling. In that case we got more than what we paid for. Other than that, there were a couple of minor delays here and there. However, it wasn?t really a big deal for us. I would probably use their services again.
Description of Work: We used the services of American Kitchen and Bath-Bathrooms by Hans for bathroom remodeling last summer. We had them replace almost everything like the fixtures, shower, floor, vanity, mirrors and everything else except for the toilet. We didn’t move anything structurally.

I didn't think I could afford them so we did not go with them. I could have had them come out and possibly liked them but in my initial phone call I thought it was too high. Turns out the person I went with I did not like and charged me about the same price. American Kitchen and Bath are worth calling and checking out. I would not base your decision on one phone call.

They did a very good job for us, I was very pleased with them. They went the extra mile to match the tile to the marble we had on our vanity. We were really pleased with the work they did and how it turned out. The work is very personal, they are very easy to reach. We had some timing problems and they did a good job of staying in touch.
Description of Work: American Kitchen & Bath did some upgrades to our master bathroom. The bathroom had been remodeled before but they added some things to it, such as enclosing the shower.
It turned out excellent. They were pretty much on time. The quality and price were excellent.

Description of Work: replaced a bathtub with a stall shower customized for someone with limited mobility
Everything went exceptionally well from the estimate to the work do the final touches. This is are only bathroom so we only had to be out of the house for 2 weeks and the bathroom was completely done in 3 1/2 weeks. My brother is a contractor and in his opinion this is amazing. Our bathoom was at least 40 years old and now looks new and modern.
Description of Work: Old bathroom was completed stripped to the studs and floor was partially replaced. I used the bathroom designer that work for American and she was fantastic. She went with us to pick out fixtures, tile and lighting. Everything was replaced with the exception of the window which was already new. The also installed a free standing swinging shower door which I love. The bathroom was small and instead of a medicine cabinet the sunk an arched mirror with a tile ledge into the wall. Which really makes the bathroom look bigger. The workman ship was excellent and very professional.

Johans oversaw the entire project from start to finish. He was ALWAYS accessible for my questions, comments etc (and I had a lot of them!), He had only the best people on the job. Ron was the supervisor, and he oversaw the demolition and installation. He was conscientious and extremely competent. Edgar did the tile, and he is an artist. They used Marblus Granite, and they were great with their installation, and they even came on Saturday because of a glitch in the timing. They were extremely efficient, and finished the job in three weeks plus one day, including the initial and final permit visits, and correcting minor plumbing problems. The rooms all look stunning. Everything went without a hitch, and when I hear some of the horror stories my friends tell about their remodeling, I feel very grateful. They did a wonderful job. And they guarantee their work.
Description of Work: My kitchen, and two baths were remodeled. Granite counters, a sink and stovetop were installed in the kitchen. Granite counter, tile and new sinks and toilet were installed in the hall bath. The master bath was totally remodeled, with new plumbing, new tub installed, as well as tile, granite counter, sinks and toilet.

I called for an estimate on a Friday; Johans, the owner of American Kitchen and Bath came out on Tuesday; we had the estimate on Wednesday. Time line: from the call for an estimate to the final payment upon completion--43 days. Johans is responsive, knowledgeable, adaptable, accomodating, professional and helpful. All of these adjectives can be boiled down to one sentence: He cared about us and our home. When he came out for the estimate and subsequent meetings in his showroom, he listened carefully and made suggestions, but not intrusively. Then he came up with his numbers. AKB's estimate was slightly higher than the others, but not so much higher when we considered that one contractor offered options, which, if the higher were taken, would take the estimated cost.higher. And we had to consider how the allowances added up--if we exceeded the least expensive fixtures, the estimated cost would again go up. It took us a while to visit showrooms and web sites and to add up numbers. I could have given AKB a "B" for price, but I didn't because we received value for our money. Johans' subcontractors were excellent. More important, his crew, with his lead person, Ron, was superb. They were always careful and considerate about how they worked and moved around the house, with quite a bit of time taken before they began the teardown to cover floors and other items that could be damaged or covered by dust. They cleaned up as they went along, not waiting until the end to do that. They cared about the quality of the work and did everything that was contracted and more. Johans showed up to check progress, and Ron always double checked the work.
Description of Work: Granite tops in kitchen and laundry; Corian in bathrooms; all necessary fixtures. This involved teardown and installation.

Hans and team are a very professional team. They seem great for "one stop" shopping. They seem like they would take care of every little detail. I believe they would do an excellent job and provide high quality materials and effort. They seem to be tops in being concerned and confident about each item in a tear out and remodel. They will do it all, but at a price that matches their covering all contingencies. We did not use them, went with a cheaper firm knowing we would be taking some risks of things not being included in the price. Hans and team are to be recommended to those who are not willing to have any surprises.
Description of Work: Quote Only: For kitchen and hallway redo. Included new kitchen counter tops, sink, flooring. No cabinet work.
We have not broken ground on any work yet, as we are rethinking future plans, but Johans has been very responsive the entire time. He knows his stuff and verifies things himself - which can be rare these days, especially during the estimate phase (checking the foundation, crawling under our house, assessing the attic space, etc.). I've slowed things down greatly because of some decisions my wife and I are still making about our remodel and Johans has been more than professional the whole way through...
Description of Work: I met with Johans a few times regarding an extensive kitchen remodel: wall removal, new cabinets & countertops, new lighting, plumbing changes, etc.. We have yet to begin any work but still look forward to beginning the project. Johans has been extremely responsive and honest, be it talking me through multiple questions that I've had (and still have) or going over budget concerns. Johans has been patient, helpful and understanding and I hope we can work together soon.

I can't say enough about the staff at American Kitchen & Bath. They all did an excellent job, start to finish! The new bathroom looks wonderful. We had gotten other estimates and then met with American Kitchen & Bath. They were very detailed about what they could do and good about explaining our options. It was clear from the beginning that this is a professional company and the staff has a lot of experience. The estimate included their recommendations for everything needed including paint and fixtures. It was convenient to go to their shop, get advice on what would work and have them the order parts. The workmen were amazing at cleaning up and careful to protect other areas of the house. I would most definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: American Kitchen & Bath performed a complete bathroom remodel. The job included a demo of the entire existing bathroom (they stripped it down to the wall studs). They then repaired a major shower leak, replaced piping, ran additional electrical lines for a new ceiling fan/heater, installed new sheet rock as needed, installed fixtures, flooring, baseboards, sink, toilet and cultured marble shower. They also painted the new bathroom. Extra jobs included installing new valves for our washer, unclogging another bathroom sink and installing a new kitchen faucet.

Began on time and proceeded fairly well, except for some minor delay with getting some materials. Tile contractor and his helper could have been neater, but the majority of the work done by Gary was professional, efficient, and trustworthy. He was aware of the "customer's needs" at all times. Sometimes communication was slow, but they always "made it right" in the end. I am very satisfied with my new bath!

I have only had a couple of meetings with them so far and they seem to be pretty detail oriented. I spoke with the in house designer and she seems to be very knowledgeable. The thing I most appreciate is that she doesn't seem to be the type of person who will sell me things I don't need. The one thing that turned me off a little is that during the first couple of interactions with the person who did the bid they seemed a little bit disorganized and couldn't find my file. Hopefully they would be better about that now that I have met with them a couple of times. We are leaning toward using them.
Description of Work: I am considering American Kitchen and Bath for a bathroom remodel. They would be replacing the shower, vanity, floor and lighting.
