About us
I started "I'll Handle It" to address what I recognized as a need that homeowners have for competent, knowledgeable and courteous home improvement service professionals to help them with all manner of projects large and small. Founded in San Diego, "I'll Handle It" is a home grown business that prides itself in its responsiveness to its customers needs. At "I'll Handle It" "Professional Service You Can Rely on" is our mantra, and we can prove it.
I hired Dave to install a faucet. The price quoted was $75 - $100. The total charge was $180 labor + $9.68 parts. The job took more than 9 hours over a 3-day period; most his time spent repairing leaks that he caused. He spent over an hour at Home Depot (2 miles from my home), at my expense, where he purchased gas fittings instead of fittings appropriate for water pipes, wasting both my time and my money. I had to call him twice because of water leaks. My new cabinet was ruined. He attempted to charge me for all of the additional time he spent repairing leaks that he caused. When I refused to pay the additional charges, he threatened me with a mechanic's lien. I then filed a complaint with the state Contractor's Board. In my opinion, Mr. Pfizenmeier lacks the skill and character normally expected from qualified professionals, and caution should be taken when considering him for a plumbing job. Although he did not charge me for the additional time, it was extremely inconvenient and a complete waste of my time.
Description of Work: He changed a faucet.

Response from I'll Handle IT
I visited the homeowner in April of 2010 to install a kitchen faucet. I estimated the project at $100.00 barring any complications. We'll there were complications. The homeowner purchased a faucet that had an unusual supply hook up which required a special fitting which I procured from Home Depot. I inadvertently picked up the wrong fitting so I apologized and went back to the store to get the right one. This only took about 30 mins, and I did not charge for this time as this was my mistake. So I finished the job and checked for leaks as I always do. Getting the special fitting added time because of the nature of the faucet. When I presented the invoice for $180.00 she was a little surprised because I don't think she heard me say " The Estimated Cost". She paid it and I left. About 2 days later I received a call telling me that there was a leak under the sink. I pushed all my other work aside and went right back to her house, because I stand behind everything I do, and I found that the leak was from a compromised garbage disposer gasket. This was totally unrelated to what I did. So I told her that I would go get the part and fix it but I would also clear an obstruction that she had in the garbage disposer hose. I did all of this at absolutely no labor charge, just the cost of the gasket, $10.00, which she refused to pay. This entire episode only took 6 hours, 3 of which were free. By the way she also had a friend come by on the second visit to try and intimidate me by standing over me while I was under the sink, which was very unnerving. As to her comments about the Contractors Board. I encourage anyone to go to the Contractor State License Board and look for the complaint that she claims to have filed. I have not been notified of any complaints and you won't find one. I take great pride in my responsiveness to any problem that a homeowner may have, given the chance. The complaint that she was referring to was one filed with the BBB, which is where she found me in the first place. A complaint that I disputed and won 4 years ago. As to this" Threatening a mechanics lien": First of all I would not nor have I ever threatened anyone about anything and second of all , in order to file a mecahnic's lien , you have to have a contract. There was no contract in this case and never any mention of a mechanic's lien. California only requires a contract on jobs over $499.00. So this is an absolute fabrication by the homeowner. I feel badly that I have to go to such lengths to refute this homeowners comments after 4 years. I responded to this customers needs with great expediency and even gave her extra services unrelated to what I had done for free as a good faith gesture. I feel that anyone reading this should hire us based on the other 96 plus "A" reviews and not on one false and unfair review. To make unwarranted comments about our character and professionalism in this way, especially after 4+ years have gone by is simply unfair and wrong. We will certainly explain our rates more clearly in the future and hope that you will book our services the next time you have a project that you need completed by a courteous and professional Handyman. Thank You.

I have a door from my garage into the house that had a cracked frame. The door was hanging crooked and could no longer close unless I lifted it up by the door knob and pulled it closed. Dave came out to give me an estimate on fixing the door, but as soon as he looked at the door, he decided he could fix it right then, which he did. It took him about 10 minutes to fix the door. He asked if there was anything else I needed done, and so he also changed an outside light. The old light was about 50 years old, and I had already bought a replacement for it, so Dave installed the new light for me. Altogether, the two jobs took Dave about 35 minutes. I'm very impressed with the quality and efficiency of Dave's work and I wll definitely use him for other jobs around my house in the future.

Dave was wonderful from start to finish. I almost hesitate to write this because I don't want others to know how great he is. First off, he communicates in a timely, clear manner by email. (This is huge for me because I can't always get on the phone at work.) We set a date and he emailed me with plenty of notice that he needed to adjust the time. He called on his way and arrived exactly when he said he would. He was very patient with my dogs, was a clear communicator and had lots of advice for my problem. He clearly explained how the water was escaping, what we could do to correct it, and how long it would take him. He had all his own supplies, including an air compressor that proved critical to drying out my shower. He was done in about an hour, just like he said, and his hourly rate of $70 is very reasonable. He even offered to come back and re-do the caulking free of charge if any water escaped after he left. But of course, that won't be necessary- his workmanship is awesome and we have not had any problems. I'm already compiling a list of things for him to do on his next visit!
Description of Work: Dave removed old and damaged caulking form my shower and dried out the area. Then he replaced the caulking inside and outside the shower with new sealant.

It went great! Dave and his helper were very speedy and neat. They were right on time. Got right to work and probably were at my house for no more than a couple of hours.
Description of Work: Did a great job. I was required to replace my trim on the Chimney due to dry rot. (sited by HomeOwnerAssoc) But when Dave was up on the roof, he said there wasn't any dry rot and with some patching and painting, my trim would be good for a long time. Dave was very professional and helpful. I felt I really got my money's worth. I would hire him again.

This is a request for a quote that just simply fell through the cracks. We offer no excuses and apologize for this. We are always trying to improve our service, and this can only help us realize that customer responsiveness has to be our top priority. I've used Dave a few times. Always does a great job. I tell him what I need and it gets done. Im usually not even home. He goes in and takes care of everything. All his work is like he's doing it for himself. Top quality work. This last project, I have a downstairs bath that I wanted to update. I had bought all of items I wanted like vanity, tiles, toilet, etc. I wasn't in a hurry to do the job. Then all of the sudden I was having guests. I called Dave and asked if he could get it done. I knew he was jammed with work. He called me back and said he could do it over a few days. He just let himself in and over a few days it was done. It looks awesome! The paint, tile, backsplash, lights, toilet, mirror, vanity....beautiful! Dave's a good guy and I wouldn't think of using anyone else. He is extremely fair and does great work. What more could you want? Actually, I need to call him....new project.

I called Dave on Monday asking if he could come on Thursday to install a new exterior door handset. I was having the exterior of my home painted and the painter would have the old handset removed with the door prepped, painted and ready for the new handset by Thursday afternoon. I knew it was short notice and would have understood had he not been able to make it. Dave was very accommodating and said he would come out Thursday afternoon. I greatly appreciated it.

Dave was booked up, so I decided to wait the 3 weeks it took to have him work for me. I decided to do this based on all the good reviews I had read about him. I had numerous small jobs that had to be done, i.e. install a new outdoor light, repair outside garden stairs, install new galvanized pipe on water heater exhaust, +++. Dave arrived promptly at 8:00, surveyed parts needed, went to store, and completed everything by 3:30! He worked very efficiently and neatly. He also does not claim to be able to do everything. I have a warped outside back door, which Dave said could not be repaired, but needs to be replaced. I've already started on a new list of things for Dave to do next visit. Dave was a pleasure to have working at my house, and I definitely recommend him, to work inside or out.

First and foremost, Dave is HONEST and FAIR and he's super nice. Dave is my handyman for life. I met Dave at my rental unit for a quote. My first impressions were that he's a nice person and he knows his craft. He sent me a very reasonable and fair quote that afternoon. He said it would be a two-day job. The day before Dave was to start, he called to let me know that he would need to come two hours later than originally scheduled. I was appreciative of that. I was able to re-plan my morning and it worked out well. So I met Dave at the rental unit and he reviewed with me all the things he was going to work on. He also reviewed all the items he would be buying. He was patient with me when I couldn't decide on the color for the doorknob and light fixture. As we were reviewing the work to be done, I ended up adding a few more things to the job. He was able to accommodate the additional items into the two-day timeframe and said he would charge me $30 more for labor plus the cost of the supplies. Dave took out the old-style CFL tubes and plastic light panels in the kitchen. He installed 4 recessed canister lights, patched holes, texturized to match the rest of the ceiling, installed molding and painted. It looks beautiful and perfect. He installed a dimmer switch so now there can be ambience in the kitchen. I was supposed to buy a range hood so that Dave could install it. I forgot to buy it, but Dave said he'd pick one up for me when he was buying the supplies for the kitchen lights. He installed two light fixtures on the balcony. He hung a curtain rod. He readjusted a slipped gasket on the mirrored closet doors. He replaced the doorknob and lock. The lock ended up not catching, so Dave came out the next day. The door is an 1/8" smaller than it should be, so the lock wasn't going in completely into the catch mechanism. Dave fixed the problem with shims and extra long screws. I have had problems with that door and lock ever since I've owned this rental unit. I don't think I'll have that problem anymore thanks to Dave. Dave did not expect to be paid for the lock fix, and was surprised when I insisted he take my check. Dave is a man of integrity and his work is impeccable.
Description of Work: Changed old kitchen light panels and CFL tubes to recessed lighting and molding detail, installed a new dimmer switch, replaced 2 light fixtures, installed a curtain rod, fixed and readjusted sliding closet doors, installed new front door lock and doorknob, installed a range hood.

A review of all e-mail communications clearly shows that we were completely responsive to all requests. In this case it wasn't our schedule that was tough it was the customer's. On two occasions we suggested dates and times to come out and provide a quote. Both times it was the customer couldn't make the suggested visit work. It is clear that this review is completely unwarranted. We pride ourselves in our responsiveness to our customers needs. In this case the review is unfair. Just take a look at the other 85 "A" ratings.

Dave did a great job of updating our bathroom which was much in need of updating. He installed a ceiling fan and an outlet (no more plugging the hairdryer in the living room outlet with a long extension cord!). He had a subcontractor install penny tile flooring after removing the existing linoleum tile and prepping the concrete floor. He removed the old vanity (probably the original from 1955 when the house was built) and installed a new vanity, which was a bit tricky because he had to center the plumbing which was originally off center on the old vanity. He fixed many bumps and lumps in the walls, drywalling where necessary, than smoothed, primed and painted. He was very communicative through the whole process, from estimate to finish. I actually was at times a bit nervous about the potential issues that he brought up, but he handled them all in stride, and I soon realized he just wanted us to be aware of the potential issues so there would be no surprises (and there were none). We bought all the materials except for the fan and some extra hardware needed for installing the vanity (it didn't come with very good wall hangers and it's a floating vanity) and the outlet switch and primer (I'm sure he would've paid for paint but I went to HD to get a special mold resistant paint). He threw in replacing the lighting fixture for free, which was really nice and tied up some loose electrical odds and ends while he was in the attic area, figuring out the installation of the fan and outlet. Much appreciated! He wasn't able to install some end tile we had hoped to put around the existing shower tile but that was the fault of the previous installer, not him. All told, it took a full week (including weekend), which was a bit more than the time estimated, partly due to some things taking a bit longer than anticipated (we have a very old electrical system) and partly due to his busy schedule, which is to be expected with any good contractor. But he came both days on a weekend himself to finish the job before the start of the next week and he stayed on budget! So we were happy. He was very professional, friendly, responsive to text and emails, punctual and I felt completely comfortable with him doing work in the house. He's licensed and insured and uses contracts so I was very confident as far as that sort of thing goes. We hope to use him again for our kitchen, if I can ever get the husband to agree on what kind of flooring we should get, ha ha ha! The backyard fence that I share with a neighbor sustained damage during a recent wind storm -- five fence posts snapped at the ground, leaving the fence severely leaning to one side. We braced the fence for fear that the lean would damage the remainder of the fence, which was still in good shape. During the next few weeks I contacted several fencing companies in the region, some of which quoted me $2,000-plus to repair, while others simply would not even give it a glance because the job was "too small." Finally, I got in touch with I'll Handle It handyman service (Dave Pfizenmeier) who responded within days to give me a very reasonable quote and detailed worksheet. Dave fixed the fence at a fraction of what the larger fence companies had quoted -- and he was able to trim a few bucks off the cost by reusing some of the original materials and tacking on a 10% discount for using Angie's List! We are very pleased with workmanship and professionalism, and so glad there is still someone out there that is willing to take on the smaller, but equally important jobs that some of us need. I plan to use Dave in the future for other household repairs and will definitely have him in mind when replacing the entire length of fence in a few years. A great biz!

I called and left a message for David to return my calls and he did, we were just playing phone tag, he finally got a hold of me and I explain that do the Sana Anta's winds my fence was trown down, David informed me that he was completely book for the month of of May, Just my luck, what really impress me about David was that although he was book for the Month of May he had me go and take a few pictures of my fence and send it to him, David look at the pictures I sent him and asked my a few question in which I had to run back and forth to my broken fence, but it I was fine with that because of David willingeness to help me, after gathering all the information for David he gave me a qoute, I was please with that qoute. If I can hold out til June I will give David this job to do. But I also have another fence that is on list to do and David will be getting this one for sure. In closing I just wanted to say that I must of called about 15 companies and the only one to call me back was David's company ( I'll Handle it ). As stated David informed me that is was completely book for the month , Now I work with a lot of contractors before and when they say they are booked up theyclosed the door in your face. Not in this case David professionalism was outstanding, yes he booked but he was willing to still help me out, now that is something that don't happen much and as a customer I really appreciated that and thank you David.

It was our pleasure to help whenever we can. I hope that Ervin gets his fence fixed sooner than later. I'll Handle It is a service business. The service doesn't always mean we are going to do the job at hand, It is very important to us that we acknowledge a homeowner's request and help however we can. We look forward to helping in the future.

Everything went well. Dave is always on time and cleans up afterwards. He does great work and is quite the handyman. I will definitely use him again.
Description of Work: I have had several projects completed by Dave at "I'll handle it". Created a doorway to storage space under stairs, repaired leak to toilet, and adjusted door.
