I recently bought a 60 year old home which has been fully renovated. We didn't know when the fireplace had last been cleaned and wanted to have it fully serviced before Christmas. We knew the damper was stuck and that the chimney needed a spark arrester. We love supporting local businesses and booked two appointments with Hearth and Home - first for their "Free Estimate" and the second, to have the chimney cleaned and the other work done. It took 10 days to get on their schedule. I took the afternoon off to make our appointment. 30 minutes after our appt. time passed, I called to get a status update but no one answered. So, I left a message to call me back. The guy didn't show up and I didn't get a call back the next day - which was a Friday. Our next appointment was scheduled for Monday and I had no idea if they were going to show up. I called in again. Was given a very odd excuse for their appointment mix up. But no apology. And obviously, no follow up call after 2 business days from my original appointment. When the technician did finally come, he showed up two hours after our scheduled time and installed the spark arrester and adjusted the damper. He also vacuumed soot out of the fireplace with his shop vac and created a soot cloud in my house that took 20 minutes to settle... I learned you don't use a shop vac to vacuum soot. He no-showed on me, didn't call me back, was 2 hours late when he did show up, made a huge mess, and charged me $140 labor for 45 minutes of his time. After the disaster, he attempted to sell me custom fireplace doors. (I could barely believe it.) I still don't know if the fireplace needs a proper cleaning because they didn't schedule the chimney sweep for my appointment. Also worth noting - the technician is the owner of the company.
Description of Work: Damper repair/adjustment. Install of spark arrester. Fireplace cleaning.

I'VE WORKED WITH THEM BEFORE, SO IT WAS VERY PLEASANT. THEY ARE VERY GOOD. THEY ACTUALLY CAME EARLY ONE DAY TO GET THE WORK DONE.
Description of Work: WE HAD A FIREPLACE MANTLE PUT IN. THEY INSTALLED TWO FIREPLACE DOORS, ONE ON EACH SIDE, WITH A FIREPLACE LOG IN ONE. THE LOG IS ABOUT $400, WHICH WAS A SURPRISE.
