Mr. Handyman Serving South Bay

We've been frustrated with managing other handymen, particularly with respect to scheduling them and having them finish the job in a timely manner, so this time we went with Mr. Handyman, in hopes that the service with a larger, more professional company would be better...and it was. Working with Mr. Handyman was a pleasant and professional experience from start to finish. Scheduling is easy, you know up front how their rate structure works, and then the Handyman showed up on time, was very professional, and got the job done.

I estimated the job would take a day for someone experienced, and I was correct. The handyman showed up on time, and I gave him a prioritized list of the various jobs. He worked without supervision, although I did check in a few times, and was done by the end of the day. He was professional, friendly, respectful, and his work looked good. I did find a couple of errors the next day, but with one phone call, he was dispatched to correct them and everything was ok. Overall, I am very happy with their work. The office staff is very responsive and efficient, which makes a big difference to me. I would recommend Mr. Handyman to anyone.

The person sent to my house was very professional. He explained what needed to be done and how long it would take. When the work was done I felt confident that the enclosure was correctly installed and would hold up in windy weather.

This project began rather well but the work started to get bad quickly. Mr. Handyman came out and responded to our issues and actually fired the contractor on the spot. It was unfortunate to see this happen, but I was very pleased that he made an honest and effective business decision about the job. He understood that it was not good work and helped fix the issue. I thought the work was good and I would use them again in the future.

Steve was right on time, business-like, and efficient. He did all of the above work in just 90 minutes whereas it may have taken me the entire day to do the same tasks. Best of all, he did everything well, and my place looks great now. My only concern is that I thought the service was a bit pricey. I was charged $49 per half hour which amounts to $98 per hour. This doesn't include the $64 service fee that I was also charged on top of this.

Mr. Handyman just left! He was actually EARLY! My closet doors had been off for years....one, two, three he got out the sander, got out some hardware and I now have closet doors. Shane was quick, polite, dressed nicely and I would use this company again. On time (early), fast and clean. A+ all around

They arrived on time and completed the job quickly. My husband was very pleased with the work. We have used the company several times and have always been satisfied with its service.

It took the technician nearly 4 hours to complete the job, and he charged $469.00 which I thought was expensive.

My mother reported some intermittent trouble with her light switch. I went to her house, discovered the trouble might be in the switch on the wall, and I took photos. I used Angie's List to find a handyman near her house with a high grade and found 2. I sent them the photographs (uploaded to Picasaweb.google.com and sent a link). Mr.Handyman gave the better response (not cheaper, but they would take a look at it sooner). I arranged a time by internet after okaying that time with my mother by phone, and warned Mr.Handyman to be gentle with her because she doesn't like strangers in the house. She didn't want them doing any more work than necessary. They obliged this request willingly, were gentle, it went very well. She would be comfortable with their doing more work. The receptionist with whom I spoke by telephone seemed familiar with this kind of situation, and as a company they seemed very well set up for this kind of request by distance. Only one problem: one of the switches had a very odd shape. They told me by phone they could replace it, but in fact they couldn't. I wouldn't blame them much because it's a stranger shape than is obvious by the photograph. And now her light works fine.

Everything was great. They are very professional, do quality work, and the staff is very friendly. They are knowledgeable and competent, and there isn't a task that they can't handle. We have had the company out nearly 7 times now, and each experience has been truly excellent.

We called Mr. Handyman to help us with our water heater and a leaky toilet. Before they arrived, they were upfront and said they may not be able to fix the water heater. I asked if I should call a plumber instead, and they said no. So we went ahead and scheduled the appointment. Communication was good and prompt. The Handyman arrived a little after the time window we were given; we were the first appointment of the day. He was professional and very nice, but he was not able to help with either the water heater or the toilet. I was told we needed to replace both. He said he could replace the toilet, but I knew that would take a few hours, and my husband could do that. He was only at my home for about 15 minutes. We were charged $114. That seems extremely spendy to me for simply being told both items needed to be replaced. Additionally, once we purchased a new hot water heater and had it installed, we found out the old one was fine - it just needed to have a small part replaced. Needless to say, I would not use them again.

My projects took two trips to complete. Danny arrived promptly on the each scheduled appointment day and is a very pleasant person. He reviewed the situation on the first visit, and due to his expert advise we decided to keep and adjust our existing rain gutters, rather than remove them altogether. I'm glad we took his advise! Danny worked diligently and neatly the whole time he was at my house. My only issue was he's basically "on the clock" even when driving to and shopping for parts, etc. It seems to me that a "travel rate" might be a bit fairer since those trips could end up costing a bundle if traffic is an issue. But, overall, we are very pleased with the service from my initial phone call until completion.

He did a good job. It has held up and level. It is absolutely where it should be. He was very courteous and polite. He showed up on time.

It was fine. They did a nice job.

The guy he sent over was very competent and knew what he was doing. He gave me good advice. I have no complaints at all.

They did the job; it was a bit expensive, but they did it well.

It was okay, but it was expensive. There was a lot of paint left on the windows. He wanted to do the speckle on the ceiling instead of painting, but it wasn’t really what I wanted. I was able to clean off the paint from the windows.

First Christie returned my call (something I had issues with a few other companies), and set a time that worked for my busy schedule. Then Danny was on time, friendly, and very professional. He went right to work and did a great job on both of the doors. Then we looked at the front porch and determined that due to posts that were on top of the board, it was going to require a lot more time than I had hoped. In the end Danny patched a few spots with some super patch material, until we decided about the fate of the deck longer term.

Steve was professional and very nice. He did a nice job repairing the cabinet above the oven and installed the over the range microwave. I also appreciated his advice re his fixing the existing screen and sliding door vs. my buying new ones. For two hours of work however, the cost is on the higher side. Overall, I would use them again given the professional courtesy and availability.

The repairman, Steven, arrived within the scheduled window and after conferring with me about the repairs went straight to work. He needed to go to Home Depot for the water heater part which took about 30 minutes. He did a great job with the drywall repair and was able to fix both toilets. While he changed out the water heater connection, he was unable to turn the water back on after he finished and had to call for another handyman to fix the problem. The dryer vent went uncleaned. He billed for 2.5 hours which included the trip to Home Depot. The second handyman, Sherman, arrived before Steven left. He assessed the problem with the water heater and determined that the valve and both lines to the water heater needed to be replaced. He, too, billed for the trip to Home Depot to purchase necessary parts. He was very knowledgeable and able to complete the job at an additional cost of $421.65 which included 3 hours of labor. I was happy overall with the results but would have appreciated being assigned the technician with the most experience. You may want to ask more questions about the technician's experience before scheduling.

Mr. Handyman Company was fine. The people who come out did a decent job. I just thought that they were a little bit over priced. I knew what the price was, however they did a good job. I will use them in future if necessary.

Very good. Scheduled an appointment and received confirmation of the appointment time via email. Person arrived early and did a great job of fixing everything. Helped me out with a bunch of little problems to make a condo rent-ready.

I was arranging for this work to be done, but was not able to personally meet with Ed Reilly to finalize the estimate, since I was traveling back and forth between Cal and Texas. Though the actual worker was met by my property manager, Mr. Reilly and I agreed on the work scope by phone. Mr. Reilly was VERY THOROUGH and professional in defining the work scope, and was very clear about their pricing structure. The work was done, in my absence, and observed by my property manager. The worker brought some material, based on the scope, but also had to purchase some material once he arrived on site and observed the requirements firsthand. The work was completed in 6.5 hours. From the pictures sent to me by Mr. Handyman after completion, and from personal observation after I returned to Cal, the work appeared neat and professional. I engaged another handyman operation to actually hang the door (I thought the Mr. Handyman hourly rate on the above project was a bit high, but now I'm not so sure). It turned out some of the work done by Mr. Handyman's worker had to be re-done, since the jamb could not support (weight) the door being installed. I was present to personally observe the problem, and verified the installer's assessment was correct, however I was not able to stop the work in order for Mr. Handyman to come over to observe the problem. But, get this.......when I did notify Mr. Reilly of the problem encountered, and the additional cost to correct it, he returned to me half of that additional cost! I am convinced that Mr. Handyman, had they been doing the door install, would have corrected the problem at no additional cost to me. So, for them to return half of my added cost was completely fair. How's that for standing behind your work! So, despite the problem encountered, Mr. Handyman stays on my bidders list. In fact, I'm going to ask them to propose on another job here very soon. I really like the way Ed Reilly does business!

Arrived about 10 min early. Very polite and professional. Got right to work. Great job and then cleaned up.

After we had desperately accumulated 5 or 6 repairs, not knowing who to call, my husband saw one of the Mr. Handyman trucks. Dan came out and just started fixing things. It was great.
