Jose Mendez Tile

It went well. You do have to watch the guys though. You will be more pickey then they are. Especially with tile...little alignment issues in the beginning can be magnified in the final lines. Take a look at things a couple of times each day and if you see things starting to wander ask them to tear up and re-do. This is relatively normal for ceramic tile work. Note that there are some types of tiles that are not all the same size. Those types have to be installed in a sort of and quot;averagingand quot; technique that allows for the variations. In the end...we were very pleased with the design, the execution, the clean -up, and the crew. The price was also very fair.

It went very well. The garage was empty so they had the run of the garage to install at their time.

He decided to use thinset for the typical 4X4 ceramic tile on the hardibacker around the tub and extending a tub wall. The rest was gold-bond purple board mold-resistant drywall, with the tile installed using thin latex mastic. The mastic wall came out OK; minor errors where tile corners didn't line up, but an average job when spacers are not used in the corners. Two of the hardibacker/thinset walls were about average. But the small thinset/hardibacker alcove wall at the foot of the tub was absurd. Each tile tilted in a different direction, with corners sticking up or pushed in sometimes almost a quarter-inch. At first I thought maybe it could be hidden with the corner pieces, but then I realized the corner pieces were longer and with the corners straight the adjacent tile alternately stuck out or was pushed in a LOT. Anyway, he showed up one day without his assistant, and went home immediately thereafter. Can't fault the guy for getting sick, it happens to the best of us. But why no helper?? Indicates no intention to stay IMHO? The next day he didn't show up or call, but eventually he had his son call at about 7:00 PM. By then I'd spent 5 hours with my helper tearing down half the tile on the one wall with the crappy tile job he'd already been paid for, and then chipping off the dry thinset. It was diffciult to decide where to stop.the demolition of the unacceptable work. I'm not going to ask for money back or hold his tools. If he'd shown up I'd have given him the chance to fix it on his own time. But he stopped coming and I already hired someone else by the time I heard from him. Bottom line: nice guy, nice kids and nice assistant, and some of the work was OK but the quality was inconsistent and some had to be torn down and re-done. I can't hold this against him, as I did not give him an opportunity to correct the problems. But this job is under time constraints, and quality problems with one wall set us back a half-day of demolition and a half-day to re-do. Still, if he'd continued to show up I would have continued to use him.

Jose is an excellent tile installer. He and his crew were on-time and polite. He went out of his way to try and keep the dust at a minimum because I have asthma. He installed 20and quot; tiles in our foyer, on stairs, throughout a long hallway, in the breakfast nook and kitchen. He takes his time and is very careful. I would definitely use him again.

Work was done well. Not perfect, well.

They handled both types of new tile beautifully. One of our rooms used to be a garage that was converted to a bedroom before we purchased the house so the floor was extremely uneven. Jose took the extra time to level everything out before installing. It caused the job to run late, but it was understandable considering what he was having to work with. The end product turned out great and we couldn't be happier. We would definitely hire Jose again.

Jose did a great job doing all the tile work for my bathroom. He was very professional and punctual and always cleaned up at the end of the day. It was obviously important to Jose to make sure I was happy with all the details. He always made sure he understood exactly how I wanted it done and never got offended or annoyed when I had questions or wanted to make small changes. In the end the tile was beautiful. He did such a great job on the bath tile that when he was done I gave him my patio tile job which also came out great. I highly recommend Jose and will definitely be hiring him again in the future.

The pricing is fair. I will use him again.

Jose Mendez tile is a family owned and operated team. They came out on a Sunday to give mean estimate and started work about a week later. The job was small, but very complicated installing porcelain tile and metal trim on a stair. The detailing had to be right on due to the modern style of our place. Nose and his team did a great job given the difficulty of the install. They finished on time and on budget. I will definitely use them for future work.

He turned into the DEVIL! Worst experience of my life!! Jose was hired to repair a leaking shower pan and had to tile shower...when I questioned his workmanship, and why the tile was not lined up properly, he exploded on me lashing out and quot;f*** this s***! You don't know anything about tile! and quot; I asked him not to use profanity because my children could hear him.He pulled all the floor tiles off and threw them to the floor. He grabbed a hammer and turned towards me calling me a and quot;B****,and quot; and starting hammering the shower wall tiles breaking tile work. He was screaming F*** this F*** that!!!!!! His son ran and stood in front of me as if he knew this man to be a beater. He said f*** this s*** lets go! He continued insulting me and cursing...I asked him to leave or I would call the cops and he said to my face and quot;I don't care! He took some of my tiles as he exited my home using profanity. I quickly locked the door behind him to protect my two children who stood there frozen from all the commotion and called the police. A police report was filed which will be forwarded to the district attorney for possible charges. The officer who was at my home urged me to leave feedback on Angie's list to make other innocent people aware of this crazy man that you may let in your home....this could have got really bad and unfortunately my children were here to witness this all. He did not care of two young children seeing and hearing his unprofessional behavior. DON'T LET HIM IN YOUR HOME!!!!! UPDATE: Jose you are a liar. There is no excuse for what you did in my home! I you make an excuse for everyone that post negative feedback on here. When asked on the other job of $30,000 you said these guys were crazy and and quot;GAYand quot; ! You lie! How could I be racist if I am the same race as you.!! Hispanic! You demoed my shower and you had a hammer and other items while you worked. I would never have used my children to place feedback if it was not true! Plus you have no pending license the officer checked. You did what I said you did in my home and you were terrible wrong for loosing your cool. I told you from the beginning I would pay at the end of the job because I have felt with people that take your money without completing the job! However I paid you hot mop guy and as a matter of fact he got another job thru my neighbor. You are crazy and have no professionalism and I hope the district attorney does pick up the case so that you get what you deserve! Wow in disbelief of what you say! Terrible person you are!!

Jose Mendez was hired one hour after he completed the estimate. This was because of his professional demeanor. My washroom had been painted as an outer space room. Mr. Mendez was able to complete the tile with the same theme as the room. During the estimate, I was told it was going to take two days. They were done the same day. The floor looks awesome. They even showed me some space saving ideas when they replaced the washer and dryer. I will be hiring Jose Mendez again.

Absolutely awesome. Jose and his crew are expert workers at a good price. They arent a big company so if you are hiring them you need to make sure you have your materials in order and a clear schedule laid out. The guys installed flooring on several bathrooms. The flooring was natural store and it was butt jointed (a harder install). There was minimal lippage and the layout was done correctly (no little tiles in some areas or bad cuts around toilet, etc.). They grouted and sealed and cleaned up after themselves. They also demoed a large amount of flooring (I provided bin). The demo was done correctly (all the scraping so a new install could proceed). They also assisted in applying self-leveling compound to make sure a new install was done correctly. This was a big help and quite frankly something that a lot of people would just skip over. Jose also arranged for hot mopping, replaced some rotted woods, pulled and reinstalled a toilet, etc.. Just a lot of extra work at a really good price. The shower install was also done really nicely. The installed the niche, dam and trim correctly with really nice clean lines. I highly recommend these guys especially if you have all your materials in order and your job is ready to go.

It went really bad. I had to fire them because they took my money. It cost $12,500 and $2,000 had to be left on the account upon completion. They estimated the job would take two weeks and it took three months to complete the job. They didn't come for two days and I asked them what was going on. They said they ran out of money and asked if I could give them more money. I told them no and that they needed to finish the job. They said they were broke and couldn't buy more materials. The job started in April and I fired them one month ago. The job isn't finished and I can't find anybody to finish it for $2,000. Everybody wants $4,000 to finish the job. They have no professionalism. Everything was really bad. Update: The amount of the job was quoted by an Angies List rep and was quoted incorrectly. I just happen to log back in and read this message so I corrected my review. But, going back to your work, I dare you to post the contract which states that 2K has to be left on the account and will paid to you upon completion. You forgot to mention that you admitted that you ran out of money to pay for the material. You used my money to pay for previous work that you owe your workers. Bottom line is, you are to finish your work before you get the 2K. The money left on the account was $1700.00 (I believe). So I have the right to not give you the $500.00 dollars you were requesting. You left so many things undone...like, cracks, grouting, etc... I believe in KARMA and base on the review I read from your other client above, I hope it comes and bite you soon! I could take you to court for breach of contract if I want to, but I would only feel sorry for you cause I know you will loose. Specially that you are operating without a valid contractor license here in the state of California. I suggest you take a business class so you can manage your business and financial situation well. My advise to people that will use him: DO NOT GIVE him most of your money until the job is completely done. Make sure to leave enough on the account and get EVERYTHING in writing.

Jose was very easy to work with. As always I get at least 3 estimates for any job I'm thinking of having done. Jose's wasn't the cheapest (the middle), but I just had a good feeling about him. He gives off a very honest vibe. Lucky for me my gut feelings paid off. He took care of purchasing the tile, removing all the old tile, repairing some structural issues that had to be addressed before the new tiling could be done (surprise issues of some really bad wood rot), and installing new tile. He brought along a helper and they were both punctual and professional. The job turned out beautifully. He definitely knows his stuff and I would definitely use him again.

Mr. Mendez did a great job installing tile on my two balconies. The job was relatively small, the balconies are only about 4' by 12'. Here are the reason I would use him again, or recommend him to others: 1. Very polite, professional and respectfull of our home. For example, they covered the work area and hall way leading from the door to the work area with plastic to prevent dust or footprints. Also, he made sure that the door was closed while doing the dirty job of pulling up the old floor covering. They made me feel very comfortable to have them in my home and did not worry about damage. 2. He brought potential issues to my attention before starting the work. I appreciated spending a lot of time before the work started to just talk about potential problems and (most importantly) solutions, and what I wanted out of the job. 3. The quality of the work is excellent. Mr. Mendez is very skilled and takes pride in his work. 4. They arrived on time each day (the tile was completed on the first day, they came back another day to grout, and returned on the third day to seal the grout). The job was finished more quickly than I thought. In summary, they were just great to work with and they did a fantastic job, I am very happy. I definitely recommend Mr. Mendez.

He was really great. He was unbelievably good and people still marvel at the work he did. The price was very reasonable and very fair. He was just great. He was an unbelievably good guy. I would absolutely use him again.

Jose responded quickly and provided an estimate to my email. We quickly made the appointment and we're ready to go. His price to grout around the kitchen sink and seal the granite counter tops I thought was a bit high so I excluded that from the total estimate. I was out of town when the work was being done and had a friend be at my home during the job. He called and said he would be 2 hours late the first day which was disappointing but had the job finished in 2 days. I wasn't there so I don't know what preparations were made during the work. When I came home I did notice there was a lot of and quot;tile dustand quot; on most everything in the bedroom, closet and bath/dressing rooms. All in all the work was fine. I would recommend Jose and his work to anyone.

Juan measured the project and stated he would meet me on Friday with tile samples, to finalize the estimate. Didn't show up. Called him, didn't answer his phone. Emailed, no response. Tried the whole routine the following week, same response....nothing. This bozo wasted a couple of day of my time. I would NOT waste my time with this guy.

I use him quite a bit and wouldn't use him if I didn't feel he did a good job. He's reputable, so if he says he's going to be there he'll be there, and if he says that's what the price is that's what the price is as long as you don't change things on him.

Jose Mendez showed up promptly for all our appointments. He did the work within the time frame he gave me. His work was well done. I would use him again and I can recommend him without hesitation to others.

Jose did a really wonderful job! I am more than pleased with the finished work...it's like I have two new bathrooms and I didn't have to spend a lot of money because Jose was so honest and fair with his pricing of the job. He was very professional and did all the worrk specified in the contract and a little more! (he cleaned, sanded and varnished the cabinet in one bathroom that I decided to keep, changed the rusted hinges on one bathroom door) and because of this, I felt it only fair to give him a nice Christmas bonus. Yes, I would definitely recommend his services to my relatives and friends and everybody else.

Jose did a great job installing the tile backsplash in our kitchen. Over two days, the tile was installed and then the grout was put in. We provided the tile, he did all the rest.

Good response to my phone call. Gave me an estimate. Started job and noticed my new counter tops not level. He stopped the job and brought it to my attention. The tile would have been cut on angle and would have looked bad. Counter top was off by over an inch end to end. Called back my original contractor to level counter top which he did. Glad he stopped the job and didn't just proceed. He came back after a couple of days and it looks great. Completely reasonable price for the labor and good quality work.
