Description of Work: I recently purchased a home with loads of plumbing problems. Tony came out during escrow to see the issues, and gave me an estimate. I scheduled Tony's Plumbing to start work the day escrow closed. Their crew came out and in short order, repaired and replaced every plumbing and gas issue in the house. They fixed the problems in four bathrooms. They installed a new kitchen faucet, and replaced a leaky dishwasher hose. They changed out the 50 year old leaky pipes that went to the washing machine, with new, recessed plumbing. They took out the old cast iron pipes and replaced them with ABS. They hydro-jetted the clean out and removed 100 feet of root blockage. They replaced the water pressure regulator on the main line, and the water heater relief valve. They ran a new gas line for an outdoor bbq. They also replaced old filters on the fridge and removed an unnecessary and corroded water pressure regulator. They found the gas line to the fireplace that had been drywalled over during the 50 year life of the house and prepared it for new gas logs. Essentially, they brought all of the plumbing in the house up to current code.

Both John and Johnny are great guys. Both are patient, complete and clean in their work. SGreat guys, great work, naked out a really clogged sink, adjusted another for better drainage and then spent a good amount of time replacing cheap plastic crap toilet parts with much better quality metal parts. John also noticed the fill hose for the toilet was clogged up and cleaned that out to fill faster after flushing. Area was completely clean when they were done. Nice guys, great work, very fair price, will certainly use again.

They are super friendly and helpful on the phone. They are prompt and courteous, and quick to schedule. The guys who installed the earthquake shut off valve were professional. They gave me a warranty for the installed equipment. They gave me the Angie's List price which was $299, but would have been $350 without the special. I was so pleased and would recommend them, and use them again. Now my gas meter is up to code.

I called Tony's yesterday, and was happily surprised that they could send a tech out as early as today. The service window was from 2-4 p.m., but I received a call asking if the tech (John) could possibly arrive a little earlier. John arrived at 1:00 on the nose, which was a better time for me. He had the flappers installed quickly, and asked if there was anything else he could do. I took him to a bathroom sink that was running slowly, and removed the stopper (a tricky, under the sink maneuver with nuts and bolts because the sink is old). Then he used a tool to remove some gunk from the drain, and it is now draining perfectly. (He didn't even charge me for this.) John was very courteous and pleasant to work with. I will definitely use Tony's plumbing in the future, and will also recommend the business to friends. We are doing a 2 bath remodel in the near future, and I will be calling them for a quote when the time comes.

Not so good: - Jetter needed service, so job was interrupted for several days. Couldn't use water in the kitchen. Had to follow up several times to schedule follow-up appointment to actually get the pipe jetted. - Did not accept Angie's List coupon for '10% on all jobs over $100'. Reason: "Part of the invoice contained custom work" ($475 for cutting stucco and pipe, and rebuilding pipe with PVC). The coupon didn't exclude custom work, but even if that's right, why would it exclude 10% off on the $399 standard charge for jetting and $95 standard charge for snaking the sink? Bad: The pipe that Tony's Plumbing snaked and jetted for a few hours over the course of a few days runs from the kitchen on the second floor down inside a wall between two rooms on the first floor into the house foundation (concrete slab). About three weeks after Tony's Plumbing snaked and jetted the pipe, I noticed that my walls and wooden floors started to warp and that mold started to grow in the walls and floors. I called Tony's plumbing and they came out to look at the damage. They said it's not their problem. Their excuse: The pipe was already broken and the grease that was inside the pipe sealed the leak that existed before they started their work. When they jetted the pipe, they cleared the part of the pipe that supposedly clogged the leak, which in turn caused the water damage. They also said the pipe is old and that it's common for old pipes to fail. If that's the case, they should have told me that the pipes are old and can potentially fail before working the pipe with an 80' steel snake and a high pressure water jet for a few hours. Two weeks later, someone from Tony's Plumbing's office called and left a voicemail asking if we need any help with the broken pipe. I did not call back (and won't). I had to have an emergency crew come out to rip out flooring, walls, and ceiling to stop the damage and dry out my first floor and to remove the mold. My new plumber, who fixed the broken pipe mentioned that Tony's plumbing left a few inches of old pipe between the sink and the area they cut. He opened just three more inches of the wall and was able to get rid of the old pipe completely. The insurance concluded that it's not possible to know for certain that Tony's Plumbing caused the issue. In the end, I ended up with the bill for the repair.
Description of Work: Kitchen sink was running slow for months. Called Tony's Plumbing to get it fixed. Two guys came to clean out the drain with a snake from under the sink. Snake came out of the roof (went up the wrong way), so Tony's Plumbing opened up the wall on the outside of the house, cut the pipe, and snaked the pipe several times with an 80' snake over the course of a few hours. Found lots of grease in the pipe and recommended jetting. Jetting solved the problem. Tony's Plumbing fixed the cut pipe (cast iron) with PVC. After that, the sink was draining fine.

We received a call on April 30th from your husband and scheduled appointment for May 1st. Our technicians met with your husband on May 1st. He informed the technicians that the kitchen drain line was slow. The technicians tried to snake the kitchen drain line thru the 1-1/2” wye off the kitchen sink trap arm, but the snake kept going the wrong way (up the vent). They informed your husband that in order to get the drain cleared we would need to cut the stucco open, remove current fittings and install a proper 2”x1-1/2”x1-1/2” ABS sanitary tee and a 2” ABS test tee for a clean-out. We scheduled for the work to be performed the next day because it was after 5:00 when we got there (No overtime charges were charged). Your husband was quoted an amount for the work that needed to be done and told that it included your Angie’s List discount. On May 2nd our technicians again met with your husband. When the stucco was cut open, the technicians found that the existing fitting was a test tee and not a sanitary tee – which is the wrong fitting because it does not have the bend necessary to direct the flow/cable the proper way. Once the new clean-out was installed, the technicians used a standard snake with a ½”x 80 foot cable and snaked the drain 3-4 times trying to clear the line. Each time our technicians pulled excessive amounts of grease/sludge from the line, but were still unable to clear the drain. Our technicians recommended hydro-jetting the drain line to clear the grease/sludge. Again, your husband was given a quote for the hydro-jetting that again included your Angie’s List discount (our regular price for the jetter is $450, you paid $399). The reason that we didn’t open the stucco more and replace more of the existing pipe was that replacing the drain line was not the reason we were opening the stucco to begin with. We only opened the stucco enough to replace the sanitary tee and install a clean-out. We weren’t on a fishing expedition to try to sell you more work. We scheduled to do the Hydro-jetting on 5/8/14 as your husband said that there was not a rush to get the jetting done as he would be out of town. We tried to hydro-jet the line, but had mechanical difficulties so we rescheduled the job for the next day. On May 9th our technicians again met with your husband, ran the jetter through the new clean-out at 2,000 p.s.i. and cleared the line. There were 3 technicians on the job on this day (1 tech was operating the mechanics of the jetter, 1 tech was jetting, and 1 tech was downstairs checking the downstairs plumbing to make sure that there was no flooding or issues with the drains while the hydro-jetting was being performed). The technician downstairs noticed that the laundry sink drain was bubbling and spitting up debris from the drain while the hydro-jetting of the kitchen line was being performed. The washing machine and laundry sink drain lines are both located downstairs on the opposite side of the house which is a completely different drain line than the one we were there to hydro-jet. Our technicians also hydro-jetted the washing machine/laundry sink drain approx. 40 feet to the mainline at no additional charge. Over 250 gallons of water were used to hydro-jet the kitchen sink drain line and no water leaks were visible. Upon completion of the work an invoice was given to your husband and he asked for the 10% Angie’s List discount – the technician reminded him that the discount had already been applied to each price. He paid the invoice and our technicians left. On June 16th (over a month later) we received a call from your husband stating that the downstairs flooring was starting to buckle and there appeared to be water damage on the ceiling/walls. We setup an appointment for the next morning to check out the possible cause. Upon arrival, our technicians met with you and found that a water restoration company had already been on-site and had marked the walls/ceiling with blue tape where the moisture was located. Our technician wanted to open the wall to investigate the cause of the water damage, but you declined to have him open it to investigate. You stated that you wanted to wait for the water restoration company to test for asbestos before cutting into the walls. You said that you would call us after they had done the test. When our technician asked to cut open the wall, he explained that it was the only way to find out what the cause of the moisture was. We never said it wasn’t our problem, as there would be no way to know what the cause was without opening the wall. Our technician gave you possible reasons why there could be moisture in the wall including; possible broken pipe or corroded threads. He also explained that although it isn’t common, it is possible that the buildup in your pipe that was hydro-jetted out was acting as a seal for an existing crack or weakness in the pipe structure. There is a higher probability with clay pipe, than there is with cast iron/galvanized drain pipe for this to happen. In your case you have cast iron/galvanized pipe inside your house. After not hearing from you for a week, our office called and left a message on June 25th asking what the status of the asbestos report was and what we needed to do to follow up – no one ever called us back. The review you posted is the first we have heard from you since June 17th. It is only by going through each step one by one… First: Snake drain, Second: Hydro-jet, Third: Open walls and replace the drain if steps 1 & 2 did not work. It is unfortunate and we are sorry that this happened, but in this situation there is no way to know the condition of the pipe inside the wall without opening up the wall, and when we left the drain was functioning properly and there was no sign of water leaking anywhere so there was no reason to open the walls. We are sorry that you ended up with the bill for the repair of the water leak, but insinuating that we did something wrong but you are just unable to prove it is insulting. You did not give us the opportunity to investigate the cause of the leak or communicate with us at all.

I had them out 3 times for different things. Had sand and dirt in plumbing. Cleaned all the shower heads. a Dishwasher hose needed replacement. Dishwasher would not drain. First they adjusted the water valve in the shower, it lasted for a month (was not getting hot water). I called them out again and the replaced the valve and it did the trick. Works great now. So does the dishwasher. I will have the back for any plumbing problems I have and would refer them to anyone. They are honest and reliable. The prices have been OK also.
