Honey Do Handyman has been a well respected handyman in the Los Angeles area since its inception. Specializing in handyman, painting and drywall. I believe in honesty, open communication, reliability, customer service, timeliness and managing every project I undertake in a cost effective way so that I can complete every job on time and on budget. I provide handyman services in both the public and private sectors in the Los Angeles area, and I handle everything from simple home improvement projects to commercial remodeling. My biggest asset is my dedicated, hardworking, safety conscious subcontractors. Anyone that walks on any of my work sites exhibits the height of professionalism at all times. I may not be the most well known handyman in Los Angeles or the most expensive handyman in the Los Angeles area, but I am simply the most honest, most customer oriented handyman you will find anywhere. If you have any type of construction project, I'll consult with you, find your unique needs, and see if I can devise a solution to fit your desires and your budget.
Everything went wonderfully. He was very accommodating and he worked quickly and efficiently. There were no mistakes. He did a perfect job with what we asked him to do. We even asked him to fix a window and when he wasn't able to, because we needed to order more expensive parts, he gave us a price range and offered to do it once we bought the parts. The house is now looking spic and span because of him and no more creaky doors! I would recommend him to anyone who needs some work done around the house.
Description of Work: Stephen did everything for us! He realigned two doors and replaced our air vent crate. He also put the trim back on our porch door and fixed the deadbolt because it wasn't working.

Eddie met me up at Home Depot to help transport the materials. He knew ahead of time what the project would entail and got straight to work. He finished the job in about 5 hours, and even came back the next day because I was missing a non-critical part, but he thought it would be good to install it. Overall, great professionalism and excellent customer service.

He's in between. As far as he was concerned, he wasn't great. He struggled with that a little bit. He used the saw that went to the other side of the wall. It came out to another room. I came and patched the hole myself.

I was told that I'd be contacted by this provider w/in 2-3 days and I never heard from them. I contacted them and was told that what I had asked for really wasn't their specialty, but that they had someone that could perform the work and that person would contact me. That person never made contact either and I subsequently contacted Angie's List and asked for a refund (which they processed promptly).

It went very well and with the extra time left over asked if there was anything else he could help out with instead of just leaving.
Description of Work: We were having issues with bugs getting into the kitchen and had tried to seal up every crack possible, but it wasn't good enough so he came in and did a thorough job including rebuilding the back of a cabinet.

We paid $190. for 4 hrs of handyman service. Handyman arrived on time and was very friendly and pleasant throughout the day. I feel bad giving a poor review, but feel I need to be honest. First he told me that the custom door was constructed wrong and would not swing the way I desired. After a bit of time, I figured out that he was incorrect. He installed the door and did a good job with that. He had a helper who installed the cat doo and did a good job with that. The trim is another story. i bought a size that didn't match the existing material. Instead of telling me, he installed it and then tried to fill in the 1/4 inch of height difference with caulk. It looks bad. On the other short spans of wall, he didnt need to match up anything existing, just cutand install. He used a dark pink caulk even though I provided white and it is smeared up our freshly painted wall. I had asked for our front door to be planed as it sticks and is very difficult to open. All he did was to remove all of the weather stripping and then he left. The door still sticks just like it always did. He also told me that he brought his assistant because otherwise the 3 jobs that were completed would have taken him "all day". So I had to pay for 4 hrs of a second person and 45 minutes of overtime for both of them. I now need to remove and replace a strip on base trim , repaint an area of wall, replace the weather stripping on my door and get someone else to plane it. They were very nice, but we are not happy with some of the work and the $190. job cost us $345.
Description of Work: Installed one pre-hung interior door. Installed one cat door from garage into room. Cut and installed 5 short pieces of wall trim and baseshoe.

Steve's associate Ron was a little late, but Steve called to let us know, and such is life in LA. Ron was friendly and knowledgable. He worked rapidly and only made one trip for supplies. We had a one price deal for a day's work and were able to add a number of tasks to the list because Ron was so adept at everything and worked quickly and efficiently. We were very satisfied with the work and the overall experience, and would recommend this business to others in need of a handyman.

Painted a patch of wall after electrical work done by a different provider.
Description of Work: I planned to replace three faucets and a flushing mechanism. None of those were able to be done due to existing copper pipes according to the person sent for the job. It took four hours for him to reach that conclusion. He confirmed he does not do that type of work or the right tools and his boss does but sends people regularly to jobs they aren't ready for or the boss had confirmed they could actually do or were appropriate requests.

Ron was terrific. I'd hire him again in a heartbeat. He works fast, but gets each task right. He fixed a stuck window that a previous workman had been unable to repair. I thought I was going to have to replace the window. Ron goes far above and beyond expectations to leave the homeowner happy. This Angie's Deal was $190 well spent.
Description of Work: Carried upstairs an air cleaner and a heavy portable A/C unit and Installed the A/C's window vent. Moved heavy platform bed to accommodate placement of A/C unit, which involved disassembling and reassembling the bed. Fixed a stuck window to install window vent. Stephen made sure to show up and did a great job. He took out our old existing closets that we had our and installed a complicated pre made closet system we had ordered. It ended up being too low the first time we tried and when I called to tell him my problem with the closet, he came right back and finished the job exactly as I wanted it. Looks great and everything hangs as it should (my long dresses not hitting the floor with enough space for shoes ) :) he is honest and hardworking. Would recommend honey for necessary handy work!

Steve was great. He responded within a few hours of my message. Originally he had someone else assigned to my condo, but the guy called in sick the morning of the appointment, so Steve called me to explain what happened and offered to do the repairs himself but a few hours later. Steve showed up on time. He's friendly, outgoing, and good at what he does. He explains what he plans on doing. I had bought the Angie's List deal for 4 hours at $190 and had another appointment lined up right after, so I was worried he wouldn't be able to get to it all but he did. Would definitely hire him again.

Steve showed up on time and addressed a number of problems with my IKEA Pax cabinet. I had made a number of prior attempts to fix the issues myself, even going so far as having friends of mine help me with the repairs, but ultimately gave up. Steve was efficient and had a positive attitude throughout the job, seeing it through to its successful completion. I wasn't sure if anyone was going to be able to help me, given the poor condition of the cabinet, and the only other option would have been replacing it. Bearing that in mind, I can safely say Steve saved me over $1,000. I couldn't be happier with the results of Steve's work. I recommend Honey-Do Handyman to anybody with repair work too daunting to handle alone.
Description of Work: Fixed oversized IKEA Pax cabinet w/ heavy sliding doors
Perfect! I've used Steve's Honey-Do Handyman services three times and plan to hire him for all of my handyman work in the future. I've been a homeowner for 14 years and have gone through several other handymen, but no one has been as fast, reliable, as skilled as Steve. He an fix anything and I highly recommend him!

Sloppy work. Sloppy work ethic. Mr. Boykin arrived on time at 8AM and was pleasant and polite. He did not begin "work" until 8:45AM. During the first 45 minutes, he took phone calls (which he continued to do frequently throughout the day while I paid him to work at my house) and talked me into hiring a helper so the work could be finished in one day. I provided $50 per gallon paint, blue tape, paint brushes. He began painting the bay window at apx 8:45 AM. I left for an errand at 9:30AM and came back at 1:30PM. Mr. Boykin was sitting in the truck and the helper was painting the eaves. I asked him how long it took him to paint the bay window and he said, "one hour." You do the math. He did not use the blue tape on the bay window he painted and it was a mess. He reassured me that he would clean it up. He did, but he did not remove extra putty on the glass, but painted it too. The result is a window that looks as if it were painted by Tom Sawyer. I paid alot of money to have that window custom made and installed. I am quite angry at the result of Mr. Boykin's painting. I feel he ruined the new window. I would post pictures if it were possible and I knew how to do it. The helper left soon after I came back home. As I walked around my home, I discovered that the helper had missed painting many places on the eaves. One place was my fault as I left a security door locked. One other place had a large camellia in front. Mr. Boykin did not appear motivated to find a solution for that until he noticed I was becoming frustrated. I should not need to closely supervise this simple work. Mr. Boykin continued to be pleasant, but did not appear particularly motivated to get any work done. I was becoming increasingly frustrated with his dawdling. I watched as he dripped brown paint down a yellow wall and then rubbed at it ineffectively with a cloth, leaving a large, dark stained area. I would post pictures if it were possible and I knew how to do it. As I re-read the other reviews, I notice that Mr. Boykin frequently uses "helpers." I am wondering/suspecting that the helpers actually do the work that people found acceptable. I also noted that many of the reviews stated that he took longer than anticipated to complete projects. Noticing what was happening at my home, I feel that taking longer may be part of his plan. He stayed about one hour later than planned at my home finishing the work, but I believe it was because he knew I was upset and he knew I got his name from Angie's List. It wouldn't have been necessary, if he had actually worked earlier in the day instead of sitting in the truck and talking on the phone. I find it difficult to imagine Mr. Boykin with "it" in gear. Before I became disabled, I did alot of house painting. I completely painted my own house, inside and out, twice. I know what is involved in doing a good job and how long it takes.

I hired him and worked closely with him and he negotiated with me on the price. He was in a little bit over his head, but I had all the tools that he needed and we sort of worked together. He did the stuff I wasn't going to do and so it worked out pretty good. I am pretty happy with the end results. He has to work multiple jobs. He had to work the next job while he was working my job, but that's just the nature of the beast for a freelance handyman guy. And think I definitely got my value from him. He did a lot of different stuff. After the plumbers were here we had a lot of patch work to do and we did patch and paint and he pretty much got through my whole list. I ended up getting three competitive bids and his was very reasonable and I could communicate with him and we ended up working well together. I think he underbid the project, but we negotiated a fair price, so his bid was a come-on bid, but most of them are, because they have no clue what they really are going to get into. So I ended up doubling his price. He ended up working pretty well. I actually would use him again depending on the work to be done. He didn't back down from anything. Some of these jobs were really tough. He would bring in subs. He brought in one sub that I wouldn't hire again, but he was just trying him out. He had a great painter. He had a good other helper from Florida and the three of them worked out pretty good. I would say he is a work in progress, but I would definitely use him again.

My doggie door was hanging with duct tape. It was time for a new one. Steve picked up the doors up for me as I had no way to do so. He installed both doors and also painted them. I bought the paint, doors, knobs and hinges. It took about 7 hrs. A part was missing, so he went and bought it to complete the job. He included the price of the part purchased with his labor. I felt it was a good price. I am pleased with the job and me and my dog are enjoying the new doors.
Description of Work: Over the years our dogs have done a job on the doggie door in the back door. I decided it was time to replace the back door with a new doggie door. Steve was very responsive to my calls.
Steve and his worker Ron were unreliable, sloppy, unprofessional. This saga started on Sept 8th and ended Sept 23rd. As a customer I should not be a part of him being"too busy" or it's hard to find good help. It took 3 people to finish a very simple job. I would not recommend this service.

I am sorry to hear that (Member name removed)wasn't happy with our work. I find her review a bit exaggerated. While some mistakes we're made on this job, I personally went to her house and made sure that the work was done professionally. I know that we had failed to put a cover on a counter-top in a bathroom we had painted and while painting we we're quite careful to do a good job and paint the room as she had requested. We did have drop cloths on the floor, etc. We also did a thorough cleanup of the room when we completed and even wiped the counter down. Upon completion I walked through the room with her roommate and she was pleased and paid me in full. I did get a phone call from her room mate about an hour later and she was upset about some paint drips that she had found on the bathroom counter and I offered to come back and help clean it up, which I would have gladly done, but she said NO, don't come back. Again, every effort was made to do a good job for them and I do believe her Grade is harsh, but she has a right to give her opinion. I invite you to take a look at the many other positive reviews I have on Angie's list, which are by far in the Majority Positive.

Honey-Do Handyman was punctual and knew on the spot what needed to be done. He also cleaned up after he finished the repair. I was very pleased that I found a very reliable and hard working handyman that I know I'm getting quality workmanship.
Description of Work: Called Honey-Do Handyman got an estimate for work needed at home and Stephen was fair with his pricing . We picked a day for the handyman to come out and do the work and he saw my back door needed some serious attention. My back door was hanging from hinges and wouldn't close so Stephen started working on it right away and in just 30 minutes I had a working closing door.

It was very cost effective. It was really good service and he was very responsive.
Description of Work: It's an old, small exterior side door (access to laundry room) that is located on the right side of my house, (approx 5 x 3 ft) and it's fallen off the hinges -- it either needs to be repaired or replaced (tried to repair myself but with no success).
