... , We had a kitchen upgrade including new counters, floor, painting, plus installation of new sink, garbage disposer, cook-top, & range hood. Work was begun 3 weeks later than promised & the project manager, who assured he'd be here to supervise, was out of the country the whole time that the work was in progress. During that time, the counter top had to be re-done, since it wasn't right the first time, plus debris from the demolition plugged the drain & we had to call in a private plumber. The electric cook-top was the last item to be installed, & we wound up ordering 3 different ones, as they said the first 2 were defective. Finally, on the 3rd one, they sent an electrician, & he discovered that the problem was in the electrical system of the house. The whole process took 3 months, during which time I had only a microwave with which to cook. This is without putting in new cabinets! We signed the contract on 9/10/14 & work finished on 12/31/14.

Dear member, we signed the contract as you said in Sep but actual work started only in Oct 1. since we were waiting for you to have all appliances & fixture and your counter top material selection. the 2 first times you purchased the stove from SEARS the stoves came defective both times. even Sears technician diagnosed that when came to your house to check it on the 2nd time. because it was defective he did not charge for his service / trip. we felt really bad you purchased defective stoves that you needed to replace & needed to wait for each of them to arrive for 2 -3 week. but we are not the one to blame. we did everything we could to help you. every time you called to let us know you new stove arrived and we need to come & install, we were there the next morning. we never charged you for our time or labor, even though the stoves were defective per Sears. we truly think your review is very not appreciative for everything we did for you on this project. we hope you will reconsider and edit your review to be a little nicer Thank you very much for your business.

I was extremely happy with the work Horizon Construction did on my kitchen remodel. I had the entire kitchen remodeled including the tile floor, granite counter top, new cabinets, new door, paint, installation of new appliances, etc. The construction crew was punctual, polite and very helpful. All my questions were answered quickly and accurately. The work was completed on schedule and the result was exactly as I had wanted. Thank you Horizon Construction.

That was the last of what Horizon Construction & Remodeling did. From that point on, all I received from Enna (their office "point person") was excuses and delays in submitting the proposal. I met with two other contractors in early December and they both submitted proposals on time, despite the fact that it was the holiday season. As of January 12, Horizon had not submitted a proposal and asked for 2-3 weeks more. I was astonished at their moxie for making this outlandish request when they knew I wanted the proposal in December. Their excuse was that they were closed for two weeks in December and were busy catching up. I have serious doubts about this company's ability to deliver anything on time. I would not recommend them and would never use them.
Description of Work: I am the liaison for our Homeowner's Association in Laguna Niguel and in charge of our pool area. We are contemplating a large renovation project of the entire pool facility and I contacted Horizon Construction & Remodeling in Orange to inspect the area and submit a proposal. I met with Omri on December 4 for about an hour and fifteen minutes to discuss the project in detail and point out what needed to be done. I told him I required a proposal within two weeks to present to our board in January and he agreed to this.

Dear member, Our specialty is Residential renovation NOT commercial. We informed you that since your association pool project is a commercial one, it will require longer time for us to go over all the details and present a detailed bid as you mentioning your Board requires. Commercial projects are not something we do on a regular bases. when you called to schedule a meeting you insist meeting with us. we understood we have a mutual understanding about the time it will take us to prepare a bid on a job we are not specialize in. we apologize for any inconvenience. perhaps you teach us a very important lesson: No matter how much the client insist meeting with us because of our fabulous reputation, we MUST REFUSE! anyway he will be unhappy and will try to ruin this reputation of ours by uploading reviews....

He started on Oct. 6th & finished on Nov 25th. When he quoted the price of $62,500 it did not include the draftsman, or the city permits, or the moving of the electrical panel because SCE said the window was too close to the existing panel. So we had to pay $3,900 to move the panel on the side of the house. The whole time from beginning to end was nothing but dust & dirt from the tear down of the old kitchen, Floor, walls & ceiling etc. made a mess in our living room & in Oh yes, We needed an area for our appliances to go and an area to use the microwave. The Den. The 7 weeks seem to go by slow, Each segment waiting for the city inspector to check there work before proceeding. I did take pics of it to show that the work was done in case any problems in the future occur. Once the inspector passed it the Hole was finally filled and the concrete floor was poured & foundation for the new walls also. The original size of the kitchen was 7' X 10' with a converted washroom of 5'X5'. So they knocked out the wall separating the 2 and installed a header beam. Framed the new walls & removed 4 kitchen windows. Thank God the finished the new roof over the kitchen before the first rain we had, No leaks. They installed new wiring for the whole kitchen, Lights, outlets and hook ups for our newly purchased front loading washer & Dryer which are now in the kitchen. My wife is retired so I was always at work and when I got home she gave me good news each day. Once the drywall was done & painted the kitchen finally took shape. Kitchen now does look great They do have a 1 year service Warranty on the whole kitchen remodel in case there are any problems.
Description of Work: We did a Kitchen expansion & added 20 SQ FT + removing a wall. Adding a garden window, a skylight, new Granite counter, Freestanding Range Hood, Cabinets using our appliances except a new Dishwasher. Also installed a new electrical Panel.

They were hired to re-tile the shower and around the sink, and build a cabinet for the sink and a medicine cabinet, and they were to paint. I wanted browns and tans in the tile, and what they installed had grey and tan in it. Then they had to come back out and remove a chrome strip that ended up rusting and then put in other tile that had the tans and browns that I originally wanted. I am very unhappy with the entire job. They did not paint right, they did not caulk correctly and then tried to tell me that I would have to pay to fix it.

Dear member, First of all, i wanted to say that: your shower is beautiful! we will appreciate a little more appreciation from you. Please remember, We are NOT installing any tile without the client selecting it first and sign on it. this is not something we selected for you. you selected this tile and signed your name on the back of a sample pc. we have it in our office, if anyone want to see it... After installing the tile on the wall, unfortunately you did not really liked the color of it. during the installation, we had the conversation, about stopping the installation of the tile & selecting a new tile color, but you did not want to do it... Like you said: " they came back to replace a rusting metal" we came to replace the rusting metal in the tile, without charging you anything. we paid for this service, we bought new metal pc of tile as well. Please remember, this is a product defect, the metal started to rust. we did not make this metal, you purchased it in the first place. we simply wanted to try and make you happy, this is why we did not say anything, you called and told us that one of the tile metal is rusted, we went and purchased a new one & replaced it for you. you called us again last week saying that your shower is backing up, we right away send a plumber that cleaned the drain and simply pulled SO MANY hair from there!!! Looks like, you always trying to blame us on everything that happens, at your house, it just not working this way. you can't do that. we don't believe that any other contractor ever made you satisfied, you were always complying about the other contractor that remodeled your other bathroom, and the other one that remodeled your kitchen... probably one of those clients....

It went unbelievably smooth. Omer the project manager and designer, was extremely helpful. I felt like I was his only priority. He made the hardest stage of my project so easy. I have actually gained a friend from the process that we went through and him making it so enjoyable. There was not a single struggle even in the inevitable unforeseen obstacles. He made them dissolve.
Description of Work: Provided me with excellent design, service, plot plans, and the handling of those plans with the planning and building departments of the city. Helped with the beginning stages of an entire excavation and construction for a second living unit on my property.

I am compelled to write a review only because I see that there is another F on here for basically the same reasons I have. I was told on the phone that my husband needed to be with me at home for the estimate. I told Enna that i would be the one managing the remodel but she was so persistent that he be present that it became a heated conversation. I should've cancelled our appointment then, but I went thru with the estimate. Mark arrived and was very rude. Didn't introduce himself, didn't extend a hand to shake....the list goes on. Luckily we both agreed we aren't a good fit to work together. I feel like there is something very dishonest going on. And these two definitely don't seem to respect women.

Dear member, we respect our clients and their time. we pay full attention to their requests and needs, we provide professional consultation based on many years of experience. we never charge for our consultation, our time and the knowledge we share. the only one thing we ask in return from our clients, is for the wife and husband or any other person involved to be present during consultation - this is how we feel clients respect our time as well. when we spoke on the phone, you were supper sweet saying you have a baby and your husband is working long hours, until 8 pm or so... Usually, i will simply stick to our policy, but for some reason i made this exception with you and went ahead and scheduled the meeting only with you without the husband. I am a proud woman! and i don't appreciate those racist comments about us NOT respecting women!!! during the years, we had so many women clients that absolutely love us, you need to read the Job performed reviews and understand that our request to have you both or anyone involved in this project is not about woman or men. When we are receiving phone calls from husbands saying: " I'm the one paying " OR "my wife has nothing to do with remodeling projects" etc'... we are asking the same thing: to find a good time to meet both of you!!! Regarding, your comments about the representative you met, it was funny that when he came back to the office his notes said: many questions couldn't be answered: client answered: my husband will know that... Anyway, we apologize you did not like this one thing about us. Good luck finding a contractor, you will like all about him!

Enna Eskin was who I spoke to I started looking for someone toremodel my kitchen while on the phone with Enna to schedule an appointment I was VERY insulted I had let her know that my husband may be doing some of the work (demo and some minor repairs to paint after demo) when I asked to schedule a time for someone to come out she told me that I needed to have my husband present I asked why the home is in my name and not his. Her response was that he needed to let them know what he was going to do and not do which I responded to I know what he will and will not do. I will NOT use this company she then insulted me when I became defensive about my husband not being present at the meeting. I WILL NOT USE THIS COMPANY and I will not recommend them.

You told me on the phone that you interviewed MANY contractors, and you are looking for few month now, maybe it is something to do with this attitude ... Where they sealed off the stairwell it looks like it has been there forever - you can not tell that this area was remodeled which was the goal. When the completed the range installation I was initially disappointed that they did not put anything to replace the 1 foot of counter top that needed something to cover it. We had discussed putting a butcher block there, but this was not written into the contract - even so, I expected the job to be completed. Omer resisted at first, but gave me a $50 discount off of the contract price. When the owner Enna called me to follow up, I told her I was happy with the work that was done, but thought they should have included the butcher block. After this talk, Omer went to a lot of trouble to get me a butcher block and deliver it to me - to do this he had to drive 50 miles one way. I am very happy now with all aspects of the job Horizon Construction and Remodeling did for me. I would definitely work with them again.
Description of Work: Sealed off stairway to make a separate rental unit and installed a gas range in bar area to make it into a kitchen. Installing the gas range included cutting existing marble counter tops and re-building 1 foot of cabinets to match the original cabinets. They were able to cut the marble without damaging the remaining marble and the re-built cabinet matches perfectly.

Horizon remodeled my kitchen and two bathrooms about a year ago. I wrote a review for them at that time but wanted to write a follow-up piece. As in any major remodeling, not everything gets done 100% right the first time. In fact, I can't think of any instance where this isn't the case. What is important is how well the contractor comes back and fixes those problems. Even though some of our issues were not discovered until a year of use had passed, Horizon was very prompt and efficient about resolving the problem. Mark cheerfully addressed our concerns and fixed what was needed to be done in a timely manner. We are grateful to both Mark and Enna for their service, honesty, and integrity. We love our home and have Horizon to thank for it.

Working with Mark and Enna from Horizon Construction and Remodeling was a great experience. They were professional, punctual, precise, and communicative. Each day work was performed, their workers made sure to leave as little impact or disturbance in the area. The work done is of high quality - they were able to transform our bathroom out of the 1960s into something modern, clean, and functional. We were in constant communication via text/phone/email. They were very patient when we were picking out our cabinet colors - leaving us samples to ensure that we got the exact color and style we wanted. And of the three contractors we bid the job out to, there price was very reasonable. I appreciated the personal touch they add to their service - always making sure that we were satisfied with each step of the process. We will definitely be calling Mark and Enna again when it comes time to get our kitchen out of the 60s.

The original person I spoke with and who gave me the written bid was Omri, a delightful young man with some great ideas that were eventually incorporated into my plans. He was quite responsive and his suggestions helped a lot. All others from the office - Mark, Enna, Anna, and Eli - were exceptionally nice and quite helpful and professional throughout the remodel. Enna was my primary contact, but I spoke with Anna frequently as well. Both were courteous and assisted me many times when I became overly concerned about specific details. The original contract was signed on June 1 and actual demo began about June 10. There were some delays - the tub had to be returned as it had a crack in it and it took an additional week to have a new one delivered; an electrical switch was put in the wrong area and the City Building Inspector insisted it be corrected; and I had some additional change orders that added to the work time. All work was completed October 22, 2014. The original contract was for $28,250; however, additions that I made as the project continued plus the cost of the tile that I purchased through Horizon, pushed the total to just over $40,000. (In addition, I provided things like the sinks, toilets, mirrors, lights, etc.) I had received three written bids from Angie's List providers and Horizon was the middle bid - not the highest or the lowest. Overall, I am satisfied with the work performed. The bathrooms look quite nice. The problems that I encountered were with the different subcontractors who did the work. The primary problem was communication. All of the workers who came to my house spoke Spanish as their primary language. Unfortunately, I do not speak Spanish. Many of them spoke little English as I came to realize when I tried to talk with them. Let me make clear that all of the workers were very nice and I felt comfortable with them in my home; however, I did not feel that the quality of the work they produced was exceptional. Although corrections were made, it became tedious at times as I felt I had to be overly involved in overseeing the work. I would have appreciated a more involved English-speaking Horizon employee to check on the job on a daily basis to help interpret my concerns and see the actual work rather than relying on pictures texted back to the office. I may be wrong saying that all workers were subcontracted. Some may work directly for Horizon, but the communication problem still existed and was frustrating. Another concern, and this could also be communication errors, was punctuality. There were many days when I was told the workers would be there in the morning yet they didn't arrive until well after noon or did not arrive at all. I am retired, so I was available, but wasted many hours waiting for workers for several hours. Of course, a few times the opposite happened and they arrived by 7:30 a.m., although I expected them later. Since these were contracted workers, it seemed difficult at times for Horizon to have control. It was difficult to decide on the ratings shown above. I would definitely give superior ratings to the actual Horizon employees as compared with the subcontractors used.
Description of Work: Complete gut and remodel of two bathrooms. One bathroom had tub removed and shower expanded to walk-in shower with frameless shower doors. New cabinets, sinks, floor, lighting, mirrors, tub in master bath, toilets, three windows in master bath, extensive tile work in walk-in shower in guest bath and around tub and floor in master bath.

This is the kitchen my wife has been waiting for since we bought our house 16 years ago. She loves the final product! To be honest, we were not planning on spending this much on our kitchen remodel; however, we chose Horizon based on over 100 reviews and our experiences with other contractors in the past. So, based on the reviews, we knew we were going to spend more money than the average kitchen remodel. Having dealt with several projects over the years, I also was aware we were going to go over budget along with having some challenges along the way. We did have a couple of issues that looked like they were going to go sideways, but Horizon listened to and took care of those issues to the best of their ability each time--and, to good effect. I spent the most time communicating with Enna--almost always over the phone or by E-mail--and found her easy to work with. I had read reviews that said some things about Enna being difficult to get along with, but I did not find that to be the case. Keep in mind, all of the reviews that had those comments in them did not actually have work done by Horizon. Enna was there to help solve a couple of problems by making certain one of her crew got to our house, by coming to our house herself, or by, for example, crediting us $741 for the ceiling drywall replacement [because I thought we did not need to replace it]. There were several Horizon employees that helped the remodeling experience [often stressful] more tolerable. Horizon arranged to have a Porta-Potty outside our house so the workers would not have to use our bathrooms. They also arranged the appointments with the city for the permit inspections. There were some communication problems at times; however, I soon learned that going straight to Enna was the best way to solve any problems that cropped up. If anyone wonders why I rated Horizon a "B" for price I have a simple answer: their are not the low-end bid--they are likely closer to the higher-end bid. But, you get what you pay for. So, the "B" is to give prospective customers a heads-up that you ought to plan accordingly. That said, we chose an expensive (beautiful) piece of granite, had special space-saving aspects added to our cabinets, glass-tile backsplash, under-counter lighting, travertine tile floor, and more. There were no significant surprises except . . . WE REALLY LOVE OUR NEW KITCHEN! However, I would say that was more of an expectation than a surprise.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel: Demolition, R & R existing drywall ceiling, paint, travertine tile floor, removed false ceiling, new cabinets (51 linear ft.), granite countertops, glass tile backsplash, overhead LED lighting, under cabinet fluorescent lighting, appliance installation, finishing touch ups.

After many interviews and careful consideration I selected Horizon Construction and Remodeling who, in addition, was highly rated by customers on Angie’s list. It proved to be a very good decision! Mr. Ormi Nave was my Project Manager whose expertise guided me through design, style and material selections. The cabinet maker, electrician, plumber, painter/drywall, tile installer were all excellent at their craft! Upper management also reviewed on-site work excellence and progression. The Horizon team maintained a high level of professionalism and integrity throughout the entire project. I highly recommend Horizon for your next project!

We called Horizon for an estimate on the remodeling of a rental property that my husband and I planned to complete and move into as our primary residence. Enna set up an appointment for us right away with Mark. The condo was empty so we could begin construction right away. He spent about 4 hours with us to determine what we wanted to have done and he provided several examples on his ipad. He also was very thorough about what we could and could not do according to code and made sure we had the proper permits. They completed the project in about 3 months time and were very responsive to any changes we requested or fixed anything we were not happy with during the project. They kept us on track with decisions that needed to be made as the project progressed. We are very happy with the quality of the work and appreciate the fact that they will come back to touch up any walls once we are completely moved in and settled. The only negative I had was some of Mark's workers were very loud in the backyard according to some of our neighbors. Once we heard that we advised Horizon and they took care of the situation right away.
Description of Work: Complete interior remodel of 1500 square foot condo including backyard. New electrical, new windows, new floors, new kitchen, 3 remodeled bathrooms, and new surface of backyard patio.

Our guest bathroom was original to our house (built in 1967) and so has been in desperate need of a remodel. After meeting with one of Horizon's project managers (Omri), we felt so comfortable with their knowledge, experience and price that we didn't even seek out estimates from other companies (Horizon's glowing Angie's List reviews certainly helped us make that decision). All in all, we are very glad that we chose to use Horizon for this project. The project was completed in a timely manner, their workers were very polite and cleaned up after themselves at the end of each day, and the work itself looks great. They had a very high attention to detail and treated the project as if it was their own bathroom remodel.

We were looking for contractor to remove a plaster wall and replace with drywall. We attempted to contact but our messages were not responded to, I guess type of work was too small for this contractor. If thats the case, then its a good thing that we didn't connect to close deal because i wouldn't want contractor whose only priority is how much money is made in a job. Estimated Price : $1500.00

Dear member, WE BELIEVE YOU ARE MISTAKEN, WE TRIED BUT DID NOT FIND YOUR NAME OR ADDRESS IN OUR RECORDS. YOU DID NOT CONTACTED US. IT WAS A DIFFERENT COMPANY. BUT, since we are a general construction company, we are not performing small projects. we are always trying to be fair to our potential clients, and NOT to take business that is not a good fit to our expertise. we believe this is the best approach to our business. we always recommend to hire the right contractor for your project. in this case, your project would be better with a smaller firm that is performing small projects like yours. Good luck!

Horizon Construction and Remodeling completed an exterior face-lift for our home in July-August 2014. They were very professional, organized, and friendly from beginning to end, and we were very pleased with the final results. Mark (the general contractor) and Enna (in the office) make a very attentive team to ensure that everything goes according to plan. Mark came to the house almost every day to supervise the work, and Enna would call or email the day before so that we knew what would be happening. The entire job was done several weeks earlier than expected. I?ve worked with other contractors who would leave us hanging and wondering if they were coming that day or who would not return to the job for weeks at a time while they juggled other jobs. Horizon was very different. They were diligent and determined to complete the job in a timely manner. They also obtained the permits and dealt with the city inspectors. If there was an area of improvement, I would say that some of the workers could have done a better job of covering and protecting the nearby areas during the demolition and the painting. However, at the end of the job, we made a ?punch list? of outstanding tasks or issues, and Horizon addressed everything on the list without question. Even after the job was over, we received at least two calls from Horizon asking us if there was anything else that needed to be done and assuring us that they would be available if any issues arose (which hasn?t happened). One thing I appreciated about Horizon is that they presented a detailed, itemized bid with a timeline, including all materials, and they stuck to their commitment. (Other contractors that I?ve worked with have provided lower bids to get your business but immediately asked to modify the cost of the project due to various add-ons, or else they have provided a bid that didn?t include all the materials, so it was difficult to gauge the total cost. In contrast, Horizon?s bid was very complete and accurate. They were a bit more expensive than other bids, but based upon my other experiences, it was worth it.) I also appreciated the quality of the workmanship with Horizon. You could see that the workers who worked with this contractor were proud to be associated with the company. We would definitely work with Horizon again if we have another job in the future.
Description of Work: Exterior face lift of home, including removal of old lava rock, installation of new stack stone, new stucco, new windows, painting the entire house, new gutters, and some related electrical work.

I contacted Horizon to give me a quote on a job. They responded and informed me that they would not meet with me unless my spouse was also present. I told them I only wanted a quote, but they would not make an appointment unless both "decision makers" were present. All the other contractors I contacted were happy to meet with only me. They all came by and discussed several options for my job, some came by twice. All of them gave me a quote without insisting on meeting my wife. I asked Horizon why they needed my wife present. I insisted it was only a quote and I would not be signing any contracts or financing anything. They gave me some non-sense about wanting us to feel comfortable with them. It sounded too much like a high pressure sales job. I decided I would not let the contractor tell the customer what to do. I hope they stop calling me.

Dear member, we respect our clients and their time. we pay full attention to their requests and needs, we provide professional consultation based on many years of experience. we never charge for our consultation, our time and the knowledge we share. the only one thing we ask in return from our clients, is for the wife and husband to be present during consultation - this is how we feel clients respect our time as well. we are NOT hiding this request of ours, you can see it on our Angie's profile page. we are mentioning that on our first phone consultation when scheduling to meet and when we confirm the meeting few hours before. we apologize you did not like this one thing about us. Good luck finding a contractor, you will like all about him!

This will be the third time I've used Horizon's services and for the third time I'm very satisfied. Fast responded to our request for a quote. Provided nice and affordable design options. Work started on time and moved quickly, without any work breaks. all issues while the work was done were resolved within a day. Mark & Enna are my remodeling team and I will likely use them again on my next project. Eric Aidler

We are grateful that we got a good idea of Horizons unprofessional way of doing business before we entered into a contract with them. Showing up on time, listening, returning phone calls are very important in any business relationship. From what we experienced with Horizon, they do not have even possess those basic qualities of courtesy. We cannot speak to the quality of their construction.
Description of Work: We called Horizon to bid on our maser suite remodel. Omri came to our home, reviewed our design plans and specifications for the project. He told us how great Horizon was and then he disappeared. We never heard from him again even though he said he would get back to us with a price. He didn't return our phone calls. As architects we were taken aback at the unprofessional behavior.

Dear member, we are surprised to read your feedback. after the meeting at your house, we talked on the phone several times with you & with your wife. Omri tried to reach you & left massages, but you did not call him back. As architects, you coming from same industry as ourselves. we are surprised architects will work so hard to find ways and submit reviews on different sites on line to harm our business. you submitted a bad review here on Angie's, your wife did the same on Yelp... it is very uncommon thing for a college to do... maybe this is the reason you as an architect "LOOKINBG FOR A CONTRACTOR" usually architects know contractors, they doing business together on a regular basis... Good luck finding a contractor!
