This is the second project we did with Horizon. Three years ago we had a major kitchen remodel done and we absolutely love it! We liked working with Mark and Enna, the owners, and found their crew to be very professional and well qualified. So we had no qualms about starting another project with them. We are SO happy with our new patio! The job took a bit longer than we anticipated but we are very happy with the results. Mark was at the job site almost every day. We did have an issue with one of the subs who was installing electrical for new lights but Mark came immediately and got everything ironed out right away. All the workmen cleaned up after themselves every day - having had construction done at other times we know how important that is when you are living in the house at the same time. I'm also impressed with the follow-up Mark and Enna have done. We had a small leak appear near the edge of the roof after we had our first rain. They sent a crew out several times until the leak was fixed. They are really committed to making sure their customers are completely happy and satisfied with the project.

We came to Horizon with a home that was in poor shape and needed not only remodeling, but also major structural repair and updates, such as piping, wiring, A/C and heating, etc. Horizon was proactive in advising us on design, selection and quality of materials and responsive to all our questions and concerns. I am not what you'd call an "easy" customer, but Horizon was prompt in resolving the kind of issues that inevitably come up with any project of this scope. They have also shown that they are willing to follow up on post-project touch-ups, etc; they are determined that we be fully satisfied with the project. We are extremely happy in our "new" home (it IS like new to us,) and will gladly recommend Horizon Construction and Remodeling, in fact, we have already done so. The project was very expensive, due to the damage and poor maintenance accruing over many years, and Horizon also helped us to find financing.

Workers arrived on time everyday and were friendly, courteous, and respectful. They cleaned everything up everyday before they left. They closed in the main part of my bedroom with plastic and covered floors and carpet with plastic all the way to the front door. Sam, the project manager checked in and directed the work. Mark the Contractor checked in occasionally and was a real perfectionist! If we had questions or concerns, they were addressed immediately and to our satisfaction. We really didn't have any concerns! Enna, Marks wife, Anna and Carolyn in the office were constantly in touch with us so we knew what to expect. They are all wonderful! The job was finished ahead of time and we absolutely love our new bathroom! We love Horizon and everyone associated with the company! They are a family company and care about their clients!

Our kitchen was gross. A DYI job by the previous owner on the cheap. Nasty drawers and cabinets that would shed wood particles all over our dishes. A poorly placed dishwasher that could open all the way made it completely useless. It needed to go. We researched contractors for over 6 months. Interviewed and got bids from 4. Horizon was the most expensive, which was a concern for us - but their strong reviews, experience and overall professionalism gave us peace of mind that was worth the additional cost. They worked with our budget to put together a plan that met our needs. After signing with them there were some unexpected things that came up. A few change orders, and our project manager left the company just as we started demo... But throughout Mark and Enna were helpful and responsive. The foreman Effy and his whole crew were great to work with and they made a point to leave the job site neat and tidy at the end of the day. This was our first major remodel and we're not the most laid back folks... So it was stressful. Despite all of our little worries along the way, but Horizon ultimately came through and gave us the beautiful kitchen that we had been dreaming of.

Everything went very well. Horizon completed the job on time and within budget. We had a vacation planned that caused the work to be interrupted. Horizon worked with us, completing as much as possible before our vacation and completing the project once we returned with no additional lost time. I really couldn't be more pleased. Mark and Enna are a pleasure to work with. I will definitely use them for future projects.

My kitchen project involved completely demolishing my old kitchen and making a brand new one. This also involved removing a load-bearing post and widening the opening to my living room. When I first spoke with Horizon, I had no idea what I wanted to do with the space, other than removing the load-bearing post and opening the doorway. The first time I met with the Project Manager, he showed me pictures of other kitchens, measured my existing kitchen, and sketched out some ideas of how the space could be redone. I appreciated the time he took to help develop how the new space would look. As with any construction project, there were a couple minor delays, and that?s to be expected. As a result, the project took a bit longer to complete than anticipated. What resulted was a beautiful, functional, new kitchen and I am so happy with the outcome. While the Project Manager that I had initially worked with left the company mid-project, the work continued to be carried out as planned. I only met Mark one time toward the latter part of the project, but was told that he had been at my home regularly throughout the project. Enna was my e-mail angel; always replying in a timely manner to my questions and concerns. The foreman that worked at my house was very helpful and kept in communication with me. I love my new kitchen and look forward to many years of enjoyment with family and friends. I would use Horizon again for future home improvement projects.

They did excellent work and showed up at the stated time. We had a couple of issues with miscommunication, which we discussed with them and they took care of. They do give a 2 year warranty on all their work , which we really like. They did work hard to see that we were pleased with their job. They will not be the least expensive quote for the work they do, but they do a high quality job and they will work to see that you are happy.

Given the reviews here on Angie's List, I contacted Horizon and asked for a proposal on a small bathroom remodel. A date and a contact was scheduled. The consultant arrived on time as scheduled. After listening for 20 minutes and measuring, the consultant took another 10 minutes to put together an oral proposal. He quickly reviewed what was in and what was out of the ballpark number he was giving us. He then told us that we had 4 days to make a decision to get a "special" 5% discount. That was the last we heard from the consultant or the company. I contacted them today and asked where the proposal was. They indicated that nothing had been prepared and just responded, "Was the price in the ballpark?" We've done a number of remodeling and significant repair projects. I've never had anyone not give us a written proposal so we can see what is included and what quality it represents. Horizon apparently wants to avoid preparation time for proposals that won't be accepted. To us, that just seemed unprofessional and was an alert about how they operate that wouldn't be consistent with our expectations. We are disappointed in the methodology. We don't find it up to industry standards.

Salesman was very knowledgeable. However, when we got to the show room, the saleman didn't want to provide a written estimate of the cost of a bath remodel, discouraged us from comparison shopping and tried to get us to sign on the spot. All of this made me very uncomfortable and we just wanted to get out of there. Needless, to say, we went with another Angies List contractor and we happy with the results.

This is the third time we have hired this contractor. We were very happy with their previous work (a kitchen remodel and replacing all the crown molding and baseboards throughout the house) so we had no hesitation in hiring them again. Mark came over and we talked through our wish list for the bathroom remodel. He offered useful suggestions and came back to us quickly with a detail plan and a price. Mark met with us twice at the tile store to help us make our selections. The whole project then proceeded very smoothly. Enna was quite helpful and very pleasant along the way in keeping us up to date and on top of all the decisions that had to be made. Workers were there every day and they were all well-skilled, polite and neat. There were a few issues that came up, but Mark and Enna and the workers always heard our concerns and made sure that everything was always completed to our satisfaction. The bathroom turned out beautifully with clean lines and gorgeous materials, just like we dreamed of.

My husband and I started our remodeling journey in February 2015. At first we wanted to just update our kitchen. But after a while we decided to expand the project and remove the walls between the kitchen, dining room and family room and create one big open space. We worked with a construction company for more than 3 months. We met with them many times and finally we decided they were not up to the task. My husband found Horizon from the Angie?s list and he setup an appointment. When Mark came to our house he explained the process to us. They would do the the plans, get them approved by the city and then we could use him for construction or go with another companies. He gave us a reasonable price for the drawings. He also showed us many pictures from different projects he had worked on. Projects in which he had moved or removed walls. That was important to me. Horizon move very quickly and we had approved plans in less than 3 weeks. Our project was not just upgrading rooms. There was serious structural change we needed to do. Removing all 3 load bearing walls and adding 2 huge beams across the house. It still scares me when I think about it. The construction project was supposed to take 3 months. The crews were in our house almost every day. And they worked really hard. The job site was kept clean and organized. We had a payment chart so we paid each piece after it was done. Demolition, material, footers, etc. I never forget the day we came home after a 3 day trip and saw the walls completely gone, beams up there and for the first time we could see our new space. It was very exciting. There were no big surprises but a few issues did come up but Mark and his team explained them and we work through them easily. Mark responded to all of our concerns and questions and was always available. The project finished just under 3 months and we are extremely happy with the result and experience. Mark and his team are true professionals. I also want to add that Enna was very helpful in the entire process keeping us up-to-date. Horizon made this project look easy. But I know it was not. They basically took our 1970 old, outdated and dark house and brought it to year 2015 making it look bright and open. Thank you Horizon Construction

Very well. Horizon workers were prompt, courteous and worked very hard. They were always pleasant and accommodating with any requests or concerns. There were a couple of hiccups dealing with the plumbing (a miscommunication about a part to the garbage disposal and the plumber didn't have the right fittings), but they were easily resolved. I would recommend Horizon and appreciate all the help and patience they showed us.

The project went smoothly from beginning to end. Omri, the project manager, was very helpful and patient in helping choose the tile and fixtures for the bathroom. Tal and his crew were very good at their jobs, whether it be the demo or the plumbing or tiling. Enna in the office kept us informed of the schedule which was very helpful. The end result is a beautiful bathroom that we love! Thank you Horizon!

The rep was timely. After much discussion, we were informed the kitchen would be a $50,000. job. I told him we did not have that amount anywhere in our budget. I have already shopped for cabinets, and can get exactly what I want for about $7,000. not including counter tops or installation (perhaps another $3,000). We need electrical, drywall, and not much else. I do not expect this work to be done for free, but for the small area that we have, I think $43,000. is waaaaaay over the top! Sadly, the rep then tried to convince me that their work was worth what he was quoting. I replied that if I had buckets of money, and did not know what I know about what things should cost, I might consider their company, since at those prices, I'm sure they do a really great job. However, I do NOT have buckets of money, and I know (from shopping) what things should cost. CAVEAT EMPTOR.

Not many people would describe a kitchen renovation as a pleasant experience, but my husband and I would. Ours is a 50s tract home, and we wanted to update the small kitchen without it looking out of synch with the rest of the house, what we like to call "mid century modest," AND we wanted to incorporate our vintage white Wedgewood range. We're a bit eclectic in our taste and were looking for someone who "got" our vision...kind of mid century without the kitsch or the ultra moderne style, with maybe a little Craftsman thrown in for good measure. It was a challenge to find that someone in our area. We initially got quotes from two other contractors who were willing to do what we thought we wanted. When we met with our third candidate, Mark Besnos of Horizon Construction & Remodeling, and described our desire to, for instance, relocate the sink, Mark said "You don't want to do that." At first we were taken aback, then saw the wisdom when he explained why moving the sink would be a big mistake. He was absolutely right, and we hired him on the spot. From Day 1 we were impressed by the steady communication with the office (run by his lovely wife, Enna) letting us know what to expect from day to day and addressing any questions or concerns we might have. We were equally impressed by the attention to detail and overall craftsmanship performed by each member of Mark's crew: every single detail was honed to perfection...cabinetry, floor tile, backsplash, paint, installations, even cleanup. A few changes were accommodated without undue stress or expense. We did have one unfortunate surprise when the load-bearing wall with the pass-through between the dining area and kitchen turned out to need reinforcement due to the work of the "handyman" who had owned the house before us. He had actually cut the support beams to create the pass-through, left them dangling, and then just closed up the wall. It's a miracle the house didn't fall down during an earthquake! So even though the fix meant a little more money than we anticipated, it was absolutely necessary and we now have a safer, more stable home. And the pass-through looks stunning! I did want to mention that the Caesarstone "Concrete" countertop is NOT suitable for a family with kids as it shows every handprint and drip. I failed to read the caveat on the Caesarstone Care & Maintenance page that clearly states: "Please understand that Honed, Concrete and Motivo? finishes will require more daily maintenance than our polished finishes. Since there is more exposed surface area with these finishes, metal marks, fingerprints and other signs of daily living will show on these materials." Bottom line: I've become a bit obsessive with a micro fiber towel always at hand. Horizon is a small, family-owned business run by and staffed by kind, caring, and competent professionals each of whom goes the extra mile to provide complete customer satisfaction. Even though Mark had to leave the country unexpectedly, the job stayed on track during his absence and was finished within the expected timeframe. It's no wonder Horizon has so many positive reviews, and we will definitely be using them again when we're ready to tackle our outdated bathrooms.

This was our first time doing any major renovation, and needed to get a new loan to finance it. After working out the contract, they referred us to a broker who connected us with a bank loan specialist. The process of getting the loan took much longer than we had originally expected, so our project was pushed out a couple months. Due to the delay, the cost of materials went up after the original cabinet supplier ran out of stock, and Horizon split the cost of the material increase 50/50 with us. Take away lesson: If you will need a loan to finance your job, get it upfront beforehand. Once we finally got started, like all jobs there were a few few misunderstandings (mostly due to the fact that there was so much time between the original contract, and actually starting the project), but they were all explained and settled in a courteous manner (they threw in no-slam hinges free of charge!). We had the floor done by a separate contractor for cost reasons, and Horizon was very accommodating to coordinate their work with the other contractor. Even with the back and forth between two contractors, the whole job was completed in about 3 weeks. As my wife and I both work, we had a lock box on the door, and Horizon worked while we were out for the day. When we came back in the afternoon, the house was still in order, and there was no mess outside of the work area. The finished project looks great and we are absolutely happy with it! I did not want to write a negative review, but they pushed me a little too far today. They simply cannot take NO for an answer. We contacted Horizon Construction fall of 2014 for a kitchen remodel. After a couple of pleasant phone exchanges, Omer the project manager came to our house. He was well prepared. He had a large binding full of Angie's list awards that the company received, copies of licenses, etc. We were impressed. He also showed photos of previous remodel jobs and photos of "their show room on State College blvd". He came by another time to present the quote/contract. But in the end we decided not to go with the company for the following points that made us question about truthfulness. 1. Omer was very reluctant to provide the written contract for us to review. When he came over, he would read the contract to us rather than giving us a copy for us to read. In the end he did provide a copy because we pressed on it, but we felt it was strange that he would not openly share it from the get-go. 2. When he came by to present the contract (before we even had a chance to review on our own), he was pushing us to sign the contract right there. This kind of pressure tactics always smells bad. 3. I mentioned picture of their showroom earlier. He told us that we can visit their showroom (making it sound like it is a well established company). However, when we actually wanted to visit, he said they do not have a showroom, but there are many cabinet shops on State College Blvd that we can visit and let him know what we like. After turning down their bid (and having completed the remodel with another company) almost a year ago, we are still getting solicitation calls from them. I have told them to take our number off their call list, but they keep calling. I received another call today while at work. Unless you want to receive forever spam calls, I advice you to be careful even to contact them. Had we known about this, we probably would not have contacted them at all. My take is that the company with a good reputation has no reason to hire people to make these annoying cold calls, especially during such a booming economy.

I would not ever do business with them, no matter the price they give me, just based on principle now. I don't know why I was treated differently than all of their clients that left positive feedback.

The project timeline was extended significantly by the discovery of the need for foundation work and the involvement of the City in that process. Otherwise, all the work of the contractor was excellent, timely and efficient. Every day the worksite was left clean and the house was livable through entire process. Workers were very skilled and eager to please and did excellent work. We had purchased new lighting for the house and they arranged for an electrician to do the installation for us. Omri, the project manager, was excellent at keeping us apprised of scheduled work times and visits, and with suggestions or variations of our ideas to enhance the house further. The business owner, Mark, was on site from time to time, including at the foundation specialist's initial visit. Occasionally additional work was recommended, generally for completion of the remodeling, or as recommended for long term benefit. Horizon's quality of work is excellent, they are honest, and the price of the work is fair. I can not overstate my satisfaction with my relationship with them.

Everything went fine. They did an excellent job. I was very pleased with what they've done. They do quite well.

My husband and I are extremely happy with the work performed by Horizon Construction. All the built-ins and cabinetry work are beautiful. The bathrooms are the envy of our friends and neighbors. Every team of specialists that came into our house took great pride in their work. And the pergola and new fencing are beautiful as well. Indeed, our house could be featured as a 'before and after' transformation in a designer magazine. With a project of this magnitude, there are bound to be surprises behind the walls. What was so great about Horizon was that they stepped up to the plate and went above and beyond to resolve every issue. Customer service is not just lip service with them, they take it to heart. Their reputation as a premier remodeler is very important to them. Our project manager, Omri Nave, was professional and extremely responsive, as was Enna Eskin in the office. As a side note I should add that we were originally going with another contractor recommended by friends, but after many weeks and still no firm bid from that contractor, I searched for a contractor on Angie's List. Omri from Horizon came out immediately and met with my husband at the house we had just purchased (I was in Arizona at the time). Omri worked until very late that night to prepare the detailed bid. And my husband signed on the dotted line without hesitation. It is never easy to go through a remodel project of this size, especially while you are living in the house. But we are so grateful to the Horizon team for their professionalism and dedication to customer satisfaction. What few issues came up were resolved quickly and without hassle. We would recommend Horizon Construction and Remodeling without reservation.

I have never written a review about any company before mainly because I have never worked with a company that delivered what it promised. That ended when we contracted Horizon Construction and Remodeling. Not only was the work done beautifully but was finished within the timeline we set, and they delivered as promised. I can't say enough about this company. Mark Besnos and his crew are without a doubt the best contractor and professionals we have ever worked with. When we first met with Mark we knew he was the right guy. He works within your budget and has so many great ideas that help with your design decision making. Also, behind every successful company there is a very professional office staff. Enna Eskin makes sure that all the paperwork is done and expedited on time. She's great to work with and is there to answer any questions you might have. You feel like family with this company because they take such good care of you. Mark oversees every aspect of the project himself. He arrived everyday before and after his workers finished their work and walked through the project and inspected it. If something didn't meet his approval he would tag it and have them redo it. He is a perfectionist and it shows when the project is done. His crew cleaned up every night after they finished their work and left us with a clean house to live in and that was not an easy task to do. If you are looking for the Rolls Royce of Contractors, don't look any further. Horizon Construction and Remodeling is the company you want. You won't be disappointed.

When we bought our home, we knew we wanted to take on a massive remodel/upgrade. We interviewed and gathered estimates from four Southern California general contractors, all of them coming in with high ratings and reviews from Houzz, Yelp, Angie?s List and BBB. Horizon did not come in the lowest bidder, however, their professionalism, conduct of business, their interaction with their clients and attention to detail was what made them stand out from the others. Undergoing a project as big as ours (a complete remodel of master bath, all new windows and doors, new flooring throughout the house, a complete new stair case, opening up a room, blowing out wall, painting the whole interior, changing out hardware, adding a pergola and incorporating a 15' bi-fold door) there are going to be bumps and unforeseen turns in the road. From relocating an outlet for daily convenience to installing a new header beam to comply with city permitting, no task was too small for Horizon the scope of our remodeling project. Their team of designers and contractors walked us through picking out our materials, gave us experienced advice and listened to our dream home vision. What we originally though we wanted or thought about forgoing, Horizon helped us plan and design around our budget and keep the big picture in perspective. At the end of the six-month project we were very impressed with how Horizon handed all the different types of issues and challenges that arouse. This house is our "20 year home" where will be raising our children, having family gatherings and hosting countless friends. We have now lived the home for three months (construction free) and we are very happy with the quality of service and out come of our remodel done by the team at Horizon Construction and Remodel.

We employed Horizon Construction (Mark and Enna) in 2013 to remodel our guest and master bathrooms and couldn't have been happier with how they turned out. A little while after the completion of the project, we noticed a sewage line smell coming from the master bathroom. They came out at the time to check it out, but their plumber didn't smell anything, nor did he find issues on inspection. The bathroom smell had been present on and off throughout the past year and a half and recently the tile starting becoming discolored near the base of the toilet. Around the same time, we had some electrical failures in the guest bathroom, so I decided to email them. It had been a year or so since our last correspondence, but Enna responded very quickly (within a few hours). After a few back and forth emails, they made an appointment to come to the house. I first emailed them on a Tuesday, and they came out that same Friday! Pretty amazing turnaround for a job where no money was involved. They arrived right on time and immediately began work. For the master bathroom, they pulled the toilet, then tore out the drywall behind and to the side of the toilet to check for leaks. They then flushed the sewer line to make sure it wasn't backed up. They spent the rest of the day (they worked from ~8AM-4:30PM) putting it all back together - new drywall, new baseboards, fresh paint, double wax seal around the toilet and... no smell! They didn't caulk the toilet and said to keep flushing it over the weekend and keep checking for the smell. They came back the next week to caulk the toilet as promised and 2+ weeks later, still no smell. It's difficult to describe the frustration of a phantom smell, but I can describe how we felt - elation - once it was fixed. The electrical issue was fixed up quickly as well - no lingering problems there. I wanted to write this review today to thank a company for going out of their way for customer satisfaction. They worked at our house all day (with zero mention of any cost to us whatsoever) because they take pride in their work and wanted to make sure we were happy. Thank you again, Mark and Enna! We are definitely very happy!
