About us

The Newman Advantage was born through a vision to elevate the customer experience — to treat them like true VIP’s. This encompasses values like on-time service, professionally trained technicians, free in-home estimates, and stellar customer service. This advantage gave Newman Windows and Doors an advantage over its competitors. Customers were happy, growth was inevitable. Through the years, Newman Windows and Doors has grown from a small mom-and-pop business to a fully functioning professional business. They now have four locations, a large fleet of vehicles, and a team of installers to serve customers in San Diego and Orange Counties. Although the company has grown, the core mission has not. They still offer exceptional service to every homeowner.

I signed the contract in July with an estimate to install in mid-August. They actually couldn't fit me in until a week after the originally estimated week. Two installers arrived for the scheduled two day install. They got started right away and things seemed to be going quickly. The first thing they did was re-measure every window to make sure the windows that were ordered are the correct size. It was found that one window was ordered incorrectly (I believe due to a mis reading of original order hand writing). They installed the remaining windows, with only one window and the sliding door to install on day 2. One window butted up to the kitchen countertop which I was going to tear out the following week for a kitchen remodel. The installer discussed the best options with his supervisor and decided they would remove enough of the tile countertop so they could get the window in so that the kitchen demo would not break the window. This was a good plan to me since I did not want one or the other to interfere. They were also willing to delay the final trimming of the window until after the new countertop was installed. This allowed the window and the countertop to be completely flush with one another. The trimming was done when they returned to install the incorrectly ordered window. One thing I wasn't warned about was the fact that the sliding glass door leaves a gap between the door step and the existing vinyl flooring from the kitchen. You can see about a half inch of cement flooring. When they came back to install the window that was originally the wrong size, the installer noted that the frame was scratched and they would be ordering a new frame. It is nice to have honest installers rather than wait for the customer to complain. Although a few mishaps with the wrong size window, and then scratched window frame, I have no complaints about the installers or the professionalism they showed. As a side note, I sometimes wish I paid more attention to the and quot;sight lineand quot; of the windows as the Milgard Tuscany windows look uneven from one side of the window to the other.
Description of Work: 10 replacement windows and 1 replacement sliding glass door Milgard Tuscany, except for one which was the Milgard Styleline (since it was a really skinny window space) All sliding windows.

From the quoting process to the final result - every step of the way was professionally handled to include follow calls after the work was completed. Sales team was willing to share insights and discussed with us various products (vinyl doors vs. fibreglass) and their installation options. Installation crew was timely, reliable, and worked hard. They were very neat and cleaned up after themselves every day. Newman Windows is a great local company. They were competitive and completed the job on time. Would highly recommend them.

We are very happy with it. They were prompt. We thought they were quite reasonably priced. They did the work that they said they would and they left the place cleaner than it had been when they came. I just think that they were reasonably priced and they did what they said they would. They were very pleasant to deal with. We are very happy with them. I will use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Newman Replacement Windows for my mother's house. I used their services last Friday. They replaced the window sash that needed to be replaced and in addition they replaced two other entire windows. The other two windows that were replaced were the old single pane aluminium frame windows which were forty years old. They took out these windows and just replaced it with double pane vinyl windows. So overall they replaced two medium sized windows plus replaced one sash in an existing window.

We intereviewed five window companies to select replacement windows and sliding patio doors for our condo. Newman Windows was one of the companies we contacted for an estimate. We went by the showroom in San Diego on Morena to see the windows. It was helpful to see the windows and get a feel for how they operated. The girl in the showroom couldn't really answer our questions but she did schedule an appointment for us. Darren came out to talk with us. He was punctual and professionally dressed. He seemed very knowledgable about windows. We have a problem with noise due to neighbors and fly overs from Miramar. He suggested panes of different thicknesses to help with sound, 1/4 by 1/8 inch. This coincided with the independent research we had done. We did have to wait for an estimate, which was disappointing. He came out on Thursday, June 30th and we received the estimate via email on Wednesday, July 6th. However since this wasn't a standard order he did have to contact Milgard. One of the things we didn't like is that is seemed like there would be a bit of a wait after the windows were finished before Newman would be able to install them. We were very comfortable with Darren and Newman Windows. We chose not to go with them because of cost. The estimate was $6821 for five windows and two doors, Milgard Tuscany with upgraded glass. I think the price was probably fair, but it was the highest estimate and we plan to sale this condo as soon as the market permits. In different circumstances, we would have probably selected Newman Windows.

I would rather not comment. I had a few problems with them. I would not do business with them again. It was nothing grossly irregular but I was not happy dealing with them after I signed the contract. I should have accepted another bid that was about the same price. The salesman was very nice but very high pressure. I would not call them again.

I have been wanting to replace these windows for a long time. I researched vendors through Angies List. I had four separate estimates. I chose Newman Windows for several reasons. They came in with the best price and supplied me products from one manufacturer (Milgard). I was pleased with the salesman who came to my home. I visited their showroom to view the products before purchase.I placed my order with 10 percent down and was given a one month date to receive the product. The windows arrived prior to the target date. I scheduled an appointment for installation. The two installers were prompt with this appointment, they were very polite, professional and neat. Drop clothes were layed in the appropriate areas and the areas were vacuumed at the end of the day. All in all, this was a very pleasant experience considering that there is a large tax rebate and a supplemental rebate from Milgard. I highly recommend Newman Windows...

I called Newman Replacement Windows, and Greg Frinell came to our home to measure, discuss window options and pricing. He explained the pros and cons of the different styles and made recommendations on design. He came to our home several times to discuss changes we wanted to make. He was very patient and said "he just wanted to make sure we were happy with our choices, and to take the time needed to make that decision". We were scheduled as soon as the estimated date was established. The crew was great. They were all professional, polite and responded quickly to any questions or request we had during the install. I would highly recommend this company.

We were pleased that Greg Frinell, the sales person arrived on time for our meeting. He answered our questions and gave us some window options. Our installers Mark Lewis and Craig worked together as a team and were accomodating. They arrived each day on time. Mark was knowledgable and able to answer our questions. The installation process completed on time. Our only complaints would be that we were told that our shutters were not required to be removed. As a result of the installation, two of our shutter blades now have gouges. Also, we keep finding screws and window parts scattered throughout our driveway and yard. Overall, we are happy with our new windows and doors.

Installation went well, work was done in a punctual manner. However, after replacement any issues with windows mechanism was not addressed by Newman but rather the manufacturer even though they had just been installed. This took sometimes several days before we would receive a call back or service visit. We had three screen doors installed with the sliders and none of the locks worked on them...still don't.

Their service was excellent, from the initial consultation, up to the follow up we needed with the manufacturer. The two guys we had, Sandy Sand and Russell Colegrove were professional and very thorough, they where here on time, got to work right away, they did not waste any time. They are really taking pride in what they are doing, they did not stop until every window was installed 100% perfect. They had no problem with any questions, you had, or requests, they would go above and beyond, to fix it. I would recommend them anytime and as a matter of fact already have, and will in the future, to anybody that is seeking a reliable company to install windows or doors.

For the second call back, I didn't appreciate having the door pounded on (literally) two hours early for the appointment and then I was told that the office hadn't given them any set time? Huh? They took care of the problem. I guess my main complaint is with some workers' sloppy installation ( I also found over a dozen screws on one window sill, but worse was finding a straight edge razor in the front bedroom and the office. Fortunately, we don't have small children who could have hurt themselves.) I think that Mr. Slama could do a better job of customer relations and training his staff thoroughly.
Description of Work: We have new Milgard replacement windows. The salesman, Greg Frinell, was very helpful and knowledgeable about styles of windows, etc. Of course, it's his job to be that way; however, we were happy with his candor and assistance. The main reason we chose Newman is because of the installation and guarantees. I would change their overall rating from a C to a B. The price was reasonable as far as replacement windows are concerned; however, I was not happy having to make two calls for service because of sloppy beading on the garden window and improper (careless?) installation of the interior framing on a family room window. I called and spoke with the Service/Installation manager Randy Slama. I told him that plastic should have been taped up during the installation of the garden window. Lack of plastic meant having extremely fine particles of ground tile dust throughout the house - especially downstairs. He wasn't apologetic and essentially told me that dust is a part of construction. I don't see it that way because the area involved was perhaps 5 x 3 and most of the dust could have been caught.

He said that his sales rep. did order the wrong window and they would replace that. He said that he would knock down the price for the drywall repair to $400, even though I pleaded that the majority of the damage was done by his staff. Finally, I felt my hands were tied due to serious time constraints waiting for other jobs to begin when this one would be finally done, so I felt obligated to say okay and do it for the additional up sell cost. There were two items that added insult to injury: First, their stucco/drywall crew tore one of the screens just installed because they were not being careful; Second, they left their texture drywall spray can on the bathroom counter that left a rust ring. In the end, Milgaard replaced the screen at no charge and I scrubbed the rust for days with CLR. There is still a faint ring of rust on the bathroom counter. The GM called me back today. He recognized that they were responsible for the rust ring on the bathroom counter, but he denied that his crew did the damage to the drywall. He's trying to say that the electrician I hired did the damage, but if you look at the photo's closely you'll notice that the electrician did leave some small hammer holes, but the huge hole in the photo is from his crew. Furthermore, he is demanding that I retract the photo, which I will not. Today, November 4, I continued a conversation with the owner Duncan Newman. We finished our conversation yesterday disagreeing who caused at least partial damage to the drywall. Today, he stated that his installer, Mark, denied any further damage. Ultimately I agreed to request Angie's List to remove the pictures of the drywall. He stated that my write-up was slanderous and fraudulent. I stated that we fundamentally disagree on who was responsible for at least part of the damage to the drywall. I told him that all I wanted was an apology for the other three items a long time ago, yet he and his staff had yet to apologize about the incorrect window installed, the tear in the screen done by his staff and the rust ring on the bathroom counter created by his staff. He first responded with inappropriate language and I further demanded an apology, which he offered and ultimately apologized for his staff's rust ring and erroneous window installed. Furthermore, Duncan Newman was not able to persuade me that his staff up sold me. He took this claim very serious, but in the end we agreed to disagree and my original write-up stands.
Description of Work: We wanted two sliding glass doors installed and a replacement window in the kitchen. In the contract in stated that they do not do electrical, plumbing or painting. I got the impression from their sales person, Darren, that they included stucco and drywall. He recommended I get an electrician, which I did, to install exterior lights to meet code and move one of the electrical outlets. He gave us the impression it would be easy and that his company would take care of the stucco and drywall problems. Their installation crew did the initial job about four weeks after the order was originally placed. Unfortunately, that was also when I discovered that they installed the wrong type of window in the kitchen and they said I would need to contact the office because I would probably need to pay more for the drywall repair. I was flabbergasted, but I contacted the drywall/stucco manager and he said it would be around $700 in addition. After a night of thinking about it, I thought that was highway robbery and they were seriously trying to up sell me. I went on the internet and checked-out left a message for their general manager stating that I was very unhappy about this and I felt stuck because I would have to postpone all other jobs if I did not move and allow them to do the drywall, although I could guarantee I could get a drywall guy there for under $100.00. That night I also went onto the internet and checked their license. I discovered the GM was also a sales rep. and left him another message stating that I did not want to speak with him, I would prefer to speak with the owner Mr. Duncan Newman because I was frustrated at that point dealing with what I felt shady sales rep's. The GM, a relative of Duncan Newman, called me back that morning anyway and said that he was the only person I could talk to about the situation.
