Cosentino’s All About Home Repairs

I had Alberto out again, this time to install a security camera on my front porch. He helped me find the perfect location and angle, and did a very clean install. He hot-glued the cable tightly against the corner so they're barely visible. As always, he was punctual and professional, making sure the job was done right and looked perfect.

Alberto has done several jobs for me over a couple of years. I like to hire him because he is highly skilled, meticulous in detail, can see what the finished result will be. He is punctual , polite and positive. I like it that he sticks with the project until it is right, and he checks with me when a choice is needed - I call it respect. ( I see that one of the earlier reviews claims that Alberto "freaked out." This can't be true , and seems unfair.)

We had used Alberto a couple of months ago when he came out to try to fix our Rohl faucet. As stated in a previous post, he tried as best he could but the major problem could not be fixed due to a previous improper installation. They had left out a key part that, over time, prevented the handle from turning. He did at that time, however, make the faucet usable and suggested we get a new one. We called to have him come out and install a new Delta faucet that we had purchased. He called back promptly to set an appt. but due to our conflicting schedules, it was several days before we could set a mutually acceptable appt. On the day of the appt., he showed up on time and began the installation process. We ran into a problem in that the new faucet was missing one of the bags of parts and one of these parts was key to the installation. Alberto then went to Home Depot where we purchased the faucet and was able to get the needed part for us. When he returned he was able to complete the installation and everything is now working fine. I would approximate that between the work time and travel to Home Depot and back, he easily spent a couple of hours. Although this process was tedious, Alberto was professional and helpful the entire time. I would not hesitate to use his handyman services again or to recommend him to others

But when he opened the box he freaked out, saying that the hood was a different design than he expected and that he simply was not prepared to install it. Moreover he would not provide an alternative time when he would be prepared to do the installation (probably because he realized that his cost bid for labor was way too low and at that point he just wanted to cut his losses and run for the exit.) The lady of the house (it is a rental) stayed home from work that day so that Alberto could install the hood and was very disappointed when he told her that he could not. I had to hire another installer and it cost me $1,000, an increase of 567% over the price Alberto quoted me. I refused to pay Alberto anything for his "trouble". The new hood sat in the garage for two weeks before the installment could be rescheduled and completed by the alternate installer. The whole experience struck me as extremely unprofessional, since Alberto was given the model number, the manufacturer's website detailing the features and photos of its various models, and photographs of the installation site in full detail. It seems to me that with this much information in hand, a true professional would have known what the installation required, provided a realistic cost bid for the job, and have been prepared to do the job at the agreed upon time. After all, the replacement installer seemed to have his act together. I would not recommend Alberto Cosentino to anyone else. I have considered taking Alberto to court for damages. His explanations were very weak in my opinion.

Mr. Cosentino's was on-time, completely professional, friendly. His work was done quickly and everything is working fine. I definitely recommend Mr. Cosentino's service!

Alberto responded to my first call within a couple of hours and kept me informed throughout the process of his schedule and when he was available. He even called the morning of the appt.to give me an update as to his arrival time. I felt his final price was fair especially considering the time spent (2 1/2 - 3) hours.

We were in a bind to finish the last piece of our kitchen remodel (the bid from our primary contractor was too high). On very short notice, Alberto came in and stayed all day on a Saturday to finish the job for us. Excellent quality, enjoyable to work with, great responsiveness and clean-up, and the price was good. It could not have gone better for us. Alberto gave us some very helpful ideas and we have started a second project with him. Highly recommended, with no reservations.

Baseboard installation: nicely done. Drywall repair: terrible job, we had to get another contractor afterwards to fix the problem. Installation of hanging brackets for TV: He had to open the wall to find out where studs were while there was a photo of the studs in that area. Fixture was hung upside down, we had to hire another contractor to repair drywall and hang brackets correctly. Automatic door closer was installed correctly. Sawdust in the garage was not cleaned up, leftover materials were not put in trash. Very expensive for the work he did. Very friendly person, took way too much time to work on the projects.

We selected Cosentino's All About Home Repairs based on the ratings and comments on Angie's list. This is the first time we've used a vendor from Angie's List and the experience was superb. Our call to Cosentino was answered immediately and we were able to schedule an appointment on the same call directly with Alberto. Because this involved a door lock and sliding door leading to the pool, we had some urgency for the repairs. While Alberto informed us that his schedule was pretty full, he was willing to get us in early the next day, which was a Saturday to get the doors fixed as soon as possible. He was punctual and very professional. Alberto was able to accurately diagnose and perform effective/appropriate repairs on the spot. We were extremely happy with our experience and give this vendor 'A' ratings across the board.

Alberto was great. Not only was he the only handyman to answer the phone promptly on a Sunday, but he was prompt in his follow up communication, arrived on time as promised and did a professional job. He was very cordial and comfortable to work with. I would highly recommend him.

Both experiences with Alberto have been great. Kitchen cabinet: The kitchen cabinet had already been fixed once when we called him, but it was falling down again. He did the fix right, anchoring the cabinet in several ways so that we are now confident it won't fall again. And it looks terrific! Laundry room door: The laundry room door is one of those sliding doors that folds into itself. It kept getting off the track and wouldn't operate right. My husband had fixed it numerous times, but this time it was a bit beyond him. Alberto fixed it and it's stayed fixed. Stove: this is a bit more complicated. There was a space under where the stove had been installed that left a gap between the stove and the floor. Alberto build a sort of platform/closure so that the stove is secure and we don't have that awful gap. In every case, he's been on time, performed high-quality work and provided great service at an affordable price. We will use him again, for sure.

He was very professional, prompt and did the entire job in less than two hours. His quality of work was good.

Difficult to pin down to a date. Work was completed but not carefully completed. Escutcheons were not secured.

Alberto Cosentino is a man who loves what he does. You can see it in his eyes, hear it in his voice, and witness it in his craftsmanship. He literally whistles while he works! You don't fake that. After reading the great reviews on Angie's List, I was determined this was my guy, but I was disappointed he couldn't start right a way. I quickly realized this was a good thing. He's not willing to take on simultaneous jobs where he can't devote his full attention and, in the end, every job suffers. Trust me, he's worth the wait. He and his partner did a fantastic job doing a minor renovation while keeping within my budget. I think that's his greatest strength. In my case, if I'm not sure what I want, and money is an object. He gave me his experienced opinion on where the best places I should spend my money. A lot of people in his line of work are not fluent in English, but (despite the accent) I had very little trouble discussing ideas with him and understanding the specifics of the work that was to be done. In the past, at best, I've had a native English speaker bid on the job, only to find a bunch of other people doing the work. When I got home and asked questions, no one could answer them. Needless to say, things did not turn out well. In Alberto's case, we talked about what I had in mind, he made suggestions, I countered, and we moved forward. I was never surprised by what he did (or did not do). He made great choices and made sure I was happy every step of the way. I can't wait for another (hopefully much bigger) job I can throw his way!

He came in and cleaned out the aerator. Since he has left I'm not able to get a full stream of water to come out of my faucet. He has offered to come back out but he wants to charge me more money.

Alberto came out to the house to review the situation. In addition to the door, he recommended replacing the door frame as well for it was in terrible condition. Result: Alberto did an excellent job. He could have taken some short cuts (lusing inferior materials like a cheaper door; installing a door knob that did not have a key lock on it; not paint the door and door frame). Instead, he choose to do it right. I had a 10% coupon that I could had applied to the invoice. Since the job was completed in less than a week when I first called upon Alberto (he came out Saturday morning to do the work), combined with performing the work in a workmanship like manner, I felt he earned the price quoted and I decided not to ask for the 10% discount. Cost: $500 (the initial estimate was between $500 - $600).

Everything went as schedule!!! I look forward to using Alberto's again!

Alberto arrived on time, and we spent 15 minute discussing the details of the project. Once we reached agreement on what needed to be done, I left for work. When I returned home in the evening, the job had been completed and looked great. Alberto cleaned up the work area nicely, and left an invoice and materials receipt on my kitchen table.

Detail:A segment of tile floor in the bathroom separated from false walls. Pictures were taken and sent to Mr. Cosentino.He was prompt in showing up but I was 10 minutes late. In the meantime he had told my wife that the right fix was to redo the entire bathroom but he might be able to fix the issue locally. Before I arrived he proceeded to take out grout and loosen some of the tiles (He was careful to do it to tiles that did not show up in the pics I had sent him!!!) After I arrived he went to crawl space and when emerged he said it was really bad and if I took responsibility, he would try to fix it for $1000 dollars!! I then showed him a rotted under sink cabinet bottom (due to a leak) and he said it would take $400 to fix that. After much haggling he reduced the total price to $1350, never mentioning a 10% refund he has on the site for jobs larger than $300. And told us it was dangerous to even walk into the bathroom. Based on the reviews on this site, scared kids might accidentally walk in to the bathroom and hurt themselves, we agreed. He said it would take him one whole day to do it. After he left, we thought at that price he would be making about $168/hr!! It was time to get a second opinion. I found Paco from RedBeacon (a Home Depot free service). After a crawl space check, he said the Metal joists in my house would make it very easy to add a 2x6 segment and fix the issue with more support than the original flooring. Cost? $150. Dangerous to walk into the bathroom? Are you kidding? I showed him the kitchen cabinet. His estimate was $75. He did the job in 2 hours and I gave him a hefty bonus and it looks better than the original!!

Alberto arrived on time and worked non-stop to complete all items. Professionally done. Very personable demeanor. Would call him again if needed.
