This is a Father (Greg) and Son (Cameron) business that was highly recommended to us when we bought our home in Saddlebrooke. We were told they would be expensive but do great work. Greg was initially very nice and cordial but that all changed when it came to being paid. Unfortunately, the job was not without a great deal of unnecessary and avoidable frustration and stress. We were not full-time residents so we entrusted Greg with the code to our home so he could give us a quote to do three jobs for us. We have since changed the codes because he abused that trust. The written quote was of no surprise, high $6610. Trying to get the quote took numerous phone calls (should have been 1st red flag). Finally got the quote and then trying to get the work scheduled was also not easy, he was booking months out. We finally got a start date and we advised the importance of each job we wanted done, the garage being most important and first to be done. We arrived to our home after driving 14 hours from California only to walk in at 10pm and find our Master Bed room a complete mess. Greg had used the code to our home to make entry and start the job 2 weeks early without any advanced notice or authorization from us. Further, he chose not to do the garage first as we had requested. (red flag #2). Greg told us he had 23 jobs going (red flag #3). This basically meant that his workers were spread thin. They were scheduled to show up on two occasions but did not show up as scheduled. The work dragged out for weeks, workers showed up without notice 90% of the time then would leave for another ongoing job. In short a job that should take a week, takes 4 or more weeks since they are juggling 23 jobs at once. They really need to learn how to focus on one job at a time or more effectively schedule the jobs. The workers were very nice and we took no issue with them or the son, Cameron other than they came and went as they wanted without notice. When they were doing the 3rd phase of the work I put in a change and asked what the cost would be and Greg told me verbally $1,100 (that would make the total job $7,710). Again, this seemed high, but we went with it. Because it involved a window I asked if a County permit was required and I was told "no"! (Red flag #4). I have since learned, after the job was done, that this was a load bearing wall and a County Permit was required as well as an HOA permit. When the new window showed up it had a defect, but Greg said the window was $565 his cost and he would discount it 10% ($56) so we accepted it. Cameron and his team worked to install the window and after they left I saw it was approximately 4"+ higher than all of the other windows. I called to complain. Greg was to come by the next day to see it but cancelled that day. He finally showed up 4 days later and said he would have Cameron and his team fix it. They did, but it is still not exactly level with the other windows. Cameron graciously admitted he had not measured properly, I said no worries, mistakes happen and I was just glad it was fixable. Communication was poor at best, mainly just texting and email. Again, they have huge issues with scheduling and workers come and go without notice. We were just happy to have them show up and get closer to finishing as we lived in a mess for weeks. When the work was finally finished Greg showed up that day to ask for payment and briefly showed me a bill. He did not have a copy for me but said he would have it scanned and emailed over. A week later, I asked his secretary Diane (no longer works for him) to send the copy so I could pay and also asked for the window serial numbers so I could register them for the warranty. A week later I asked again. Greg called asking for the money and I told him I would pay nothing without a bill and the serial numbers. He became irate. He insisted in his 14 years (he’s not been licensed for 14 years) nobody ever asked for this information and I said well I am so I can get the MIlgard warranty. We went around and around for days over the window information. He was very unprofessional and very rude, demanding his money. Sent me an email telling me to pay him. Greg was furious I was hold up payment until he provided me the information, but it was a reasonable request so I stood my ground. I told Greg I wish he put this much passion and urgency into getting the job done as he was in getting paid. The serial numbers were never provided, but Milgard worked with me to get them. Greg finally dropped the invoice by which was substantially higher than he had quoted. The quote was $6610 plus an additional $1100 for the change, totaling $7710, but the bill was $8190. We had expected the $1,100 to be reduced by $56 for a total due of $7,654. The final bill was $536 more than quoted. I believe Greg charged us extra to fix their installation mistake and their having to take out, lower and reinstall the window. We cannot recommend Saddlebrooke Remodeling at all. They are highly over-priced, very hard to deal with because they will not make a schedule and because they have so many jobs, work takes way too long and they do not honor their word. They seemingly do not comply with County Codes in securing permits. It was not worth all the anxiety and we certainly did not appreciate being ripped off at the end and treated so poorly for simply asking for a bill and warranty information. The overall final quality of work is only okay, for what we paid we should have excellent quality. Greg has never apologized for his behavior nor has he refunded any of the overcharged money.
