SGM used a variety of subs for us, including a plumber, tile guy, and carpet layer......but Salvdor Gonzalez, the owner, is himself knowledgable and personally capable of any of these tasks, in my opinion. There was some electrical work which he did himself. He is always in close communication with the workers and oversaw our project closely and regularly....every day. Our project was located at Sun City Festival, which is 10 miles west of Surprise, but Salvador was never more than a few minutes late (if at all) and I can say the same for his subs......all of them. Spanish is often the language used for worker communication on the project, but that was never any concern --- Salvador made sure that the workers knew exactly what to do, and that we knew exactly what was going to happen, and when. Salvador himself offered suggestions several times, which nearly always turned out to be better than our original thoughts. He also advised us of a tile and carpet supplier, each of which were better than we would probably have found by ourselves, and we have lived in the area for three winters. In addtion, he himself supplied the granite that was installed on the countertop -- after showing us a variety of samples so that he had an idea what we might like. Granite is a natural material, and samples can vary wildly from the real thing, as we knew from having installed it in kitchens (in northern Idaho) on two earlier occasions. The granite he found for us was SIGNIFICANTLY better than we anticipated --- and of a sort that is above average in cost....our experience assures us of this. It was installed in about half a day.....including backsplash and cutting holes for drains and faucets (double sinks). Cabinets were not removed....nor damaged. At all. We had two other contractors look at and estimate the cost, and actually had decided to use one of them instead of SGM Construction, until they explained that the cost was going to run 5-10 thousand more than their original estimate. We called Salvador back, and he began the project within a few days. My estimate is that we would have spent a minumum of $4000 more had we not gone with SGM. Summary: #1 - the work done was of good quality #2 - the cost was less......and there were no surprises. We received a detailed cost breakdown sheet -- work and materials, etc -- and that is what the cost was. #3 - We were asked to select and purchase some materials directly from suppliers (tile, carpet, some plumbing fixtures), though SGM supplied most basics (dry wall, and etc --) SGM picked materials up from the suppliers as we directed...transported and installed
Description of Work: Extensive remodel of master bathroom plus recarpeting of 3 bedrooms. The original tub and shower were both replaced.....tub relocated and new walk-in (doorless) tile shower built. The countertop was also replaced with granite...the original tile floor was removed and replaced with natural stone travertine. We purchased approximately $11,000 worth of materials (tile, carpet, etc) -- so the total project cost was $23,041.00. In this area, cost of materials is NOT reduced by having a contractor purchase them, in my opinion...and that of others with whom I have spoken. In many cases, the opposite will be true. The project was difficult because SunCityFestival homes are built in such a way that drains are nearly impossible to relocate, and water sources had to be re-routed as well.

The experience was excellent. I referred SGM Construction LLC to a friend who was looking for a contractor for some home rennovations. Here is what Brittany had to say "I have to say that you get what you pay for and Salvador and his team did a fantastic job. The tile downstairs and the wood floors look incredible. Salvador and his team were very professional and very prompt in returning my calls throughout the process. There was nothing we wanted that he couldn't do! Overall, the whole project went very smoothly and was done in 2 weeks, and we have a whole new house it seems. We live in our home so it was difficult with a remodel to shuffle things from room to room but Salvador worked with his team to give us the time we needed to shift things around. He was able to find a granite slab for the island that is pretty close to what we already had in the kitchen too, which was all included in our quote. Now our tiny kitchen looks like a galley kitchen. With the remodel we gained a dining room where the previous living room was (who needs two living rooms next to each other?) and put an island where the eat in kitchen area was. We extended the cabinets out too so the kitchen looks like it was always that size. I am very pleased and will be definitely going through him for future rennovations... yes we are already planning what is next!!"
Description of Work: Remove carpet on 1st/2nd story, install wood tile on 1st story, install engineered hardwood on 2nd story and stairs, lower a wall, rewire electrical, install outdoor ceiling fan with electrical run to the inside switches in house, install kitchen island and granite slab, install pantry wall cabinets, paint ceiling, install new dining room light and move existing ceiling fan to a new location

Interviewed maybe 8 or 9 contractors, SGM Construction was the first and I was sold on his professionalism but of course I need to compare shop. All other contractions were unclear on what they would do for what amount of money. SGM Construction said would do, did what he said he would do, and for the amount he said he would do it for. Services: estimate demo and removal plumbed valve shower, drain, and tub valve and fixtures All within time frame he estimated

It's been a while, but I remember the quality of work in painting the master bathroom and bedroom, and guest bathroom were top-notch. The painter taped everything off, painted thoroughly and quickly. A beautiful job at an excellent price.

He's excellent. He's a general contractor so he usually has other people come out to do the work but he's always there some time during the day to see the work and see how it's done. When I did have a problem on some of the grout on the bathroom tile that has started to crack so I called him and he came over the next day and fixed it himself.
Description of Work: The first time I had SGM Construction LLC, they did some tile work for me in the bathrooms and for the second time, I had some concrete work done on the side of my driveway.

Overall the project went well. Salvadore was punctual and showed up when he said he would. He did not do any of the work himself; he had a couple of guys who did the shower valve, shower pan, tile and drywall. I ended up using 2 of the 4 styles of tile he had. The price was a bit much for the lack of options. I ended up going to Home Depot and purchasing a small border tile to use as well. The price included a shower bench and niche. However, the valve, floor tile, drywall and baseboards were all extra. I'm very happy with the quality of work and short time it took to get done. Shortly after the job was completed, the same deal from a different company came up on Angie's List for almost half the price. That made me feel like the price I paid was fairly high, but again, I am satisfied with the quality of work. I would recommend Salvadore again.
Description of Work: Had Salvadore's crew install a shower valve and retile the mater bath shower. Also had them finish some drywall in the bathroom, retile some of the floor and install baseboards.

This was not a good experience. They were fraudulent. They were not aware of coding issues regarding my initial project and never got back to me on the codes, so they had to do another project. They changed the way I wanted to project done. They were also trying to charge me three times as much for some of the materials such as large boxes of screws and nails and the drywall compound. They workers put studs in the wrong spot and did not leave an opening I wanted in a particular place and had to redo it and they ran out of time on the deal.

Very well - the complete tear-out and install was completed in about 4 days. The installers did a very nice job - the waterproofing seemed to be very thorough and the installation of the new tile is perfect. They added a few dollars for special things like staggered joints and larger tiles, but nothing that was unreasonable. We are very happy with the process, price and results.

SGM worked diligently to complete all of this work perfectly and efficiently, so we could have carpet replaced and custom cabinetry installed before our guests arrived for the Christmas holidays. Salvador worked with us to design the new bathroom and coordinated and oversaw all of the construction staff and work. The idea of the bathroom being gutted, while I lived in the adjoining bedroom frightened me; i envisioned thick layers of dust over everything from my bed to the front curb. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The crew constructed a dust barrier and covered my bedroom furnishings and carpet and the stairway to the front door; they swept up anything that landed outside of the bathroom. Everyone was respectful of my family's needs, including limiting noise to as few hours as possible, so my son who works third shift could sleep during the day for as long as possible. After demolition, the new shower was built to our specifications with sheet rock, and then tiled with the tile we had ordered. The plumber and electricians worked together to get the vanity area set for the vanity being built by a custom cabinetry company. The new wall where the mirror doors had been gave a more sophisticated look to the room and gave room for hanging towels near the shower. The inside of the closet was repaired and painted, so it was ready for the cabinetry crew to install new closet shelves, drawers, laundry hampers, and rods. The final bathroom task was to tile the floor. What we didn't realize when we ordered the floor tile was that it had a very complicated pattern with eight sizes of tile. In spite of this, the tile layer laid the floor perfectly, even in the nooks and crannies in the water closet. The stairway banister was loosened by a baby pressure gate we had used. The crew re-anchored it better than new, re=sheetrocked it, and painted it to match the rest of the wall. The plumber installed the new grill and built a piping system to replace the propane tank with natural gas for the outdoor fire pit. The electricians removed a useless exterior light on the house and replaced it with a ceiling fan with lights to the adjacent porch ceiling. Then the exterior wall was repaired by other crew members and the stone outdoor kitchen remodeled to accommodate new doors and drawers. An extremely heavy chandelier was installed in the 22-foot high ceiling of our entryway; the electricians worked until 10:00 at night to make sure it was perfect. All of this work was completed to the satisfaction of my very picky husband. We definitely will hire SGM again to complete other remodeling projects.
Description of Work: SGM initially was hired to remodel the master bedroom bathroom. They gutted the room of a shower, tub, vanity, flooring, closet inserts, mirror closet doors, and lighting. They built a large, custom shower, including new shower base, plumbing, corner seat, and tile. A wall was built to form the closet where the mirror closet doors once were; a "barn door" style door was installed. Plumbing, electricity, and lighting were moved in the vanity area to accommodate a longer, custom vanity and linen closet. A custom, limestone tile floor, electrical outlets, and lighting were installed. The work performed was excellent, so we hired the firm to replace another bathroom floor with limestone tile, extend the natural gas line to a fire pit at the rear of the backyard, install a grill and doors into a stone outdoor kitchen, anchor a stairway banister post and repair the wall around it, install new light fixtures throughout the house, and remove an outdoor light on the exterior wall and install a ceiling fan with lights in the adjacent porch area instead.

There were just a couple of little minor dis-communications. The workers that had come were not able to spoke in English so you could not communicate with the guys over there. They were supposed to be here the certain time when they finish it and I guess the materials didn't come in and they didn't call and tell me about 6 hours later they showed to do it. They charge me to put in new plumbing fixtures that I bought and I guess that was fair because it was a plumbing work and the other guys were tile people. The tile is just darker than I wanted and I didn't realize that because it's so hard to tell how darker it would be from a couple pieces of choices that I see. I would say the price was good.

SGM Construction LLC were OK, we had to have to call them back out because the guy just didn't paint like big spots of the ceiling, like he just left big holes and kind of a lot of bleed over and so I called the owner and he sent someone back out to fix it and it was OK. They offered us some knock down work for us and with texturing some walls and done some dry wall repair, definitely the outcome wasn't very good but once they painted over it, it wasn't too bad, the bigger problem was that they kind of had been sharp around it and so when they sprayed, they ended up with all of the tiny new knock down extra on the founding walls as well but we just painted over it and even though now it looks substantially different, and to fix it we had to cut the dry wall out and have them redo it and then we thought it to let it be. They were not my favorite so they just came out and fixed the painting which I appreciated. I would never use them again or would never recommend them but at least that it wasn't a complete disaster.

Salvador Gonzalez, owner of SGM Construction, was completely professional and a real delight to work with. His workers were punctual and worked hard every minute they were here.
