Travis Hudson Daher makes numerous excuses and doesn't show up as scheduled. He did no work on our property after we waited 2 months to start. Very poor commuication. Would never use this company again.
Response from Straight Line Landscape
"We appreciate your review and your continuous feedback. Please refer back to your invoices and signed contract for review, as these should clear up any confusion you might have on the services and fees billed. Even though, you might not agree with Straight Line Landscapes terms and conditions, that we have listed in our company's contract, we have to stay in compliance and treat every contract the same. Although, we try our best to make every client happy, we just cannot do so, by providing special treatment to certain contracts. Furthermore, we have provided you with all the tangible items that you were billed and paid for. Lastly, it is up to you on what you wish to do with the documents provided and we wish you the best of luck going forward."

In the fall, we had the company come out and perform an estimate. They were able to come up with a design that not only incorporated our wants and needs, but was great looking and very functional. They were very prompt on answering e-mails and phone calls in response to our questions. In February, we decided to schedule, and we were told it would take approximately 6 weeks before they could start work. This was expected upfront, as this is a busy season for them. But, we got a call a few days later saying they were available in just a few more days to start work! A highly experienced team was sent out to perform the work, and it took a total of 2 working days, excluding the days they were rained out. As opposed to dreading having to go out back to let the dog out, we now enjoy spending time in our backyard. We have been very happy with the quality of their work, and would recommend this company to others.

I was please overall with the work that was done; we had a few minor issues along the way as you would with any job. The straight line crew that was on-site doing the work were very hardworking. Travis did a good job in supervising the crew and the entire process making sure the job went smooth and was completed on time. When we ran into a minor issue, Travis took care of right away.
Today, grass and trees are doing good and the pavers look great.
Great Job, Holly, Travis and crew!

We met with several designers and picked Straightline because of price and initiall friendliness of the salesman/designer. We were promised that they would be in and out within 3 weeks, max. We signed the contract in early February and were told there would be about a 3-week wait to get started. But were assured again that they would be done in less than three weeks. When they started the project, things progressed quickly, at first. They demo-ed the existing in one day. Made some progress on a retaining wall for the water feature and began laying brick for the fire pit. However, about a week into the project, with nothing but a dirt mess in the back yard, they started not showing up. We made calls to the sales guy who told us they would be there FOR SURE the next day, and they didn't show again and again. Then we were told they couldn't proceed because they were waiting on inspectors for the gas permits. When we checked utlity box for the permits, there was no evidence the permit existed. We finally contacted the turf subcontractor to at least get him going with the measurement since the rough in for the lawn was complete. When he showed up he was stunned. He asked how long our yard had looked like it did, and we told him over 3 weeks. He was floored. He said he had not seen anything like it from this company before. He took the measurements and told us he only needed a few days notice to get us on the schedule for installation once the area was properly prepped. It was sometime around here we heard that Straightline was doing a TLC DIY show and that's why all resources had been pulled from our job. So we contacted them and told them we were really getting tired of the waiting and would like to see some progress. We were then told that there was a back order on the tile for the water feature. Even though, there were six boxes of tile on our back porch that had been there for over a week. More delays...more excuses. In the end they only used the original six boxes of tile because we had discussed with the designer that the water feature looked too tall and he suggested cutting it down, hence, no need for the extra tile. This decision was made in the second week. In MAY (remember we signed the contract in February) they FINALLY finished the project. By August 85% the plants were dead (probably because they planted them in late May and didn't check the irrigation system). In October we got a notice from the City of Phoenix that our electrical permit would expire if it was not finalized within the next 30 days. We contacted Straightline and asked and quot;what's upand quot; they insisted there were no outstanding permits, but could not provide a final inspection report. After two more trips to our house by a straightline worker and two more visits from the inspector, we finally got approval.
The yard looks and quot;okand quot; but after all the hassle, mess, expense and runaround, I would not recommend them.

"Thank you for your feedback on your project. We appreciate when our customers take the time to provide us with extensive comments so we can continue to improve our services. That being said I would like to address some of the points mentioned in your review. It seems the majority of your disappointment with the project was the length of time it took to complete. The first major delay we encountered was directly related to the approval of the gas line permit. Because of the amount of gas required to operate your fire/water feature a request for a special permit was required. We are at the mercy of the city when it comes to them approving our requests for permits. Sometimes the request is processed instantly, other times it takes weeks. It is much like the weather, it is simply out of our control. The other major factor that contributed to the delay in completion was the changes in the design of the project. The custom made pots for the water/fire feature were originally intended to have an unfinished look, this was later changed to a powder-coated finish(which was done at no charge to the customer). As a result the construction of this feature had to be halted while the pots were getting refinished. As you mentioned, the height of the water/fire feature also changed during construction (again, at no cost) as we waited for enough material to complete the job that was originally designed and approved. Without these significant changes in the design the completion of your project would have occurred in a much more timely manner. It is unfortunate to hear that some of your plants didn’t survive. We would have gladly replaced them within the warranty period, for no-charge, had we been advised of the situation. I can assure you that the irrigation system was functioning properly at the time we completed the project. Furthermore, it is necessary to adjust the watering frequency and duration during the high heat of the summer months. We are disappointed that we were not able to surpass your expectations regarding the completion of your project. There were several items that contributed to the delays in your project and we tried to do the best we could considering the circumstances. The DIY Network episodes of Indoors Out, which premier on May 24th and May 31st, actually had nothing to do with the completion of your project. It appears you may have been misinformed by the salesman you worked with, who is no longer representing Straight Line Landscape. And it might be worth mentioning that we did install pavers on the side of the property, as well as additional glass in the firepit, at no additional charge. Should you ever have a need for future work to be completed we would enjoy the opportunity to earn your business back. Thanks again for providing us with this feedback as it is very valuable to us. All the best. ~Straight Line Landscape."

We interviewed eight landscape firms at a recent home show. This list was narrowed to three through a combination of the impression made by the people at the show and reference to Angie’s List. Straight Line Landscape made the list in spite of one poor report on Angie’s list because the designer at the show (Holly) gave us some good suggestions on how to deal with our drainage issues and seemed sincere in her willingness to do whatever it would take to leave us satisfied with the firm’s work.

The decision turned out to be difficult to make. Each of the three firms gave good presentations when they visited our home. Each suggested a slightly different way to accomplish better drainage away from the home but each sounded like it would work. The pricing by the three firms was, after adjustment for differences in drainage solutions, quite similar.

We asked Holly to explain the poor performance report on Angie’s list which she did without attempting to castigate the customer and place all the blame on that individual. The firm also had posted a lengthy response to the disgruntled customer on Angie’s list. Nevertheless, we remained concerned.

The final decision came down to; i) Holly gave us many choices in paver stone and helped us pick a good match for our house’s facade when the other two just said they would match the facade, ii) her solution for the front drainage issue was the most esthetically pleasing and iii) from start to finish she made us fee like our total satisfaction was the only outcome she would accept.

Our choice turned out to be a good one. The job was done quickly and efficiently and to a high standard. The workers checked with us often to make sure that what they were doing was satisfactory to us. The day after completion Holly returned, did a walk around with us and collected the final check.

I will use this firm for any more major landscaping projects that come up.

Didn't go well at all. We had questions and had trouble gettin in touch with the foreman or the salesperson and the workers couldn't seem to get a hold of them either. Finally had to lock the gates to get them to come to talk to us (about the failure to remove old gravel). They did come when planned but initial work took a couple of days longer than planned. However, the water feature was not designed properly and it took them weeks to get that installed and included closing our pool over the 4th of July weekend when we had told them we wanted the pool due to grandkids coming to town. In addition, they substituted smaller pots for the water feature (without consultation or fee reduction) and the redesign made the pot platforms larger. These changes make the feature look out of proportion. The water also doesn't drain from the feature so it gets stagnant.
A bench and the workmanship on the water feature stands (rock cladding) was good.
Didn't like the way they completed the work and payment. They provided you with a plan, with prices for different items but never provided a completed invoice of what they actually provided. Because of this, it minimizes the legal recourse if they and quot;substituteand quot; materials because of the and quot;planand quot; caveats.

I purchased a bank-owned property that had a very neglected landscape. I needed to overhaul the entire landscape to make it something that would fit my needs for now and for the future. I met the Straight Line team at a home and garden show, and was impressed by the photos of their work and how personable they were. I had several companies bid on my project, but Straight Line was the only company that asked a LOT of questions about me and my needs for the backyard space, my lifestyle, and they even wanted to come inside the house to see what my style was like inside to try to carry these themes outside. I was upfront with everyone about my budget, but Straight Line was the only company that produced a comprehensive plan ON BUDGET. Their pricing was very reasonable compared to the others, especially since they were doing a complete overhaul of my landscape, including irrigation and lighting. When they shared their plan with me, they had pictures of each plant so that I knew what to expect. They didn't just tell me to go to a nursery or to do my own research to see what the plants will look like. Their plan included a few common Arizona desert plants, but also some unique plants to fit the look I was going for. Also, I travel extensively, so I needed to schedule in advance the days they would be at my house. They accommodated my schedule, their crew showed up on time and they finished the whole project in 4 days. The only reason it took 4 vs 3 days is because it started raining early on the 3rd day. Travis, the owner, came to my house each day, to ensure everything was ok. When it was time to plant, he was there to place each plant according to the plan, and only had to make a few adjustments. While they were working on my project, the crew worked tirelessly, they cleaned up at the end of each day, and ensured quality in each step of the project. When it was all done, my designer walked through everything with me and compared it to the plan, and it was SPOT ON. Honestly, I was apprehensive that Straight Line was "overpromising" me when they said they would start work and be completed on certain days, and that they would stay on budget. I know way too many horror stories from others who have major projects happen at their home that never get finished on time, are way over budget, or just are not right. With Straight Line, I can honestly say that they did what they said they would do, they did not go over budget, they had a very creative and beautiful design and I highly recommend them. Now, I come home to a very beautiful and peaceful backyard, just like I envisioned. I will be doing more work next year to overhaul the front of my house and I will only use Straight Line. When you use them, ask for Holly for your designer, she is fantastic.

"We appreciate your feedback in regards to your landscaping project. It is pleasing to hear that Holly was able to come up with a design to suit your needs in appearance and maintenance. We like to start with a comprehensive plan prior to construction so we know exactly what the finished product will look like. This allows us to stay on budget and also allows us to be confident in the amount of time it will take for installation. Thanks again for your kind words. If you should need any assistance in the future please do not hesitate to contact us. ~The Straight Line Landscape Team"

My yard was out of control. A true jungle. Since we travel alot, I needed a self maintaining yard that would be a welcome mat, not a "oh no". I requested estimates from 5 companies. I received 4 return calls and ended up with 3 estimates. All the estimates were in the same general price range. The time to do the job ranged from 4-6 weeks to 4 days. Why did I choose this company? Karen (the sales rep) return calls. She's right there making sure all phases of the project goes better than you can expect. They give you a fair estimate. They work out the design with you so you get exactly what you want. They finished before they had promised. 2 1/2 days. They do extra things to make it "perfect". The job was huge. My entire yard was taken out and replaced in 2 1/2 days. They did not come too early and did not stay late. They have a crew of 11 hard working men and a supervisor on site at all times. Karen came to the site everyday to make sure I was getting what I wanted. They follow through with their promises. What's that worth? I have a yard that is picture perfect....lots of color....low maintenance....better than I thought. Call Karen...you will be impressed with her knowledge and follow through. You will not be sorry. Their work is incredible.
