Several months later, I thought it would be good to have similar toilets installed at my house. I called and asked if Christian Brothers would discount the cost if I did all three. The person on the phone said they would send a tech out and I could discuss a discount with him. The next day the tech arrived, I explained how I had recently paid for a pressure assisted toilet at my condo in the $600 range and asked if I could get a similar deal or less. I was under the assumption the dispatcher had pulled the details from our condo transaction and the tech was aware. He was not. He asked what type of toilet it was, resulting in me driving to the condo to get the toilet details. Twenty minutes late, when I came back the tech took the information and suggested I could get my own toilets and he could install them at a discounted price. This seemed promising as it would allow me to find a nice style.
While I went and surfed HomeDepot's website, he wrote up four price options ranging from $1800 to install toilets I provided to $3200 to install their toilets with a new shut off valve and supply line. Keep in mind, if I went to Home Depot and picked up pressure assisted toilets, they are going to cost a minimum of $200 each. This is where it went sideways. I pointed out that all of the options were significantly more expensive than what they had charged me for one toilet and this made no sense. I politely asked the tech to leave as this was just silly. He asked for me to talk to the manager.
The manager said he could do $650/toilet installed, but not a supply line and valve. He wanted another $100 for this. Again, I pointed out that they had done one toilet at my condo for less than this price he was offering, although this was more in the range I had anticipated. I then pointed out that to charge me $100 extra for a valve and supply line (about $10-$15 in parts at Home Depot) for parts that literally screw off and on was silly. The Manager then began a silly explanation about "liability." It was insulting to say the least.
It was at this point I knew the two people I had been dealing with were deceptive. I politely declined. As the tech was leaving, he said, "Its too bad, because I was about to do it for $1,200 total" ($400/toilet). I paused and said, "Well, you should have offered that price in the first place, please go." In all reality, he was full of sh*t. Just one more ploy before he left.
This company came to us very highly recommended and we met with their top service manager, Mike Edwards and then with a service/sales person, Jon Temper and between the 2 of them we were convinced that we were making the correct decision to replace both of our units for top of the line Carrier units. We ran into a bump during install when both units were placed on our roof with wrong models. I didn't pick up on it until the crane had left and called it to the attention of CB. They immediately ceased everything and within 2 hours had the correct units delivered and the crane back and they stayed until 10:30 that evening completing the install. Everyone is capable of making an error but it is how they deal with it and correct it that defines the culture of that company and CB passed with flying colors... They also cleaned our ducts the next day and all personnel involved were outstanding. Install was ramrodded by Ron Miles... very dedicated, knowledgeable.. his asst was Donny Washington who also did yeoman work. Duct cleaning was done by a young man, Aspen Schroeder and assisted by Eric. Very clean job and well done. George Banks came in at the end and tied everything up with his spot on assessments of the issues of wiring the new Wi Fi thermostats and his final quality control. Over all AWESOME job and we highly recommend them for anyone looking to upgrade their AC's. This also showed us how they will be in the future to deal with as we go forward with the maintenance. Thank You ! By the way, the 2-stage units are working as good if not better than you said they would.
They "fixed" the shower and left only for us to discover it was still inoperable. Upon calling them back they accused us of breaking it.
Thank God for Angie's List so dishonest companies like this can be reported.
