I have purchased all of my carpet needs from Kemp's Flooring since 2012. The carpet quality has always been great and the prices affordable. They are prompt in coming out to do the measurements and scheduling installation. I always receive a call letting me know they are on their way and a call the next day asking if all went well. The installers arrive within the time I am given. They install the carpet with professionism and knowledge. I have never had any complaints about the finished product. This was the ninth time I had carpet installed and with each instance Kemp's has given me excellent service. I would use them again and intend to do so. I have 3 more rooms to carpet. I have been so pleased with the service with my carpets that I am considering letting Kemp's do the wood flooring in my kitchen and dining area. My husband does good wood flooring but he tends to be a bit slow.

Very nice folks at their store. Quick response when I later ordered home delivery. Dyed-to-match pieces didn't match and were ragged at the ends. Also, sales person helped me determined which pieces (cross-overs) I'd need and it did not happen that predicted way. I was given an immediate and cheerful refund on that.

Flawlessly installed .
Description of Work: I attended their "once a year" sale. I picked out my carpet and placed an intent order. It took four days before they came out to measure due to high volume of sale. My choice was a special order so it took two more weeks for product arrival. Then it was another week before install. BUT the wait was worth it. We used the time to do all the removal and subfloor prep. Kemps had provided us with instructions and we followed them explicitly. Bryan and Johnny arrived as scheduled and worked quickly and professionally. They had all the tools they needed and took away scraps and even vacuumed when they finished. They offered to leave the larger pieces if I wished. I could not be more satisfied. The carpet is by Shaw and is beautiful.

It couldn't get much easier. I called for a quote so they sent someone out to measure my rooms and stairs. That was quick and easy. Then, I went in and brought home many samples to decide which worked best for me. I was given an estimate at that time based on my sample selections. All information was given up front so I could make an informed decision. Lastly, I went in and placed my order and waited for installation. The staff there was extremely informative as well as polite. Installation: Again, couldn't have been better. Installers, Johnny and Brian, were on time, clean cut, and very professional. They were in and out in a short period of time and their work was perfect, spot on. They cleaned up when done and not a single strand of stray carpet fiber was left behind. I also had a stair nose installed at the top of my staircase and the installer, Jeff, was just as friendly and professional as Johnny and Brian. Kemp's was a great company to work with. Don't look anywhere else. They do a great job from start to finish!

Overall, we got what we wanted. They started on time, and they did a pretty good job of ripping out the existing ceramic floor. They kept the dust to a minimum, although they did track some dust through the house while trying to get the debris out - but it is a very dusty, dirty job, so I thought it was a reasonable amount of mess. They installed the radiant heat and the tile in a day, grout the next day - but when we had the electrician come out to hook it up, he noticed that they had neglected to install the temperature probe under the floor that hooks into the thermostat. Ideally, the electrician had wanted to stop by when the radiant heat was laid down to be sure it was properly hooked up, but the Kemp's guys didn't want to wait for that, so we ended up with the missed temperature probe. However, when we alerted Kemp's to the problem, they promptly sent the crew back out to repair it, and they did it quickly and were very apologetic. Would've been nice to get it all on the first try, but they were very good about fixing the problem, so I would still use them again.

I've used Kemp's many times over the years and always been happy with their work. This time was no exception. The store staff was helpful while I was trying to decide which carpets to order and scheduled the measurement promptly. The carpet was not in stock here but was in stock in Dalton, so they were able to get us on the schedule 6 days after they measured. I had wanted to take advantage of their 12 months same as cash plan with Shaw carpets but my husband didn't know that and gave them a down payment. When I went by the next day and explained what had happened - they were quick to help me sort it out and even went and found his check (which hadn't been sent in for deposit yet as luck would have it) and gave it back to me. I had asked for a call when they were on their way to my house, and received one exactly as expected. They were on time, and professional, and did a great job. I left them to do the work while I went back to my office and as requested they called me when they were about 30 minutes from leaving so I could get home and lock up. All in all a great experience as usual!

We were pleased with the final product and the store personnel who were very helpful in helping us select the tile and the pattern. The installation crew, while they did a good job, was a little unusual. None of the crew spoke English, so we ended up with several of their family members hanging out at our house during the entire job so they could translate if we had any questions. Not exactly the professionalism we expected from Kemp's. Also, one of the crew nearly electrocuted himself because he did not shut off the breaker before tiling around the outlets. Fortunately, the breaker tripped and he wasn't injured. While we would consider using Kemp's in the future, we would certainly shop more options first. At the least, we would request a crew that we could easily communicate with.

We bought a house in '07 and wanted to carpet all 3 bedrooms and living room. The store employees were very nice and professional. The installers came when they were scheduled, and I left them with an empty house to carpet while I was at work. I got a call a couple of hours later from one of them telling me that they were goofing off and had handcuffed themselves together (my father in law is a cop, with several pair of police issued handcuffs). Its a little humorous to hear now, but at the time it was very frustrating to have to leave work earlier than I should have because of adults acting like children.
Description of Work: I had my entire house carpeted. Dealing with Kemp in store was fine. The installers were another issue.

I signed a contract with Kemps in January. The installation was to start in February. The wood was installed first. There were a few issues with the wood install; gaps between boards, etc. Initially I was happy with the wood installation. After the wood was installed, the carpet was installed. The carpet installation went very well and I was happy with it except for one flaw in the living room carpet. I called Kemps and they sent someone out to take a look at the carpet and it was deemed that the carpet was flawed and would be replaced. It took about 6 weeks for the new carpet to be installed. At the time of the carpet installation the carpet installer told Kemps that I would need transition pieces where the carpet meets the wood. I agreed and about a week later the transition pieces were installed using some type of epoxy. The installers needed weights to make sure that the glue would adhere properly. I had to provide the weights (books and dumbbells), it struck me as odd that they would not have the proper equipment to install the transition pieces. I was advised not to walk on the pieces for at least 24 hours. 24 hours later when I did walk on them ALL of the pieces popped right off of the floor. I called Kemps and they sent out two different installers who used a construction adhesive that was not recommended for the application. These installers were sloppy and lazy, they got glue on the brand new carpet and the transition pieces were installed crooked. They used so much adhesive that it oozed out from under the transition pieces. Once again I supplied the weights to hold the pieces to the floor. I was very unhappy and called Kemps again telling them about the mess (glue on carpet, glue on new wood floors, crooked transition pieces). A few days later they sent out a crew and got most of the glue off of the carpet but did nothing to fix the crooked pieces. I told the owner that I was unsatisfied and was advised that the crooked pieces would be fixed. About four weeks passed and I got a call from the owner asking what was left on the job and this was AFTER they had visited the house many times. How many times should a customer have to remind a business about what needs to be done on a job?? The owner then proceeded to tell me that the crooked pieces were not really that crooked. I disagreed and after some "discussion" he agreed to fix them, (yet again). Finally they sent out a competent installer who was able to complete the job properly. Overall I was VERY disappointed with Kemps and will not be using them again. The job took about 4 months to complete from contract signing until all issues were resolved.

I visited the store a few times and found employees to be both friendly and knowledgeable. I also paid Lowes $35 for a quote but was unhappy with how long it took to get the quote and the unreasonable costs (using square footage that was about 25% of the actual space). Kemp's installation was scheduled quickly and professionally done. They also called a week later to make sure that I was happy. Unlike others here, I am very happy with Kemp's and will use them again.

Initially, it went well, until we found out that our builder did not pay them. Despite the fact that Kemps knew that this was an issue, they continued to provide flooring to the company even though they knew that they were not going to get paid. What they did was want us as the home owner to double pay! Kemps put a lien on our home in excess of 10K! They chose to work with an unethical company and continued to work with them. To add insult to injury, the flooring that they installed (hardwood floors - very expensive), started to warp a few years out. When I called about it, they actually remembered the house and gave the excuse that it was the builders fault for it! I agree with the last evaluation. How they are able to stay in business is beyond me. My guess is that because they work with builders (who, in the state of Alabama, can legally build your house and not pay a single subcontractor - it is a civil issue, not a criminal act..), rather than the public. Then, they can hide behind the mask of the builder and not worry about service.
Description of Work: In 2000, we hired Kemps as part of building our home. They were to provide the carpeting, wood flooring, tile, everything for our floors. This was a new house.

Now years later, I am ready to purchase again (another $5000-$6000 in work to the upstairs replacing the carpet they originally installed with a laminate hardwood, carpeting a stair and hall, putting tile in the bathrooms). In the month of September 2008, I have been trying to get the job completed but get the idea they are too busy to want my business. I tried to make a $4000-$6000 purchase. For the work to be done, I had water damage to a bath/hall and went 3 times to pick out new stuff. I paid $25 for the estimate even though requesting $3000-6000 of additional purchases on the estimate over and above the $600-$800 (or so) insurance part. Kemp's was the only estimator/service/sales provider I tried to go to for the work. Over three weeks Kemp's misplaced my information, gave me inconsistent information at different times because they had to re-quote it and each time I called to work with them (as I was home after surgery). They did not call me back when they told me they would. They ignored phone messages left for them on the general voice mailbox (and they really are a small store so someone actually had to make a decision to delete or ignore 3 voicemails). As I was home sick, I could not go down to Kemp's in person. I had to keep calling to get the work completed. When I got a person, I was told they would call me back after finding or putting together my information (this happened three times) but they never did. They are so very polite on the phone but "out of sight, out of mind" in my case. They have lacked a follow through protocol to allow a sales person to service a customer. I should not have to work so hard to spend my money. When I choose to shop small and skip home improvement stores, I am am spending more for the quality customer service. I called again today and got someone completely new -polite and trying to please. Something has just not been clicking in the overall process to-date. I have purchased an estimate. I am done. That is what I got for 3 weeks of shopping. I asked that I get a detailed copy - if the copy does not include measurements that I can use (even just for my own use). I am going to ask for my estimate money back.
Description of Work: About 13 years ago, we had a high grade carpet installed upstairs in all rooms (about 900 sq ft) except baths. That went well. About 4 years ago we had hardwood and a good laminate installed, covering the entire downstairs (about 900 sq ft). That went well until the installers handed me some caulk on the final day of installation since it was raining outside and cold. They told me to caulk the entry ways myself and explained the weather would not allow caulk to set correctly (they should have completed that and did not). Overall - high quality products and gorgeous work when installed - both times and really pretty work; however, I felt really stupid with my tube of caulk standing at my doors trying to get it down properly.

The sales person was very helpful in explaining the different types of flooring and made recommendations based on our needs. We took samples home and decided on a product. After calling to confirm, a sales person came out a measured the floor, giving us a estimate. We agreed and signed the contract to have the floor installed. The sales person also measured our bathrooms and gave estimates on them for future work. A week or so late the installer came out and put the floor in. The install went well and the actual cost was less than the estimate. There was also enough of the tile left over to use (in the future) to cover 2 of our 3 bathrooms if we desire. The price was more than I wanted to pay, but we got a great floor.

I had dealt with salesmen before who were terribly helpful. In my recent experience, they tried and were good natured, but I really didn't get the help I was looking for. They just weren't professional. The work was fine. The product was fine. Even the price wasn't bad. But without the help I need, I'm looking for other companies now. If I was confident of my own research to confirm what they said, then I would hire them again.

One word: fabulous. This is our second experience with Kemps and it was another good one. As expected, the installers know more about the "details" than the sales folks do. Sales people can answer lots of questions, but when it comes to your particular "special case" installation or questions, beg to have one of the installers come out and talk to you at the job site.. Kemps only charged about $70 to take up some 20yr old linoleum in the kitchen (we/homeowners took up the tile ourselves but couldn't get the linoleum up easily), and spent an entire day working on it. QUITE worth the money. (Kemps did NOT change the cost when they realized how difficult a removal this would be) All scraps were left, and some fine details were tweaked by the installers to make for a better transition from old to new flooring. We are yet again very pleased with Kemps sales, installation, and service... (Final price did go up, because not enough quarter-round was estimated for the laminate area)

Very poorly. New floor was 1/2" lower than original resulting in commode not able to contact floor. Commode sewer pipe flange was soldered to copper sewer pipe when house was built. Lowering the soldered flange not possible without strong possibility of setting house on fire. Kemp insisted plumber should lower flange. Plumber refused because of fire hazard. Kemp finally sent original installer to redo entire job. Kemp's instructions to installer would have resulted in floor still being 1/4" too low. Installer ignored Kemp's orders and installed floor correctly second time. Kemp's used all contract labor, and the installer told me while doing a downstairs bathroom floor that it was the first tile job he had ever done.

Installers were wonderful. Showed up on time and worked long, hard hours. Job was done in two days as expected. Installers were courteous and had a good sense of humor. Answered all questions politely. Recommended a different transition strip than the sales person had recommended based on our house and traffic patterns and we've been very happy with the work 8 months later.
Description of Work: We just purchased a home and were going to replace all of the carpet and hardwood areas. Kemp's came out and measured all the rooms to be replaced and gave us a reasonable quote. They also indicated ways that we could save money such as pulling up and re-seating our own toilets and pulling up and disposing of our old flooring. We awarded them the business based on us doing our own removal of existing flooring and toilets and Kemp's putting down new hardwood and carpet with new padding. Total floor covering area was around 1,300 sq ft.
