The service call went perfectly, the technician replaced the failed parts and took the time to tell me how I could upgrade my system both with a side arm hot water heater and external temperature sensor to make the boiler and the very ole hot water heater more efficient year round.

I called Moore Heating and Cooling to fix our plumbing emergencies on two seperate ocassions. We were worried about how much damage would be done because we were unable to detect where it was coming from. However, both Shawn, their great technician, and Torrey, the head of the service department, cleared their days and immediately came to fix both of the issues. From assessing the cause of the leaks to fixing the faulty pipes and cleaning up the mess from the spill, the dedicated professionals at Moore Heating went above and beyond to be sure that all of our needs were met. I can't imagine how much money they saved us by responding so quickly and efficiently.
Description of Work: We have had several unexpected plumbing leaks recently (not installed by Moore) and had water running down the walls of our home. We desperately needed the pipes to be fixed and for our water to be turned back on.

The job was completed in two days with two workers. It was July 2016, and they worked in the confined space (temp was 80 degrees F.) of the attic installing the system for the main living area and then installed the additional system above the bedroom areas. But first they to clear off large amounts of items stored in the bedroom area where the system would be installed. They never asked us to help and every day they would put back any moved items and swept the areas of debris. The first day they worked 8 hours and the second was 12 hours. On 3/16/17 we requested a service call to correct an air leakage from the garage through the cold air return duct--that was completed by another serviceman that afternoon. We were billed $311 for the call but when we discussed the situation with Moore Heating, the total amount was withdrawn. We are senior citizens and this was a tremendous savings to us. We absolutely and unequivocally support and recommend Moore Heating as the best business in Anchorage.
Description of Work: Installed a Lennox air handler with a variable speed blower, MERV 10 air filtration, and a premium efficient Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) system for the main living areas of our home. The HRV is a Venmar EKO with state of the art ECM motors and fully programmable altitude wall control along with a life time warranty on the HRV core. For the back bedrooms and bathrooms, installed an additional premium efficient HRV Venmar EKO having the same specifications as the other system.

Installation of this system was in a 3-bedroom, 2,500 s.f. ranch home that was totally renovated in 2006 from the foundation up. The system had to be installed going through the attic with ductwork and electrical connections completed from the garage area where the main unit was placed to the bedrooms and bathrooms throughout the house. Over a period of two days the 2 installers worked steadily from 8:30 AM to 5 PM the first day and 8 AM to 8 PM the second day. While working in the small, confined space of the attic for 2 days was phenomenal, what impressed us was the extra work they had to do in a household with the occupants present, and dealing with a fully furnished house with some areas not always tidy. We were never asked to move anything yet they had to move many items such as stored blankets, sleeping bags, suitcases, etc., and they were all put back in perfect order. They also had to remove at least 3 rows of 8’ to 10’ metal shelving from the wall in the garage in order to set up the main HRV system. The shelving and all the items on them (they were stuffed full) were neatly put aside in one part of the garage area. What messes that might have been made (I never saw any) were cleaned up and rugs and everything put back. They even had to take everything out of one messy cabinet underneath the bathroom sink in order to install the drain line from the system, yet everything was neatly put back. At the end of the job at 8:00 PM the second day, the installer explained the system and the control settings to us. As an added note, the two days of the installation were during record-breaking heatwave in Anchorage with the temperatures in the unheard of 80’s so they had to work in the confined attic for those days.

The HRV is a Venmar EDO with state of the art ECM motors and a fully programmable altitude wall control along with a life time warranty on the HRV core. Installed systems in the main area (living room, kitchen) also in bedrooms and bathrooms.

I had them install the whole heating system at a house that we rented. It included a boiler, a blower, a garage heater. We had it installed probably 7 years ago and it was about $15,000. I would do it again, and again, and again.

I would do it again and again. Our utility bills went so low.
Description of Work: I used Moore Heating. I had them install the whole heating system in a house that we rented. It is a boiler, blower, and garage heater. It was not just the heating. We inputted a 17 gallon boiler on the manual water heater. We had blower installed and we had a non-combustible system so you did not have to have any ventilation in the garage or anywhere. It really helps to keep the heat in. They also replaced the garage heater. A whole house humidifier was included in that.

Technician came out on Monday because boiler had stopped working over the weekend - looked at boiler and noticed heat exchanger was leaking; told us that it was not worth fixing and likely warranty will cover some cost. He did not seem to be very knowledgable and seemed to have trouble explaining why the boiler stopped working in the first place. He was in the house for maybe 10-15 minutes total and we were billed for 1 hour labor which is reasonable. The technician had to send pictures and contact the boiler manufacturer to obtain warranty coverage the next day - this was also charged a full hour of labor which I think is ridiculous! We were contacted by an estimator to look at our boiler and provide an estimate for the new boiler. He was punctual and professional and we had an estimate the next day. The estimate only had a total price; no itemization to show the cost of the new boiler, labor costs, parts, etc. Given that it had been nearly a week without hot water and they could get it done the same day we approved the cost. The installer called me around 4:30 or 5 pm to let me know they were heading to the house. By the time I was off work at 7 (so less than 3 hours) they were already gone and the boiler was up and running. They gave us a bill for 8565 with no itemization, so I called and asked for an itemized bill. They sent an identical bill with no itemization and when I called to ask for a break down of costs they said they "don't do that." Based on the warranty refund I was able to figure out the boiler cost of $2884 and the install cost of $5681!! The cost of two hours of work plus materials (most of which were already present) was more than twice the cost of the actual boiler! The boiler worked well for hot water but when we turned on the heat a week later, nothing. Another service call to figure out what was wrong. This technician was on time but also did not seem to be very knowledgable. When looking at the boiler he asked me for my manual which I provided. He ended up calling another person to help him figure out what was going on. Turns out that the temperature was set far too low by the installers. An easy fix and since then, the boiler has been working well. Overall, the work was done well and done fast. The price was outrageous in my mind and the fact that they won't provide an itemized invoice helps confirm that there is no basis for the high prices. Update 10/2/15 - The company noticed the review on Angie's list they contacted me again. After asking again they did provide an itemized invoice - it contained broad categories for boiler, labor, material & permit. It was still not as detailed as I was hoping. I contacted the company by phone for a more thorough breakdown of costs which he provided, and he said that they were actually losing money on the job. They did offer to cover next years annual maintenance. Overall they did great work and boiler has been working without incident. Communication is a little lacking and I think they should have more transparency in their fees. They should be able to provide a DETAILED invoice upon completion of a job to eliminate confusion about prices. I understand the explanation given for the price of the job but it still doesn't the fact that I feel it was overpriced.
Description of Work: Looked at an older boiler that stopped working and replaced with a new boiler. Some modifications made to accept different style boiler.

The gentleman that did the proposal was professional and took the time to review the options available to us making sure we understood the process going forward and what exactly they would do for us. The work was performed over two Fridays (our choice). The installers for the furnance showed up exactly when they said they would and went to work. The were very thorough, clean, professional and completed the work in a timely manner. The following week we had the ducts cleaned and again they did an outstanding job. Arrived on time, very clean, polite and generally a pleasure to work with. I will continue to use them going forward for all our service needs.

The technician that came out was professional and courteous at all times. Didn' waste any time getting to work on figuring out what was wrong and then fixing it. Which turned out to simply be a build up in the gas line before at the burner that was blocking the gas flow. Everything was all done within the first half hour that they bill for. Technician also advised of other issues with the water heater but did not pressure me at all on having to complete the work immediately.

On getting my furnaces inspected last fall, I was informed that my downstairs furnace was leaking carbon monoxide and needed replaced. I got proposals from several companies, and was by far the most satisfied with the one from Moore. Their person spent a great deal of time actually examining the circumstances in my home, measuring, and so forth. He then gave me not one but three proposals and carefully went over the advantages and disadvantages of each one, making sure I understood the difference. I found this to be not only friendly but to be of great use to me in my planning. The hot water heater had not failed as yet, but given its age (better than 25 years) and the fact that no maintenance had been done on it in that time, I elected to have it replaced as well. I had its location moved for a variety of reasons related to the floor plan of my home. The gentleman from Moore also very carefully suggested ways (such as getting an energy audit) for me to save money or get a better deal. I did not go with the energy audit out of personal libertarian conviction (the government should not be paying my bills) but I greatly appreciated the work Tom did to give me a good experience. The work was performed over two days at the end of October. The two workmen showed up exactly when they said they would and set about their job quickly and efficiently. Making some of the plumbing connections required some innovation, but no problem caused them trouble for long. They were also very meticulous in cleaning up after themselves (unfortunately not a given with contractors), and carefully explained to me how to use and care for my new expensive machinery. I previously had no experience with this outfit, but I intend to call them for my yearly inspections from now on.
Description of Work: I had the downstairs furnace in my house replaced (I have two furnaces in my home). I also had the hot water heater replaced in a different location. (It is now downstairs instead of upstairs.)

We woke up one morning to our house at a nice chilling 65 degrees. The thermostat was set on 71 degrees. I went to feel our base board heating and they were ice cold!! I called Moore Heating. Within several hours someone was at my house to look at our heat. In just a few minutes the tech realized that a wire had came loose from the unit. Sigh of relief for me that there was nothing major wrong with the heat, but because it was "after hours" I had to pay $250 for a 5 minute job! But on the bright side, we have heat now!! Thank you Moore Heating for your quick response to our problem!!

Given the age of our furnace and some past issues we made the decision to replace it. In the recent past our furnace was serviced by another company whose technician was very rude and spoke in a condescending manner and yet he concluded that we should have them replace our furnace. Sometimes one wonders why these companies think a customer would retain them for further service, since they don?t even know the basics of treating the customer with respect or how to converse in an adult like manner. Anyway, we did some research and contacted Moore Heating, given their very good reputation and we're glad we did, as we couldn?t have been more fortunate and happy with the overall process and install, no less than outstanding! Our initial appointment was when we first meant Tony, he came out to assess our needs with regard to the right furnace for our home. Tony without a doubt is an expert in his field and was very articulate in his explanation of the process to install. He was very patient with our more than likely very common questions, yet he answered as if it was the first time he?d heard them, with complete and very through responses. He treated us with the utmost respect and courtesy. He was very accommodating and even returned to provide further explanations. Tony gave us a step by step process on how the install would start and end and we were even provided the names of the installers. Tony's visit further confirmed we made the right choice with Moore Heating. Regarding the installers Dean, Justin and Danny, none better! They were on time and didn?t waste one minute. They worked so well together and provided an outstanding install. They too were very welling to answer any questions posed to them and didn?t mind that the customer had an interest to watch, very accommodating. They were very respectful and I enjoyed their sense of humor while they worked very very hard. We couldn?t be happier with our new more efficient Lennox furnace and garage heater. Our thanks to Tony, Dean, Justin and Danny and Moore Heating, an outstanding team and a very memorable experience!

I was impressed with the whole team. The representative, Tony, who gave us the bid, explained things in detail and communicated very well. The install took two days. On the first day two technician were on time for the install and got the boiler out and taken away. They had the new boiler in and running to heat the house through the night. The next day they came back and did fine tuning and got the water heater switched over. After the municiple inspection they had to send another technician out to adjust the earthquake straps. Things seemed to be going pretty well until we started noticing a loud sound with the boiler. This wasn't the expansion sounds. We contact Moore heating and they sent out another technician. He listened, and did some tinkering. The sound was still there so he replaced the circulating pump. This helped but the sound remained. We let things settle for a few days and then Moore Heating called us to see how it was going. The next visit they sent the technician, Matt, again along with the originial estimator, Tony, and his supervisor, Rob. The worry that they have is that the sound is a harmonic amplification caused by the shape and configuration of the pipes. The spent more time trying to figure out what was happening. The next action they took was to put a lubricant in to the heating system to try and change the vibrations leading to the harmonics. I've been very impressed with the after service support that Moore heating has given. I think this speak highly of this company. One thing I will say here, if you're thinking about having any work done to update your heating system, investigate the Home Energy Rebate Program from the Alaska House Finance Corporation. This can provide up to 10,000 in reabate for improvements that improve the energy efficiency of you home.

I had my furnace looked at a couple of weeks ago by another outfit and they failed to fix the problem. I researched Moore heating and decided to looked at Angie's List to get a better idea of who would be good. Well I saw that hands down Moore was the best rated. I will admit that I agree. They came as scheduled and fixed the problem right away. Matt explained to me what the problem was and showed me how the previous company did a quick once over. He offered to replace a very inexpensive part while he was there which I did. I highly recommend these guys and will be using them the next time I have a heating issue.

The furnace, when raising the house temp by 5 degrees or more, would cease to fire even though the thermostat was calling for heat. | |I called Central Plumbing prior to booking Moore. The service desk at Central was disinterested, a "take it or leave it" attitude. Specifically, she refused to take notes on the location of the condo within the condo development until I challenged her on the time and transportation fees figured to/from their location. With a one hour minimum charge, any extra time that their driver used finding the condo after the GPS directed them to the development reduced the amount of time used for actual repair. Moore's minimum charges and fees for transportation are a flat rate, plus they were happy to take additional information. | |Moore Heating installed our new heating system about a year ago (that also included a tankless water system). The total cost was about $10,000. They were great! We found a discount from Costco just as they began their work, and they discounted their bottom line, even though they were already the low bid for our work. They've checked with us several times to ensure that the systems are working properly. The one time we received an error message, they returned our call within the hour and offered to send someone out for no cost even though it was a Saturday! As the situation turned out, the system resolved the error message (love the computer circuitry!) so no one had to make the trip. Still, they were willing to come on a Saturday. That's a "thumbs up" in my book!
Description of Work: We last used them for the repair of the fan in the gas fireplace assembly in our daughter's condo. When I initiated the service call, they gave me a date and time block (8:30 am -1 pm). They called 30 minutes prior to their arrival at 9:30 am. Upon inspection, the servicer gave us the cost of repair or replacement, which was about what we expected. They were efficient -- no dawdling, muss or fuss.
