Upon receipt of contract on Saturday, 9/11, we provided 50% down ($1375) and was told it would be completed in 5-7 days. On Monday, 9/13, I came home from work to check on the progress, to find no one there -- just a drop cloth and a paint bucket. No sign of work done. I called the cell # on the business card, and was told they had to stop for lunch after all their hard work (no evidence of any work had been done). They showed up about 30 min later. I left for work, and came home to find they had scraped and painted a section of the front of our garage and a small portion on the front of the house. Jeff Burgess then demanded to have an additional $500 for supplies. I refused, stating that little work had been done, and no evidence of any supplies had been purchased, other than a can of paint. He admitted he spent ALL of the $1375 on his personal bills, and needed money to purchase supplies for the job. I demanded to see receipts for any supplies he had bought for my job, and he stated he had none. He got angry when I refused to give him more money. They called again mid-week 9/15 and requested $100 in cash so they could "borrow" a 40-ft ladder to complete the job, and this would secure that they would return the ladder to the person they were borrowing it from. We agreed to give them $100 with a check, they declined stating they wanted CASH and ended the call. A few hours later his wife Kim Burgess called back and stated they would accept a check. We gave it to them. They did not show up again until the following Saturday, 9/18. He came with 2 men I had never met before, stating the partner he had when I signed the contract had left and would not be back (that partner, Brian Foster is also on our contract). They worked most of the day, scraping and painting some trim on the house; still no evidence of any purchase of gutters or downspouts. At the end of the day, he gave a list of supplies and costs to my husband totaling $637 that he needed to complete the job. My husband wrote him another check for this amount. They have not been back to do any other work. They had been by our house to drop off a couple of ladders, and a small piece of downspout. That is it. Each day we speak with them on the phone, we hear one excuse after another, why they did not show up, with their assurance they will show up "tomorrow". Last week was beautiful weather -- missed chances again to get this work done for us. We feel we have lost our money and this work will not be done. Please DO NOT HIRE these people !
Description of Work: Was hired to scrape, prime, and paint exterior wood trim of home and garage; as well as replace or repair/paint gutters and downspouts of both home and garage.
