Poorly!
Description of Work: Terry seemed very nice when I called to schedule an estimate, but he sent his assitant out to do the inspection. He showed up fairly on time, but didn't seem very interested in actually doing any work for me. He inspected the areas I wanted repaired and told me he would e-mail an estimate. I never received an estimate or a call back.

I supplied all the materials and dumpster for old materials. Terry and his crew supplied all the labor. They did and super job with great attention to detail. They had to remove four layers of old roof, install new sheeting and shingles and drip caps. The labor part cost $1350. Very competitive and completed on time. Very easy to work with.

Windows, doors, siding. It had to be done to specs because I’m in a wheelchair, the bathroom especially. After a short period of time it started leaking. We have called him on numerous occasions, but have not received any return phone call. He said he was a member of Angie's List and I asked if I should call them to ask about his company but he said no, that I should not. Come to find, his company isn't even on Angie's List and he lied to us.
Description of Work: He did remodeling work for us around the entire house.

$93,000

Response from Terry's Remodeling
This was a VA funded $72,000.00 project not a $93,000.00 project as the member states on his complaint. The initial outlay for materials was my responsibility and I took out a loan. The VA had listed certain things to be fixed and anything above their listing was to be reimbursed to me by the the member. As soon as the project began, the extras were being requested by the member starting with the building of the new deck and wheelchair ramp onto the home. The member requested that the concrete steps be removed because he was afraid that animals would move in behind the steps. The VA approved building the deck overtop the existing steps which I was prepared to do. For this extra, I had to rent a tractor and pull the steps out. This action was considered an "extra" to be paid for by the the member. Then, the member decided to hire us regular contractors to put on their log siding. I prepared a bid using the standard pricing for the siding but the member decided that he would buy directly from the log manufacturer. He did so, and when the lumber arrived, I discovered that he bought "seconds" in the log siding and the logs were twisted, making installation harder therefore costing me more time making any profit from that go away. According to the VA contract, certain supplies were to be ordered from Menards, ie., kitchen cabinets, faucets etc. The member decided that they needed special order cabinets and added in a $600 spice rack and a special order range hood. All again under the "extras" caption....again extra time for the "special order" status. According to the VA contract, the drywall was supposed to be patched, but when the wiring was to be installed we found that the wiring was in such dire shape that it was amazing that the home hadn't caught on fire. The members were supposed to hire an electrician at that point, but the person that they did contact wouldn't show up. The member stated that his wife and son would do the rewiring themselves. They didn't attempt the wiring, but again looked to me as part of the "extras" to rewire the home and had me install 3 and 4-way switches as specialty items. Not having ever hooked up these types of switches, I arranged for an electrician to come out and hook up and guess who had to pay for the electrician, you guessed it, not the member. I made a special wheelchair accessible shower for this man and when the VA shower seat didn't work in the shower the best, I put it out there that I could tile him in a bench as an "extra" if he desired. He did and I made a special bench to accomodate his disability. It seemed that anything that the VA gave him money for, he wanted the next step up all the time and special ordered materials....more money in the "extras" and more money out of my pocket to be reimbursed by the member. While working there, he verbally berated by help calling one of my employees a "monkey with a hammer" and refused to let this employee back on the project. He also had a problem with another employee working with me and requested that this person not come back on his property. He had us filmed while we were working so he could review filming at the end of each day "to keep us honest". We also observed at this home that he was dumping his sewage into the Yellow River and contaminating the environment. At the end of the project, the VA and inspectors were satisfied with the project and the it was closed. Upon payment, I presented the "extras" bill to the member. He told me that he would refused to pay the bill and wouldn't sign off on the VA payment to me until I signed off that he owed me these extras. Blackmail to say the least. Also, upon request, the VA sent me the whole contract. Upon review I discovered that the member was in breach of contract by firing my employees. He verbally threatened us and berated us daily and going to work there was hell on earth. The member also states that I had told him that I was a member of Angies List. This is false. At the time of contract, I was employed by Service Magic. If you google my business name, you will notice that I have very good reviews while I used Service Magic as an employment reference. The member also states that he has called me numerous times. Also false, he phoned once and after I was blackmailed, I didn't wish to speak with him. He is complaining about a crack in the bench. The bench is an unpaid for extra and not covered by the VA contract. The VA did contact me about this complaint, and I did answer the complaint directly to the VA. If the member 's basement is backing up, I suggest that he checks into the septic system that is being illegally pumped into the Yellow River. On closing, the member called me last Saturday night and told me that I should disregard the letter that he sent to Angies List because he didn't get to proof read the letter before it was sent out. I am deciding to answer the complaint. I will be doing no further work the member. If anything, I will be pressing legal charges for uncollected payment and slander. Thank you for hearing my side of this complaint. Sincerely, Terry L. Grave,
