Found Millikin through a friend who's family used Millikin years ago to build their family home. I understand now that it was run by the previous owners grandfather then. After vetting Millikin Homes and Mike Millikin we decide to sit down with him. One of the reasons we choose to call him was the reviews on HomeAdvisor.com which were all very good. Mike was very easy to work with and communicate with in the beginning. He made things personal through our similar circumstances with our parents. We decided to go ahead with Mike and we hired him as our general contractor. Our experience went down hill from there...with the flooding of our finished basement after negligence of the mason who didn't seal closed the opening he cut into our existing home after the basement block was finished. It rained very hard that weekend and the rain ran under the plywood and 2X4 and flooded 1/2 of BM. It was eventually taken care of by Mike, but he didn't feel like he or his contractor were responsible. He wanted us to claim on our insurance. He insisted we needed to insure him under our policy. Our policy only insured theft or damage to materials due to tornados or something. We still are unaware if he even carries insurance, so if you consider him ask in advance for his insurance policy and double check that it is still active. I understand that there will be problems, but we hired Mike to be here and make sure things are going accurately. I have not seen him once take the initiative to tell us something isn't right and then take the initiative on his own to make it right. We have had problems every step of the way and we are the ones that had to bring those problems to his attention which then he usually tried to disregard. We have taken videos and pictures every step of the way. We have done walk throughs with Mike and video'd them as we talked things over. For instance we did a walk around our outside of our house to talk about how the finishing should be done regarding windows and siding. The video will show that he always agreed and pacified us, but then didn't follow through on what was promised. There were 2 different siding companies working our our house, and our house clearly shows the the difference when you look at the 2 different jobs. From day one of meeting with Mike and the other 3 contractors which we got bids and vetted, we have always indicated that we wanted our addition to carry over all the same aspects of the original house. Our number one concern was to make sure the addition didn't look like an addition. Well, that isn't the case. Mike installed smaller Windows then our existing, and after investigating we presume that was because the size he used were stock and our original home sizes were custom. We started our process with Mike in November 2015, finally agreed on a plan and price in February (when we signed initial contract and gave a deposit). We were told the addition would most likely be done in June (remember 2015/2016 winter was very mild), but promised no later than August. It is now mid January 2017, and we are still trying to correct many poor workmanship problems. As of 11/25/16 we are using the addition, but haven't used any of the 3 tiled shower areas. The tile job was of very bad quality, and waiting to get that fixed. Many tiles with bellies and chips (Lippage in many areas is 3x the industry standard per a tile rep that Mike brought out.), and where the tile meets the Kohler shower base insert that area was finished off with grout which is all cracking instead of caulk. (And, Mike just wants to caulk over the top of grout, and to us that is a band aid fix and not acceptable.) I don't want any water having a chance to get back behind insert and causing other problems. Especially because the cement board was never prepared properly with tape and red guard. We can't change the fact that we hired Mike, but I would not recommend him at all. He tries to talk you into thinking that the work is quality, but some is and a lot isn't. And, since we were having a lot of on going problems with this build I have called the MBA and received a book of the building standards approved through the MBA. I have learned at this time that Millikin Homes/Mike Millikin is not even a member and hasn't been since 2012. Even though he fraudulently portrayed himself as a member, and used a MBA contract for our job. Beware!
Description of Work: We had a mother in law suite added onto an existing home.
