I called Steve to see if he could help us get rid of the hornets that we had IN OUR HOUSE last fall. My husband and I were thinking that winter would be a good time of year to do this, since the bees aren't active. However, Steve told us that other than sealing the crack where the hornets were coming in, there's not much more that needs to be done this time of year. Fortunately, all of the workers, and hopefully the queen, are all already dead due to the weather, and the existing hive is not likely to be reoccupied. I greatly appreciated the free advice and will be calling Steve in the future if the bees come back!

Steve was great. I called on Friday evening about a flea infestation at our home, he offered to come Saturday but that didn't work for me. He came first thing Monday morning as promised. He was very informative about what he would do and said to call after two weeks if there were still fleas. Thank goodness three weeks later and the fleas are gone!

DO get this overview to prevent insect / creature problems. This inspection does not take a long time and he knew just what to look for. DON'T take the maintenance contract untill you have evaluated what service is essential and compared the service offered by other good companies.
Description of Work: The owner came to my home to do an overview of where pests might be entering. He examined the exterior and interior from the basement to the top floor. He made a written list of what was covered and gave me suggestions about how to make some minor improvements to make my home more secure. He was going to send a follow-up email with detailed recommendations; however, I never received it. Regarding "would you use this provider again?", I answered "no" because I don't think you need more than one overview. He did an excellent overview. My main worry was mice getting into my home when the weather got cold. He suggested locations for the mouse traps and when the mice arrived in mid-Dec. the traps did their job and I got them all. No mice in the traps since then. I did not order the service contract because I do not have any big problems.

Response from 'AAA' Pest Management, LLC
The member mentions not receiving the follow up written detailed recommendations I promised. However, after checking my "sent" folder, I confirmed that I did indeed email it to her on 10-11-2011 at 7:20pm. - promptly after the inspection and consultation was performed. Perhaps her "spam" system discarded it? I resent this follow up detailed information to her in case the member herself accidently placed it in her internet trash, and I also snail-mailed another copy to her home address in case she doesn't get it because of her spam detection. Either way, HER computer issue would explain why she gave my company less than an 'A' for responsiveness here. Also, she explains that the reason she answered "no" for the question, "would you use this service provider again?" is because someone wouldn't need more than one overview. While I agree that only one initial overview is necessary, that's not really what the question was asking. What if the member were to develop a Bald Faced Hornet nest by her front door? Or a Carpenter Ant nest in a wall void. She'd likely have to hire a professional. And, there's plenty of people who have ongoing inspections to proactively look for potential problems BEFORE they gain a foot hold. So a "one-and-done" assessment cannot be assumed. Finally, she cautions about taking a maintenance contract. I would like to assure Angie's List members that no contract is ever pushed. As a matter of fact, my company doesn't even use contracts. While it's a good idea for homeowners to have periodic maintenance inspections by a professional, just as most people have furnace inspections, etc., there is absolutely no pressure to do so, nor any "contract" involved. I'm glad I had this opportunity to make these items perfectly clear. Sincerely, Steve Butler Owner 'AAA' Pest Management, LLC

While having some construction done at my house, the contractor discovered carpenter ants when he pulled off some siding. I had to deal with it quickly so it would not hold up his progress. I called AAA Pest Management the next morning and left a message. My call was returned withing a couple of hours, and Steve came to my house early the next morning. Problem solved. I've used AAA at my home and my office on multiple occasions. They always provide prompt and reasonable service. I will continue to use them in the future.

We hired AAA two years ago when we had first moved into our home because we had centipedes and other spiders. He was very professional initially, but the first application of the green products did not take care of the problem, and his warranty is 6 months. We had him come back about 3 months later and he used per our request the synthetics in the basement and the green products in the living spaces where our two children under 2 years old spend their time. The second time helped but it didn't completely take care of things but it made an impact. We hired him again early this summer and asked him to do the same split treatment (synthetics lower, green upper). We were still seeing problems, so I called him back again and he sounded very annoyed on the phone. He suggested using synthetics everywhere. I agreed and made plans to be out for most of the day and we spent a lot of time putting things away and covering all baby areas. I asked him to not spray a couple of areas on the note we left on the door. (He only offers a 2 hour window for a start time, even for the morning appointment versus an actual appointment time). I received a voicemail AFTER the 'treatment' was finished saying that he had decided to just do all organic because the problem wasn't him it was the 'severe water issues in the basement' (more on this later). When we came home I found his paperwork that said our warranty expired the next day and that 'clients shouldn't restrict areas professional may deem necessary to treat' (He didn't call me or ever tell me this - just wrote it in the note after the fact). The severe water issues he is referring to is a basic sump croc in the basement that has water in it when it rains and one wall that had some water leakage at one time. My husband is a plumber and knows that this is not a severe water problem at all. We felt extremely frustrated to come home to find that in addition to a rather rude note, there was also only 'essential oils' instead of the synthetics that we had agreed to. After covering and putting everything away, as well as planning to be gone for the 2 hour window in which he said he would come as well as the 4 hours post treatment required for the synthetics (so a total of 6 hours), we ended up with something that we both knew hasn't worked at all in the past. And, he ended our warranty so having him come back to do what was initially agreed upon was not possible. Lastly, we usually saw white residue after the green treatments on the ceiling and walls and this time we found none of that and no dead spiders, only live ones which leads us to beleive he did a poor application at best.

Response from 'AAA' Pest Management, LLC
Here is the complete information: After the initial inspection, I talked with the member's wife about the remodeling under way in the basement. She said it's due to a bad water problem and that they're involved in a lawsuit with the previous owners because of the water issues. I mentioned to her that unresolved structural water issues are a large enough concern for ongoing pest problems such as hers (spiders, centipedes, etc.) that insecticidal applications are unlikely to be able to overcome the water problems. She said rectifying the water will not happen anytime soon, so she'd like to go ahead with my service to see if it could at least help. I mentioned more aeration/venting and a vacuuming service would likely be more advantageous than an insecticide treatment, but she was not interested in hearing that. She was insistent on using essential oils, even though I told her that these products don't have the same initial knock-down of pests, and the ongoing residual of the product is not very long. And, if she's going to be adamant about using an insecticide anyway, to try to overcome the easy water availability issue for pests a synthetic material should be applied - as opposed to the essential oils - and not just in the basement, but in each area treated. Time and again the member refused this professional opinion. Each visit she would also restrict areas of service, as opposed to allowing the professional she hired make the determination of which areas need service and which do not (there's no difference in the cost). I do apologize if I sounded annoyed on the telephone at this point, it was difficult trying to get results for this very restrictive customer. As the professional, I decided to use an organic product, as opposed to a synthetic on the last visit due to the customer's past insistence on using "green" products. I felt it was the most prudent thing to do to avoid the customer blaming my treatment for a real or imagined problem. I did not end the warranty as she states here, it expired on its own (6 months after the start of the service). Also, only wettable powders may cause a faint residue, not all green treatments. If the member would have taken my professional opinion in the first place of no insecticidal application at all until AFTER the basement water issues were resolved, and in the mean time fixing the cause of the leakage, increased aeration and the useage of industry-vacuums to physically remove the pests, instead of insisting on her pre-conceived idea, the results she was looking for could have been obtained. As of my last trip to their home, it appears the root cause of her pest issues (water problems) still remain - over 2 years later. Mr. Butler responded to my request call quickly and we set up an appointment in 2 days. He arrived within the 2 hour frame and spent over an hour talking and actively looking over the house inside & out from attic to basement. I had a very small access to the low attic space, which required moving books & shelves. He gave me time to remove the items, while he made notes on the other subjects we discussed, then brought up a ladder to take a closer look. He found (unfortunately) a dead squirrel in a trap that I was not aware of and removed it and reassured me that my visible wiring was protected by a metal tubing. The squirrel problem was not as active as before (they had been physically removed from the area), but he indicated the probable roof entrances and gave me a referral to handymen who did specifically the kind of work I needed. He noted where racoons could enter & recommended a chimney cover and certain overhanging branches removed. He suggested a barrier around the trunks of some nearby pine trees, although I do not think it is necessary now. He made a lot of suggestions about keeping the basement dry, keeping plants away from the foundation and using a sloped layer pea gravel (rather than mulch) close to the foundation. He made a lot of suggestions and told me he'd email them to me, so I wouldn't have to remember (excellent idea!). I had a hornet's nest underground on my lawn, which I wanted to leave alone until dormant, then bury the opening with dirt - I was glad he did not insist that poisoning was necessary - my approach would work fine, he said. I did not need his particular folllow-up pest treatment services, but all in all I feel better informed, have a to-do list to resolve the squirrel problem & potential other problems, and feel reassured that other potential problems are not urgent. It was great to have someone point out that an air-conditioner's maintenance time is due (to keep free of mice-attracting debris) and that the attic insulation was not up to par -- not his job, but I appreciated the tips greatly, not having a handyman's brain myself!
Description of Work: This was an Angie's List special - a Pest Vulnerability Assessment and Consultation. I had had squirrels in the attic in the past, but had not solved the access problem, so wanted advice, work referral and other general assessments of my home's health.

I had caught two mice in traps. Did not have a huge infestation, but wanted to prevent it from becoming one. I contacted AAA. He came on time to appointment, placed the bate in inconspicuous locations, evaluated my property and gave tips on how to seal up openings that mice might be able to enter. Offered to return if after two weeks (estimate of time needed for bate to work) I saw any further "droppings" or other evidence of mice activity. I have not seen any, so I believe the work was done well. He is a bit more expensive then other providers, but worth the extra cost.

Outstanding service! In the spring, big, black ants took over my kitchen. I was at my wits end when I called this company one evening. To my surprise (it was after normal business hours) a friendly man answered the phone and promptly came out the next day. What a relief. He was extremely knowledgable about our problem. The customer service was fantastic and most importantly we got results. I'm writing this review two years after his visit and we have not had that terrible ant problem reoccur. I highly recommend this company.

They captured 1 squirrel. He came everyday for 5 days to check the traps. There were 6 openings where the squirrels were getting in. I was disappointed because they didn't even seal the openings. I was charged $275.00 for 1 squirrel to be captured. The only positive experience I had with them is that when I pointed out the squirrels were back again because the openings were still there, he sent me a list of where the openings were so I could hire someone else to come out and seal them up.

Response from 'AAA' Pest Management, LLC
This is a case of the company getting stuck receiving a bad mark not because of poor work, price or attentiveness, but a customer not paying attention to what the agreement is and what it is not. First of all, 2 squirrels were caught, not one as this customer states. One was caught on the outside of the home the first day after returning to check on the live traps, and the second squirrel was caught on the last day of trapping inside the attic. This was accomplished even though her tenant asked that a trap not be placed in an area likely to catch additional squirrels. Both catches were documented on her invoice. The client mentions she's disappointed because we didn't seal the openings: Before the work started, she was informed that because of the steepness of her snowy roof we would not be able to perform the patchwork. At that time she mentioned that was no problem because her handyman can do it. In fact I met with the handyman and physically showed him the openings and said to seal them on the last day of the trapping service. He told me he'd be happy to take care of it. She was the one to give me the handyman's phone number to set up the meeting to show him where the openings were. At the time she was glad I was meeting with her handyman, and not once mentioned any disappointment. Again, on her invoice prior to the job getting started it was stated that sealing the openings was the client's responsibility in this case. On the last day of trapping I called the handyman and left a message to remind him to now seal the openings immediately because the squirrels have been caught, so as to not allow any new animals into the home. I drove by the property 2 days later and found that the openings were never sealed. A week or so later the client called me saying there's more squirrels in the building because her handyman didn't want to seal the openings because he's afraid of heights! On top of that she asked me to again send her a letter stating where the openings are, which I obliged. She was even inaccurate regarding our charge of $265, not $275 as she stated. Before she paid the $265 she mentioned that she would pay it only after she was completely satisfied with the work. After the 2nd squirrel was captured and the 5 days of service were complete she mailed her check. So of course I assumed she was happy. Apparently until more squirrels came in because her handyman didn't seal the openings as he told both of us he would. I contend that this client's new-found anger is misdirected. She should be upset with her handyman for not telling her he couldn't do the patchwork, and she should be upset with herself for not paying close enough attention to what was being verbally explained and documented in her paperwork. But yet the company has to live with this client's grade for all the world to see. I wish Angies List would look a little further into situations like this so companies wouldn't have to suffer when they so obviously did nothing wrong. I hope most members can weigh a report such as this against my company having received the Angies List Super Service Award for 10 YEARS IN A ROW, and my A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Thank you.

To clarify - I recommended she contract with a *masonry* contractor to seal large gaps which mice were getting through into her basement underneath a low-hanging overhang. This was more than simple patch work that a pest mgmt. firm is qualified to handle. My job here was to ID how they were getting in, and offer assistance in eradicating the mice. She chose to continue trapping mice herself.

The owner?s name is Steve Butler. I called him and he was excellent in talking to me. He said he couldn't do anything for my problem as long as there is no nest. He told me to call him back during the spring if I have the same problem. This time there weren't much of those bees so he hasn't come out. The main thing I liked about this guy is that he was very informative and took a lot of time to listen to my problem over the phone. He answered my questions on my first call.

They came on 09/08 and laid bait and traps. The mice moved up one floor which is pretty common. We called them back on 09/09 and they came back out. He then spotted where they could have come up to the main floor and put a trap there. He also gave good advice as to how to proceed by filling in entry points for the mice. End result, they're gone. This comes with a 6 month warranty where if the rodents return they will come back out for free.

We were getting noises in the attic area, and we thought it might be mice, squirrels, or a bird. Steve came over and was able to narrow down the possibilities by simulating the scratching sounds that we heard. He came by every morning for the whole week to check and reset the traps and ended up coming by a few extra times at no additional charge just to make sure we were satisfied customers. He was prompt, didn't make any messes, and was very professional. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a good pest control experience and will most certainly use him again.
Description of Work: Steve came to the house and helped us determine the cause of the noises and determined the best way to catch the critters. He inspected the inside of the house, outside of the house, and determined that it was most likely one or two squirrels. He set live catch traps in the yard, in the attic, and on the roof in order to catch the squirrels.
