Phil graciously offered to move the birds' nest for us (I know that seems like a little thing, but the other contractors who submitted lower bids for the project did not make the effort to take care of our feathered friends), and then proceeded to complete all the repairs earlier than expected, and with such quality work that rest of our house feels a bit inadequate! We will definitely contact Phil and Fritz for our next project.

We had a tricky home repair involving a family of chickadees who had burrowed behind some rotting wood in our porch overhang. We needed the wood repaired, the eaves troughs replaced, and the birds rehoused.

Phil did snow removal for me and does it for a neighbor on lake shore properties. I explained that all the salt runs directly into the lake and that he doesn't need to use so much. He said he doesn't "expletive" care he doesn't have time to use an applicator or care the has a job to do. He then used a 5 gallon bucket of salt on one small residential property with 40' of sidewalk! The rudeness swearing and lack of concern for the environment caused me to warn you about hiring Phil.

This man confronted me very rudely and condescendingly about my salt use. I simply told him that I have direct orders from my customer, who happens to be an 86 year old man. To apply enough salt to his property so that if there were to be freezing rain after the snow, he would be safe. I applied about 1/3 of a 50lb bag to his driveway, sidewalk and two entry ways, this is by no means "too much salt". I use a 5 gallon bucket to carry my salt but that does not mean I use the entire bucket. I understand his concerns but I am liable for the safety of my client. My client has every right to put as much salt down as he deems necessary for his safety. This man does not have the right to tell people how much salt they can and cant use on their own property. This man is not one of my clients but he is a neighbor of my client. I was nice enough to look after his property while he was on vacation for one week, even though my rout list was full.

Everything about Phill and Fritz were easy which you cannot always say about working with a contractor. Work was fast, quality was excellent, price was fair. Will definitely use them again!

I did not nor would I ever hire this company after their response to me via Angie's List communication platform Shockingly rude and condescending.

I searched for a "handyman" here. Steele came up. As a new and first-time home owner, I am taking on a number of projects and do not always know with whom to inquire. I sent an email via AL to Steele asking what they would charge to change out shower controls in a bathroom. Their response was incredibly rude and condescending. Saying such things as,".... we're not plumbers..... it's unreasonable to believe someone would be available on such short notice....." I was shocked considering they rank so high on Angie's List. It makes me question the legitimacy of their reviews based on this encounter. Eloquence is clearly not a strong area for this company nor is general courtesy or any level of professionalism in communication. Needless to say, as I move room to room with multiple projects (including the addition of two bathrooms and two bedrooms and a basement reno), I will not look for service from this company.

I was timely with my communication and straight to the point, I do not see how that is unprofessional. Your first message was sent to me at 4:29pm (most companies close near this time). To expect someone to come out the next day with less than 12 hours notice and not even putting forth the effort to make a phone call and set up an appointment... is unreasonable. They did great - my tenants were very happy with their professionalism. They did some relatively minor work to a rental home that I own and do not have time to do all repairs myself any longer. They were very courteous and polite. I was using these small jobs to see if they were someone I would want to work with in the future - I have already asked them to replace a damaged window as I was pleased with the initial work.

Service was timely and professional. He had to support the roof over my porch while he took out the rotten post and replaced it. I had picked out a wrap for the post which he put on but then called me to talk about my options because he was not satisfied with the way it turned out. The problem was that the post wrap that I had picked out and purchased wasn't what I had been told it was. We went back to his original idea of how to wrap the post and stain it and everything turned out great. He made sure everything was sealed so no water could get under the post and cause the rotting I had with the first post. I learned I should have listened to him in the first place because he knew what he was talking about from experience. Very satisfied with his work and willingness to work with me. I will keep him in mind for future service.

Steele was hired to level kitchen cabinets for installation of granite counter tops. Upon removal of old counters, it was evident that these cabinets would not support the weight of granite. They removed cabinets and built an internal structure of 2x4's and then replaced the cabinets and leveled. Great job and well done. Even the granite installers commented on the quality of their work. We thought that a few spindles needed to be replaced on a porch railing system, but the whole thing was rotten. They removed old railing and built an entire new system and installed.I like the fact that they gave me pricing options as to materials so I could make the decision on whether I used pine, treated or cedar. Strongly recommend.

The problem turned into a bit of a bigger job than expected and we were under time pressure. Phil and Fritz rearranged their schedule to come to our house and repair the damage during the few days we were in town. It took them several days but they worked hard everyday until the job was done. The removed all moldy material, replaced the insulation, patched and painted the wall and replaced the baseboard molding. It looked like new. And two days after they finished, Phil got married! We couldn't believe he would rearrange his schedule a week before his wedding, but that's just what he did. These two guys are the best. They are not only incredibly talented and skillful at so many things, they are a joy to have around. The are very helpful in making suggestions and providing options. They are always on time, neat and quiet. And they were a joy to have around. I can't say enough good things about them. I wish I could get them to move to our new neighborhood 1000 miles away!

We're selling our home and had accepted an offer. The inspector discovered mold in our basement bedroom along one wall and the potential buyers requested it be repaired. The problem was we were living several states away and couldn't spend a long time back in Madison so repairs needed to be speedy and perfect. A tall order. Phil and Fritz of Handyman Solutions had worked on the house for us months earlier when we were getting it ready for the market. They had done a fantastic job so we hoped they were available.

He does other things besides snow removal. I paid him for two removals, and it was $55 each. I don’t know about the blowing. I imagine he does have a snow blower. I wasn’t here when he did it, so I don’t know what kind of device he had. I think it was probably a snow blower. I've only had him twice. I don’t have anything to dislike about him at all. The quality was excellent. I have a contract with him for the entire winter.

They were on time, did exactly what they said they would do when they said they would do. Totally professional. Totally trustworthy. Product is top quality. A few days after the dog house was placed, I noticed a minor adjustment that needed to be made. Steele Home Repair was there two hours after I contacted them and had it fixed in ten minutes. They will be getting all my handyman work in the future.

Built a giant dog house for me. I breed and show large and giant dogs who are outside most of the time. My previous dog houses have lasted 22 years and were Amish-built. I never thought I'd find anything as good. This was better. Steele Home Repair is top flight. I would hire them for anything. You get what you pay for is true. Except in this case, the price was average; the result was superior.

Phill has been working with me over the last two years. He has taken excellent care of our every need. I can expect quick communication and great work when ever dealing with him. He has been cutting our lawn along with spring and fall clean up, some seeding and mulching, snow removal in the winter and also some repairs that we needed around the house. I would recommend him to anyone that wants care and worry free services. We don't have enough time to make our lawn look the way we want but Phill makes sure that everything is always well cared for. We will be using Steele Home Services for many years to come.

This is the first year I have used Steele Home Repair and Remodeling for snow removal. I was impressed with Phill when he wanted to meet to go over the contract and so I'd know who was plowing me out. They have been prompt and have done and an excellent job of clearing the driveway and sidewalks every time they have been here. He has even come back and cleared out the end of the driveway after the city has gone through. I'll hire them again next year without hesitation.

Terrible, He never bothered with me, no response at all
Description of Work
He was advertising that he did snow plowing for residential property in the area. I live less then a mile from him so that was the reason I picked him. I emailed him and never heard back. . Now it is snowing and I'm shoveling. I am disabled and my mother-in law is living with me. I would have appreciated a call or an email back.

A follow up email or a phone call would have been a reasonable way to try to contact me if you are in need of immediate service rather than a retaliatory review. I do not mean to blow anyone off and one person is not more important than another, but mistakes do happen. To respond in this manor with only sending a single email and putting no effort in trying to contact me by phone, I feel that this review is unnecessary and just an instance of someones emotions getting the best of them

Phil called within ten minutes of my leaving him a message. He arrived at the scheduled time we had agreed upon to provide me with an estimate for snow removal for the winter. He also made suggestions and provided important answers to questions I had not even thought to ask -- such as coming back to clear the driveway from snow after the city trucks had been through. What a great service! Very professional and with his rapid response it didn't take much deciding after meeting with Phil to know that my snow removal worries were going to be a thing of the past. I requested a contract for the 2013/14 winter season.
