She was responsive, eager to work - however, I would simply describe this encounter as annoying and just took too much time, especially given an end result that I was unsatisfied with.
I ended up having to hire a different company to actually complete the work to my satisfaction. This new company was super efficient, understood exactly what I wanted, looked at all the emails and pictures I sent her, tasteful, and provided really impressive diagrams for my painters, stopped by to discuss the plan with the painters, discussed the plan with me in a direct and to the point way, and she cost just a tad more, but didn't request payment until 1 month after the service was completed (I was expecting to pay her immediately, but she just didn't send out the invoice until later).
"I am happy you were able to find the solutions you were seeking. You are correct, my work is not technologically dependent. My work allows me to spend more time hands on with clients in their homes than on the internet. I do not use any pre-determined palettes. I choose colors from samples, usually Benjamin Moore, and take into account lighting, cabinetry, trim, and other finishes as well as the client's own personal furnishings and decor, likes and dislikes. My clients usually get around to saying, "WOW! I love your ideas. I would not have thought to do that... ", but our long distance relationship did not get you to that wow place and I apologize for that. I did work hard to review the numerous photos of your personal belongings, the various palettes you sent me from many different paint companies that showed some of your likes, the list of over 30 colors from multiple paint companies that you had used in the past or that you were familiar with, and made multiple visits to your home before you moved to Madison. Though you wanted me to tell you what you wanted to hear, I did have a contrary opinion about your putting a gray color on the walls where there was a chocolate carpet on the floor and greenish gold in the kitchen and throughout the home. Part of what I do is help people understand how colors work together so that we do not pick colors that clash or do nothing for the overall space. I always take time to listen and to understand what a homeowner wants or is comfortable with. I believe the long distance interaction did not work effectively for us. I work hands on face to face with my clients normally, but not always, but this time it did not work for either of us. I did call and offer to give some follow up design time at no charge once you came into town and that offer holds true to this day."
The only drawback to Mary's services would be that she can sometimes run on her own schedule and run later than she said she would be coming. This is the second project Mary has worked with us on and she has gotten better about calling to say she is running late. I love the results so much that I can overlook this small inconvenience.
Luckily, Mary is both a designer and general contractor. She came up with a great design and then coordinated a great group of sub contractors to carry out the work. The quality of work was top notch. The entire job came in on budget and was completed early.
I am happy to offer Mary and Colorscapes a glowing recommendation. By the way, I am picky by nature.
"It was truly a pleasure providing this service for you and your family. I find the best clients from Angie's List! It was especially fun to meet the challenge and get everything done well before the moving van came driving in and to do those few add-ons you requested within budget. Thank you for taking the time to write a review."
"It has been a pleasure to work with you in such a beautiful home in such a special location. I appreciate your trust of me and my team throughout the many steps in the process of remodeling. I look forward to working with you on any future projects we have been discussing and the chance to complete the updating of your home."
"Thank you so much for providing me the opportunity to work with you. It was a pleasure for me as well. I am so glad all our efforts amounted to your selling your home quickly."
