We hired MO Construct LLC in October, to do a minor to mid-sized remodel on the home we had just purchased, and the remodel was to be complete before we would move in just before Christmas. We consulted for several weeks about the project, before contracts were signed and work began. Initially the relationship started out ok and we thought we had found a good guy who would do a good job for us. Unfortunately, once 90% of the bill had been paid (at the halfway point), things changed. The timeline started slipping, errors and damage began happening, and the attitude of the contractor changed. The contracts were fixed price, not to exceed contracts, and required an approved dually signed change order for adding additional charges. We made every payment the same day he presented an invoice after paying 55% up front of the total contract costs. All add on projects were paid 100% at the time the bid was submitted. During the 9-10 weeks we worked together MO never submitted a single change order, however, on the final bill there were unapproved, unsubstantiated charges and some charges for work the contractor never did at all. When we challenged those charges, he started threatening us with liens, legal action etc. This may still end up in court, as we are not willing to pay duplicate and unapproved charges, or for work he did not even do. As far as quality of work, there were errors and poor quality of work, and MO has refused to stand behind his contract terms, his work, honor his warranty or fix the defects. We have now had to incur added costs to fix the defects left behind. MO then agreed to a compromise on the charges, we sent him the check according to the agreement, he refused it, changed his mind, reversed the credits, then added interest saying we had not paid. I wish Angi would allow pictures, as I could show you better that way… Our shower door and safety grab bar MO installed in our brand new, expensive, custom tiled shower; he installed the grab bar in the path of our brand new frameless glass doors. I had specifically asked him to make sure to move the grab bar over far enough NOT to interfere with the doors. Then there are the custom closet doors, for which we were charged over $1000 with tax. They were all 1.5” – 1.6” too long and he left them uninstalled, maybe he thought we would not notice, we are not sure… When we inquired about this, we were told that was expected, to pay the disputed parts of the bill and he would fix it. I don't see how custom ordered doors in the wrong size is expected, or how an experienced GC would have them finish painted and the hardware installed, if he knew he would have to trim each door from both ends (hollow core, you can only take 1” maximum from each end). Other things like sloppy caulk install on the brand-new double vanity in our master, lighting he installed and left with a short, gave an excuse about the flickering on and off was due to Bluetooth interference? The light/fan is not Bluetooth capable, and when all Bluetooth and internet are turned off, the problem still exists… Overall, we wish we had never been referred to this contractor, and regret that we paid him nearly $38K for the work that he did.
