Doug came as a highly recommended bull dog of an agent that could help me score a better deal than some less experienced agents, boy was that a wrong statement. Doug listed my house for right at market value and expected offers within days but something happened in the market where it sat for a couple months but we finally got a bite. I had found a few homes I was interested in and Doug had plenty of knowledge of the areas including historical information that was useful in making decisions. I finally found a home I wanted to make an offer on and our offer was accepted and that is where things got messy. Through the negotiations of the purchase I was told that the wife of the selling party was being difficult and refusing to cooperate, I was told she didn’t want to take responsibility of any of the repairs, but the husband was just wanting to get it over with. Finally, we reached an agreement and the inspector that Doug recommended came out and passed nearly everything except for the gas cooktop and a few minor repairs that the sellers agreed to fix/replace minus the cooktop. I had requested a furnace inspection be done prior to closing and Doug promised multiple times that he would get it taken care of and also promised he would make sure all the other issues were resolved. As closing time approached he was traveling to Florida for personal reasons but kept in contact assuring me everything would be taken care of and promised a few days in between closing of my house and closing of my purchase to allow time to move. Doug again promised that the issues would all be addressed, and he would get the furnace inspection report from the sellers, he also promised to pay for a cleaning crew to go in before moving to ensure that I was moving into a clean home. Upon closing I still had no furnace inspection and my time frame had been cut down to having to be out of my house the same day I got the keys to my new home. I asked Doug multiple times about the cleaning crew that he had promised and at first I was told he had not scheduled it yet but it was going to happen, then I was told that because he had to lower his commission (Keep in mind he got commission off the sale and purchase of my home and the purchase of my new home) that he was not going to pay for a cleaning crew. Upon getting the keys I was faced with a filthy home that required literally weeks of cleaning, the entire inside of the home needed the carpet replaced due to animal urine, the walls needed repainted due to urine dripping down the walls, the cabinets were literally coated in filth words can not even describe how bad this house was I filled the vacuum 3 times just cleaning out the kitchen cabinets. Nothing that was supposed to be fixed was ever completed. I knew the house needed some TLC but never imagined it to be this much of a disaster then to have his promise of a cleaning crew canceled was a bigger hit. I will also mention I spent hours cleaning my previous home to the point the buyers did not need the cleaning crew to come in. Anyhow, after moving in I turned up the furnace only to find that it was making horrible noises I spent the next 1+ months trying to get the furnace inspection from Doug, and was given the excuse that it wasn’t the wife that was holding up this process after all it was the husband that was to blame. I called out a furnace company and they gave me a quote to repair the furnace for over $900 but suggested I replace the furnace, I agreed to ask the seller for the $900 to repair it and I would front the bill for the balance of a new furnace as I felt it was my choice to replace it rather than repair it. Unfortunately, it was too cold outside to test the AC unit. The seller proceeded to send my quote to another company and they sent it back suggesting they can repair it for half of the cost and Doug’s response was to simply take the cash and be done with it. I objected to this and eventually got the $900 from the seller only to later find out (when the weather got warmer) that the entire AC unit is completely shot and needs replaced along with the furnace. I had multiple email conversations with Doug asking him to get this resolved and nothing ever came of it, at one point I asked him why it felt like my realtor was working for sellers best interest and not mine and asked where is the realtor I paid to work for me, that is when all communication died and I have not heard a word from him since. But since then I personally reached out to the seller and we had a conversation about the transaction, that’s when I was told by them that they were told a completely different story, that I was the one being vindictive and trying to back them into a corner, that I didn’t want to have any communications with the husband because he was cocky and had something that offended me (however I had only said 3 words to him through the entire transaction) and I was told they were not asked for a furnace inspection to be done until well after closing. To this date I still have not heard a word from Doug, he cased in at my expense and had no intentions of fulfilling his promises. I closed on my house in December thinking I got a good deal on a nice home, so far this house has cost me $25,000 and counting out of pocket just so I can move in all of this could have been and should have been either taken care of before closing or negotiated in the purchase price, it is now April and all of my personal belongings as still in boxes in the garage and I am just now starting to unpack. Doug is like a used car salesman he will tell you whatever you want to hear to get the sale but afterwards you find out it was all smoke and mirrors and he will abandon you at the first sign of an issue.
