 + -1 moreI'm not complaining about the work done. By and large, things were accomplished. However, the cost structure surprised me. I didn't ask the rates ahead of time, but found that the cost was $85 for 1st half hour, then charged by every 15 mins. This includes the 20 minutes the plumber spent writing up the ticket. So I probably paid another $50 for writing up the bill! Also, they charge for every little extra piece of their items used (ie. drop cloth charges, $5 to customer, putty, etc). They used a small hand snake to loosen up the tub drain. Well that cost me $15 in addition to the labor charge for that time. When I called to complain, particularly about the time spent writing the bill, they did not accommodate me. Also, at least twice in this experience, I've scheduled them for a date and time, and then they have it recorded as a different day. If it had happened once, I would have assumed it was my fault, but twice, there's something not right there.
Description of Work: A variety of slow drains, installation of new faucets, small leak on kitchen faucet.

 + -1 morePlumbers arrived within the time window they had given us. Both the hose bib and the gas line were challenging because we live in an older home with a finished basement. The work was done efficiently and professionally.
Description of Work: Three separate visits, three tasks: First visit - check for water supply to refrigerator ice maker and install hose bib at front of house. Second visit - run gas line to dryer in laundry. Third visit - complete the installation of gas line after the city had inspected and approved the installation.

 + -1 moreThe guy they sent was great. When the radiant heat floors were found to leak, he recommended a company that could help design heat into our home. He was clean, professional, polite and efficient. And our dog loved him. D&F plumbing re-did the plumbing in my 1923 Bungalow, and they were great then, too. I won't use another plumbing company. This one has never let me down.
Description of Work: D&F sent out one of the specialists to test our radiant heat floors. He was thorough, and found leaks, which saved us from an expensive installation that would not have worked the way we wanted.

 + -1 moreMark was early for the appointment, which was wonderful! He was very knowledgeable and polite. I was so impressed that I booked them again in November when we have new kitchen countertops put in and have to have the plumbing taken care of.
Description of Work: The floor pipe below the toilet was rusted. Mark repaired the pipe and installed a new flange with a extension for the new flooring we had put in.

Jesse, the plumber, was very knowledgeable and gave advice that has saved us from an expensive demolition and re-installation of our antique pedestal sink. He also adjusted our toilet, which was one of the 2 reasons I called them. I was not impressed with the interface with the D&F office/dispatcher, but Jesse the plumber was excellent.

water heater repair
 + -1 moreI got honesty, discussion, alternatives, and respect. The person who answered the phone (Sandy?) started asking me to describe the water heater in question. She did not immediately send out a sales person or plumber to quote me. She actually started asking detailed question that I could (with flashlight and eyeglasses), in fact, answer. I was more amazed. Then I got the most refreshing response to my frustration. Sandy was able to explain at least what other approach is available, and that helped me realize that I wasn't crazy, just that I was being pressured. Afterall, I almost got sold $4000+ worth of work/product and, get this, I don't have a problem!!! The other plumbing company sold me on the fact that I did. I am so glad for Angie's List!

 + -1 moreOur flush tank was broken, so they ordered a part to fix it. They did a fine job with the toilet. However, they were an hour and twenty minutes late. They had a delivery charge of $49.00 and they also have a $10.00 gas fee. I don't understand why there is a delivery charge on top of a gas fee?

 + -1 moreIf you want the very best in professional work for your plumbing, I do recommend D&F. I did have a worker cause some water damage to a Persian rug that I discovered on my own, but otherwise, they were just wonderful. The scheduling was tough since they are down a person this summer, but I found if you call when they are open (don't leave messages) they are very responsive. Good quality of work. Joe is a wonderful guy! The price was really expensive, but I am paying for peace of mind.
Description of Work: I had the basement pipes replaced, a new laundry sink/faucet installed, new water line from street, new sink in kitchen hooked up and faucet installed. Icemaker line for fridge installed and dishwasher, refrigerator re-attached after tile work was complete.

 + 0 moreThe plumber, I think his name was Ron (?), was 10 minutes early. He was very polite, nice-looking and clean, did his work in a quiet and professional manner, cleaned up afer himself well. As for price, I'm not sure how it rates compared with other companies because I haven't had plumbing done for years. However, I have called a number of companies to get a bid on a new water heater and found that they are about average or slightly higher.
Description of Work: Installed new bathroom sink faucet, new drain plug, new pipes beneath sink, new shut-off valves for that sink. He also checked the main shut-off valve under the house, which didn't work properly a few years ago. But this time it worked fine. He also looked at my aging water heater and gave me an estimate on a new one.

 + 0 moreOn time, professional, nice, made several suggestions. Work was completed within 30 minutes. They had to reschedule the day before as a job ran over, but they were full of apologizes and were very accommodating to the new time/date.
Description of Work: Our existing gas fireplace never put out much heat. So we had it capped off so we could use to burn wood instead. Gas pipe was capped in the basement, pipe coming up through floor and into the fireplace removed.

 + -1 moreHorrible. They were 2 hours late. The man who came was not focused at all, and just told me it could not be fixed. He looked in the wrong area of the leak. Then he told me the entire shower would need to be redone, but gave no reason behind it. He was at my home for about 20 minutes, and was on the phone with another client for 10 minutes. Then told me I owed $85.00 for the service call. He did nothing, and again, did not even look at the place the pipe was leaking.
Description of Work: I have a shower/tub that is leaking into the basement when I shower. I called to have it repaired.

Had me worried when he said the existing toilet was 10 inches and the one I bought was 12 inches but he managed to make it fit. He also took the time to chisel away part of the granite countertop that was interfering with the clearance of the faucet. (that was the reason the old faucet was such a poor fit) He cleaned up all of his mess and did an excellent job. I'm very satisfied with their work and will call them again.

 + -1 moreThis was the second plumbing company I called for a service call, and my experience was much better than with the first company. Sandy was friendly and helpful on the phone. I called with a tiny repair, and the first company didn't seem to want the job since it was so small. The water leak was small and not an emergency. D & F was able to come out in just 3 days. We were a little embarrassed to call in such a small job, but with no plumbing experience, we were intimidated to try and fix it ourselves. Jim (the technician) was very nice and fixed up the leak in just a few moments. Though the job was tiny, Jim and Sandy both handled us professionally and assured us that no job was too small. We will keep them at the top of our list for any future plumbing jobs!!!
Description of Work: There was a supply line leak at the back of the toilet. The line feeding into the toilet started leaking.

I showed him the work I wanted done, and he clearly explained what he was going to do, and how long it might take. He also offered solutions for other plumbing projects I had.
Description of Work: Re-routed a water line into floor jousts using flexible pipe (holes were drilled already), replaced outside faucet with freeze-proof one, and fixed bathroom faucet that was not installed correctly.
