 + -1 moreCalled D & F plumbing requesting an estimate on installing a water softener. Explaining to them this would be a new install not a replacement. They fired off a figure of about $2000. I ask them if they would come to my house and provide me with an estimate. The response was sure for about $80 and they apply that to the job if they got it. I said no thanks

Description of Work: I have had D&F do small plumbing jobs for me for years and the always had completed the job well and been very professonal. I called and requested a bid on a much larger job, replacing the main water piping from the meter to the house. I was to meet "Vince" at my house at 4pm. At 5 I called the company and was told "oh, the appointment was for today or tomorrow some time." I reminded the /d/&/f person on the phone I had made an appointment as I had to take time off from work. He then said "oh yea" well he's in the area he should be there in just a few minutes and I would have my bid by e-mail this evening or the next day. At approximately 6:30p.m. I called the business number again and left them a message telling them to forget about the bid. No one called back to say they weren't coming or they were sorry for the lost time not a word. I certainly won't use them again for anything.

 + -1 moreFirst off, we got scheduled for the next day after we called D & F, which was fine. We were given a time of 11 AM. However, the plumber was running 45 minutes late. The company did call to notify us of the lateness. We thought we would have to replace several pipes to our upstairs bathroom to fix it. David Martin, the D & F plumber, looked at our entire system and found a less expensive way to fix the problem, which was to snake through the pipes to clear them, then a suggestion that we replace entire system when we complete a planned kitchen remodel. At the time there was no guarantee that this would work, but we tried it anyway. Lo & behold, it worked like a charm and we have not had a problem since! David was thorough, professional and knowledgeable about old houses, which ours is. After completing the work, he honored an online coupon we had to examine our entire plumbing system at no charge. He was quite thorough in his notes and he told us what was most critical and which could be deferred. We were quite happy with his service and friendliness. We have used this company before and will surely use it again!
Description of Work: We had a blocked upstairs tub and sink drain that caused water to overflow through corroded pipes down into our kitchen.

 + -1 moreThey were excellent. They were on time. There was a leak once enough to flood the cabinets, I called them and they came in within an hour. It was fantastic how fast they were. Everything worked fine and we have never had any problems since them. We are very pleased with them.

 + -1 moreCould not find the leak, was unable to locate our shut off valve and they recomended we run a new line from the street to our home and install a shut off valve. Estimate for their recomended service was approximately $5,000. As a result we called a locator service that cost us $300. They found the shut off valve immediately which was where the leak was. We had another plumber out that said there was no way a home that was less than 20 years old would not have a shut off valve and completed the repairs.

 + -1 morePlumber showed up as scheduled and got to work in the bathroom. His pipe snake broke off in the pipe, but at a point where he could retrieve it, so no big deal. Pulled several big hair chunks out of the pipe. My shower drains fine now. The cost was a bit much, but I like the results.

 + -1 moreThey installed an awkward roof hydrant for my roof deck. Joe was prompt and worked hard to properly install the hydrant threw a lower room up to my deck. Joe was not able to check for leaks at the time because the water was not available. Once on we discovered a leak. He missed the return time and I was irritated but there was a valid explanation. He was prompt the next morning. Joe was very creative in the leak repair and in doing it in a way to avoid making a mess. He was careful to clean up all water and mess. It works extremely well now.

 + -1 moreWhen I called for an appointment, I asked for one first thing in the morning, and they were able to give me one at 7:30am in just a few days. The plumber showed up right on time. The pipes inside are in the unfinished basement, between the floor joists, so they are relatively easy to get to. The pipe on one side was crowded in with pipes to a bathtub. It took him a little over an hour, so the labor came to $176. The parts (two sets of valves and drains) came to $50.
Description of Work: I have two outside hose bibs, and was worried that they might freeze and crack the pipe in the winter. I wanted to be able to shut off the water them, and drain the water out of the lines to the outside. This obviously wasn't a rush. I didn't ask for an estimate.

 + -1 moreThe first time he came to try and diagnose the problem with one of our toilets, and it turned out not to be what we thought it was. He was very efficient, informative, helpful, and he knew what he was doing. My only complaint was he forgot his appointment with us and I had to give him a phone call. The plumber was great, but the office needs improvement with scheduling appointments. The second time he came out, he was on time, and fixed the toilet promptly. He also offered us a favorable deal for replacing our dying toilet. When we do replace the dying toilet we will give them a call and have them complete the job.

 + -1 moreIt went very well. I found a water leak in the a.m., phoned another company who sent out a nice guy who said it was beyond his skill and found this company for me. Mr. Huey was at my house in about 30 minutes, helped me dig out the bush a previous owner had planted over the turnoff valves and the water main. He showed me why it leaked and repaired it rather quickly once the bush was gone. I thought he was a very nice guy and would hire him again.
Description of Work: Helped dig out a bush, located the main water pipe, removed cracked pipe (bent too far by previous plumber abt 3 - 4 yrs ago), replaced old pipe w/ new flexible pipe. Cleaned up well.

 + 0 moreThe project went well. Vladimir showed up on schedule and worked extremely hard on the initial plumbing and gas line. He was personable and very professional. I had a problem in scheduling the return visit to connect everything after the sink, cabinets, and counter were installed. I changed the original visit date, but they showed up on the first date. When they called, I explained that I had changed the schedule with them to another day. They made a note of it, but when the day arrived, they were not there. I called and they had no record of the scheduled visit. They did, however, manage to re-arrange their schedule and get someone out to do the work the next day. It was ultimately completed to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: As part of a kitchen remodel project, we moved the sink and installed a new gas stove. They did all the plumbing for the new sink, dishwasher, garbage disposal, and instant hot water. They also installed a new gas line for the stove.

The company did not schedule him for another job that day, so Joe had time to replace the kitchen faucet as well as replacing the garbage disposal. I was extremely pleased with his demeanor and attention to detail.

 + -1 moreI got tired of dealing with them and the inspector that they should have been helping me deal with. I have used them before and they were great, that is why it was so frustrating that they did not take care of me.
Description of Work: I had my outside plumbing upgraded to increase water pressure. When they finished, an inspector came out to make sure it passed code. The first inspection did not pass, and D & F did not have a representative there to answer questions. We had to get them back out. It felt cold-blooded the way they took my money and did not follow up to make sure the work was OK. They made me look like a fool to the inspector.

 + -1 morePlumber came out when agreed to, was prompt, gave estimate of $500 for re-plumbing the shower. I had removed tile & green board myself prior to work beginning. The work was done well, but came in a bit high in cost @ $620.00. Plumber cleaned up nicely after himself. My only complaint is that he removed a little extra tile on a separate wall that I can't imagine why it needed to be removed, other than that a good job was done.
Description of Work: Tile falling off wall in shower/bath. Pipes behind wall leaking, needed to be re-plumbed.

 + -1 moreWe repeatedly got invoices for work that was not quite complete, and their policy is to begin charging interest on the amount due one week after the invoice is sent out - so even if the work had been complete, they barely give you enough time to get a check in the mail. We wasted a lot of time arguing to have interest charges removed on invoices for work that was not yet complete. They improperly installed two 2nd floor toilets, which leaked into the framing - fortunately we caught it early because the electrician noticed one of the lights in the kitchen was shorting and opened up the wall. They have been dragging their feet regarding reimbursing us for the damage, but continue to send us invoices accruing interest on the final payment, which we have repeatedly told them we are holding until the damage issue is resolved. Their bad service and poor work quality just added a lot of unnecessary time and stress to our project.
Description of Work: This was a new construction project in north Portland (just a few blocks from them) and they did all of the rough-in and finish plumbing.

 + -1 moreI explained my schedule to the dispatcher before setting up the original appointment and was assured that the estimator would be able to make it after standard business hours (the company is located less than a mile from my house). The appointment was scheduled at 5:15 pm. However, no one showed. I called and left a message that evening. The next morning, no return phone call. I called again, and asked the dispatcher if I had the time wrong; the dispatcher said I had it correct. When I asked why no one showed up, he explained that the company doesn't give estimates after 5 pm. I asked why no one returned my phone call; same answer.
