We had a handyman do some work for us and the texturing job was atrocious, so we called Jack's Evergreen as they had done some work for us previously to come in and repair the work. Mike Bloom came out and did a fantastic job, removing the botched job (we made it more difficult as we had painted the walls already), and matching the existing texture. We are grateful to Mike.

It was great. I had to buy my own paint. I remembered I had to pay about $40 extra and that's about it. I think they were extra attentive and went over the top in terms of cleaning and taking care of the place and even noticing that the outside of my house really needed to be repainted.

Everything was okay. They were okay. I had to call several times to get the response and they responded and they assigned a person to do the work and I think they worked longer than what I expected for the job. The price is medium-high.

Our designer recommended another painter but I felt strongly that I wanted to get my own competitive price so I searched Angie's List and found Jack's Evergreen Painting. Our salesman Mike was excellent to work with. He was prompt and was able to leave a detailed, written quote for the work before he left (it took the other company a week - but it was over the holidays). After final colors were chosen we decided to go with Jack's and they had painters onsite within a few days. Mike was our point of contact throughout the process. He was flexible and fairly priced some changes we made (changed from flat to eggshell after some paint was already purchased, added several closet interiors, repaired some base molding). We even had the entire garage painted. It's hard to say how much cheaper Jack's was because they included more in their bid than the other guys (like the backside of all 20 closet doors). Our final price of $18,000 I thought was very fair considering we used 10 colors and the sheer amount of the millwork that was painted. All the workers were expert painters and were always hard at work - even on the weekends. They masked off everything properly. They removed all the doors, stripped the hardware, carefully sanded and then sprayed them. The doors all look great - front and back. The masking work done to protect the wood finish from paint at the stairwell was quite impressive. All the trim was sanded and prepped prior to spraying. Next was ceilings and then walls. Some of the ceilings are 18' up and have light fixtures in the way but they worked around all of this without a problem. They patched and textured holes as needed and cleaned up as they went. At the end of the project they completely cleaned up everything and even vacuumed the carpets. I thought that everyone on the team was focused, ethical and had our best interests at heart. The final product is nothing short of spectacular. No surprises, no compromises - just professional painters delivering a quality job in a timely manner for a competitive price. The general manger and owner visited a couple times to ensure everything was going well; but ultimately it was our salesman Mike that kept the job running so smoothly. He and his team did such a great job that I gave them each a well deserved tip when they were done. Great Job! I highly recommend Jack's Evergreen Painting. I plan on using them again when I have the exterior of the house painted.
Description of Work: Painted all interior surfaces of our newly purchased house. 3800 SF with 10' ceilings. They painted all the trim, the doors, ceilings and walls. House was empty so somewhat easier than an occupied house.

I paid more than the big deal, because I used more hours than on the big deal. They are good but they are slow. He could have done the work quicker. They were charging per hour, and he took the whole day to do just one bedroom. I asked him how long it would take to do one bedroom, and they said it would take 3 hours per bedroom, but they took 6 hours to do one, and then a half day to do the other one. I don't know about the quality of work, because the wall got cracked after a few days.

I called Jacks Ever Green Painting and received a call back the same day. They were able to come the next day (which was actually Christmas Eve) where Andrey provided the bid. I was tempted to "bid shop" but once I told the quote to a few friends they said it was a great price. I called to accept the bid & surprisingly they were able to start work in just a few days. The crew that showed up - Ramos and Primo- both seemed super nice and got right to work. During the beginning of the job I was alerted by Andrey that the crew was concerned that the paint purchased was not matching the color swatch card I had picked. I went right over to the house- and fully agreed that the color did not look right. After placing a call to Andrey and expressing my concern he said they would fix the issue and purchased new paint. Everything looks great now and I was so surprised by how much work 2 guys knocked out in 1 1/2 days! While money is very tight because we just purchased our house, I feel this was money very well spent. I even had them bid to finish painting our downstairs.

I hired Jack to paint the interior of my house, in anticipation of selling it. He knew this; he met the realtor that I was interviewing and later referenced her desire to have the interior painted. After hiring Jack, here is a summary of the experience I had with him and his workers: * On the first day of painting, Jack?s foreman asked me to turn the thermostat up to 68 degrees. Then, he and his workers: - Left doors and windows open for long periods of time, e.g. one to two hours. I have sensors on all my doors and windows, so I know exactly how long each was left open. Maybe the windows needed to be open for ventilation. In that case, why ask me to turn up the heat? - Left a window fully open overnight. When I called the foreman to say that a sensor was indicating this, he denied that anything had been left open and suggested the sensor was faulty. The next morning, I was the first one in the house, and I confirmed that a window had been left wide open all night. * My electric bill went up $40 for the period during which Jack painted my house (see above), even though the house remained empty during that time. * Jack?s crew damaged a folding, closet door in my house, and Jack refused point-blank to take responsibility for it. Jack blamed it on ?the cold? and said I?d been keeping my thermostat too low. That?s funny, because the house had been at that temperature for two months. Two days before Jack started, the movers had opened and closed that same folding door many times; I witnessed it myself and so did others. The day before the painting started, I used that door, so I know that it was fine. But when Jack?s workers got there, the cold suddenly broke the door. * Jack blamed me for any miscommunication because I insisted on discussing issues via e-mail instead of via phone calls. However, Jack didn?t seem to have an issue when I hired him, arranged to get the quote, or arranged the painting date via e-mail. * They left a religious pamphlet in my bathroom (!) * They took down my thermal curtains, which are not inexpensive, wadded them up into a large ball, and put them out in the garage, on top of a dirty kitty litter mat. Prior to that, I had taken down the curtains that I thought would be in their way. If they?d asked, I would have gladly taken down all of them. * They completely turned off water to my house at the main, and then denied it. Only when I pressed the foreman on the issue did he finally admit that someone on his crew had done it. He gave me some far-fetched, nonsensical excuse. * There are drips and mistakes everywhere in the house: window frames, the floor, closet doors, the new thermostat, alarm sensors, you name it. A professional handyman said that some of the drips will require a sander to remove. * When reviewing the work, I pointed to some of the mistakes. When I showed Jack the front door, which had not been painted but had paint marks, his response was, ?You should have had me paint the front door.? Really?!!? When Jack did the quote, I didn?t tell him what needed to be painted. Instead, I left that to his professional judgment. So why wasn?t the front door on the quote, if it should have been painted? It was clear that Jack wouldn?t take responsibility for the poor quote or sloppy work. He fixed a few of the more minor issues we brought up, but he dismissed the rest. * In a similar vein, Jack?s crew didn?t paint any baseboards that had already been painted, even when those baseboards were heavily scuffed and marked. His response was that the quote didn?t cover it. What kind of professional painter thinks it?s OK to paint interior walls, ceilings, trim, etc., but leave marked-up baseboards unpainted? * Before the painting occurred, I was concerned about several issues. I suggested canceling the scheduled painting, so that I could make a detailed list of what I wanted, and Jack could rebid. When Jack balked at that, I asked him for assurance that, ?1) everything will match and 2) everything will look good and professional?. Jack gave me that assurance, with one exception for one spot. However, Jack fulfilled neither, in my opinion. Scuffed up baseboards certainly don?t match freshly-painted ones, and drips and mistakes don?t look professional. * I had to hire someone to come in and fix the job that Jack did. This person, a professional handyman who had worked for us before, was astonished at the poor job that was done on the interior paint. He asked for the company?s name, so that he would be sure to never use or recommend them. * Every time I go into the house, I see something else that Jack and his crew messed up. I see paint where it shouldn?t be, something that was listed on the quote but wasn?t done, and poor, shoddy work. I see my money down the drain, and I see more money that I?m having to pay to get things corrected. It ruins my whole day. Save yourself the heartache and hire someone else. I wish I had.

Response from Jack's Ever Green Painting
First off, I would like to start of by saying that here at Jack’s Evergreen Painting we strive to provide over the top customer service and our reviews and ratings are a solid proof of that. In this response I will try to give our side of the store for every issue that the customer has mentioned. 1) House Temperature. When we start the painting process we need to have the house warm so that the paint can dry. When our crew arrived at the house the temperature was in the low 50’s. Our foreman asked the customer if the heat could be turned up to 65-68. The customer did just as we asked and turned the heat up to 68 degrees. During the painting process when you have a warm interior and it is very humid outside the paint doesn’t dry, as there is quite a lot of condensation inside the bedrooms. Therefor we had to open the windows to help with the ventilation and drying of the paint. When our employees tried to lower the temperature on the thermostat it was remotely locked so we had no choice but to open the windows. I find it hard to process that a customer would lock the thermostat and would not trust its contractors with a simple thing as temperature regulation. 2) Prior to starting the job we were informed that the house has an alarm system and made arrangements with the customer about our working hours so that the alarm system could be turned on and off from certain time frames. Every person on the crew was aware and notified about closing all windows and doors before we left the house. Our mistake was, when we were painting a very small master bathroom our employee left a small window open that is located behind a door. At the end of the shift, which ended around 4:30-5pm, the foreman called the crew and asked if everything was closed and locked up. They checked everything and said yes, not noticing a window behind the door. The customer was supposed to lock the house right after 5pm. The customer sent a text message to the foreman after 9pm stating that she cannot lock up the house as the alarm system indicates that one window is not closed. With it being late in the evening the foreman could not get a hold of the crew that was working on the house and asked the customer if it could be a system malfunction as he was told everything was locked up and told the customer that he was going to go ahead and take a look. To that the customer responded saying “No. I will go there in the morning and take a look for myself, just make sure that when the crew arrives in the morning that they don’t enter the house.” 3) The part that I really disagree about the bill going up $40.00 is the window was opened in a small bathroom, and it was not fully opened. The thermostat is in the living room/ kitchen area. If the thermostat was located next to the open window I can see the bill going up. 4) When it comes to hollow core door that is in the entry, they are glued on edges and when really cold the glue will separate, just like the hardwood floors in the house when it is cold they expand and contract. The customer at the start of the job pointed out a set of already separated doors in one of the bedrooms closets, and told us not to worry about them. There were also doors that were at that stage of separation in a hallway closet. 5) When it comes to communications with a customer, we don’t have an issue with emails. In fact, between my General Manager and myself there were over 20 emails going back and forth with a customer. The problem in this situation was that it would sometimes take a customer more then a day or two to respond to simple questions. Even though we had the customers phone number and called and left messages, most if not all responses would come in an email a day or two later. 6) About the water, part of our job was to pressure wash and stain front and back porch/deck. Our employee came to the job site and set up the pressure washer, it started and worked fine for about a minute. After a minute, there was no water at all, he started looking for what might be the problem, went into the garage and noticed that the main valve was turned off. He turned it on washed the decks and shut it back off, just like it was. The customer called my General Manager and started asking and accusing him that we must of damaged a pipe or had a reason to shut off the water, since prior to us pressure washing there was water in the bathroom sink. The General Manager replied saying that he has no knowledge of any water being shut off and stated that we don’t use any machinery that could damage any pipes. After contacting the crew that was working on the house, he was told that the water was shut off and they turned it on and then turned it back off. The General Manager, being a plumber in the past, explained to the customer that you had water in the sinks due to there still being water in the pipes and that once the pressure washing started it used it up. The only logical explanation for this is, maybe when the customer vacated the house 2 months ago; they shut off the main valve in the house. 7) The customer says that there are problems everywhere “Window frames, the floor, closet doors, new thermostat, alarm sensors you name it” What does that have to do with us? Floors were covered with rosin paper, carpet was covered with drop cloths, and sensor was masked with masking paper. Sensors? This is absurd the customer is giving an inventory of things that she has in her vacant house. All floors were masked and cleaned at the end of the job, carpet was vacuumed and not a single item here was mentioned during a walkthrough of four people. 8) If one saw this house prior to us starting it they would see what we had to deal with, old wall paint was on every doorjamb, we went ahead and touched up everything that was part of the contract. We did not use any oil paint, if there was a drip on a door and it was from our paint (hard to believe, the door was masked) then it could be washed off with a wet rag. It shocks me that a “Handy Man” would use a sander on a door for a drip of paint. 9) Bottom line is this; we did everything and even more that was in the contract. The customer called my foreman and stated that “Everything that you guys have done looks beautiful, my only concern are the areas that were not painted” Meaning the baseboards in the hallway and throughout the bedrooms that were not part of the contract. The customer stated that now the areas that were not painted look horrible and that we assured her that everything would look good. In our bid we were to paint all new millwork and make it look as good as we can even though some areas had ¼ inch gaps. We did all of that and we touched up all edges of old millwork that had wall paint bleeding on each side. Reading the this customers review of our company and reading our response, as well as many other positive reviews about us. You be the judge.
They were neat, cleaned up after days work. I will have them come back in the Spring to do outside painting!

This is a difficult review to write because it needs to be clearly evaluated on the actual paint job and the subsequent small claims case (that we won) due to damage to a deck table. The paint job itself is good, not excellent but good. Competitive price, punctual crew, completed the job in the stated time (despite a rain day), and overall the house and deck look good. Why the paint job is not being rated as 'excellent' is that the painters left rags and other items such as drop clothes on our roof and in the gutters when the job was done. (We weren't aware of this until one day about 2 weeks after the completion, the drop clothes came flying off the roof and onto the deck, which scared the heck out of us!)...then we went looking for more of them, and found several rags in the gutters. Additionally, some of the deck furniture (remember we have 3) was moved for the paint job, and was never replaced by the crew when the job was done. So, overall, it was a competitive price and the paint work itself is good. The bigger issue was that the crew, accidentally (we assume) damaged a brand new deck table. This was discovered after the crew had left for the day and my wife came home to visually review the work that had been done on the deck that day. We should also comment that despite repeated requests for the crew to cover the table, (which they insisted was not necessary), they did finally cover it. When they covered it, they also placed a heavy Weber grill against it, a portable space heater against it, and several resin deck chairs on top (over the drop cloth). Whether they accidentally damaged or did so intentionally as retaliation for our requests to them to simply cover it, we will never know. We discovered the damage and immediately informed the job foreman who then contacted the owner. The owner said they would initiate an insurance claim. We accepted this comment in good faith, particularly as that is what we would expect with a licensed, bonded and insured company. Issues come up and they get handled. Within a few days, we were notified by the owner that they would not be accepting any responsibility for the damage and that, long and short of it, they didn't do it and then claimed we intentionally damaged our table in order to get it replaced. As stated, this was a new table, but it was scratched within 2 weeks of us using it. At the time the scratch was discovered, we called the store where it was purchased from, and they advised us it is not under any warranty, and gave us some suggestions to avoid such things in the future. However, because the scratch was quite small, we just decided to live with it. The damage that the paint crew caused was of substantially more concern...2 dents and one large gouge that completely lifted off the enamel. This was not something we could accept and live with. We contacted the owner Jack and suffice to say he completely rejected any responsibility. We then sent a letter and check for the balance that we owed him LESS the amount of replacing the table. He rejected this as well, returned the check and letter to us and proceeded to file a small claims court case to be paid the full balance. We went to court in November, with photos, a witness who sat at the table the evening before the paint job began (who testified there was no damage at that time) and in the end, the judge ruled in our favor. We were to pay Evergreen Painting the amount owed LESS the cost of replacing the table top. We ended up with extra costs incurred (i.e court fee, certified mailing fee, producing color photos, our time away from work) all to achieve what we set out to do in the first place 2 months prior. Moreover, had Evergreen Painting just handled it as they said they would initially by filing an insurance claim all this could have been avoided. We learned in court that the cost of the damage was less than his deductible on the policy, but that should not have been our problem. He should have simply agreed that it was an accident and that perhaps his crew either didn't realize they did it or were intentionally not telling him, but there was no way on earth that we would do damage to our own brand new item to manipulate the situation. We have settled the payment with Evergreen Painting, have ordered another table top, and hope to put this unfortunate experience behind us. It was only on the day of our court hearing that we realized that Jack truly believed that we intentionally damaged the table so that it would be replaced by him given the pre-existing minor scratch. There are 2 culprits in this story: 1) the table saleswoman for sharing customer information with Jack without our permission and 2) Jack for inappropriately assuming the worst of of his clients. For this reason, we cannot give a good overall score for the company. We have learned to take photos of EVERYTHING when contractors are in the home and around the home. We would add that we've been remodeling our home since 2012 and have used Angie's list extensively and had very good results. We didn't expect anything less with selecting Evergreen Painting... a company with an A rating...but unfortunately we cannot endorse or give a similar rating.

Response from Jack's Ever Green Painting
We believe in the concept that the customer is always right. Sometimes {once a year} a client {one out of 300} is totally in left field. In this case it would have been easier to pay for so called damages but instead I decided not to back down. I am extremely glad I I went to the store where the table was purchased and found out this client tried to get a new table from them also because of some scratches to the surface. I did extensive research on this complaint and found out we did not and could not have damaged this clients table. The judge in court could not get his mind around the fact that someone would damage their own table either by mistake or on purpose. We go overboard with our clients and most of the time provide extra work at no charge to get an "A" rating. Some customers you just can't make happy and this was one of those cases.

I thought I had scheduled him to come at 10 a.m., so imagine my surprise when I stepped out to pick up the morning paper at 8:15 and he was driving up! No problem, because I was ready and not going anywhere because of the snow. Must've got our communication wires crossed. He patched a hole in the ceiling, around the ceiling light fixture, and an area in the attic ceiling, and finished everything on time in a professional manner. I was very happy with the service and the price.

Jack's crew did a fantastic job painting the exterior of our home this Fall. The previous painter did an extremely poor job of prepping the house and consequently the paint started to badly peel within a few years of the house being painted. Jack sent a crew led by Andre, who was one of the most professional contractors I've worked with, and they worked for days preparing the house for painting. The workers were professional and very thorough. The house looks great and I can't recommend Jacks highly enough.

Mike the painter worked very efficiently, was neat and tidy, very polite and was able to repair several more areas than I had expected in the four hour time frame. I am very pleased with the work and would definitely use this company again.

The worker was ontime and very professional. If I remember right, his name was Mike. He installed drywall, applied tape and two coats of mud. One was hot mud that dried while he worked in other areas. He worked very hard for four hours. I plan to have them out again.

As someone who has never written a review before, I feel compelled to do so due to the amazing quality, professionalism and customer service I received. My initial meeting where I requested a quote made me cancel my 2nd bid I had scheduled. I have extensive crown molding and millwork throughout my 2900 square foot home. They sanded and painted all millwork, in addition to painting all walls and ceilings throughout. They also removed wallpaper from one room, sanded and painted it. I can't rave enough about their quality of work. Andrey the manager was fantastic about communicating throughout the week he had a team in the house and giving great suggestions. Today was my final walk through and I can't believe how well it all came together!

Andrey was very responsive when I first contacted him through Angie's list. He came out to assess the project and spent a lot of time answering my questions in detail and offering options. He gave me a very competitive bid and I hired them. When the time came to do the work, his crew was very good, detail oriented and knew their job. Overall it was a very pleasant and smooth experience and I got top notch service.
