Military Family Renovation and Repair Regret with Liberty Construction. Liberty Construction DID NOT complete a single room in our home and there are two bathrooms with limited use. We still only have 1/2 a kitchen after paying for cabinets in November that were promised in December then January and as of February never delivered and installed. Upon contact with the cabinet subcontractor, he was never paid or given the go-ahead to order the cabinets. We do not have the money to pay for them again. The budget was a do not exceed and Liberty passed it WITHOUT OUR notification or approval. Subcontractors hires came in close to bid proposals. Only Liberty’s in-house team far exceeded proposed bid costs for paint and stair bannister repair. Their in-house work was neither completed or in our opinion up to standard. The owner has not responded to calls, emails, or texts since mid-December 2019. IMO there was Poor Project Management, Fiscal Management, Time Management and even Lower Quality Workmanship from Liberty and subs on this project. Inaccurate invoicing was followed by owner’s calls and texts for more money than was invoiced. Inaccuracies on invoices include wrong costs, wrong amounts paid, and even wrong names of subcontractors. One Liberty Project Manager was dismissed early on from the project when they could not provide requested or legible deliverables, missed meetings, used inappropriate language with homeowners and potential subcontractors, and removed at the suggestion of the insurance company. After this the owner stepped in. Liberty’s In-house painting team and subcontractors IMO left destruction in their wake in my home. There is paint splatter on cabinets, floors, trim, windows, window ledges, carpet (since removed), and new hardwood floors in multiple rooms. Trim, doors, and stair bannisters were never painted as part of their in-house work bid. Paint teams were caught painting without drop cloths and left large amounts of trash multiple times on the property. (We still have trash left over from December outside.) Primer was never used as requested. There are ceilings in several rooms that are painted the wrong color and walls in several more rooms that have a flat paint over a satin finish were touch-ups were done. Trim was randomly pulled out of rooms on 3 floors and thrown in the garage. The walls and trim are mostly unlabeled. Damage on walls from pulling the trim was not repaired even after promises to do so. Newly installed carpet by subcontractor has crooked seams in several rooms and the construction owner told me to just keep vacuuming over it till it laid flat. Not to mention the carpet installer scratched walls in several rooms that we as homeowners had just repainted in order to get the carpet laid and room finished. Drywall is uneven, missing in places, and parts of door frames have been drywalled over. Liberty’s in-house team and subs damaged personal property; damaged a bathroom mirror and multiple doors (scratches several inches long or several inches in diameter); and there is broken and missing hardware from cabinets, doors, and window treatments in several rooms. Smoke alarms were left off and several rooms had exposed nails from pulling of the trim. IMO not the safest environment for a family with little kids. I spent weeks sometimes months tracking down names and numbers, calling, and scheduling subcontractors to complete their jobs that had been paid for. Unfortunately for us there are more outstanding issues to include electrical. We called and texted the owner multiple times with concerns over quality of work. Most went unanswered. And because my husband and I were assured that the owner would take care of us as we were a military family with a spouse frequently deployed and Liberty’s owner was a brother to a family friend I gave Liberty all of our project money with the promise our home would be completed by Christmas. IMO bigger the fool was I placing trust and money in Liberty Construction. We are now left with the pieces and are trying to put our home back together. There is a lot of tears, frustration, and anger in my house right now.
