Vanderlip Construction brought our ideas and vision to a reality on a master and guest bathroom remodel in our 1961 rambler. Eric is both an organized contractor and an experienced craftsman. He is a thoughtful and very responsive communicator who we could always count on to perform the tasks he scheduled throughout our project. He brought in very skilled team of subcontractors who he made sure didn’t disrupt our home life and office work activities. Eric was generous with sharing his expertise and insights that helped us make decisions on key details. We had about an 80 percent design and selected all the tile, fixtures, and custom cabinets but Eric’s attention to detail brought it all together, especially on our counters and master bath shower. Always patient and friendly, he wanted to make sure we were satisfied with the progression and the outcomes. He’s also committed to backing up his work. I suffered a serious leg injury after the remodel and Eric kindly went the extra step to come to our house and install a new light fixture in our bedroom. He scored an A+ on both bathrooms and we made a new friend.

We couldn’t be happier with our new kitchen. Eric took care to perfect every detail (even when our house didn’t want to cooperate) and made us a space we’re excited to live in for the next 30, 40, 90 years. He carefully considered our concern and he worked with us to create a beautiful, well-crafted center for our home. He kept things in our budget wherever possible, too. He’ll be our first call when we do our next project. Thanks Eric!

We very much enjoyed working with Eric and are very happy with our remodeled home. Eric is a good communicator and did a great job of keeping us informed of the status of the project. He has a high attention to detail and made every effort to ensure that we were satisfied with the work. The subs that Eric used are also top notch and were attentive to our needs. Eric provided us with a detailed estimate of the cost of the project and kept us fully informed of any deviations. We would hire Eric again and highly recommend him for any project.

We have an older place that we wanted to have the bathroom remodeled in. I filled out the info on Angi and received a call from Eric with Vanderlip Const. He set up an appointment and came out and looked at our project and listened to what we were wanting to have done. He was very thoughtful , personable, and knowledgeable about all of the things that we were wanting done and more. One of the very best things about Eric is that he is very honest and upfront, but doesn't slam things in your face when he tells you. Because of the age and condition of our place he suggested we get a few things done before conquering the actual bathroom remodel. We thought about what he suggested and agreed that was the best thing to do. He set us up with a few of his subcontractors to get estimates and timelines on their part of the work to be done. All of them have been very knowledgeable and easy to deal with. We did schedule work with one of them so far and he was absolutely fantastic, and very reasonable. We are still working the the others and trying to get one item done at a time. Eric is always checking in to see how things are going and asking if there is anything he can do to help. We will hopefully be done with the "things you don't see" and can have Eric come in and get our actual bathroom remodel done soon! We feel good about the decision to follow his advice and get some underlying issues done first!
Description of Work: One of the items on our list to get done after talking to Eric was to put on a new roof that we badly needed and to put in a skylight that opened in our bathroom. He recommended Doug at Town and Country Roofing. He came out and gave us what we thought was a very reasonable bid and could squeeze us in as soon as there was a break in the weather. They did a great job and got it done in a very timely manner. We absolutely love the opening skylight!!! It really brightens up our bathroom and gives us fresh air that we didn't get before. Doug is such a great guy to deal with! They cleaned everything up when they were finished and it looks great!!!

You will not find a better contractor than Eric. He cares deeply about doing high-quality work and expects the same from his subcontractors. He’s responsive and detail-oriented, and leaves his workspace spotless when he wraps up for the day. He also has great taste and is a joy to work with. Highly recommend!

When we viewed the damage to our kitchen floor, walls, and cabinets from leaky pipes under the sink, our hearts sank. How could we handle such a large project? Because we are in our late 80’s, we called our sons about the matter and one of them said he’d call Angie’s List because he had gotten good help from you folks himself. The name Eric Vanderlip showed up on the screen as a highly rated contractor and he lived close to us. A quick call brought him out the following day. He told us because of COVID, getting materials and workers to do the work would be difficult, but that he was willing to take on the job. So began the restoration of our kitchen. We noticed Eric going out of his way at every turn to make it as easy as possible for us. Often he brought samples for us to check out, so we wouldn’t need to shop and perhaps expose ourselves to the COVID virus. How good it is to see our kitchen back in place, looking even better than before. We recommend Eric Vanderlip highly to our friends and family. In fact, we have Eric returning this summer for another job. Thank you, Angie’s List for providing good workers for a much needed service.

Eric and company are super busy and we were clear that we wanted to do a good bit of the work ourselves. A lot of contractors won't bother with the semi-DIYers. But, Eric squeezed us into his schedule. He was incredible to work with because he walked us through what we would need to do to get the best results for the work we would do on our own. So helpful, great to work and talk with. We will definitely be using him for whatever we need in the future.

Eric is a charmer. But, more importantly, he is a perfectionist. THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT IF YOU HAVE A SPECIAL JOB, but is a bonus if your job is typical. Eric has the technical ability to anticipate problems and solve them before it’s too late. He has a “design eye” which you, as the client, really want in a bath remodeler. Too many details can go astray during construction and Eric always has his eye on the ball. He has all the necessary tools and knows how to use them. He shows up when he says he will, and will text you if he is 10 minutes late. Oh, and he has a sweet tooth, but that is between you and him.
Description of Work: We had installed Hardibacker and Wedi in a tub surround and shower in our master bathrooms. As non-professional homeowners, we did not do such a good job. Eric Vanderlip and his team had to make major corrections, especially to the Wedi System, before Eric could install our tile.

Thank you so much for the great review. Your project proved to be much more than any of us could have expected. You both did such a great job rolling with the punches. The bathrooms did turn out beautiful and I’m glad your happy. Thank you again!
Vanderlip Construction was a breath of fresh air. The project was on time, on budget and Eric was very easy to work with. The level of communication was outstanding. If he was going to be even a few minutes late I would get a text or a phone call. I knew what was happening at all times. Eric helped us remodel our bathroom and did our floor and shower tile work with such precision that even my wife couldn't find flaws with it. His input on some of our design decisions was invaluable and we are pretty sure he kept us from making some mistakes that we would regret. he also worked with us on some of the harder design elements to make them perfect. At the end of each day, the site was clean and put together and while working, his respect for the rest of the house in terms of keeping it protected and clean also was admirable. i can't stress enough though that the work was quality. Eric was VERY meticulous and very concerned that every line in the project was perfect, despite non-plumb walls and that every tile was at the right height. I am a handy guy myself and I hesitated to hire someone for work I felt I could do myself but I was very busy. Now, I know there is no way I could have done what he did. I gave him all "A" ratings and I meant them. I am happy to discuss Vanderlip Construction with you if you are considering them for work in your project.

We hired Eric to do a fairly extensive kitchen, dining room and living room remodel. Right from the get-go he was quick to communicate with us and thoroughly explained our options through the entire process. He is a very detail-oriented person and always tidied up at the end of the day. We did have a bump or two along the way, (what project doesn't?) but he was fast to help us quickly and fairly remedy the issues. He was very accommodating to our needs and got the project done on time. We are very happy with the end results and our vision was realized. We hope to have him back for a couple of bathroom remodels!

The short version: We are absolutely delighted with the finished product. Eric met or exceeded our expectations every step of the way. I would highly recommend him for any remodel work. I would re-hire him again for future work in a heartbeat. The long version: Eric started by quoting our job honestly and accurately. The bathroom in question is large and the scope of the work we had envisaged didn't match our budget to start with. He was honest and frank about that and we appreciated that level of integrity and adjusted our budget accordingly. Eric completed the demo work with very little mess or disruption, in fact I can't believe how little mess there was since he tore out the entirety of a 20 year old master bath. Once the remodel itself started, it became clear that his craftsmanship is second to none - every detail is taken care of in a smart and sensible manner. He is also able to bridge the gap between design and implementation very expertly - using his experience to suggest design improvements as the project moves from concept to reality. He is very responsive to changes to the scope of work that happen naturally as a project progresses and prices changes very competitively. He was able to do everything in our bathroom except plumbing, electrical and glass work (which he subs out to highly qualified sub-contractors) and because he's doing most of the work the finished product is consistent, high-quality, polished and seamless. My final comment speaks to the pride he takes in his work - you can clearly see it in every grout line, every brush stroke. He also happens to be a super-nice guy - we were out of town for a considerable portion of our project and I felt totally comfortable leaving him alone in our home. Before and after photos included in this review.

Eric was very responsive to initial conversations. He viewed the house and discussed project plans. Timeline and costs laid out clearly. There were issues with subcontractors during our job and Eric remained on top of it throughout the process, pushing from his side. During construction Eric communicated throughout, he addressed issues, ensured subcontractors showed up (ie. electrical/plumbing) and made sure their work was satisfactory. During the entire remodel Eric made sure to leave the kitchen as clean as possible, which was very nice given kids and a dog were in the area. At this time we continue to have one subcontractor issue that we are trying to mitigate, Eric remains involved and I have no concerns he will ensure the fix happens.

We can't say enough good things about Eric. From the first time he came over to look at the project, he was a delight to talk to and it was obvious he knew what he was talking about. He carefully went over everything that we wanted to do and even pointed out smaller things that had escaped my notice (for example, nails in the ceiling over the bath that were showing because they had loosened) and said he would fix them. We had other companies come out to give us a bid, but Eric was the only one who gave us a detailed, line by line estimate. We really appreciated that and it was that which ultimately made us decide to go with him even though he was slightly higher than the other bids. Eric kept in touch from then on as we planned the start of the project and made adjustments to what we wanted. Once work started, we were amazed at how meticulous he was. He pays great attention to detail and makes sure everything is exactly right, even if it takes longer. There were no cutting corners and he didn't get frustrated with the problems that came up in a house that was built in 1955. And there were a few - water damage under the tub area that a previous owner had tried to fix himself and which needed to be taken care of, uneven walls and floor, and nothing seemed to be square. Everything was perfect by the time it was ready to tile. Eric himself tiled and grouted the tub area and added a niche for us, all done perfectly. His tile guy did the heated floor, floor tile and countertop and did a super job. His electrician was really good and moved lights, put in a fan, as well as other work we asked him to do. His plumber likewise. All very pleasant people to work with who know what they are doing. I won't list everything that Eric did for us, but there is a lot more. Needless to say, we were happy with all the work done. As a bonus, at the end of every day the place was cleaned up by putting things away, sweeping and vacuuming. It made the remodel a very easy thing to live through. Eric was also a very pleasant person to have in the house. We were sad to see him finish! Another point that we appreciated was that Eric always gave updates on costs as things changed, mainly because we added something, so we knew what to expect and there were no surprises at the end. All in all, we are very glad that we chose Vanderlip Construction and will do so again the next time we remodel.

Vanderlip Construction helped me with a difficult situation. I had a small bathroom with a heavily used tile shower and tub that started leaking water on the bathroom floor so badly that we couldn't use the shower anymore. The shower tile and backer board was 26 years old and had to be replaced. Eric and Dean were able to interleave my small job with other jobs that they had going on in the area. To save time and money, I did almost all of the demolition work, I bought most of the materials, and I did the painting around the shower once the tile was done. I was especially appreciative of how flexible they were with respect to controlling costs. They were happy to limit the scope of the project to what was essential to getting the bathroom back in service, while still delivering a finished result that was a significant improvement in style and quality. Eric mostly managed the project and maintained excellent communication with me as it progressed. He also did a good job of making adjustments when unforseen obstacles arose. Dean did most of the foundation work for the new shower and fiberglass pan (we decided not to use a tub again), with Eric helping out as his time allowed. Dean also took care of other areas such as the drywall around the shower. Emil installed the porcelain tile for the shower walls and bathroom floor. Everyone did excellent work, and were the types of people I could be comfortable with in my house for the duration of the project. I had the most interaction with Dean, who has many years of experience doing various types of remodeling. He is especially knowledgeable and conscientious with regards to creating a waterproof foundation for a tiled shower. He efficiently cut out and replaced the areas of the original wood framing behind the shower that had rotted due to water intrusion. He then meticulously installed backerboard with Vicor flashing and Red Guard waterproofing for a robust water barrier for the porcelain tile. Dean was great to work with, always being easy to talk to about project issues and alternatives. I wouldn't hesitate having these guys do more work at my house.

Eric is his own project manager, and also does a sizable amount of the remodeling. He subbed out the plumbing, tile work, and countertop which meant he coordinated all the timelines. Each day, he would call us with his estimated time of arrival; he was very timely. And, he did that for his sub-contractors as well. Or, he had them call us directly. Everyone who worked with Eric, including Eric was very timely, very professional, very friendly, very neat. All were craftsmen. My husband is most curious about any work, especially anything around home construction. He has been a part of small projects around our home with his brother, who was a contractor. He would say to me, "Eric is good!" Eric made sure everything was done correctly in the shower area; he did not want us to have any water issues, which we appreciated. He worked at correcting walls that weren't quite vertical and square. He knew how important that was for the tile work that followed. His plumber zeroed in on what needed to be done. Some "danger" areas were exposed which he showed to my husband. We are fortunate he corrected those issues before we had water damage in our walls. Now that we have used the shower, we can say the plumbing is AOK. The tile installer was precise; it was a big job as the tiles were 4"x8". When the glass doors were installed, the beauty of the vertical lines in the tile revealed how precise he was. The cabinet was installed with finesse. The countertop and sink were installed by a sub. We opted for a taller backsplash on the counter area because of an electrical wiring issue or the cost to us would have been quite a bit more. We are happy with that decision. The original light fixture was not centered on the sink so Eric corrected that so our new one is centered on the sink. Any drywall that happened was mudded well and textured as close as one could get to a 1970s finish with years of layered paint. The floor moulding was re-installed. Eric was careful to remove it prior to his work which helped us expense wise. The vinyl floor which we decided to use instead of purchasing new vinyl was in great condition after the remodel. Each day, Eric or his workers would tidy up. Really tidy up. Broom, vacuum, whatever it took. At the end, the tile grout that left a slight residue on the tile was removed. The chrome of our fixtures was spiffed up. My husband asked me if there is anything I would change. "No, there is nothing I would change." Thank you, Eric and your crew!
Description of Work: The provider, Eric Vanderlip, demolished our very small master bath in our early 70s split level home, in our desire to make room for a walk-in shower. That was our main goal but we didn't stop there. The original bathtub was removed as well as toilet, cabinet, counter, sink, hardware, fixtures. We opted to keep our 8-year-old bathroom vinyl as we were mindful of cost and we liked it. A walk-in floor to ceiling tiled shower replaced the bathtub. All plumbing was re-done as the plumbing was original to 1973. Because this bathroom backs up to our main bathroom, on-the-spot. we made the decision to re-tile that bathtub area at the same time. It made sense to replace that bathtub's plumbing while the wall was open. A comfort level high efficiency toilet was installed in both bathrooms as well as new solid pane windows which was our desire. We did not want to worry about water getting into the window wells. In the small master bath, a new cabinet was installed, along with sink, faucet, accompanying plumbing, light fixture, tile backsplash, mirror, hardware, frameless doors, and a whisper exhaust fan.

From Eric's first visit to discuss the project he listened to our ideas and what we envisioned for the remodel. We had a budget and Eric kept to the budget. All of the work, tile, plumber, shower door, painting was done on time and excellent quality. The end result was exactly what we wanted, which we were delighted about. Eric and his sub contractors were all very professional and the work is excellent. We would not hesitate to hire Eric again, in fact we have to remodel a powder room.

We are now at a point in our lives we no longer have a need for the tub and due to some medical issues needed to convert our standard tub into a stand up shower. After looking through all the reviews on Angie's List and doing some homework we settled on Vanderlip Construction. From the very first visit Eric was excellent! Starting out we discussed the scope of the project and let him know what we were looking for. It became evident very quickly that Eric knew what he was talking about and what he was doing. After discussing the in's and out's of our idea and what we wanted Eric was able to give us the pro's and con's of what we wanted. After Eric left from the initial visit both my wife and I were extremely impressed and decided to move forward with bringing him on for the project. I then called Eric and let him know we would like to hire him for the job. This is when things really started to get fun. I am a very picky and detail oriented person and hold others work to the very high standards that I hold myself to. In the past this has caused friction with contractors because I like to be very involved in the project. I was a bit fearful how Eric would react to this and to my surprise he actually embraced me being 100% involved during every step of the project. It is not very often that you find someone as well rounded and knowledgeable as Eric is and for this I can now understand how he has been so very successful over the years. Moving forward two months we now have the shower of our dreams and are so very happy with the end product and most importantly the quality of work was top notch. Like I said I am very detail oriented and after a short time working with Eric he was pointing out things that, even after going over it with a fine tooth comb, I didn't see. As with every project there was a few things that had to be squared away at the end of the job but again this is where Eric shined. He was here daily checking on the crew and making sure in the very end we were 100% satisfied and I can honestly say he went above and beyond anything I had expected! I highly recommend Eric and Vanderlip Construction for anything you have planned and can honestly say you will not be disappointed with the end result. Thank you for the bathroom of our dreams Eric!!!!

Eric, Dean and their guys were awesome! As a former custom furniture and cabinet maker, I have a lot of the skill set necessary for such a remodel. However, I know where my experience and skills end, and a contractor's skills and knowledge are required. I initially met with Eric for an estimate, and ended up working primarily with his partner Dean. Communication with them was great, and I was impressed by the quality of work they did, and their attention to detail. They always came when they said they would, and cleaned up before leaving. They're also really good guys, friendly, flexible, understanding, and funny. I would recommend them to anyone. The floor in my fiberglass shower surround had cracked, which initiated the remodel. We had outgrown our condo with the addition of our third child and are getting our place ready to sell. So we wanted the bathroom to be nice, and a nice selling point, but we also didn't want to go overboard. Eric and Dean understood where we were coming from, and worked with us on our budget to make it happen. I did the demo, and paint, and they did the rest, except I hired a cheap plumber who a friend recommended, which ended up being a mistake, but I'll get to that later. That being said, the master bath is currently the nicest room in the condo. The bathroom had been remodeled by the former home owner, and at first glance looked fine. However upon closer inspection, it became evident that there were some odd things happening. There was a large bulge in the drywall behind the toilet, that was partially disguised with a dark paint color. And from the top of the shower to the ceiling, the drywall angled back about two inches. It turns out that one of the pipes coming out of the slab (I'm on the ground floor) was set just past the framing. As it was cast in the slab, we couldn't move the pipe, but Dean furred out the drywall and there's no longer a bulge behind the toilet. He did a great job matching the texture on the wall to the rest of the existing walls. The shower wall had a spacer/barrier behind it, that didn't go all the way to the ceiling, causing the other oddity. That was fixed. But the thing that started the whole remodel, the cracked shower floor, was because that area was unsupported. When I removed the old shower, I found a 1' x 2' rectangular hole in the slab that was 13" deep around the drain. The former home owner had not filled in the hole, and had not poured more concrete! So we decided to move the drain, so we could put in a tub, and turn a 3/4 bath into a full bath. In an attempt to save money, I used Affordable Plumbing of Kitsap County. They were recommended by a friend as a cheap, and good plumber. They were cheap, and their work reflected it. They canceled on me last minute three times, causing Eric and Dean to reshuffle their schedule, and delaying my bath by two weeks and did not set the tub in square, causing more work for Dean. After seeing their work, I did not trust them to come back to fix it. I was worried they would make things worse. I do however trust Eric and Dean completely, so they dealt with fixing the issues. The plumbers were nice, but not totally competent, they also left a huge mess, inside, and outside the bathroom.
Description of Work: Eric and Dean remodeled my master bath. They replaced my shower, and put in a tub, installed a new vanity, and installed new drywall.

The rest of my experiences with Angie's list have all been great. Fair prices, professional people wanting my business.
Description of Work: They came and were at the house for a few hours, talking about what we would want if money were not an issue. Then the estimate was so expensive and I asked if they could pare it down to fit our budget. Basically he said I should wait a few years and save more money. Not happy.

Let me start by saying how sad I am with this review. We went out and spent more than two hours talking with this customer about her upcoming kitchen remodel. The interaction was excellent, and we had very good feedback on what was wanted from us. This homeowner wanted a very extensive remodel done, including structural work that would change the flow of her house. Because it was so extensive I asked what the budget was for the project, because much of my job is setting expectations. Once I found out the budget was $25,000 and the work wanted was more in the $50,000 range I let her know this. I was very upfront that I would do my very best to give a proper estimate for the "Dream Kitchen" and if that wasn't going to fit in the budget we could pair it down as much as humanly possible to make it what they could afford. After the initial estimate, this homeowner didn't respond back to repeated follow up emails, weeks later she emailed back and asked if we could give a revised estimate for just keeping the kitchen as is and not doing all of the structural work. I re-worked the original estimate and emailed it. After further talks on the phone I explained that what she wanted and what she could afford were very different things. I recommended not taking her $25,000 and blowing it with some contractor that said he/she could do the remodel for that price, because it simply can not be done for this price. I said save your money and add to it and in a few years she could afford the kitchen she really wanted without sacrificing what she really wanted. I said it very respectfully as I do when dealing with all of my clients. I know how long it takes to save $25K and I didn't want her to make a mistake, maybe I was too familiar? I have done everything in my power to give exactly what is asked of me and more in this instance. In this situation the client simply couldn't afford what they wanted, and as a result my company came out with a negative review for being honest. For all future clients, I am not the cheap contractor that tells you what you want to hear to get my foot in the door. I take too much pride in what I do to sink to this level and I am too busy to make that mistake. I charge an honest price for honest work done and we do fabulous work! If you cannot afford good work, please do not make it personal and try and destroy the reputation of a company that is doing the right thing. This is the second unfavorable review I have ever had in my life on my work, and I have been doing this for over 20 years. I will continue to work on setting expectations and make myself and my company better. For those Angie's list members still reading, please read the reviews of people I have actually done work for. Thank you.

Eric was very thorough in evaluating the job. He seemed very knowledgable and had lots of good suggestions. He gave me a very detailed cost proposal which I felt was pretty high, but was more than willing to work with on ways to reduce the cost.

Thank you for your review. I appreciate your kind words. I think my price point represents the quality of work I provide. My estimates can seem high at first, but they are very accurate and represent what the real costs of the project will be. I don't ask for more money midway or at the end of a project because I missed something in the begging. When it comes to quality and craftsmanship I believe you get what you pay for, and I believe I am a bargain. Take care and thank you again.

Eric did such great work for us during a complete house remodel two years ago that we asked him to do a few other minor projects that came up since then. As before, Eric was a pleasure to work with - always on time, accurate, and attentive to every detail. He is also very patient and informative for the curious homeowner - we have learned so much about home construction and maintenance working with him. We highly recommend his services for both small and very large projects.
Description of Work: Install porcelain wall tile in master bath. Install baseboard molding in two bedrooms. Paint exterior doors (oil base). Fabricate Dutch door for pet room. Replace water-damaged exterior woodwork/siding.

Eric was great to work with. We wanted to replace our kitchen cabinets, counters and backsplash, and also reface the family room cabinets to match the kitchen. Eric gave us advice that was very much appreciated on where to look for cabinets, countertops, tiles etc. He offered his opinion but was not pushy. The estimate Eric put together for us was detailed and accurate and our project came in on budget. (We did have to spend a little extra on a leaking flat roof but that was not under Eric's control. He did detect the leak though, and was VERY helpful in finding a roofer who could help us out pretty quickly....so as not to delay the kitchen project). The electrician, plumber, and tile specialist that Eric works with are all really competent people who are easy to communicate with. We felt very comfortable with them in our home and they all did excellent work. I also appreciated the fact that Eric kept our budget in mind. When the estimate for fabricating our soapstone counters came in high, Eric facilitated having another fabricator pick up the soapstone and cut and install the counters for a much better price. Eric is a very easy person to have working in your home for a month or more! This is pretty important :) He is trustworthy, intelligent and earnest and also has a good sense of humor. If a problem occurs, he will calmly discuss options. He returns phone calls and texts in a timely manner. Because we are so happy with our beautiful new kitchen, we are having Eric gut and remodel our master bathroom this summer.

Eric was hired for this job because I though I was going to need to replace the entire ventilation system in a bathroom ceiling, including ducting to outside, ceiling repair, etc.... however Eric quickly pointed out I needed only to replace the motor/fan unit within the system, eliminating the need for a big repair job. This superbly solved the problem and at a MUCH LOWER COST than I was anticipating.
