I was starting a new job that day, so I left the service door unlocked for them to access the garage. I dropped by at noon time to check on the progress and the technician was almost finished installing the new door. I provided him with the code for the outside keypad and went on my way. I have programmed the homelink many times over the last few years, so I told them I would do that myself. They offered to return to program it for me if I encountered any issues. When I arrived home after work, the keypad worked with my code, the garage was cleaner than I had left it, and I was able to program the homelink in about 5 minutes. At all times, everyone I spoke with was professional and respectful. After reading some of the reviews, I was amazed how out of touch many consumers are about garage doors and openers. My goal was not to get "something for nothing", but to "get what I paid for and have it done right the first time". I did get what I paid for and it was done right the first time. I definitely recommend this company and I will use them again.
Description of Work: I recently purchased and moved into a 1966 rambler, and it was obvious that it still had the original heavy wooden garage door (two car) and original door opener. This meant no sensors for safety (I have grandchildren and pets) and the remote was not homelink compatible. After looking on Angie's List, I asked Sound Door Services to come out and provide a quote for replacing the wooden door with an insulated door, replacing the opener with one that was homelink compatible, and installing an outdoor keypad. Their salesman came out the next day and quoted me a price that I considered very reasonable considering I had this done on a house that I recently sold in another state for about $500 more. So I asked that they install as soon as possible. They had an available slot the next day, so I was happy to get on the schedule so quickly.

I was able to make an appointment without difficulty. On the day of my appointment, they were running behind on their schedule. However, they were very good about informing me and called me twice to let me know the ETA. The technician got here according to the estimated arrival time and went right to work. Actually, my appointment window was between 2:00 - 4:00 and he arrived around 4:00. The technician was polite, informative, and efficient. My garage door is about 19 years old, and I believe that this may have been the first time it has been serviced, so I was delighted to find this Big Deal on Angie's List. I was interested in getting an extra remote control, which he had on the truck. I was able to write a check and get it on the spot (after he programmed it, of course). I would definitely call Sound Door Services again and recommend them without reservation.
Description of Work: I had my garage door serviced (new bearings, lubrication, nuts and bolts tightened).

Was not impressed with this company.
Description of Work: They cane to do a door service, which seemed very minimal. The company I used to use always adjusted my sensors because they get out of whack. This company basically said " sorry, too bad you can try and figure it out yourself" They then sold me a new garage door opener that didn't work and when I called them back, they wanted to charge me for that visit. I told them I didn't think I should have to pay and the luckily saw the error of their ways and re-thought their decision. The whole thing was pretty much a waste of time and money, I wish my old company was still in business.

Response from Sound Door Services
We visited this customer in February as part of a promotion that they purchased. We lubricated and serviced the door and changed the rollers. We also adjusted the tracks the opener and the photo eyes. The customer purchased an additional garage door remote while we were out there and not a new garage door opener. A few days later I called and followed up with the customer and at the time she seemed very happy. 5 months later the customer called us back and stated she had a problem with her door. Upon arrival we noticed that her photo cells had been knocked out of alignment by a garbage can and that her remote worked intermittently. Since we have a 90 day warranty on our labor for service the technician politely told the customer that he needed to check with the owner before he waived the service charge and replaced the remote. The technician called me explained the situation where I instructed him to give the customer a new remote and waive the service charge and fix the photo cell. I’m sorry this customer felt they had a bad experience but we did try and do right by her. We would never disrespect a customer the way this customer felt we treated her. We try and treat all of our customers with the utmost respect as I treat people the way I would like to be treated.

I have been having intermittent problems with my garage door opening, and a contractor friend of mine usually "fixes" it. I'm not very handy(!) and wasn't sure what the real issue was. Late Thursday afternoon, I looked up Angie's List and called Sound Garage Door Service due to their top ranking on the List. I spoke with Jon, the owner, and he scheduled a free consultation and estimate with Dave for the following day, Friday, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. On Friday morning, Dave called 30 minutes ahead as promised, so that I wouldn't have to wait around at home for him. When he arrived, Dave was clean, courteous, and professional, and he patiently explained the issue -- a 30-year-old garage-door opener in need of replacement -- and what my options were. He did not try to sell me the most expensive opener and told me what he'd do if it were him: a Liftmaster 3280 residential garage-door opener with a 7-foot belt drive. He said the cost would be $370 and include one remote; a second remote would be an additional $35. I agreed, and he called Jon and scheduled an appointment for the next day, Saturday, between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. with James, the installer. At 8:00 a.m. sharp on Saturday, James arrived (again clean, courteous, and professional) and went right to work. The work was complete by 9:20 a.m., and then James explained to me the work performed, where the sensors were, how to use the remotes, etc. I told James that I was planning a house remodel within the next couple of years, and he gave me suggestions for garage-door manufacturers. James left at 9:35 a.m. I was very pleased with the prompt, professional service and reasonable price, and Sound Garage Door Service would definitely be at the top of my list for consideration when I do decide to replace the garage doors (or have any other issues in the future).
Description of Work: Replacement of garage-door opener (including oiling and tune-up of rollers, springs, etc.). The cost was $405 (including a second remote control) plus tax.

They were a bit late to the appointment due to getting held up with a customer at their previous appointment. They rescheduled for the next saturday and looked at our garage door. They determined the springs needed to be replaced and otherwise the door was fine. They apologized for being late the day before and refunded our entire coupon payment and did not charge us for any extra labor. They even offered to give my father-in-law a gift card for the inconvenience of having to wait. Overall they were very nice and professional and we would use them again for garage door repair.

He showed up on time and made a quick appraisal, noting the wheels that had slipped out of their sockets, the bent hinges in addition to the damaged panels. He gave me a rough estimate of what it would cost to fix it properly, and wrote up an estimate for a new door as well. Then he offered to do a quick fix using a couple of steel angle irons that he had in his van. This turned out to take a little more effort than he expected because one of the cables slipped off its pulley as the door was repositioned and needed to be coaxed back into place. All the same, the technician stuck with it and when he left the door was closing without sticking. This was a big relief because I was hosting guests for the holidays. The best part was that he refused to accept payment, describing the trip as a "free estimate". Of course, I realize the fix is temporary and I will need a more long lasting solution . Chances are I will likely use Sound Door service for a new door, since their quote seemed reasonable and I will want to return the favor.
Description of Work: I called Sound Services to take a look at my garage door which was not closing reliably due to damage sustained a couple of years ago. I wanted a professional to look at the problem and determine if it needed fixing or replacement. Sound Services sent one of their staff over to look it over.

My garage door opener totally stopped working. I visited Angie's List first, then called Sound Door Services on a Saturday morning about 10:30 am, and they came at 12:30 on the same day. I work downtown so was very glad that Saturday is a normal workday for this company. The technician inspected the door and opener and explained all my options; ranging from installing a new door and opener to tuning up the existing door and just getting the opener to work. I always want to know all the options before deciding, so I really appreciated this. In this case, I decided for budget reasons to do the minimum for now and follow up on the more expensive options when I can better afford it. My door is getting bad and will need to be replaced, along with the opener, within a year or so. But I don't want to spend the money for that yet. So he lubed the bearings, tightened the springs and got the opener working quickly. The technician was friendly, pleasant, efficient, and explained what he was doing. He also mentioned he loves his job and loves working for this company because of the emphasis on good, honest customer service. Later today the company called me and suggested we replace just the door springs so that the opener will last longer before it will need to be replaced. They offered to do this without charging another service call, and we've scheduled the work for next weekend. When it's time for a new garage door, it will be this company who installs it. I'm a fairly critical person, but I'm very pleased with Sound Door Services. Their customer service is awesome.
Description of Work: The technician inspected the door and opener. Then he lubed the bearings, tightened the springs and got the opener working again quickly by reprogramming the remote.

My garage door did not make squeaking sound initially, but after about a month of use, it starts to make the same kind of squeaking noise.
Description of Work: He showed up on time and finished the service within an hour. He replaced my older roller with his white roller with bearing. He said my garage is 150lbs and should be replaced with lighter ones (that should be 15 libs! - if I remember it correctly. Maybe he said 50lbs?). The garage door has been there for 30 years.

It was okay overall, but very expensive. It seemed like the Big Deal was a way to see if there was something else wrong and then charge a premium. In my case there was something else wrong ... the rubber seal. Either way, it was expensive. UPDATE: Typical Angie's List ... you make a review that isn't straight As and the company calls you "make it right." Whatever, fine, I changed the over to a C from a D b/c I do say "It was okay overall.." But I'm sticking to my review. If they are good for you, great! Go for it. I never said they were a bad company, just felt like they charged a premium for something that costs around $14.
Description of Work: It was supposed to be a Big Deal "tune up" which amounted to a $50 can of oil to squirt on the spring and home hinges. What I really needed was a new rubber seal b/c a mouse chewed through mine. They charged me way to much for something so simple.

Ipurchased my first Angie's List Special coupon for Sound Door to recondition my garage door & replace the rollers on it. I was a little nervous about buying something up front but the price was right & I'm glad I did. When I called to schedule Jonathan had all my information & scheduled me a little over a week out. The day of, the guy who did the work called ahead so I knew when to expect him. He was very professional. He told me what he would be doing & what he would be looking for as far as any problem areas. He was done within about 45 minutes & then showed me everything he did.His work was very good & he cleaned up the area afterwards. He told me about the warranty for this job & encouraged me to call if I had any other questions or concerns.

The Big Deal offer specifically named the installation of replacement rollers, but I used the offer when it coincidently came to me within ten days of my two-car garage door starting to "bounce" open instead of coming to an easy shut down upon leaving the house. Attempts by me in prior years to adjust the power adjustment slides built into the Genie were unsuccessful. In fact, the tendency for the Genie to work itself out of adjustment every so often prompted me to start hiring professional garage door people to clean, lubricate, and adjust the tensions as needed. This time the "bounce" came back after about 18 months since the prior service date. A Sound Door technician came out to the house and performed the requested service, informing me that if any problem or question were to occur that their warranty would cover any return call that might be required. He mentioned how many days I would have to call; was it 60 or 90, I do not recall. Anyway, the door kicked itself open again after about ten days. I called them in the morning, and a second technician arrived within a couple hours. He further adjusted the Genie and it has peformed flawlessly ever since.
Description of Work: I have two garage doors, one is a two-car door and the other a single-car door. Both connected to Genie Pro Stealth brand motors. I had previously replaced the noisy metal rollers in the doorways with the quiet synthetic rollers. I hire people to clean and lubricate the rollers and fine tune the pressure adjustments on the doors as the Genie seems to be quite fussy even after the addition of the synthetic rollers in place. This year I chose Sound Door Services to do the service by way of their Big Deal offered through Angie's List.
