Mike the individual that came out and secured the garage and followed up with me was very polite and professional.
Description of Work: I accidentially backed into my garage door before it was all the way up. I contacted 3 garage door companies through Angies list (all three with A ratings), two of them got back to me, one did not. Precision not only got back to me but because I could not close my garage door, they were out there first thing in the morning and put it back on the tracks and secured my home at no charge. I was pretty amazed especially since the 2nd company that got back to me was late to our scheduled appointment by an hour and 10 minutes and the other company didn't respond at all (Crissy Doors - late and Apex Gargage Doors - never responded) This even though I mentioned it was somewhat of an emergency because I couldn't secure my home.

I called Precision Door Service from the ad in Angie's List. I was quoted a price range for a new spring of $109.00 to $139.00 and the cost of a service call for $49.95 so I was thinking of a cost of about $200.00. When the technician arrived I was told I really needed to get two new springs because it wasn't a good idea to put a new spring with an old one. That was two new springs at a cost of $129.00 each. Then I was told I really should replace a plastic spacer with a metal one for $75.00. I was advised also to replace the two end bearings at a cost of $139.95 for the pair. After the springs and end bearings were replaced, the technician hooked up the door again to the garage door opener and it wouldn't work. He spent considerable time and a number of phone calls but it still did not work. He told me I probably needed a new opener and he had one he could sell me for $450.00 but he'd give me a $50.00 discount. By this time I was getting very frustrated, refused to pay him, and said I would like to have the field manager come and take a look at the work and the garage door opener before I paid. Two days later the field manager came. He took the opener apart, tinkered with a few parts, put it all back together and the door and garage door opener worked fine. I cannot say anything but good things about the field manager. He was very professional, neat and fixed the problem quickly. I should have read the reviews before I contacted this company in the first place.
Description of Work: Springs replaced on garage door and end bearings replaced.

downhill from the get-go. the salesman J. Wright, was either high or had been hitting the crack pipe before coming to estimate my job. He refused to comply with my wishes & desires of what I wanted. did not have any sample door materials or info to leave with me. there are many better companies to choose from and i would never use a crummy rotten outfit like this one.

They did an excellent job. I had a receipt from a local hardware store for them. They were prompt and came on time. They did more than I actually asked them to do. It was very thorough.
Description of Work: They came out and replaced some rollers on my garage door which were becoming rough. They found them through a routine inspection. They also reprogrammed some handheld remotes I had.

This is second experience I've had with Precision Garage Door Service. I had the same system installed in my new home (built 2009) as was installed in my older home (built 1925), since it made such a difference in how quiet the operation was. I had two different technicians for each installation that were on time, professional and did the work in about an hour. Both techs cleaned everything up and ensured that I was pleased with the work. The first opener I purchased had one of the lights go out after 6 months and Precision came out and fixed it on the spot. Overall I am very pleased with this company and the products they sell.
Description of Work: Replaced the loud Genie garage door opener with a new belt drive opener, switched out the builder grade rollers to nylon and lubricated the hinges with silicone.

Precision was my second call to get an estimate to replace my old wood garage door. The first company contacted for an estimate I did not use (prices about the same but used different suppliers) primarily because I had a hard time getting someone to come and give an estimate at a specific time (tried three times and thrid time, I had to call work and let them know I would be late). Precision was punctual for the estimate appointment and the install. In fact, Mike, the techinician called to say he was on his way this morning ahead of schedule. He was early but I appreciated the call and the fact he was coming before the scheduled time (allowed me to get on with the rest of my day). Once here, he inspected the old door and hardware (house built in 1944 - so very low basement/ garage ceilings). He determined that using the old hardware (still in good shape) was the best option rather pulling everything out and making adjustments to his hardware. He let me know that it would save me $150 or I could use it toward getting a lifetime warrenty on the hardware that he would install. I took the warrenty. Mike asked questions about specifics: placement of the mailbox slot, for example, rather than just putting it where I had originally thought I wanted it. Install was quick. I think he was here just a little over one hour. My old garage door was removed to his truck. He swept up and was done. I spent more money than I had planned - but that was due my deciding to go with a better qaulity door than I had originally planned. No one pressured me to buy more than I wanted. I'm glad I made that decision, as it allowed Mike to use the old garage door track. Had I gone with something less expensive, a whole new track would have had to be installed (due to thickness of door). I also added on having a mailbox slot installed which added to the price. Again, this was totally at my request. I took advantage of a $100 off coupon offered to subscribers of Angies List.
Description of Work: Assessed current hardware (track). Determined it could be reused. Removed old garage door. Installed new garage door with requested manual handles and locks (did not want an automatic garage door opener). Removed old garage door. Swept up once work completed.

Our family believes that my mother was taken advantage of by this company. They convinced her that she needed ALL parts of her single car gargage door opening system replaced. For the entire price they charged her, she should have gotten a brand new door & the entire garage cleaned and a gift certificate for dinner to her favorite restaurant. Since we found out about this, I have spoken to another door company and they informed me that to do all the work that they did, the most they could ever charge would have been 1/2 this amount. The prices were totally inflated. You hear stories all the time of companies that do this sort of thing, I just never thought I'd have to sharing this story about my own mother.
Description of Work: To fix a single car garage door opener, which was not opening, the company came out for a $49.00 service call to give an estimate. They advised that the entire system needed to be replaced (which it did not, a family member had looked at it and believed it was strickly the motor....the rails, springs, etc. were just fine.)) and they had all the parts with them to do it. They gave a 15% senior discount to my 84 year old mother.... so I am must believe that they inflated the prices even more to over $1400.00 to give her the discount. The company was able to come out immediately to help her and they did the work quickly.

This appears to be a classic bait and switch. On the phone the company quotes one price and the technician arrives and gives considerably higher numbers. Specifically, the company quoted $109-$139 per spring with installation (the average consumer can't possibly know what this includes or not). They also quote a roller kit at $219.95 (total approx $500). On site, the tech quoted the "double torsion Overhaul" package at $699.95 which, if pressed, they will quote over the phone. (Unfortunately they don't initially mention that on the phone.) When I called back to the company initially, the phone person setting appointments explained the discrepancies by saying the techs had more information than they did. I did inquire as to what the "double torsion overhaul" package included and the cables were NOT included in my "overhaul" according to my invoice. Check the web. Precision is noted all over the web as a classic ripoff. I asked the company owner and/or manager to contact me.
Description of Work: Replaced dual torsion springs for a double car garage; replaced rollers, replaced drums and end and center bearings, plus paid an additional $49.95 for next day service. The technician was here less than an hour. I took the time to learn a few things about garage doors in general so I don't make the mistake of using this company again.

I have been unhappy with the amount of noise generated by my two garage doors as they move along their tracks. Starting this year, the larger door started to misbehave by "bouncing open" repeatedly upon closing. After numerous attempts to adjust the fine tuning myself, I called Precision based on ad in newspaper. I asked 1) for quieter doors, and 2) a fix for the "bouncer." Craig Garland not only resolved these issues for me, but also found that the header bracket on one door was in contact with the torsion spring. I particularly appreciated Craig's willingness to explain the details of all this without me having to drag the explanations out of him. My doors not only work better but I am now smarter about their operation than I was before.
Description of Work: Replaced contractor grade garage door rollers with HD nylon rollers on two separate garage doors, reset force adjustments and fine limit with adjustments on two GeniePro Stealth/Max door operators. Also, relocated the header bracket on one door to prevent abrasive conflict with torsion spring. Attached photograph shows current location of header bracket now placed just below the "holes" in the wall where the header bracket had previously been mounted.

Acknowledged my call for help with a real person, promised for service call two or three days later. Service guy shows up promptly as promised. Service guy says we should rebuild entire opening mechanism, cost $1,100 plus. We settle for replacement of both counterbalance springs (only one was broken) service guy was fully equipped and seemed to know what he was doing. Completed the job in about an hour. He lost about 20 minutes because he had locked himself out of his truck. When we settled up he insisted that we waive any warranty on the job (other than 90 day minimum) because we didn't go for complete overhaul.
Description of Work: Replaced two counter balance springs and one sealed center bearing in the garage door opening mechanism.
