I chose Tim because, unlike the other contractors I met with, he was willing to go with my vision for the backyard. He was able to draw a great picture of the overall planned layout and offered a very competitive price. The photos of his work on his website looked good, so although I couldn't find any reviews, I thought he would be a good bet. Most of the work was done by two workers, not TIm. They were all very friendly, and initially when I wanted some follow-up work done Tim was accommodating. When the work was complete, at first glance I was happy with it. They basically did what I asked them to do and it looked good. But with weather and time, the work didn't hold up so great. There are several problems with the work that are a result of sloppiness and not really doing a careful job. If you just want work done well, I would recommend looking elsewhere. Fence: The boards, which have space in between so it isn't a solid fence, are not spaced evenly. This would have been a matter of simple math and calculating how much space to put between the slats so all the spaces would be even, but it looks like they did not plan ahead. The fence boards were also stapled in, and not very carefully, and half have come loose over the past 9 months. I had to nail them back in with real nails. Gates: I can't even open one of them because the latch was not spaced correctly. The other gate is just weird, again due to a lack of planning. Instead of one gate door or two gate doors that are the same size, they made a gate with two differently sized doors. It looks like they did not plan ahead and then realized that the space they made for the gate was an odd size. This isn't just a cosmetic issue; it makes the gate awkward to use. Flagstone patio: They didn't grade it or make sure that it was level, because when it rains (frequently here, of course), immediately there are large puddles all over the patio. I can't walk across it without getting my shoes soaked. These puddles span several stones, so this is not a matter of water collecting in one stone's cracks. I told Tim about this and his crew came to even it out. I don't know what they did, because it not only looks worse (the grout is a bleached white that doesn't match the rest of the patio), but it did not solve the problem at all. Flagstone stairs: The stairs they made are not the same height, which is a safety code violation. The top stair dips in severely, causing a massive puddle exactly where we need to step to exit the yard. I had to put a loose flagstone on top of this dip to have something dry to step on, but this wiggles, and with the awkward gate mentioned above, it can be dangerous. This is a gate we have to use daily to get to our driveway. Soon after they completed the work, a small stone came loose and fell off the stairs. Tim had one of his guys put it back - He didn't bother sanding away the residual cement from the previous installation, so the stone is no longer flush with the rest of the stones. Just another example of shoddy work... Lawn: The original yard was covered with landscaping stones, so I asked Tim to take those away and install a lawn. The lawn looked great after it was first rolled out. We took diligent care of the lawn, watering it and keeping leaves off of it, but it turned to mud within a couple of months of rain. The sod never took to the soil, and we could roll it up like a rug even after a few months. We had a couple of lawn specialists come out to take a look, and they both said that the soil was too hard to roll sod over like they did, and to really get a lawn going we would need to remove the first few inches of rocky soil and replace it with better soil. I told Tim this, hoping he could at least remove the unsuccessful sod so we could try something else. He came out to look, and replied that the failure of the lawn was that we weren't taking care of it (he mentioned there were leaves all over it - well, we let that happen long after the lawn turned to mud), or lack of sun. Long story short: our soil needed much more preparation to be lawn ready, and Tim did not do the necessary prep work. They removed the surface layer of rocks, but now that we have removed the failed sod (a hauling job we had to pay $250+ for), we see that the soil is still full of rocks.
