VERNON TO THE RESCUE

The job was well done and Vernon cleaned up well before leaving. He was on time and worked fast. I will use him again soon in the near future

The story is simple. I called Vernon based on rating from here on Angie's list. Vernon answered the phone on a Friday afternoon and agreed to come handle my drywall problem the next day... Saturday morning. He showed up. He was prepared for the job. He was professional. He knew what he was doing and took pride in his work. You really can't ask for much more than that.

Vernon arrived on time, and completed all the tasks efficiently, and with a great attitude. It took about two hours.

Vernon was outstanding all the way. He immediately started work, on Father's Day no less. He went the extra mile. He insisted on putting another coat. His price was right and his work was exceptional all around. He showed up when he said he would, finished when he said he would. Good work.

Vernon was completely unprofessional, talking much of the time rather than working on a job being charged at an hourly rate. He had not made his rates completely clear before arriving and we were also shocked at the end price of the job he did for us. We ended up with a $250 closet shelf and $100 caulking job a modest walk-in shower. We even cut the job short because he was so slow; we were supposed to get 2 closet shelves put in and had him stop after one. I would never, ever hire him again and would not recommend him to anyone.

When I called he told me that he was very busy and didn't know when he would be available. He didn't even say that he was willing to come. I was shocked that someone would turn business away so quickly. He made himself appear to be in high demand, but he will not be in demand for me. I wouldn't call him again for anything.

He did a great job. The job was reasonably priced and efficient.

We have used Vernon's services before and were confident of his expertise. He is easy to work with, efficient and able to fix almost anything the first time. His advice on what to do and how to do it has saved us money as he is willing to tell you if something really needs to be done or not, or if there is a less expensive way of doing it. His charge is by the hour and he works the entire time he is on the job.

Overall I would look him up next time we need a handyman and see what his ratings are on the List.

He seemed to be fairly efficient, in a rush, and a little brusque maybe but he did a good job. We thought that it was expensive - I guess most people find plumbing jobs a little expensive. Since the repair was underneath the house, we haven’t been down there to check it out periodically. I don’t think I would use him in the future.

He was here on time, and he explained to me what his price was and I agreed to him. He even said that he would charge so much per hour and so much after a certain period of time. I thought that the price that we ended up paying was kind of high. I think I could have got somebody else for less than that. I would use him again with the understanding that he would give me a fixed price on doing something - I wouldn’t do it by the hour anymore.

Very well, made sure all was right before going on to the next steps.

Needed some fence repair and Vernon recommended what needed with good reasoning. He detailed what he was going to do and followed through as promised. The workmanship was done well and his estimate was close to what he said. He didn't have the right size lumber and had to return to the store to exchange the wood but did it on our time, so, had he had the right materials to begin we might have saved some time and money. He did arrive an hour later than we scheduled but he did call to notify us he would be late. His costs were reasonable but more than we expected. Will consider hiring him again if we are needing some repair that we aren't able to do ourselves.

He returned my call promptly, gave me a fair estimate, the job took a little extra time and materials which he kept me posted on. He did a great job and also completed the project in the pouring down rain with a good attitude.

The appointment was for 9am, but Vernon showed up at 10. He did call before 9 to let me know he was running late. He went right to work fabricating a base for the new garage light and paid lots of attention to detail to matching our current light. He was clear with what materials were needed and discussed everything he was doing to ensure he met our requirements. He also patched up a set of 20 something holes that the electrician made in the drywall in order to run the line for the light (this took the longest amount of time). Lastly he mounted a toilet roll holder in our spare bathroom that required drywall correction. Vernon was very amiable and friendly. He enjoyed showing the tricks of the trade in an effort to empower any DIY'er to do it themselves and gave great advice about future remodeling questions. The only knock was the length of time it took (6 hours), but Vernon's rates were very competitive. I would recommend Vernon for any type of handyman work.

Our kitchen faucet had begun to experience greatly reduced water flow. Vernon diagnosed the problem, gave me an estimate and did the job, quickly and professionally.

He has a very direct communication style - I like him. I just need to find time to get him in there!

He was very good. He stated a price and stuck with it. He was right on time. I was quite satisfied with his work.

He was very professional and punctual. I just purchased a used home and had some work to do resulting from the inspection. He took a consultative approach and saved me some money because he took issue with some of the things the inspector had noted that needed to be fixed. He told me what he would do and for how much and did exactly what he said he would do. He even did a few minor things that I asked for, at the last minute without nickeling and diming me. Having said that, he is not cheap. I will use him selectively for items that I either don't have the time or expertise to do.

Fixing this seemingly simple faucet leak turned out to be a marathon exercise in frustration but Vernon was terrific! The original faucet was purchased at another store along with the sink and counter. Unbeknown to us, very few faucets made for American counters fit in that counter configuration so when a faucet fails, it's very difficult to find a replacement unless you go to the store. We didn't have the time or the inclination to make the trip down there. After he got to the house and figured out the problem, Vernon had to make four trips to different stores to find a faucet and parts that would work with the sink. Then he had to drill out the underside of the counter to make enough room for the center post of the new faucet. It took HOURS longer than any of us expected and we felt terrible that he had to go to so much trouble to fix one measly faucet. However, Vernon kept his good attitude in spite of the frustration. He said he was determined to find a resolution to the problem and that he always finishes what he starts and does not just walk away. He did a wonderful job in spite of the challenges and our tenant now has a great faucet that doesn't leak! Vernon cleaned up and left everything tidy. Needless to say, the final cost was much higher than we anticipated, but we had no argument with his fee as it took so long to get the faucet repaired. As the owners of our own homes and three rental units, my business partner and I now have Vernon on speed dial. :-) I highly recommend his service.

I was disappointed that Vernon charged tax on his work. It is likely that he mentioned this on the phone, but not having had a contracted person charge me taxes before it is likely I didn't think about how much that actually is. Paying his taxes really added to how much I paid him so I felt I paid more than I wanted compared to other services I had contacted. He did do good work so I would contract him again if we can agree on a price.

He is a joy to work with and does a great job. I can't say enough good things about him. I would recommend him to anyone.

Vernon arrived on time. He began work immediately and worked very hard for 10+ hours on one day (in extremely hot weather) and 6 hours the next day. He is a very knowledgeable gentleman, whose suggestions are very good. We are more than satisfied with the work, and plan to hire Vernon for additional things we would like to have done. Highly recommend Vernon. Very personable and professional individual. Extremely hard worker. Very understanding and easy to talk with.

I called him and he was too high priced. He responded quickly though and I might call him again for another estimate. ($365)
