Overall, I was impressed with Dan Moore and his team. Mr. Moore and his workers collectively have decades and decades of experience and were very good about providing sound advice on topics relevant to the exact job and otherwise (e.g. for example care of Saltillo tile or where to get good deals on lumber). I found Mr. Moore to be very pleasant to get along with. He was communicative, but overly so. He went to great lengths to explain what needed to be done and why. He was willing to estimate how long the job would last and was good about returning phone calls. He understood all relevant laws and regulations and came to us with all necessary paperwork ready to sign.
Description of Work: Overall remediation and partial redo of incorrectly installed roofing on older home. Work included a very thorough inspection to locate sources of multiple leaks. Owner of company personally visited home on several occasions to set up the job and try to figure out what previous contractor, owner, handman(?) whatever had done. The work itself was actually performed by several skilled subcontractos of the company. This task used two subcontractors (a roofer and builder). Each subcontractor has one assistant. Thus, collectively, the job had four workers in total, who came and went as appropriate as the job progressed. The job itself included a lot of dismantling of existing roofing, removal of layers of old shigles, etc. The guys did a great job of pulling up old concrete tile and saving them for reinstallation (e.g. to save me money and to assure a perfect match). Overall, I found Dan and his guys to be highly honest in this regard. They certainly did not try to sell me anything I didn’t need. I was also appreciative that the team allowed me to perform some of the lower skilled tasks (e.g. removing a solar water heating unit), pulling insulation, etc.) to keep costs down. As the job progressed, more and more baffling problems were discovered. More than once, the phrase “what were they thinking” was uttered. For example, a flat porch roof was built with a slight decline that led to water pooling up at a seam, which ultimately leaked. Also, tar had been placed directly onto OSB, for some reason, and used to glue sheet roofing on. This was impossible to get off, although the guys sure tried. In the end, we decided to rip that entire portion of the roof off, shim about a 2% slope into a new surface, and then add all new materials. The builder was able to make angled shims from 2x4s that fit perfectly using a skill saw. I still am not sure how he pulled this off so accurately. I could not have done it. This add task on was completed at a bare bones cost (e.g. mostly just materials) and I sure appreciated that. The entire job went like this. As new problems (e.g. incorrect flashings and gaps in the concrete tile across the entire roof) were discovered, they were addressed after appropriate discussion. Overall, these guys worked very fast, but did not cut corners. For example, they actually removed mounting hardware and shingled seamlessly under several heavy roof AC units to avoid producing new holes that might leak in the future. They also reinstalled my solar water heater, also quite heavy. They cleaned up after themselves and overall conducted themselves in a friendly professional manner.
