On the appointed moving day the crew arrived on time - before the truck actually arrived. We had done 98% of the packing of the packing ahead of time so we were about ready to go. The driver marched into the house and did a walk through with the crew and he then spent time attaching numbers to each item that would be going on the truck. His job seemed to be working with the inventory because we saw very little of him. When he was done with his inventory, he also started moving things out to the truck. We were not at all pleased to see one of the antique headboards on the ground in a pile of slush. The truck had to be rearranged a couple of times to make room for things not already packed. For example, part of the bed from the master bedroom was on the United truck and other parts of it on the overage truck. ( The overage truck was packed to take the rest of the load to the Rutland where it would be crated and shipped.) When the United truck arrived at the new house 14 days later (we drove there in 4 days) it became clear that the kitchen table suffered damage that would need to be fixed before we could use it. Anyway, to make a long story short a number of our things, some of which cannot be "fixed" or replaced were damaged. You don't always know that right away unless you unpack everything as soon as you get it. All told: we found the driver less than pleasant; it took 15 days to get part of our things and a total of 26 days to have it all; and damage to a number of items. Cudos to the packing crews who made the whole packing and delivery process go smoothly and with a minimum of fuss.
Description of Work: Todd Transportation was the local contact and trip set-up group for the United Van Lines move but it was United itself that actually provided the loading/unloading/move/storage (we did not know upfront that the possible overage would be stored for later delivery). Apparently the process involves a United Van Lines driver who is responsible for contracting people to actually move the belongings from the building(s) and pack them on the truck and a different crew to perform the process in reverse upon delivery. These crews comprised between them about 8 people. They were not United employees. They were really excellent: careful with our belonging, professional and very accommodating. These people we would hire again in a heartbeat. The United driver was "in charge of two of the three crews. (The third crew arrived with the overage). NOONE ever managed to warn us that the overage was going to be more than 1/3 third of our things ( he had other loads from other customers already on the truck) and would arrive - whenever!!!
