The work was done in a few hours. Some extra bracing was added at request. Price, in this case, minimum labor charge plus materials, was well-explained in advance. Clean-up was complete. This is a very professional company.

This service was a continuation of an earlier repair. Bruce scheduled it at a convenient time for both of us--this required several visits as he waited for drywall patching, primer, and paint to dry. He remounted a laundry room cabinet and repaired ceiling in two rooms. For free, he also nailed a sagging gutter, adjusted some cabinet hinges, and attempted to diagnose a leaking toilet . Bruce is always thorough and professional, and gives careful attention to the smaller jobs as well as the larger ones.

We were very pleased with Bruce's work, as always. We have used Bruce a few times in the past for other projects, and it was a great experience again. Bruce always is prompt, works very hard to get projects done promptly, and takes great pride in doing things right. The tiling looks great--especially with the extra work he did on the glass tile accents--and we are thrilled to have a shower that is now properly constructed and sealed. When we saw a couple of things that needed to be touched up near the end, he came back promptly to address them fully. We are pleased with our beautiful new shower. Thank you, Bruce!
Description of Work: We hired Bruce Moose to assist us with a partial shower rennovation. We suspected that several cracks in the grouting near the bottom of our shower had led to water getting behind the bottom tiles, which were starting to loosen. After a consultation with Bruce, we developed a plan that he would remove the bottom 1/3 of the tiles, replace what we suspected was drywall behind those tiles with waterproof boarding, and the retile. As it turned out, the drywall behind the tiles was moldy, and some of the studs on one side were rotting too. Thus, we needed to replace that and all of the tiles on the walls. We were able to keep the original ceiling and floor tiles, though. Finally, we had Bruce put in a decorative blue glass tile border midway up, put in a new shower door, new fixtures, etc.

He was more expensive and seemed to be on a smaller scale than what I was looking to do. I can't remember specifically about what happened. He seemed like a nice guy and was professional. In the review of his sample work online, I didn't really like his aesthetic. So I would not suggest a family member or friend to use him.

This contractor has proven to be most competent. All work was performed with unusual care and attention to detail. For example, in accommodating for the out-of-square dimensions of this vintage cottage, he employed numerous tricks to fool the eye. You really can't tell it's flawed. He brought to bear a strong sense of what it takes to achieve habitability. It was his idea that in my tiny galley kitchen the stove nevertheless be full size and that the floor in such a space be durable laminate, rather than the actual wood it so effectively emulates. I left the selection of wall color to him and results surely redeemed that trust. My forlorn entrance way required new treatment and this contractor surprised me with a fabulously selected nine-light door the features of which perfectly complemented the existing design context. Perhaps not every client of this contractor would require him to exercise such faculties but it would have to be reassuring that he have them. He also knew how to anticipate the problems of landlordship. For example, he knew to install durable quarter-turn shutoff valves at sink, lavatory, and toilet, so I wouldn't get a call about any full-turn valve predictably having a leak. He apparently has experience in real estate sales and as a landlord because he certainly came up with the right results. I found this contractor easy to communicate with and effectively empathetic with my intentions for the house and grounds. He did some work gratis, like locating, picking up, delivering, and placing used but choice furnishings I gave him the purchase price for. He provided many supplies, materials, and components (like matching white ceramic soap dish and toilet roll holder) off his truck. I did not pay any premium for the imported Italian tile he used for the lavatory back splash. The work was performed quickly and spiritedly. This was a extensive interior remodeling project for so small a house. It came out great. I truly have nothing to complain about. I strongly recommend brucemoose.com.

This is our second time using Bruce Moose for a home project and we are as pleased as ever. Bruce came to our house to give an estimate within a day or two of our initial call. He indicated that he could start the project as soon as we were ready; in fact it was us who needed more time to pick out the vanity and other items that we wanted. We said that we would purchase everything ourselves at a home improvement store; and Bruce picked it all up from the store with his truck, which was very convenient as we do not have a vehicle large enough to transport such big items. Bruce and his assistant arrived promptly that morning and worked tirelessly all day (until 8pm). Due to some faulty plumbing work done by the original owners of our house, we did encounter a small problem with the toilet after it was installed. That said, Bruce was back out at our house immediately to remedy the issue, at no extra cost, which we were very appreciative of. Our new bathroom looks beautiful. Bruce is such a pleasure to work with. He will brainstorm with you to figure out the most budget-friendly options (if you're on a budget, like we were), but his work is top notch. He takes great pride in his work and ensures the job is complete, it is done incredibly promptly, and the customer is completely satisfied. Thank you, Bruce!

He did a great job! He improved the structure of the porch, included detailing that was not requested that turned out very nice. He cleaned up everything from the damage and reconstruction. He did the porch himself and had a sub contractor finish the roof. He took full control of the job and executed excellently. He had a key to my home and I never had a problem. He cleared an area to get better access to my porch as my driveway does not reach that area. The porch looks very cute, small house, small porch, looks very nice.
Description of Work: I had a tree fall on my home during a storm. It crushed my porch and damaged my roof. I had my roof redone where there was damage and had my porch rebuilt from the ground up. He also fabricated new trim around the roof to replicate the detailing on my older home. He carefully removed the tree as well so there was no more damage to the house.

Because he was the first company who responded to my email, I invited him out to perform the estimate. He said that he would have to use scaffolding to complete the job because of the high ceilings. While he was here, another company responded by phone to my email and left a message on the answering machine. Bruce charged $64 for the estimate, and then sent the estimate via email. In the email estimate, however, he stated that he did not compete for work with illegal aliens, insinuating that the other company who called me was working illegally. I chose to go with the other company with a more reasonable price instead.
Description of Work: They came out to give me an estimate to work on a wall, some skylights, and taking out some wood paneling, which included painting and finishing in the living-room and upstairs bathroom.

Bruce scheduled the work on fairly short notice and, with his crew, finished in one day--faster than promised. They showed up on time, worked quickly and efficiently, minimized disruption to the household, were careful of our newly-installed carpeting, and cleaned up before leaving.
Description of Work: We were preparing for the installation of a pipe organ in our home and because of the weight of the instrument, needed to to do some structural reinforcement. Bruce and his crew reinforced floor joists, a supporting wall, and part of the stairway support near the installation. This also involved disconnecting electrical wiring and installing junction boxes.

Bruce does beautiful, meticulous work. It's hard for him to get into the district for small jobs, so he scheduled our small repairs at a time when he was already in town for a larger project (and had to reschedule around the Marine Corps marathon, a real traffic killer). He arrived exactly when he said that he would, as always. Unfortunately, he had left his truck at the other job site, came by cab and forgot to bring some of the materials he needed, so we took a ride to the hardware store. He did what he could with the drywall in the remaining time and returned the following day to finish the repairs to his high standards. We had run out of the paint that was used on the walls, so he had to match up a can from a sample -- miraculously, it matched perfectly!

Bruce Moose charges $65 for an estimate. He is very knowledgeable and helpful, but his per square foot charge of $21 was more of a new construction/renovation rate rather than a fair price for installing refinished hardwood. His estimate was almost $20 per square foot higher than my highest estimate. I would not recommend him for small jobs such as this.
Description of Work: The job was the installation of refinished hardwood flooring that had already been purchased. The old flooring (linoleum) needed to be removed and the new flooring installed along with the 1/4 round molding.

IT IS ALWAYS A GREAT PLEASURE TO MEET NEW CLIENTS AND HELP THEM WITH THEIR PROJECTS. THIS MEMBER WAS NO EXCEPTION. A BALLPARK ESTIMATE WAS GIVEN OVER THE PHONE THAT THE MEMBER STATED WAS IN THE RANGE OF HER BUDGET BEFORE SHE ASKED US TO MEET WITH HER FOR AN ESTIMATE. OUR TRAVEL TIME FOR HER ESTIMATE WAS TWO HOURS ALONE, AND WE SPENT AN HOUR WITH THE MEMBER DIAGNOSING AND CONSULTING ON A VARIETY OF HER HOME REPAIR CONCERNS. THE MEMBER PRESENTED US WITH HARDWOOD SHE HAD PURCHASED, BUT STATED THAT SHE WAS NOT SURE WHAT SHE WANTED TO INSTALL. WE OFFERED THAT LAMINATE WOULD COST LESS, IF COST WAS A CONCERN. THE MEMBER'S PROJECT REQUIRED WEEKEND WORK, WHICH ENTAILS ADDITIONAL COST, AND OSTENSIBLY WOULD BE SCHEDULED RIGHT AWAY - EVEN THOUGH WE ARE IN THE MIDST OF SEVERAL OTHER PROJECTS. NOT KNOWING WHAT SIZE OF FLOORING OR TYPE THE MEMBER WOULD SELECT, WE GAVE HER A QUOTE ASSUMING A WORST CASE SCENARIO. HER HOME ALSO HAD SOME SUB-FLOORING AND LEVELING ISSUES WHICH MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT, SHOULD THE OTHER QUOTES HAVE BEEN OVER THE PHONE. WE DID FOLLOW UP WITH THE MEMBER TO SEE IF SHE HAD ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT HER ESTIMATE AND WHAT SHE WOULD LIKE TO DO. SHE STATED THAT SHE WAS NOT SURE WHAT SHE WANTED TO DO. IT WAS A PLEASURE MEETING THE MEMBER AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE OF SERVICE IN THE FUTURE.

Bruce responded promptly to our inquiry and arrived on time to inspect the site and make an estimate/proposal. He does charge for estimates ($65). The work was scheduled for the same week that he received our deposit check. Although we had photos that were taken during the construction of the house, there were elements inside the wall that were not visible in the photos, so the job was more complicated than expected. There was no extra charge. Bruce and his drywall man were both very conscientious about showing up on time, putting in a full day's work, doing a thorough job, and cleaning up afterwards. We found Bruce to be both friendly and professional.
Description of Work: From Bruce's proposal: The work we discussed entails: moving / covering furniture and flooring, removing framing and drywall in threshold to proposed pipe organ site, installing a 2x6 base plate, drywall, corner bead, joint tape and compound, re-applying / sanding, priming and two finish coats then clean up.

I supplied the shingles for the roof job; he used nails and not staples. My property is very overgrown so he had to clear a path so that the trucks could get to the house. He very assiduously followed my instructions. I was very pleased with the work. He did a first-class job. He went above and beyond and did extra things without charging me. He removed two failed refrigerators out of my basement for me. He proved to be competent and fair. The experience was very good.
Description of Work: Caulked, prepped, sanded, power washed, and removed paint, then primed one coat and two coats of paint, stripped old roof and put a new roof, ridge vents, and drip edges. He had to put oriented strand board instead of plywood which was more suitable. custom built a door, opening to a crawl space using pressure treated timber.

I am in the Foreign Service and own a condo that due to the overseas nature of my job, is more of a rental than my primary home. I had several ideas for improving it, but quite a limited budget. Bruce kindly talked me through several of my ideas and gave me suggestions on how to make my money go the furthest. While he could've just gone with my own ideas, the more expensive options, instead he offered me many money saving tips that will add value to my home, but leave me with a little more cash! I haven't had the work done yet, but look forward to having Bruce and his team install a new kitchen and office floor for me!
Description of Work: A few days after filling in the on-line form, I phoned Bruce to follow up on coming to my home for an estimate. To my great surprise, was able to come that same night! He arrived punctually and not only looked at all the jobs I had to do; replace a kitchen and office floor, patch some dry-wall in a bathroom and possibly convert a kitchen wall into a bar, but he also took it upon himself to install an under the counter microwave that I'd been struggling with for months for FREE! What a great guy!

Working with Bruce Moose was the most positive home improvement experience we have ever had. When we first called him about the project, he spoke with us immediately and came to our house the next day to give us an estimate. He discussed various options, and was happy to work with us to ensure that the projects would fall within our budget. Bruce and his assistant arrived at our house 20 minutes early on the day the work was to be completed, and then proceeded to work non-stop (no breaks!) for 11 hours until the projects were finished. The result was fantastic. The new ceiling looked wonderful, especially considering part of the ceiling was curved, making drywalling more difficult. Despite the surprises behind the old built-ins in the office, he went above and beyond to fix everything. He and his assistant cleaned everything up, both inside and out, and left everything spotless. I can't tell you how much we appreciated his promptness and dedication to doing everything right.
Description of Work: We had two projects that we needed assistance with: replacing a ceiling in an upstairs guest bedroom (which we were turning into a nursery) and converting a basement office into a new guest bedroom. The nursery ceiling had peeling paint that was falling off in large chips. Bruce looked at the ceiling and discussed the options (sanding or scraping the paint, or simply redrywalling the ceiling) and informed us that the most cost-effective option would be new drywall. The office project necessitated ripping out carpet, built-in bookcases and a desk. We weren't exactly sure what shape the walls were in behind the built-ins. When Bruce removed them, it was clear that whoever had installed them had done a shoddy job: what little framing there was had been cut in pieces for the built-ins, there was gravel and dirt behind them, etc. Bruce reframed and re-drywalled the walls, cleaned up the dirt, and hauled the carpet and bookshelf materials away.

Bruce was punctual and put in a lot of work on the 2+ days it took to complete the project. The framing and some of the drywall was finished on the first day, in which Bruce put in 12 hours and his assistant 10 hours. Once the electrical work was finished, Bruce and his assistant returned for another 10-hour day. They were professional throughout the job, cleaning up afterwards. The quality of the job was first rate, and was ready for painting when they finished. Bruce was customer centric, flexible, and generous. On his first day on the job, he dealt with a frozen pipe and helped push my wife's car out of a snowbank. On his next day, he pointed out a problem with the garage door configuration. He also sold me some materials at cost and provided my with 3-4 gallons of primer at no cost. I highly recommend Bruce.

First of all, from coming over to do the estimate to scheduling the work, Bruce went out of his way to make time for us. His rates are not low, but you get what you pay for. When he came to do the estimate, he gave the site a thorough examination, noted problems and potential problems in detail, and also inspected our new and shoddily-installed sump pump to make sure it would actually keep the area dry. He juggled his schedule to make time for us the following Saturday, without charging weekend rates. He arrived precisely when he said he would, wasted absolutely no time, did exactly what we'd agreed on in a very neat, clean, and professional way, and then went ahead and repaired the hole in the adjoining wall, without charging extra, just because he's a nice guy. His work is excellent and he's the most efficient carpenter/construction person I've ever met. He didn't cut any corners, he stayed until everything was finished to satisfaction, and then he left the area clean.
Description of Work: Repaired a 14' wall that had been badly ripped up by waterproofers. Replaced drywall with greenboard, had to build a special frame to accommodate drain tile edging and also installed a board to adapt the existing built-ins to the new wall dimensions, and repaired damaged wiring behind the wall. Also repaired a part of the adjoining wall that was damaged but was not part of the contract, at no extra charge.
Very well! Bruce responded immediately to my email request, scheduled an appointment to assess the project, showed up on time, presented a proposal, scheduled the work, kept in phone contact to inform me of schedule changes, supplies I needed to purchase, etc. He showed up when he said he would and finished the job in record time. I would highly recommend him!

Bruce has not yet completed the work but I can't wait to do a report because he has been so great. He arrived on time for his 1st appointment. We went over the work to be done and agreed on the basic scope of the work and the rate. He has shown up promptly, done quality work, and has many ideas to cut your costs. He is honest and pleasant. Because he charges an hourly rate (although I think he does a lot off the clock) it is cheaper to get the materials yourself, but if he gets them he does not tack on a profit to the material's cost. He gives you his opinion but doesn't bully you, he is perfectly willing to do it your way. On his way up the stairs, he stopped to fix a wobbly railing just because he's a nice guy and saw that it needed doing. He has done tiling, laminate, some plumbing and electrical, so far. If it is something he can't handle (we had a carpet edging issue), he'll let you know and suggest someone for you. He's great, book him quickly.
Description of Work: We are still in progress but Bruce has repaired and tiled the master bath shower, begun laying laminate in basement and replaced several light fixtures.

At first, I was put off by the fact that Bruce charges his hourly rate for estimates. So, we paid for an hour so he could come out and look at the basement and tell us it was a four hour job. Both times he showed up promptly (to the minute). He did about 3.5 hours of intense work, and was on the job site for 4 hours exactly. I was happy with his work and would hire him for handyman jobs again. One word of caution, if he needs supplies for his work, its best to have him get them himself b/c I got inaccurate information from him and ended up running to the hardware store several times in an attempt to get correct plumbing parts.
Description of Work: Bruce did the partial demolition on our 7 ft x 5.5 ft basement bathroom. This included ripping down some studs, plywood and drywall walls, taking out a cast iron tub and capping some plumbing lines.

Bruce did an excellent job on every project I hired him to do. His work was done on time, and he offered creative solutions to my home repair and remodeling jobs. He worked above and beyond to get the job done within my time frame. He is well spoken and accommodating in meeting my requirements. I highly recommend him. The cost breakdown of these jobs is as follows: Utility Room Conversion - $6,500; Laminate flooring in basement - $2,300; Laminate flooring in kitchen - $1,100; Remodel bathroom - $12,000; Remodel kitchen - $4,500.
Description of Work: Bruce of BruceMoose.com converted my utility room into an office, installed new laminate flooring in the entire basement (including a bathroom), replaced light fixtures and installed new maple laminate flooring in the kitchen. He also remodeled the bathroom and kitchen in my vacation home in addition to painting and general repairs.
