They're absolutely the best. Compared to other retirement communities, I believe that you get the best deal for your money. In other words for the services you get, you can't beat the monthly fee in the whole of Northern Virginia.

My parents lived at Greenspring for 6 years in Independent Living. We also used the the Skilled Nursing home for rehab. The residents and staff at Greenspring are very friendly. And, the social interaction and activities for seniors is very good. However, Erickson went bankrupt several years ago and the new company is more about making money than providing excellent service. Services have declined over the last couple of years. They also changed the 100% refundable entrance deposit to 90%.
Care at the nursing home and rehab is poorly coordinated. They have a lot of CNA's with minimal training and poor communication. There has been a lot staff turnover in the health care team, and the excellent physicians who used to be there have left. Unfortunately, it's a place I used to recommend, but in it's current state can no longer recommend to friends and neighbors.

Greenspring campus is a large, security controlled complex with several buildings and a church. Residents can arrange for a variety of care levels. The maintenance of the grounds, both inside and outside, are top notch and food is good. The residents seem to be happy to be in the complex, though it does help to get off once in a while. The staff is mostly friendly and all folks seem to like working there. There are a wide variety of services available but everything does come at a price. Greenspring's prices are at the high end for independent and assisted care facilities in the DC area, but units are in high demand.

I think the pricing was reasonable. We've been using them for years. I think they do a pretty good job with our yard. We have small weeds here and there but I think that's normal and we're not proactive enough to really call them to come back and treat those but our yard is one of the better looking yards in the neighborhood. Our neighbor on our left side is all weeds and they do a good job of preventing those weeds from encroaching in our yard.

The facility is excellent and it's a very pleasant place to be if you have to be in a place like that. It is tastefully decorated and the food is excellent. The staff is very good as well. They also have a very good physical therapist staff.

Family member in the asst living unit for 2 years and long-term care for 7 months to date. When a private duty aide was hired for 14 hours/day,, NO staff came into her room. The aide provided all care. After 3 months, Greenspring insisted she move to long-term care. The care on long-term care unit has been horrible. The toilet has had dried feces on it. Despite complaints, it happened again 5 months later. The environment is unclean and unhygienic. Clothes were missing in June 2012. Again in Nov 2012 the problem resurfaced, this time with many more items missing. Greenspring does not take measures to correct problems long-term. They remain chronic. The CNAs need additional training for problem solving skills. Customer service is poor. The nursing staff rarely say hi or make eye contact. I have experienced positive interactions with the social worker on the long term care unit, but not on the asst living unit.. I would not recommend this facility.

It was a wonderful place. They were very caring people. The facility was lovely. The environment was great. The food was delicious. There was no problem with any of the staff. I had been seeing many places for my mom but there was nothing as nice as Greenspring Village.

Greenspring Village is an independent and assisted care complex in Springfield Virginia. All care staff from the guards at the gates to the office and maintenance workers are caring and helpful. Facilities are top notch and all the grounds and apartments are kept up wonderfully. Food services is excellent with plenty of variety and selection. All this does come with a price tag that is on the high end, but in my estimation worth the price especially if a parent is involved. Apartments are hard to come by so get on the waiting list a year in advance. Residents are happy and friendly.
