Grout Masters of Virginia

They did not respond in a timely manner. When they did, they never provided an estimate. They said they "didn't feel comfortable working with marble," but my tile is porcelain. It isn't even marble. Strange encounter. Would not use. They didn't seem interested in my job at all. Perhaps it was too small.

The Grout Masters (GM) team showed up on time and diagnosed the issue as we had suspected. After carefully disassembling the seat (about a 48' by 20" seated area) and removing all the tile they determined the seat had never been properly sloped to assure run off (we can fully confirm that one) and that the builder had not used blue board (a rigid foundational board used to adhere tile with greater stability and a much better adhesion than textured and treated plywood). The GM team rebuilt the seated area and resloped the seat to assure good drainage then replaced and regrouted all the tile. From personal experience to remove about 30 pieces of tile including 8 with a bullnose is not an easy task without breaking one. The GM team uses flat trowels and vibration units to successfully removed replace the tile, then match the grout and rebuild the seat. As a precaution they rerouted, recaulked all the seams for the shower. A significant task as I am disabled and this is a two person roll in shower roughly 5 feet by 7 feet plus the seated area. The easy part was the floor tiles R&R. Upon completion of the work they cleaned all of the spaces which had been worked on. GM was insistent that if we had any issues or reoccurrence of the leak to call them as they stand by all of their work. I will definitely use them again if required. Highly recommended.

The two people who came did a wonderful job of taking the old grout out and regrouted the tiles in the kitchen. They even caulked granite counter of the kitchen when they saw the original caulking was wearing out.

They are good a grouting, but lack attention to detail. At the end of the work there was "gap" that did not contain grout. When I pointed it out, they filled it with caulk. They did not caulk all the areas they needed to caulk. My husband had to finish the caulking and the idea was to pay for them to finish grout, caulk, alcove tiles. When it comes to tiling, they will do well on unorthodox, easy to install tiles. However, when it comes to fancy, not your average tile, they lack experience and willingness to work with new tiles in the market. I had some new glass design and it was a compliant from the beginning. They strongly suggested to not put the glass tile in the alcove. I wanted to accommodate and make their work easier so I had to run around to find a bull nose tile. At the end I had to get something from the store that was ok, but not exactly what I wanted. That is on me. I should have been more assertive and ask them to not do the work they do not know how to do. The glass door install was good, but it took them hours and still my husband had to fix some stuff. They did not have the correct drill bit to drill a hole in porcelain tile. Ultimately, Dale decide to go to the store to buy a drill bit. I asked them to install a towel rack. They did not succeed and the remedy was to put a bundle of clear calk to stick it to the wall (which was disclosed). When my husband removed it to fix it, they have broken the drywall behind one of the the anchors (3/4'" hole) (which was not disclosed). Ultimately, due to their lack of expertise other than grouting, they charged me $150 extra (which I paid). My husband was not happy. If you want to contract them to grout, go ahead, just make sure they they pay attention to detail. Maybe they would do regular ceramic tile well, but not outside this scope. I do not recommend them for anything else. As matter of fact, Dale indicated that after this job, they will not be doing anymore bathroom glass doors anymore. That is wise.

Fantastic service and work. This is the second time we have used Grout Masters, and I will call them again. I setup an appointment with him for an estimate and he was on time and professional. The work was fantastic. Removing grout creates a lot of dust, and they did a great job minimizing it and cleaning up. The grout work is excellent. My wife's comment is that it is like getting a new bathroom.

Dale responded punctually to both provide an estimate and to perform the work. He and his assistant, Kevin, were very professional and courteous. I actually added the master bath shower stall at the last minute while they were doing the hall bath. They were more than happy to accommodate. They wanted to ensure that I was satisfied. They really take pride in their work and are true Masters in their trade. I would definitely recommend the Grout Masters.

Grout Masters was very easy to work with. Arrived on time, removed old grout efficiently and reinstalled providing a very professional look. Also reinstalled sealant around shower doors. Very professional and accommodating. Will reuse them again and highly recommend them.

I could not be more pleased with Grout Masters of Virginia and Dale Owens. Dale was in timely contact with me after the Angie's List Deal purchase and we agreed on a date. He called early and said he was done with his previous job early and could come over right away which was great. It was raining this morning so both men gladly removed there shoes before going upstairs (carpeted) and to the bathroom. One corner of my shower has at least a 1/4 inch gap between the bottom tile and the shower pan. Dale offered to use a better grout brand that has sand mixed in with it for the job as he said that works better for those type of gaps - he could have used the standard stuff and never told me. I considered this a true professional service. They cleaned up well after themselves, were polite and professional. Highly recommend.

On time for appointment. Fast and efficient. Very pleased with the results. Removed several layers of old/mildewed caulk from tub and tub/floor joint. Cleaned tile and recaulked entire area. Would definitely use them again.

Scheduling was good and prompt given that it was a deal coupon (sometimes small businesses get overwhelmed with coupon purchasers and never get back to you). They scheduled the work quickly and the estimate was fair, not a great bargain but they were not trying to rip us off. Total amount of work was about 8 hours (split in 2 days) and they did a fine job replacing a few loose tiles, redoing the grout and caulking up a pretty dingy/mildewy/overlycaulked standing shower. The reason why it's not A is because they didn't remind/warn us to remove all the things in the bathroom and maybe even cover up surfaces with sheets prior to grinding up all the grout. I'm not demanding that they move our stuff for us or even wipe down the counters and clean the floors when they were all done, but they are the pros and they should have given us the heads up that this was messy work. The bathroom was very clean before they got there and very dusty/gritty when they left... But don't misinterpret this criticism, they were good. Just not excellent. There was some stuff related to payment that made me mark them "B" for professionalism, but not bad enough to type it all out here. Again, they are good and professional, just not "excellent". I'd use them again and would recommend to neighbors.

I wasn't 100% happy. They did it fast which is fast. I didn't mind if they came back but they didn't want to come back. They didn't totally caulked everything so I had to go back and do that myself. I can put the grout sealer on it, I know how to do that but I painted it on. I've never done anything else before and they said they didn't want to come back and put the sealer on because you have to wait for a day. They gvae me a bottle of it and said I could spray it on. I said, really. They said, just spray it on and its fine. Well, its not fine. I'm still trying to get the energy back up to strip it and reseal it the way I intended to originally. The sealer dries really fast and I've never heard of spraying it. I'm not a professional and I don't do this all the time so I did it and that was a big mistake. Its going to cost me a lot of time and effort to get the tile back to being clean completely without that film on it. In the process its going to come off the grout as well so I'm going to have to come back and paint it back into the grout. After that, I started doing some research and finding that people haven't had very good success with spraying it on like that. I wouldn't do that again. I guess the grouts not going to come off so that's fine. It wasn't really finished, I should have made sure it was. The price was good because it was a super deal and it wasn't their price, it was Angie's List. I called twice and never got a call back. They were here on time the one time. They were punctual the one time they had to be here. If I recommended them I would tell people, if you get this deal, don't get the whole deal, if it means that they have to come back, they have to come back. Don't take it on yourself, don't do anything that you didn't sign up for.

I had been given a recommendation for Dale from a friend who is pretty particular, so I expected him to do a good job. He came and gave me a written estimate with an Angie's List discount. The work proceeded as planned. Things took a little longer than expected because more loose tiles had to be pulled up and replaced than he expected ... in the end I think they reset at least 20-25 large tiles in the kitchen, and all of these had to have the old grout ground off the back and the sub-flooring screwed down. We were very pleased with the entire job ... no complaints. I think the price was very fair given the size of the job. I heartily recommend Grout Masters of Virgina.

I'm very pleased with the work. The shower looks like it's almost new and the price was very fair, as we purchased the deal for $400 of services for $350. Dale is excellent to work with and I would use this company again in the future.

We were very pleased with Dale and his partner. They completed regrouting two small bathrooms in a day, returning a few days later to add the sealer. They performed the hard work of removing the old grout and adding the new grout in about 7 hours. It would have taken us two weeks! In addition, they worked with me on selecting the best color and made a few changes in the color in the corners of the shower stall to make it look more finished. One other nice thing, Dale alerted us to an Angie's List coupon which saved us money. We appreciated that.

Everything went smoothly. I received a visit on a Sunday for the look-over and estimate. Agreed to the price. An employee showed up the following Thursday to perform most of the work. The tile had to set for one day, so he returned the next day to complete it.

Dale did a great job. I appreciate the fact he took on a small job. Many contractors today won't even return phone calls for big jobs let alone a small one. He is very personable and professional. While this was a simple job, Dale still asked questions to ensure he understood exactly what I wanted done. He even attempted to clean a marble surface above and beyond what I asked for, but could not do so without damaging the finish (natural stone).

They made it look like new. I would recommend them to a friend.

Dale and his assistant performed a suberb, meticulous, attention to detail job. Very courteous, very punctual. We went to home depot picked out the tiles and Dale and his team installed. Extremely happy with results. Will definitly use these folks again.

Mr. Owens was very responsive to my request for an estimate. Explained what needed to happen to correct the problem. Gave me a very fair estimate and scheduled the work to be done. On the day of service, he was prompt. Went to work on the grout project right away and finished early. He cleaned the area up like he was never there and the tile and bathroom looked like it was brand new. Explained everything that was performed, gave me instructions as to when the bath could be used again, and then coordinated his next day visit to seal the grout and tiles. I am very very happy with the work performed an am looking forward to using him again on a second bathroom that was not an urgent repair.
