Background: I’m a military member who moved to the DMV from California and have 10 years of riding experience. I recently had over $3,000 worth of work (including customization) performed on my limited edition 2007 Ducati 1098s Tricolore by another shop (certified Ducati Tech) outside the beltway and decided to give Coleman a chance due to the convenience of their location – BIG MISTAKE. I recently changed the battery; however, the front turn signals were flashing erratically and the rear turn signals did not flash at all. I needed to pass a base safety inspection the beginning of August and needed it fixed asap. Situation: On June 25th, I rode to Coleman to see if someone could take a quick look at my problem. Their service technician tells me he is a certified Ducati Tech, but can’t be bothered dealing with fairings (1st Warning Sign)…recommended I change out fuses. I took his advice, but that didn’t solve the problem. Spent several days calling their service department, leaving messages, and never received a call back (2nd Warning Sign). Called back on July 15th and finally spoke to someone who told me I had to wait a whole week to bring it in. I bring it in on July 22nd and decide to have some other issues fixed (Electrical – Alarm/Turn Signal, Overheating-Stall issue, Faulty Fuel Indicator). David Watts tells me I should call by that Monday if I don’t hear from them. Not hearing from them, I gave them extra time and called on Friday, July 29th. Spoke to Marshall who said I needed a new fuel sensor and they needed more time to figure out the turn signal. He said they would call me back…nothing heard. On August 3rd, I called back and they told me Marshall would call me back….ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I told them not to bother and have my bike ready for pick-up the next day, Thursday, August 4th. Solution: Never do business with this place!!! They have no concept of a customer’s lifetime value. They have not respect for your time and riding opportunities during the riding season. You and your money deserve better treatment from a Ducati shop! I highly recommend Battley Cycles. They are outside the beltway, but worth any inconvenience of distance. Not only do they know how to answer the phone, but they also return emails! [*** Link removed ***]
Description of Work: ***APPALLING*** describes my experience with this shop. They cheated me out of $315.25 by calling it “Diagnostics”, stole 2 weeks of riding time from me, and insulted my intelligence and riding experience by fixing nothing!!! Problem: While I’ve never been charged for diagnostics at any Ducati shop I’ve been to before or I’m charged one price for full diagnostics on my car, I fully expected to not pay a diagnostic fee for items that were repaired. They kept my bike for 2 weeks with no communication, completed no repairs (by their choosing, not mine), and still charged me $315.25 to get my bike back! Amazingly, David Watts tried to justify their actions. They charged me $110.00 to give me their professional opinion that the rear turn signal does not work and the wires are a “Complete Mess”. The rear turn signals were professionally installed by a certified Ducati Tech. They charged me $121.97 to turn the bike on and WATCH it run to see if it overheats and stalls (of course it didn’t). They charged me $55.00 to tell me, what I told them, that I needed the fuel sensor replaced…and THEY made the decision to not replace it. I authorized all repair work when I dropped the bike off…that was the whole point. As a result, I failed my safety inspection and they have no problem sending you on the road--UNSAFE.

Won't be calling them again!
Description of Work: I called them several days ago, left a message for the service I needed and never heard back. The message specifically says not to leave more than 1 message. Don't worry, I won't call again.

I brought my motorcycle to Coleman Powersports (Falls Church) service department to diagnose and repair an issue while I was going on vacation for a couple weeks. They said it would be ready to pickup shortly before I got back. when I got back, they said the issue was that the carbs needed to be cleaned, so they waited for my authorization to do any work and only stored my bike while I was away. No big deal, except they estimated the cost to clean the carbs at $1100! They must have picked up on my lack of knowledge about motorcycles and mechanics in general because I got a second opinion and that mechanic said my carbs were in great condition and even if they did need cleaning, it should only cost about $400! I have since been to a third mechanic who also hasn't thought my carbs needed any cleaning until recently (2.5 years later). I have had numerous good experiences with Coleman Powersports' other departments in both Falls Church and Woodbridge. I sometimes buy parts and gear there, but they will never touch my bike again.
Description of Work: Coleman Powersports service department (Falls Church location) falsely told me I needed my carbs cleaned. They estimated the cost to be roughly $700 more than any other mechanic charges. I refused service and two other mechanics said my carbs were in great condition and that even if they did need to be cleaned, they would have been happy to do it for less than half of what Coleman Powersports wanted to charge me. My final bill was about $100 since I refused service (to store my bike while they came up with their lie), but all I got from that $100 was a big lie.

The generator works really well. They were interesting. Being a middle-aged white woman, they don't really look that I would know anything about that, though I did have some things to ask them and they listened. We did take it back to have to have something replaced under warranty and they did it very quickly. When my husband went to look at it, he bought right away, he had some questions and they seemed knowledgeable about their things. I would deal with them again. They are in the neighborhood, they are not somebody we have to go drive across the town and we value that. Based on my experience, they listen, they know their product and their service is appropriate in terms of the time, the drop off, the pickup and all that. Their turnaround time is good. Their price is fair because otherwise, my husband probably wouldn't have purchased it there and he does his research on everything before he buys anything. It is a good product and it is easy to use. It is not big for a generator, so I could pick it up and use it, and even I can run it, so it is pretty interesting. One day when we went over there to fix something up, we had to stand around there and wait on somebody who came out finally and he had a piece of pizza, which we thought was not very appropriate.
Description of Work: We bought a Honda generator from Coleman Power Sports.

Coleman's is a great shop; they always know what they're doing and stand behind their work. I've used them for several motorcycles, my dirtbikes, and atv's and their the best in the area; but they ain't cheap (:

Generally, I was satisfied. I thought that the price was expensive, but next time I would check quotes from other companies first, but their's did come in $100 under estimate. I had to wait a week for parts to come in, which I didn't expect from a specialized shop.
Description of Work: They did an engine flush, review of tubing connections, adjustment of choke, and an oil/filter change.

Work was done excellently, promptly and for less than originally estimated. I was also provided a detailed write-up of the work performed and an assessment of the condition of the major parts of my motorcycle. This level of customer-orientation and service is well above the norm in the motorcycle repair industry. I highly recommend Mr. McKee and his service department.
Description of Work: Major service to my 2000 Kawaski Vulcan. The service that was performed was arrived in consultation with Service Manager Heath McKee and designed to address the major areas of my bike that I could not service regulary by myself. This was the only department of many that I contacted that would entertain my request.

I realized the helmet was defective the next day and attempted to exchange it. The refused to do anything but send it back to the manufacturer even though it was defective out of the box. After spending $350 on it, I have to wait 4-6 weeks for a new helmet??? I will never purchase another thing from them and will find every venue possible to warn people that they do not stand behind the products they sell.
