Hodges Windows & Doors

Haven't heard back from them so they evidently don't need my business.

I got estimates from 5 different companies. They were very up front. Their price was in the middle. They were also close. All of the employees work directly for the company. The work wasn't subbed out. All the installers work for the company and the products are guaranteed for life. They did an amazing job. They were even able to put my glass outer door back on for free. The windows are great. They are vinyl and are rated environmentally. I don't hear sound any more. I think they did a very good job. I will go back to them in a heartbeat.

Frank was here on time to take a look at what we needed and present us with options. We had a pretty good idea of what we wanted and he was able to recommend additional choices. We received a written quote within three days and he was able to make adjustments to the specifications quickly and easily. Once we decided to go ahead with Hodges Frank came out, collected a deposit and financing information and within a few days their measurement guy came out to make sure all measurements were exact. We've been kept up to date on order status and estimated delivery/installation time since then. We're about 4-5 weeks out from installation at the moment.

Exceptional. Rafael Lobos was my salesperson and was extremely professional. He ran two estimates and showed me the difference in cost between replacement windows and new installation windows, which was just a couple thousand dollars. I chose the new installation windows because there's no reduction in glass area as there is with replacement windows. Rafael also told me about a 1 year same-as-cash financing offer, which I took advantage of. Rafael truly defines the best aspects of a salesperson, which is to represent the interests of the customer to the company and structure the sale to benefit both of us. He did exactly that. I received 4 bids total from on the job - Hodges was very competitive with their bid and specified Andersen Windows, which I wanted based on their ratings in Consumer Reports. One bid I had received was nearly double the cost of Hodges and didn't use a brand-name window such as Andersen, Pella, or Marvin. The estimated time to complete was 4 days. 3 dormer windows on the house had wood that needed replaced around the window that was exposed only when the old windows were removed. The foreman replaced that wood with no additional cost. The total time to complete was 5 full days, likely because of the additional wood replacement. The two installers were extremely professional, punctual, polite and CLEAN. Some dust, but they kept it to a minimum and dust mopped up after themselves. One of the nicest parts of the job is I didn't have to monitor the details. The windows were the right level to meet the Energy Tax Credit, the bill of sale had the right numbers and financing on it. The installers were right there when expected. There was not the slightest glitch, and even when the wood repair was needed, the installers basically "rolled with it" and took care of the problem. One Note: I also prepped the house, moving all furniture out of the way and removing blinds in preparation, which made the job go a lot smoother. I believe we homeowners have a responsibility to make our jobs go smoothly.

Salesman was pleasant and professional. Chose company because of several very positive recommendations from neighbors. Storm door did not latch without a hard pull and leaked air. Front door was not caulked on one interior side, nail holes were not filled in on interior side in molding, paint on door was chipped, molding above door was not reinstalled properly and cold air was pouring in. After complaint, Hodges sent repairman who fixed air leak with storm door but door does not latch automatically. He applied more caulk to molding above door but did not reset molding to its proper position. Very disappointed.

I called Friday, March 20, 2009 and made an appointment with Raphael for Monday, March 23, 2009. Raphael did not show up for the appointment. I called and left a voice message asking what the problem was. I did not receive a call back. I called again on Tuesday asking what the problem was and hoping that it could be easily explained so that I could continue to do business with Hodges. Well, the problem was easily explained. Raphael forgot to write down the appointment. He had no other explanation than that and I lost all confidence in his ability to perform any work for me.

I have had several jobs done by The Hodges Company over the years including installation of new windows on the entire townhouse. The Hodges Company installation personnel did a supurb job with maximum attention to detail as they have with all the work they have done for us. The salesman also did an excellent job and was forthright with all the details of the transaction and followed up on all aspects of the job.

The windows are not what I'd thought they would be. They are similar to what I had and they are not built as well. These are fine. The price was good. They were punctual and clean-up well.

The installation itself was stellar - the crew had to work in miserable conditions (freezing temps + rain), but never complained, showed up exactly on time, did exactly what we were expecting, and cleaned up so that you would never have known they'd been there (except for the beautiful new windows we got). The original meeting with Mr. Lobos was very professional, selection of the windows very easy since we wanted simple and easy to clean from the inside of the house with good energy factors. In between there were issues - we had to place a number of phone calls to find out what was going on with the order (windows were about 2 weeks late but no one called us to tell us).

I bought a foreclosure and the windows were really in bad shape. The old windows didn't shut properly. They were very helpful on the kind of windows I was looking for and they were very professional. When the windows came in, they promptly set up an appt. were right on time and cleaned up after themselves. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone.

Brian Whitehouse, the sales rep, was very helpful and responsive throughout the process. The installation crew arrived right on time and did a great job following very specific directions and requirements and leaving the site cleaner than they found it. Very satisfied with the door and the install. I would have had Hodges install 28 new windows on my house but they were not able to offer the specific window I needed.

Our entire experience was good, from meeting with the salesman, Frank Gugino, to negotiating the terms to visiting their showroom to installation of the doors. We were provided with many references from door work performed in our area, which helped us decide on Hodges. They met the best price for products and provided the best financing options. They met their initial commitment to have the doors installed by their own staff (not subcontractors) within 5-6 weeks. The two staff members that installed the doors were friendly and professional and did a good job of cleaning up after themselves. The doors look and work great. We wish we had done this years ago. The only minor irritant is that we were told that the workers would be at our home at 7:30am. So we woke up extra early. Unfortunately, they scheduled a staff meeting for the morning of our door installations and did not call us in advance to let us know. It wasn't until we called their office at 8:15 that we found out the workers would not be out until 9:30 or so due to the meeting. So, this could have been communicated to us the day before. Again, only a very minor irritation.

They came out within 24 hours. Their prices were great. The customer service was good all around.

After deciding on this company, I had to pester the sales guy at every point along the process to get him to do his job. I requested an example picture of the door and the drawing. The sales guy said he could not provide a picture, he did provide the CAD drawing. I was hoping he would try to contact the manufacturer of the door for a picture, but he did not seem interested. After ordering the door, he refused to schedule the job until after he had received the door, saying he might ?jinx? it and the door would never come. The sales guy did not inform the installers that the door was not at ground level meaning everyone had to sit around and wait for another guy to arrive so that they could hoist the door up to the patio. After the installers removed my existing door, they noticed that the new door was too small for the whole. As you can imagine, I was very freaked out by this. (The salesman told me, but I had forgotten; the installers were not aware of this). We eventually learned (after much nail biting & phone calling), that the sales guy did not inform the installers that the door had been ordered too small on purpose so that it would match the other doors, and they would have to build it in. That meant they didn't have any of the wood pre-cut that they would need in order to build it in, and had to cut right then on the job. Basically, the sales guy put both me, and the installers in a very unpleasant situation due to his lack of initiative and communication. I felt badly for the installers also, because that was a lot of completely avoidable stress they had to go through.

This was the most frustrating experience I have had with a contractor in a long time. We decided to go with Hodges even though their estimate was a little more than the other firms we looked at because the sales rep gave us the impression that they were more professional/experienced. Both the sales rep & the person scheduling the work assured us that the work would be completed in one day-the sales rep even said that if they needed to send two teams out they would. When the single team of two installers arrived, one of the first things they did was to inform me that since they only work until 2:00 pm they would not be able to finish in one day. As it turns out, it took a total of about 4 days!! The first problem we encountered was that the Hodges person who took the measurements totally screwed up the measurements for the double hung windows-the new ones were a total of about 7 inches too narrow & about 4 inches too short. Of course this was only discovered after the old windows were removed. The second problem was that the new double hung windows came as a single unit rather than 2 windows (which is what we ordered) so if anything happened to one of them in the future we would have to replace both. Even when they reordered them in the right size they came fused together as a single unit again. We finally gave up & settled with Hodges writing us a warranty that would mean we would not have to pay for 2 windows if something happened to one of them. One of the casement windows was incorrect & had to be reordered. When the new one came in it was not working & had to be reordered again. Even though we ordered full screens, the windows came twice with half screens & the screens had to be reordered yet again. Clearly there is a problem between Hodges & the window supplier. All of these problems meant that I had to take off multiple days from work. There were other problems too. The sales rep indicated that they would be able to give the vinyl cladding around the windows some contour to make it look better. The installers then told me that in that situation they would not be able to do that. When they did put the vinyl cladding on the windows the person who did it either did not have the experience or was careless because it looked terrible & I had to call them to come back out & fix it, which they did, but it was just one more hassle. Overall, I believe we paid more & received less than we would have from another firm. Throughout the process Hodges made no attempt to give us a discount or in any way try to compensate us for the amount of extra time I had to take off from work due to their errors. It seemed like the company was not too worried about keeping out future business, even though the sales rep knew that we will be replacing the rest of our windows in the next year or two. I will not use this company again & will not recommend it to anyone!

Kind of hard to do work if you cant show up.

Very positive experience, very responsive company. Salesman was straightforward, no-nonsense, very fair. All staff were excellent, very competent and very nice people. Promised full satisfaction and kept promise. However, the windows were not ready within the estimated time period. Wonderful to work with.

The workmanship was superior. The doors look great and we love the retractable screens. The bay window took some creative crafting to build it under a retractable awning and it is taller than the original windows. All the windows look great. On the down side, communication from the company was lacking. The order took longer than estimated for both the windows/doors and, separately, the screens. I had to initiate contact to determine status. I wanted electrical work done on the deck and went with the recommendation of the Hodges salesman. It was my understanding that he would coordinate the work between the door installers and the electrician. No coordination was done and resulted in a lot of difficulty for all concerned. Everything was finally completed but could have been done more easily with better communication.

Their prices are very competitive with other companies we have checked out. They have a showroom with a lot of samples which was very helpful. They are very personable to deal with. The sales person was willing to meet with me and he talked me through a lot. They have been very flexible.

Chose them because they were highly rated on AL and price quote was substantially less than competitors. Salesman was personable and knowledgeable (I had some peculiar complications with one door). Placed order in early July, estimated time to start work was 5 weeks. Installation took place after almost 12 weeks, and only after I called to inquire about my order. The doors were there, but no one called me to schedule the installation (hence the low rating on responsiveness). Both estimator (in July) and installer (in September) were punctual, early actually. Installer was knowledgeable and experienced. Did a great job. Was happy with the experience overall with the exception of the extreme delay. The doors look great.

Everything went well, from the estimating visit to the measurement visit, to the work being performed in less than a half day.

My experience with them was good. Everything was fine. He seemed knowledgeable. He answered all of my questions. ($5,000.00)

The initial installers were in a hurry. They seemed very knowledgeable and reliable, but they didn't do a good job. They did send a guy out who helped me and made it right. They put the hinge on wrong though.

It took three weeks to get the door back from the home improvement store before they could put it in. When the house was built the contractor made the door frame very small, plus we did not have a storm door at all.
