I was given a written estimate for the remodel of my ?Jack and Jill? bathroom. This bathroom is the only one in the house that has a shower and tub. I was very clear in stating that the shower was the most important part of the bathroom and that I didn?t mind being without a shower for a few days but it need to be done quick and correctly. At the time of the estimate I also indicated that I wanted to purchase all the major materials to include the tub, sink, vanity, tile and accessories. Official Handyman was originally supposed to start on a Tuesday, but they never confirmed that with me. I received a VoiceMail Tuesday evening stating they would be there on Wednesday. Wednesday they didn?t start but called and wanted to start on Thursday. I specifically said if I was going to be without my shower all weekend to start on Monday. They confirmed they would work the weekend, at least Saturday. They picked up the check on Saturday and did not perform any work. On Monday to ?make up? for not showing up on Saturday, they installed tile that they wanted me to have not the provided materials. This was tile that I absolutely despised. I received zero phone calls though the course of this and this ?gift? was not cleared by me. They also begin to install their own faucets, not the ones I provided and had left in the bathroom. Tuesday they removed the tile and began to replace it with the materials I provided. They also began to lay the tile floor. On Wednesday I stopped in on my lunch break and discovered that there was zero supervision being provided to the actual workers. This explained why one of my ceramic tile shelves was being installed about 6? from the ceiling in the shower. After I showed them that I couldn?t possibly reach that shelf especially if I was wet, I showed them where to install them and provided 10 minutes worth of guidance that I was paying Official Handyman for. By Friday, after working 14 straight days, I returned home in the evening and the workers were still there ?finishing up?. I received another ?gift? of a 3? beige threshold up against white tile. I immediately called their ?supervisor? and told him to have them hang the shower curtain rod and get out of my house. I would deal with the awful threshold next week. Once again I worked both Saturday and Sunday and it wasn?t until Sunday evening when I finally got to use my new shower. It was then that I discovered that tile job looked as if kindergarteners without any adult supervision had done it. The tile was uneven both vertically and horizontally, each tile resided on its own plane. Some were as much as ?? inch out of line from the one beside it. There were large areas that grout was missing and the caulking along the tub was beige against white. My only guess is that these materials were left over from another job. The floor tile was just as bad with being out of level, crooked and missing grout. The trim was missing in spots and the overall appearance of the trim was horrible. After I got of the shower, I discovered the water would not turn off. This was not a small drip, it was a stream of water bad enough that I had to shut the water off to the whole house. Since tile work was done, the electrician wasn?t supposed to show up until Wednesday. Monday morning I called Mike from Official Handyman and had him and his subcontractor Armando, meet me after work to look at their completed project. They did agree that it had to be the worst tile job they had ever seen and after an about an hour of my bantering and indicating how worthless I thought they were, they agreed to take it down and start over. I assured them that it had to be perfect since after the no-show, the ?gifts? and this horrible job, I would be looking with a fine tooth comb. The electrician started as scheduled on Wednesday and left a complete mess of my house. They cut holes in the drywall, which was expected but left all the dust in piles throughout the house, including on my stove. They installed switches in the middle of walls and I have still yet to see the GFI outlets that were to be installed. All the trash was left in boxes in various spots, on the stairs, in the middle of hall and the whole backyard. On Thursday, when I got home from work, I looked at the completed tile job in the shower. Although better, because it could not get worse, it was still not good. The tiles were uneven horizontally and vertically and the levels were off, not as bad but still off, there were also still spots that were missing grout. The electrician?s mess was still not cleaned up so by this time I have reached the breaking point. I called Mike from Official Handyman and told him that no one would be allowed in my house anymore. I have paid 2/3 or $3,000.00 of a $4,500 project and have not gotten anywhere. This is also day 15 of a 7 day project and if I were to let them back in they still have to uninstall and re-install the floor. They have asked me to let them fix the problems but it is clear this job is too big for them to handle. The floor is still not fixed and the shower needs to be redone again. Of the 4 electrical switches put in, 3 need to be moved. Most of these problems could have been fixed if there was a little bit of supervision and an ounce of pride. I am now soliciting estimates to undo all the shoddy work which was done.
