Phil was very prompt to return my call, and he arrived early for our appointment! He clearly is very knowledgeable about his craft, and offered me good suggestions for my project. He explained his pricing, and I think it was fair. The work was accomplished in a very timely way, and the finished project is beautiful. I would definitely use him again, and recommend his work.

The patio turned out great. Phil did a very good job. Started off a little behind schedule, however, Phil was accommodating with a couple of changes I wanted and he finished on time. We will definitely use him when we are ready to have more work done.

Phil is an outstanding flagstone provider. When he finishes, it is such a nice addition to any yard. He used HUGE flagstone pieces for us as we wanted. It is amazing how he can fit the pieces together. We have used Phil before and would certainly use him again in the future.

approximately 4 years ago Phil built our flagstone mailbox enclosure. At the same time he built one for my next door neighbor. On the above date a neighbor lost control of her car and destroyed both my neighbor's (who recently bought the residence) and my mailboxes (along with other subsequent damage). Large sections of the stonework from the collision blocked access to my garage and were too heavy for me to move. I called Phil and he came out within four hours and hauled unusable stone away and cleared the entrance to the garage. He gave my neighbor and I each a price for reconstructing the enclosures. Fortunately, he was able to come the next three days and rebuild both boxes. His work is VERY good. My neighbor, within several days, contracted with him to put stone on his patio and walkway.

I had some work done on my 1952 home which required moving and adding windows, cutting through the original brick. I needed a mason to frame the windows and repair a wall. I left a message for Phil on a Saturday morning and he called back within the hour. I was not expecting a return call on the weekend! He came out that same day and discussed the job, making suggestions which would help us to minimize cost. I was pleased to learn he could begin the job later in the week. Well, he was able to start even sooner, it was done quickly and all the mess was cleaned when done. I'm quite pleased and happy that the repair/remodel looks as if the house has always been that way. I won't hesitate to call Phil again should I need any kind of masonry work.

My experience was great. First, I had contacted two other companies from Angie's List...one never called back, and the other added so much to my project that it made it cost prohibitive. In addition, it took that company two weeks to get me the estimate. We happened to stop by Alamo bricks and pavers. I found the stone I wanted and asked the company if they could recommend anyone. Phil called me the next day, gave me an estimate, and finished the project in one day. The only delay was caused by the weather... I immediately liked Phil. He's a small two person company, so he asked for my patience up front. He thoroughly explained the process, and even saved me money by taking care of sprinkler heads that had to be moved. The walkway, because I wanted the curves to match the shape of the pool, required masterfully cuts and layout. I'm not sure why the other person did not ultimately like the project he did...or his work. He worked hard and provided me exactly what I wanted. I also think I got a great deal considering the price. I plan on using him again for another project and will recommend him to others in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: He installed a tumbled stone walkway--approximately 100square feet, connecting patio and pool.

In the beginning of the 2 1/2 week work period, Mr. Flanagan did a nice job. He had an assistant on the job though, that did not do as well and Mr. Flanigan was not on the job as often as the assistant. Progress was slow and work was accomplished without Mr. Flanigan advising me ahead of time that the measurements I provided would not easily work and should be adjusted. Later, when I realized this, he explained the set measurements of the concrete blocks, etc, so I was okay with it, but I would have prefered to have known ahead of time. Upon inspection one day, I noted that the brick laid that day in front of the grill area was not laid correctly. It curved and the bricks were not on one level vertically or horizontally. I called to explain and told him if he came to look at it, he should immediately see what I was talking about. The next day, he seemed not to understand. I think it was because he didn't want to have to remove the brick and re-do it, but that is just my opinion. I told him I was not satisfied and wanted it done correctly. By the end of that day, it was re-done to my satisfaction. Work seemed to progress very slowly and I advised him I would be leaving town on 10 June and he said he would be done by then so it didn't matter. On the morning of 9 June, he stated all the work would be completed and asked for $1500 (which I explained previously was more than I should have owed). Even though I knew that amount was not correct, I figured the extra for for taking away old brick and "trash dirt", and that even though I didn't think they would be done that day, I went ahead to paid him what he asked for. As I figured, the work was not completed that Thursday, nor that Friday, nor that Saturday. I called him upset on Friday and on Saturday and asked when it would be finished. I was not there, but I assume he completed laying the brick on Sunday, 12 June. The "trash dirt" was left and so was all the old brick in the flowerbeds. The last layers of brick in various places had several areas of missing or not enough mortar. Also, an area where he had some concrete poured for a staue in the flowerbed, was not done correctly, but since there was no cost provided for that, that is perhaps not a legitimate complaint, except to say, if someone says they will do something, I expect it be done professionally or not bother at all. It was left open and not filled with concrete and when it rained, it went under the statue and just sat to attract mosquitoes and become nasty. I have reviewed all the brick work and there are areas where the mortar is thick in some areas between the bricks and others where it is more narrow. There are areas where half bricks were used on a curved wall and in other rows whole ones used - so if you look at it for longer than a few seconds, you realize it is haphazard. A brick right above a light switch is notably crooked. I called him several times about the missing mortar between some of the bricks and he said he was busy and could not get to it until Saturday 25 Jun. On that day I called and he said he was tied up and would be there Monday. Monday came and went and so has today, Tuesday 28 June. I'm done. I am frustrated with myself for paying him before the work was completed and for overpaying him. I am upset with him for not returning promptly to correct the deficiencies I noted to him. I didn't mention to him the other issues I noted with the bricks. He and others like him are the reason people should get everything in writing and not provide final payment until the work is completed and in a manner that is acceptable. I will never call upon him to do any more work for me and at this point, even if he wanted to come and complete it, I am done dealing with him and will pay the money to have someone else come fix the areas lacking in the masonry work.
Description of Work: Brick work for small outdoor kitchen and circular flowerbed. I provided a Powerpoint Slide of the work I wanted with measurements for all lenghts, widths, and heights for the outdoor kitchen area which consisted of a raised area to sit a small refrigerator, an area to place a ceramic grill, two counter tops (with backsplash area), and a pillar of brick to put a 38" round slab at bar height. Originally I only planned for the kitchen and on 25 May when we met and I showed him the plans, he said he would complete the work for $3474 including materials and labor. There was no written estimate provided and no schedule of payments. He required a $1500 deposit. On 1 Jun, he said he needed more money for supplies and asked for $1000. Then on 4 Jun, he said he had some time before his next job of a driveway, and offered to build a brick border for a sloped flowerbed area for an extra $1400 (he said materials would be around 600 and 800 for labor). He asked for money for materials and that day I paid him $1000. On the morning on 9 May, he claimed he would be finished that day and probably gone before I got home and requested I pay him the remainder of what I owed. He also said he would take apart old brick flowerbed borders and the "trash dirt full of rock". He said I owed him $1500. If you are working this math out, you will notice, I should have only owed him $1374. I didn't question his math and figured he was adding on the extra for taking apart and hauling away old brick flowerbed materials and the "trash dirt".
