Dave was professional and diligent all the way through the process. From the moment I met him I new he was going to get the job done. He arrived on time for the estimate, asked pertinent questions, took notes, made sure he fully understood what I wanted, and gave me a thorough estimate in a timely manner. Once we got the job started, his guys arrived on time, worked hard through the whole day, and did excellent workmanship. He even sent me emails each morning to let me know what time the guys were going to arrive and what kind of work they were going to be doing that day. I had a few changes to make during the course of the job and he handled it perfectly. The job got done in a timely manner and it was exactly what I wanted. He wasn’t the cheapest estimate that I found, nor was he the most expensive. But I’m glad I picked him for the job. It was a good experience. I will use him again as we expand our clinics to create nice work spaces for us. I can highly recommend D Michael Designs to anybody who needs interior construction!

Professional experience throughout. The demo and entire project was handled professionally from start to finish by Dave Peters. All of the contractors/team were professional, engaging and extremely polite. The house looks great…backsplashes in the kitchen and bathroom looks great as does all the tile work on shower walls and around our fireplace. New LVP flooring looks fantastic. Highly recommend D Michael Design and Dave Peters!

Very good! The 2 men who installed the new door worked hard but quickly. The drywall we was a real professional. Couldn’t believe what he did in just a couple hours. The next day, the two installers came back and installed the trip. Later that day the painter came and finished the project. He was very neat and his work was better than I hoped for. What a good crew of workers! Very pleased.

Dave was great to work with. He was very forthcoming and very knowledgeable. He provided daily updates and would respond to my email or text messages promptly, most within an hour. The quality of work was excellent. His concrete subcontractor though made a number of mistakes which was quite frustrating but he got them to fix the issues. It did take the subcontractor several tries before they fixed it so that was disappointing. However, the end product look wonderful. I would definitely highly recommend Dave. In fact, I plan to contract with him again on a future project.

I can’t recommend D Michael Designs enough!! Dave was incredibly helpful from beginning to end. He was very transparent with pricing and timeline which I appreciated. His sub contractors did great work. He gave me regular status updates and I never had a late arrival with anyone on his team. The finished product of my kitchen remodel is beautiful and I am so thankful I was referred to this company. I will be using him in the future for any further projects and already recommended to friends and family.

Awesome! Dave was great to work with. We had heard great things about him and D. Michael Designs, and we were very pleasantly surprised with his quote for all of the work. Once we signed our contract, things actually got better. Dave kept us updated every day as to what the schedule was and who would be coming to the house. All of his subs were on time and very pleasant to work with. We had a few issues with material not arriving on time, but that was not Dave's responsibility. Once it did, it was back to work. Overall, we couldn't be happier with how the project turned out.

These guys are amazing! I have been through several remodels of previous properties and D. Michael Designs is by far the best. They not only started and finished on time, but they also showed up on time every day and worked a full day. They were awesome at problem solving when unexpected things popped up and let me know at the end of each day what they would be doing on the following day. Super friendly and professional. I will definitely be using them for future projects.

Best experience, and I've had many! Dave Peters was perfect to work with: professional, skilled, communicative, exceptionally responsive, trustworthy, and helpful. This was a total gut on an out-of-state rental; down to concrete slab and drywall; also replaced siding, driveway, sidewalk, patio. Finished product looks fantastic, inside and out. The journey was surprisingly free of frustration, thanks to Dave's management. He clearly defined scope, pricing, process upfront; communicated very well throughout the process, including pics and update texts/emails. Highly recommend my new go-to contractor! The work was professional and I was apprised of the work that was to be completed on a daily basis.

They whole process was great. This is the 3rd time we've hired D Michael Designs and again we are extremely happy with the result. Dave is very hands on and is not satisfied until the job is complete and is exactly what we want.

We hired Dave to install a 1600 lb beam into our 2 story home so that we could remove a wall that separated 2 living rooms. We also hired Dave to relocate our front door to the front of our home and add in 2 windows. Dave and crew did both beautifully. The 1 big room looks amazing and the finish work of sheet rocking, tapping, floatings and texturing look awesome!!! My super picky mom even said it looks good (major score there). The front door and windows are so cute and are ready for me to start decorating. I am not going to say this project was without hiccups because this is construction and that is impossible. But Dave and team handled each one with ease and got everything done fabulously. Their communication is fast and they were punctual every morning which I appreciated more than I can express. I highly recommend D Michael Designs!

With the guidance and vision of D. Michael Designs, our 36 year old master bedroom has been transformed from a tired same ole, same ole look to a vibrant, fresh – is this really our bedroom – awakening. The renovation encompassed a complete new look from ceiling to floor. The ceiling was freed from its stale, dusty and out-of-fashion “popcorn” treatment. It and all its supporting walls were freshly painted and textured. A new ceiling fan was installed and a new television was wall-mounted. The wall-to-wall carpet gave way to the warm look of real wood flooring throughout the main bedroom, vanity enclave and walk-in closet. The vanity enclave received a new granite countertop, two rectangular vessel sinks, two separate wall mirrors, two medicine cabinets (one for him and one for her). The supporting vanity base was painted a complimentary grey tone that appeared throughout the master bedroom. The crown jewel of the renovation was the offset shower and commode (enclave). The shower walls, shower flooring and the drainage system were given an enchanting mixed application of tile placement – from the floor up three walls to the ceiling. We installed a modern 36” lateral drain along the longest wall in the shower, and the gradual, effective sloping to drain was exceptionally done. When finished, the tile placement gives the impression of one sharing their shower with a real waterfall. A very nice touch. A large two section niche´ is included in the elongated vertically placed tile. New stainless steel shower head, faucet handle, ADA safety hand bars and double curtain rod (with curtain and a spot to hang our towels) truly enhanced the look. The tile flooring in the remainder of the space and adjacent commode, along with the towel cabinet and built-in laundry hamper continued the effect. This entire room was tastefully done in shades of grey… Enough of the narrative. We’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. A huge thank you to D. Michael Designs and his entire team. The whole process of a major renovation while still residing in the space brings its own level of stress and pressure. From the very first meeting and discussion of what we wanted to do, Dave was by our side. His architectural, design and contract capabilities are above what I could have expected. His punctuality, daily coordination and communication were impeccable. This was a huge undertaking, and without Dave’s patience, ideas and knowledge, I can’t imagine how it would have gone over the past months. I will be forever grateful to Dave and the friendship we developed. I would recommend beyond five stars D. Michael Designs. Robert and Barbara Paul

While proceeding with some planned renovations, my husband mentioned to the contractor that he had found a small leak by the side of the house. Upon looking closely it was determined a main plumbing line was and had been leaking -- and more than just a little bit. Our designer/contractor, David Michael Designs, did not hesitate to further investigate and have his contractor repair the pipeline. It became obvious this leakage had been having a negative impact on our water usage; and thereby was the reason our water bill had been more than anticipated recently. The skill and professional grace that was provided by D. Michael Design's team (although not having scheduled for or anticipated such an event) saved us both time and money by handling the issue immediately.

Dave did an excellent job for us - he is approachable, professional and extremely trustworthy. Cleans up the work area every evening which is a bonus I know we will use him again!

All went well - again (David had previously updated our kitchen/dining room). Wall board installation/texturing and paint were all top quality. Work was done quickly and conscienciously over the span of a week...no interruptions or days away to other jobs. Floor was protected and all entrances to the room were draped with plastic...dust in the house was virtually non-existant. Electricians arrived as scheduled and did great job with ceiling lights/dimmer switches. Work area kept clean at the end of each day. I am now ready to paint reachable walls and add trim myself. We are fully satisfied with the job provided by D. Michael Designs.

Quality of work and customer service with Dave and his crew were outstanding. The 6x6 Cedar posts supporting the roof/patio cover were rotten. 16 ft, 12ft, and 8 ft posts were replaced in two days. We will definitely be calling on Dave for future repairs.

Within 1 year of constructions, I had a roof leak where the old constructions met the new construction. Called Lone Start State Construction/D. Michael Designs. They came out and looked at it and said it was caused by hail damage. My insurance company paid to have it repaired. On the very next rain, it leaked again. The company that repaired it checked it again. I was told that a piece of trim was placed on the vinyl directly above the new roof. The trim allowed the rainwater to pool there when it was windy. About 1 year later, I noticed a small crack along the entire seam. I thought it wad due to the drought, so I’ve been watering. The crack is now > 1/4” wide. I called a foundation repair company and was told it should still be under warranty. I’ve been trying to call to verify but none of the numbers for D. Michael Design or Lone Star State Constructions I found on the internet or on Angie’s list are functioning. I don’t know if they have gone out of business. I thought that by hiring a professional company that did large projects, and at a higher price, that the work done would be more professional. But I learned that instead, they contracted the work out. From the beginning of construction, I have had problems. They were late, workmanship was poor. The new concrete wasn’t level with the old concrete. I had to fire the contractor and hire my own because wanted to raise the level of the old floor instead if grinding down the level of the new one. The door wasn’t attached properly and it turned out to be a poor grade compared to the one I selected. The drywall did match up right and so I made the corrections myself because I got tired of calling them back to correct things.

I initially graded this company a C until I read his reply. I can't say it enough but I don not appreciate dishonesty. I never once picked out materials to be used for the home nor was anyone else working with this company. It is sad that a man needs to lie about his faults to paint him the good guy. Prior to starting anything I told him my plans and he was clear on my intentions. I'm a very much understanding person but when one quote says one thing and then an influx in price magically appears it's bound for questions. I decided to buy the materials on my own because it was cheaper. There's nothing wrong with saving money when the cost of the contractors products are inflated. I never once saw or discussed the type of products, the sink he talks about. With his reply I would have to say RUN! I dishonest man will cut corners and blame others for their faults. I fired this contractor, he was not willing to follow city regulations and the potential cost/lost from his negligence was something I was not willing to take on. I wish I could've had the individual that was rated 'A's' on this post. I have no reason to lie about the encounter nor do I want to destroy anyone reputation. I will not let you lie and paint me to be the bad guy. I wish you and your company the best. I found someone else that was not willing to cut corners :) You started project 3/13 you were FIRED 5/8 just to refresh your memory.

We spent approximate $185,000 to remodel the entire 1,450 square foot second floor of our home. All in all, D Michael Design did an exceptional job. Winston Churchill reputedly declared: “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.” Accordingly, I now declare D Michael Design the worst general contractor, except for all the others. Reality dictates that no large scale project can ever be flawlessly executed. Accordingly, the real measure of success is how the inevitable problems are addressed. In THAT regard, Dave Peters was indeed flawless. Dave was always committed to getting it right, never sidetracked with excuses. Time and again, Dave tackled the inevitable problems and made things right. Starting in mid-September 2017, we met at least once per week to develop our design, select materials, and document a very detailed work order that listed tasks and costs. The project commenced in early November 2017 and culminated in early April 2018. For over five months, Dave was at our home virtually every weekday morning to let us know exactly what would be happening that day and to inspect the quality of the previous day’s work. Always good-humored, he was never defensive when we’d point out inevitable shortcomings; he simply made sure the sub-contractors did it again—and sometimes, yet again—until they got it RIGHT. And sometimes HE identified shortcomings we had missed, and made sure they got corrected. The project was tackled in two phases that enabled us to continue to live in our home throughout construction. The first phase tackled the master bedroom, bath, and closet. Walls were moved, ceilings raised, and more. A lot of design had to be done “on the fly” as hidden infrastructure had to be accommodated. In some instances pipes and HVAC infrastructure were relocated to accommodate our preferred design. In other instances we worked together to devise innovative work arounds. In the end, it all came together with spectacular results. Dave’s pleasant demeanor and constructive attitude made it an enjoyable, teamwork process that might otherwise have been a disastrously contentious and stressful debacle. The second phase involved a bedroom, hallway bathroom, craft room, and office. This phase was not as complex design-wise, but received no less conscientious effort from Dave. In the past, I have dealt with owner-contractors who at the outset gave me their “personal number” so I could reach them anytime. However, once the project commenced, they didn’t answer calls or respond in a timely manner. Not so with Dave. He always responded immediately, cheerfully, and helpfully. I have no doubt that I could have easily found another contractor at a significantly lesser cost. But I also have no doubt that I could never have found as good a VALUE in terms of commitment to excellence, responsiveness, and a stress-free experience.

I reviewed this company in August 2016 (approximately one month into my remodel). At that time, I gave them five stars because everything was going good. HOWEVER, I need to post the following update: DO NOT use D. Michael Designs unless you want to throw money away! They were impressive for the first couple of months of my project. However, after that, everything was downhill. That’s why my current review of this business is completely opposite of the one I did in August 2016. In May 2017, they still had not completed the project that was supposed to be finished as by December 1, 2016 according to my executed contract. Also, much of the work that had been done was of poor quality. The subcontractors did not perform the work satisfactorily. So, they had to redo things over and over again. However, the end result was still not acceptable. As they continued to get further and further behind schedule, they continued to “promise me” that it would be finished in the next couple of weeks. In May 2017, they told me they would not complete the job, even though the executed contract stated that I had to be 100% satisfied with their work. At this point, I had paid all but $6,000 of my total contract price (which was over $150,000). After they walked off the job, I brought in another contractor to finish the work that they had not. As the new contractor did the tasks that D. Michael Designs did not complete, numerous other problems were identified with the work that they had done. The work they had done was of such poor quality that much of it must be redone. Some items were actually safety hazards. For example, D. Michael Designs installed a new gas line for a new range in a new island (no previous gas line existed – everything was new). Over a period of multiple months, I continuously complained that I smelled gas. They would have someone come out and “fix it”. However, I still smelled gas when the new contractor took over. So I asked them to check it out. They inspected the gas line and noted that the gas line (which was a brand new line) had been wrapped with duct tape and plumbers tape. After their work, I have not smelled gas again. Also, I had a new ceiling fan installed outside. The electrical work had to be redone because it was not done correctly. D. Michael Designs also had installed the wrong type of ceiling fan and it had rusted out in a matter of a few months. After I purchased the replacement ceiling fan (having the correct rating for using in an external area), the new contractor was installing the electrical connections for the new fan. As they were doing this, they incurred electrical arcing in the outlet. After these safety issues were identified, I requested the new contractor to inspect the rest of the electrical work done by D. Michael Designs. We found illegal wiring, hazardous material in the outlets, burned sections in the outlets and a very poorly wired electrical panel (which was newly installed during my remodel). In addition to these items, there are many, many other items that the new contractor has done or will redo, thus costing me double the amount to get everything working properly. I have had the new contractor working on my house for approximately three months now just redoing work that was not satisfactorily completed by D. Michael Designs.
