Back story: We haven't had a tune-up in our home since we built in a few years ago. As such, there was this very annoying screech when you opened the garage. As it turned out, it just needed some lube and a few tweaks here and there and it went away! The gentleman suggested I get some upgraded roller wheels, but he wasn't pushy about it, I simply told him I didn't have the couple of hundred to make it completely without any sound. Don't get me wrong, I like that the screech went away, but I like hearing the slight noise it makes when someone opens the garage door for security reasons. Overall it was a great experience and when I am ready to upgrade my rollers, guess who I'll be going back to! :) - Side Note - The only negative, if you could call it that, is that they placed a sticker on my garage wall, right above the garage door opener with their phone number and business name. Not that big of a deal, but just a heads up for those that really hate 'advertising' in your home.
Description of Work: There was a "group deal" on Angie's List last year for a tune up and was too good to pass up so we tried out Garage Experts for the first time.

First, the advertised Angie's List discount was not in effect for purchase and installation of a garage door opener. Installation was done very quickly and installer left. Once he'd gone I realized I'd not received the remote control. Called the company and installer insisted I'd been given the remote control - I hadn't, but duly searched the garage, empty opener box and trash. A remote control was delivered. In the next two weeks I had the experience of leaving the garage, hitting the remote and door began closing - I drove off - only to come back and find the garage door open and my house vulnerable. I called the office and Louanna (their receptionist - and is the best employee I've dealt with in this company; great attitude) said that it was probably dust specks on the beam lens or sunlight. Dusted the beam lenses and that worked the first time. After that I had to exit the car, find a position in front of the garage door where I cast a shadow on the lens before the door would close. This defeated the purpose of staying safely in the car and out of the weather to have the door closed, so by the 16th November I was ready to rip the safety beams out. I called the office and Louanna said the safety beams could not be removed due to State law but she'd send a technician as customer safety was their first concern. Felipo arrived and said it would cost $89 to move the safety beams to a different location. I said that since the door opener wasn't functioning properly it was up to the company to make it work. The discussion went on and he eventually said it would cost $25. The procedure took under 3 minutes to perform and the safety beams were moved to the ceiling of the garage, facing one another with perhaps 2-3" clearance between them. (The door closes every time now but how the safety feature will work is a mystery to me as the beam cannot be broken; just happy it is working). I then endured what I felt was a scare tactic to have other services performed services - the door springs needed adjustment; wrong kind of springs originally installed in the door, two spring adjustments should cost $139 but could be done for the cost of one spring adjustment $109; present system would damage the motor gears in the new opener, etc. I asked if that were true why did the original installer not bring that to my attention. The answer - I'm not responsible for what other installers do. I declined. Though the office staff does a great job, the changing prices and Fast Eddy approach of installers made me uneasy about dealing with this company.
Description of Work: Installation of garage door opener, plus one remote control.

At 7pm (9/9/12), I contacted Garage Repair Experts to request service to replace a torn panel on my garage door. They have advertised as a 24hr service, but I suspect that they are not 24/7 as advertised. I got the run-around about the service that could be provided and the time in which this service could be done. The operator said one technician would be out between 9am-11am on Monday morning with the panel, but there was no follow-up from the technician. I called back Monday morning, and I was notified that a 2nd technican was actually coming to my house without a panel to check the garage door in order to purchase the panel replacement. My frustration is from the no follow-up, and that I was told that the technican knew what panel was needed from a picture I had taken and that he'd be out before 11am to replace it. I received a call at 10:22am from Garage Repair Experts stating that the 2nd technican would be out to check the door to fit the replacement. At that point, I told them to cancel the appointment. I feel that they are over-extended, and I did not appreciate the late notifications on the technician changes. The operator was nice and cordial, but the failed promises and the failed follow-up kept me from using this business.

Story is above As my desired reolution I request the following, and will follow up with the Better Business Bureau too. l. I was charged $49 for an emergency service call, they failed to show up within one hour or anywhere close to it, so I expect this back. 2. I was charged $299.78 plus sales tax for two spring replacements, instead of the $97 each as advertised (Bait and Switch?)I did tell the tech Scott at the time that I wanted the cheapest ones available as we are in the process of selling this house) So, I would also request a refund of $l05.78 plus sales taxe if that applies too. I can mail in proof of the spring replacement of From $97.00 and 24 Hour Emergency Service within One Hour and the bill, if anyone needs it. 3. They apparently snuck in a $l0.00 gratuity charege without telling me. Why would I want to give a gratuity for less than satisfactory service or misleading if not downright highly questionable marketing techniques such as possible bait and switch and possible fraud or failure to deliver as promised. 4. The total requested is $l64.78 plus tax if that applies too.
Description of Work: I was charged $49. for an emergency service call and they failed to show up for 2 l/2 hours. I was charged $l49 each instead of the advertised $97 and up price for two garage door springs./ False and deceptive advertising? Failure to deliver as promised in a timely manner. My spring broke in the garage, I see in all of their ads which I receive at least monthly, they advertise. Spring Replacements from $97 and promise 24 hour emergency service within an hour. When I called at l2:l5PM, they said we can have someone there between 3 and 6 PM. I asked how much for an emergency service call within an hour and they quoted $49.00. At l:40 PM, about 90 minutes later, the technician said he was in Frisco, about 5-10 miles away and would be at my house shortly. Both the above can be confirmed by my cell phone records and cell phone. They arrived 2 l/2 hours later, my wife can confirm this time, as I had asked them to go to the garage, and they instead banged on the front door which awoke my wife who was sick and asleep at the time. (They promise within an hour for emergency service) I have contacted the firm by mail and they have not responed by phone or mail yet, and have made no attempt to resolve this issue. Then they billed me for an emergency service, promised within one hour. All of their ads promise Spring Replacements, $97 and up. The salesman/installer said "No your door springs are $l49 and up" When Scott, the technician and his trainee were in the garage, with me presnet (and I have a military hearing impairment problem), Scott tried to upsell me on a product/service I didn't need, and also while installing the new spring, showed the trainee he brought along what might happen if he's not careful and released the high pressure ratcheted, cuasining it to slam into the garage door, and causing me rining in the ears (Tinnitus?). I didn't appreciate this and he could have wanred me to cover mye ars or warn me of the big noise first. Also, I found out that they snuck in an additional $l0.00 gratuity charge for the workman that I had no idea would be coming. That, along with the fact that the workman used his portable l0 key machine multiple times to ccome up with the total made me look at the receipt with a fine tooth cocmb. Be careful with this firm. Why would I want to give a gratuity for less than satisfactory service or misleading ads?

We had been having trouble with both garage doors - nothing broken, but old grease had fallen on my husband's car and the door seemed to be laboring. We also had a problem once with the double garage door - it just was not opening smoothly, so we scheduled a tune-up. The technician quickly diagnosed the problems and made the adjustment and repairs. The double garage door had a broken bolt, which he was able to replace. He suggested some further improvements and an eventual replacement, as any good salesman will do, but he was honest with us and simply fixed the obvious problems.
Description of Work: Adjusted single garage door and replaced broken bolt on double garage door.

Scheduled a maintenance call for one of our rental properties to be followed by garage maintenance on our home. The repairman did call ahead, but arrived 40 minutes later than his estimate and an hour after the end of the scheduled repair window. He spent 5 minutes diagnosing the problem and said that he'd have to reschedule the repair for a different day due to the amount of work that would be required. After remembering that we had an issue with another rental property less than 1 mile away, I asked if he could meet me there to look at it instead. He agreed, but seemed annoyed as I was trying to give him directions. When we got to the property, the sales manager (who I guess was the technician's boss) called me to express his own frustration that I redirected his repairman, stating that they had schedules and basically scolded me for derailing his timeline as they were "very busy". Given that the technician spent less than 5 minutes at the first property, I didn't anticipate that this was an unreasonable request on my part. When he inspected the 2nd garage door, he looked at it for about half a minute before telling me that the garage door opener was too old and he couldn't service it because it was out of code and it could only be replaced. (The garage door is still functional, but it lacks a motion sensor and a pull rope to remove it from the track.) When I told him that I needed to talk to my business partner before approving the work, he told me to get him on the phone and he'd talk to HIM about it. I declined. As a woman, I felt bullied. As a business person and customer, I was completely offended by the sales manager's call and the technician's attitude. I immediately called the sales manager and told him to cancel the maintenance appointment I had scheduled for that afternoon on my own home. I didn't feel right giving these guys any business given their complete lack of customer service. The whole situation was completely disappointing because they have an A+ rating on BBB.org and are a Better Business Bureau accredited business.
